I got tired of waiting and downloaded the official ota. Put it on the root of my sdcard and renamed it to update.zip. I have the .2 software version and stock recovery and I never updated my radio.
The first time I ran it it gave me an error which caused it to fail saying "assert failed: apply_patch_check (something about cityid.apk)"
I remembered I had renamed cityid so I reran unrevoked and changed it back.
the second time around I got passed the cityid problem, now it says "assert failed: apply_patch_check("system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko")
E:error in sdcard/update.zip"
Anyone else run into this?
Wifi-N
That file handles Wifi-N. Is it safe to assume that while you were hacking around disabling cityid and whatnot, that you also applied the Wifi-N mod?
I never specifically applied anything for wireless N. I did try out hydra kernels but reverted back to the stock one he lists on his site.
Thats the only thing that has to do with wireless N that Ive ever installed

Restoring back to the stock kernel on the hydra site should have restored your wireless module.
What's the md5sum of your /system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko file?
I'm having the same problem. If someone could post an unmodified version of the file, that would be awesome.

Yeah, that matches the one from stock kernel image at the hydrakernel page.
I ripped the one from the 2.1 RUU and it's md5sum is c1b430af3b2582568619fe94e8cfa65d. I'd guess that's the one you need.

Sucess!
I was finally able to get the update to run. I tried the file from the 2.1 update but it didnt like it either for some odd reason. (im guessing it was a bad file because my wifi wasnt working either with it). I remembered I made backup before I installed hydras kernels so i went into my nandroid backup used the file from there. And as im typing this it is installing the ota update.
you have to extract the file from the zip and use adb to replace the current bcm4329.ko in system/lib/modules

These are the steps i took to get back to the Stock bell rom. I take no credit for this method, NFHimself made the scripts, and mods for deodexing.
This takes an hour at least.. Make sure your battery is FULLY charged, Do a backup first as well to save your sd card contents.. You have to do a factory reset after the process is complete.
1)reinstall a fresh sbf of the french 2.1.1 and login to motoblur. French sbf can be found in this thread, Close to the bottom of the page.
2) enable usb debugging.. menu, settings, applications, development, then check usb debugging
3) go to NFHimselfs deodex/mod thread here
4)download Version 9, and extract it to your computer
5)Run the menu.bat file
6) choose the root option. and follow the instructions. If it doesn't complete successfully, unroot and try again. Took me a couple times to get my phone rooted properly.
7) once root is complete, choose restore phone. This will automatically download the files needed to get you back to the stock rom. It will take a little bit of time to download, so have a drink or smoke or something.
The restore will take an hour or so to complete. Be patient.
I got to the point where it said waiting for phone to shutdown, so i pulled the battery and did it manually. Once my phone booted back up again, it was on the stock bell rom.
Thanks to all who helped me! Y2whisper and kieller from the support.motorola forums.
Don't forget to thank NFHimself.
NOTE: I had to do a factory reset to get the Market app back.
I managed to get the bell update with no problems!
right on I was wondering how I would get back to the stock Bell.....I'm running the French 2.1.1, so when the time comes I can sit back for an hour or so and bring the phone back to stock...........yaaaahoooo......
nate_benji were you on the french 2.1.1 before you did this?? cause I'm on 2.1.1 and I am rooted, just wondering if I have to do all over... flashing 2.1.1 again and root??? but I guess it can't hurt with a fresh install......guess I'm getting lazy in my old age...lol

Yes, i was on the french 2.1.1. The only reason i did a fresh install of the french 2.1.1 sbf is because the rooting method is a little different than using gingerbreak. I tried with a normal root, but it didn't work. NFHimself's mod/deodex application has the root option built in. That's what I used, and it worked well.

The benefit is you get the bell updates, who knows when the other carriers will release the gingerbread updates. Mind you bell is slow at releasing anything..

Thanks nate, then when the time comes that's exactly what I shall do......
The biggest benefit of this would probably be that when you do this it would be really hard to tell if you ever modded the phone. Also Bell is likely to get the Gingerbread update before people in Europe.

