AVI FILES - HD Mini General

I have been unable to get AVI files to play in either Windows Media ("Cannot play file") or Core Player (sound but no picture).
Anybody have any ideas? This is my "last" issue to resolve and once done, I can sit back and enjoy this little beast.
Thanks in advance.

You have to in Core playa set video ascent of /Direct Draw/, and is that a ok!!!

Karlos,
Thank you very much. Your directions work perfectly.

No .avi files playable?

Hi,
I have some .avi files on my Leo, but can't play them with standard Windows Media Player Portable. HTC player doesn't even show the files in the album view, so I can't add them to playlist.
Isn't Leo supposed to play .avi files? (Leo with WM6.5 and 1.48 ROM. Files on 16 GB FAT32 storage card.)
Properties of one avi file (for example):
350 MB
640 x 480 pixel
data rate: 996 kBit/s
total bit rate: 1122 kBit/s
25 fps
2 channel stereo sound
48 kHz, 126 kBit/s
Can someone help?
Thanks!

PS: If I convert the files to .mp4 with a program on my PC, Leo does play them. But I don't want to convert every single file (about 20 min. each)... Please help!
You need a different player to play avi files.
Try the suggestion in this post, particularly paying attention to the settings.

Hope this helps
Wow, thanks for that fast reply!
I tried TCPMP before. And got some sort for error, player wouldn't even start. However, I tried the version you suggest again. The avi video isn't played properly (mostly just a green screen, artifacts...), the GUI doesn't show up correctly and after closing the player my Leo crashes (softreset).
Any other suggestions?
(BTW: Isn't there a solution without having to install a new player? Like an update or registry edit for the Windows Media Player? Afterall Leo should support avi files natively...
Thanks!!

You're welcome
Did you check the settings, as per that post that I linked you to? They work perfect for me, and the problems you described suggest that you didn't. Change the settings and then close the player. When you open it again it should play fine. (You need a succesful close to save the settings changes, which is why I suggest this.)

I'm afraid not - there's no native support for avi files (well, there may be for some encoding formats, or for raw avi files, but most avi files are encoded in a manner that requires you to have codecs installed on a PC to play, and obviously that's not windows mobile. Installing TCPMP means that you have a player with relevant codecs.)
Hope this helps
AVI is just the container, depends on what that AVI was encoded with as to WMP playing it or not...
TCPMP / Core player are very good players if set up properly.
Thanks to you guys!!
TCPMP is now working. Great! However, there is still one bug. Buttons next to "file" and "options" are not visible (eg. play, pause, next ..). They become visible for a slip second when I click them, but... Anyone knows a way around?
Thanks,

Good FLV player?

Hi
I have searched and RTFW.....but maybe I missed it somewhere.
Looking for a good player that will play FLV's on our device. Have tried youtubeplayer but I find that the timeline bar doesn't work so you can't fast forward through a vid.
Also it doesn't play all the FLV's I have.
Has anyone got any better solutions? I have tried TCPMP player with source forge FLV codec but it keeps crashing out :-(
Thanks and appreciate any help!
was gonna say tcpmp but you nixed that
Can you not convert flv into a nicer format?
I've found FLVs sometimes dont even work on desktop flvplayer for seeking or resizing - and that's down to the FLV file. only way to fix them is to play them through, or rebuild the stream....or convert to another better format.
I just think there are many crappy .flv files out there with lazy web-players.
If you are using a tool like dwhelper then get it to auto-convert on download to a sane format.
No issue for me with this TCPMP version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951

After Copying Video to SD Card, Only Playing Audio / No Video

I have DVD Fab 7 and have been using that to covert files for awhile now for friends phones and PS3's and things like that.
I took a Blu-Ray today and used the option to covert to MP4 file. I successfully did it and did confirm it works and plays on the computer. However when i transfer it over, both the Windows Media Player and streaming media player will recognize it as a MP4 file, but only play the audio and no video.
Is it because a Blu-Ray movie is too high of a resolution? There wasn't an option to convert the resolution so i don't know.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
did you try core or tcpmp?
I had TCPMP on there but never used it. It would never stream any movies smoothly, so I took it off. Maybe I'll give it another shot and see if that does anything. It was just way too glitchy on both Transformer movies so I took it off.
keep tcpmp and try some different playback settings
I remember back in 06 it ran a mkv file of the big o at 244 mb on a samsung i730
trust me when I say this - its powerful if its set up right
I just installed the TCPMP player and it won't even open the movie. As soon as I select it, the player closes and immediately goes back to the home screen. I'm still trying to find all the settings to adjust and see if maybe there is something there I need to change.
did you change the blu ray resolution? I know you said you converted it to mp4 but on my tp2 one huge issue was playing hi def movies. I got sound but I never got anything else...it just seems similar
actually it happened when I downloaded a higher quality benjamin button movie...
and ghost int he shell individual 7 3 hour movie
have you tried an 800x480 res?
Yeah I'm pretty sure the resolution is the problem. I found a converter that makes it 800x480 and currently going through the conversion process now. Hopefully that will help.
oh it will =)
help monumentously!
good luck!
Update: Even after setting the resolution correctly when ripping the BluRay to 800x480, I still cant' get any video from any of the players.
I'm trying a regular DVD now to see if I can get that right and go from there. Any other suggestions?

HD2 media player

Looking for a favour ASAP please guys (i.e, before I go to work :-D). I want to be able to transfer .avi files onto my phone and play them, and after searching around, installing stuff (such as Coreplayer & TCPMP), I've decided that they don't support .avi's, OR I've just downloaded the wrong .cab for my HD2.
Can anyone provide me with a link to a good-.avi-playing media player for my HD2 pretty please?
If it matters I'm just using the bog-standard 1.43 ROM at the moment.
Thanks for your help guys.
core supports avi...actually it supports mkv and ogm as well
there is a limit of size
if the file is above the normal 855x485 limitation that will cause problems and you will only hear sound and no video. But core supports those file types
heck I love watching my noir ogm. Try to go to options and ensure you have chain's graphic driver and 100% smooth...it'll make a difference
So why do I get 'Unknown file type' errors when trying to play .avi files? Both TCPMP and Core
Any answers quickly please?? Hate to be pushy, but I've got just under an hour.
Just two quick suggestions:
1) Do the files work on your PC?
2) Your phone is unplugged from your PC when you try to play?
3) Have you tried loading the .avis from within the app rather than just clicking on them in File Explorer?
Thanks for your help buddy.
Yes, to all 3 questions mate. Is there a codec pack or something for the HD2? As a very select few play OK, yet most don't, but they are all .avi, makes me wonder if it's a codec problem.
Did u try this version of tcpmp?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951&highlight=tcpmp
Yeah just tried that one, same problem mate. Weird, huh?
That's weird. I can play .avi files with that version of TCPMP.
Copied straight over, or do you convert them first?
I copied straight to my storage card. What's the resolution of the video? Try playing different .avi video, i.e different size, different resolution , and see if it works?

[Q] Playing video in avi format

Hi
When I am trying to transfer an avi video on my Nexus 7, I am receiving the following warning:
The File "filename here" may be copied to the device for storage or transport use only. It is not supported for use on the device itself. If possible, use a media program that can convert the file before copying it. If you copy the file now, it will be stored on the device, but may not be presented in the device user interface. Do you wish to copy the file anyway?
Now I have installed MX Player, however I am receiving the same warning. Any ideas what can I do to view avi files on nexus 7?
Thanks in advance.
Is this the computer telling you this? If so, just ignore it and copy anyway. The computer doesn't really know what your device can or cannot do, it is just making a dumb assumption. You should be able to play the video with no problems.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Yes the message was given by the computer. In fact, I followed your suggestion and copied it anyway, however I got a message that the video cannot be played. Also I tried downloading other apps (bs player and dice), however I still got the same message.
Any other suggestions what can I try please as converting them to mp4 seems to be taking a lot of time.
Thank you in advance.
Hi
Just as an update I have tried the following but all to no success:
- In MX Player I tried to play the avi file in S/W decoder but still got the message that the video cannot be played
- I tried to download the ARM7 codec for MX Player - again with no success
- Tried to install the DICE Player, but still the avi files cannot be played.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am really stuck.
Thank you in advance.
Hmm... perhaps try using MoboPlayer.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded the MoboPlayer as suggested but unfortunately to no avail. Not sure if it helps, but the following are the avi properties of the file I am trying to play (the file was recorded from a digital camera)
Image 640x480
Audio: bitrate - 64kbps, audio sample size 8 bit and audio format - CCITT u-Law
Video: framerate 30fps and data rate 6745 kbps.
Just as a side note, I tried several other avi files which I have on my computer, but I am receiving the same message for all of them.
Thanks for your help.
Regards
AVI isn't a video format as such but a container, the actual audio and video can be any number of different codes (divx, xvid, aac, mp3 etc etc)
I'd guess your video camera is producing a file that might be a more unusual codec. I used to have a tool o the my pc that would analyse the file and tell you what codecs it used, can't remember what it was called though.
Based on the info above and a little googling the audio seems to be in a format mainly for recording phone calls in call centres. So it's already looking like a weird format from that alone

thx jimbobvfr400 for your reply. Actually I managed to solve part of the problem. I used the Gspot v 2.1 utility to identify the codec being used. As for the avi in question, the codec is mjpg and this did not play with the apps I tried. Eventually, I tried copying another avi on the nexus, and initially I received the same warning before transferring the file. This time I used an xvid avi and although at first it didn't work, I tried to play it in Soft decoder and it worked fine.
So at least I can play the xvid types but so far not the mjpg files. If anyone managed to play these type of files your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