I don't think so. i did it from a fresh flash of 2.1.1 and it worked fine. you just have to make sure you rooted using his scripts. that was a problem i was having using his app before i used these scripts.

I updated the original post, with a link to another thread that has a list of all known atrix sbf's. The french one is close to the bottom of the list.
Is this the one you are referring to...

Android Version: 2.2.2

Webtop version: N/A

Hi,
I removed partition 3 from the backup, it's your Motorola pds partition, it's not necessary to get back to stock, there are no sbf files that overwrite it. I also updated the atrix mods app to not reference partition 3.
Cheers!

Sorry thats a typo, it should be 2.1.1
Not sure what this update includes, but someone here should be able to figure this out, I imagine this will break root, so don't apply just yet =]

the "flashable root" version would be PRIME 1.8.2, thats the closest you'll get. There is no stock + superuser on any ROMs yet.

If your device isn't rooted, go to settings, about tablet, then click firmware update up top, and it will install this update, if your device is rooted this file is useless to you since you need to unroot to apply it until someone mods it for rooted devices. Good luck!

If you rooted you cannot apply this, you need to unroot (head over to the development threads or google "unroot asus transformer xda" then after you have unrooted simply go into settings, about device, then click firmware update and it will apply this update, then simply re-root =] there is currently no way to apply this otherwise to my knowledge

it is supposed to be in /cache and named the same with the .zip removed, however I don't believe you can place it in that location without root so just update as instructed in the above posts
I need some help. The update popped up for me yesterday, but I was rooted. So I proceeded to follow the steps to unroot my device, and got it all working again. Now I can't get any updates to appear for me. I even tried to manually check for updates, it says none, but I'm still on 8.6.5.6.
Any ideas?

If you use the update.zip (and not the update-wipeall.zip) file, then you should keep all of your apps and other stuff; the only things changed from before you updated your ROM would be whatever changes were explicitly described on the new version's changelog (the new version's improvements, that is). So flash away.

Another update pull failed verification and resulted in another footer error. If installed without any modification it works, but after rooting and pulling the update.zip, trying to install it results in an error. It could be a security measure introduced to the update.zip to prevent installing on a phone without the matching signature assigned during the initial download.
Whenever i tried to follow the link it asked me for a security key ????

I did not have my SD Card encrypted. I have also noticed some discrepancies between the update.zip I am extracting and the working VZW update.zip. Things like: the boot.img is 0kb, and there are missing CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, or MANIFEST.MF files under META-INF folder.
I have tried extracting it in several different ways\environments and get problems with every pull.
Other variants are working on the same thing with the same issues. I have the last pull I made, but I can't continue working on this as heavily since I'm using my daily driver. I'll try again as new info\solutions come up.
Seems like getting root (with current methods) may be disturbing the file structure. There may be something else at play here since all the pulls still come with a boot.img that is 0kb, and are missing CERT.RSA, CERT.SF, or MANIFEST.MF files under META-INF folder.
Here is the link to the WIP update.zip. I'm going to stop working on this until someone can suggest a better way to root or pull the file without it coming out corrupt\incomplete. Good luck!

Thanks @jrkruse for finding this method!
1. reboot to download mode (power + volume up +home) and make sure phone says Official under system and binary.
2. If it does not then you must odin the PH1 firmware, use the pit file and the full csc not the home csc file
3. go through setup
4. enable developer options
5. turn OEM unlock off
6. enable USB debugging
7. place Update.zip on Ext sd card in folder named fota
8. power off phone
9. reboot to download mode make sure both system and binary are official.
10. reboot to recovery (Power + volume down + home)
11. choose apply Update.zip from SD card
12. find Update.zip in the fota folder you created on your Ext sdcard
13. click yes to apply
After this it should update to the Android 7.0 beta and hopefully will be able to download future beta OTAs.
You will not lose anything as this is an OTA
You do not want to be rooted. You must be stock for this to work!
There is no gear VR available on the beta.

This is for the SM-G930P regular S7 (not edge). I have pulled it via filemanager app after full root, and via adb on linux and windows after eng kernel root and full root. All of them yielded an apropriately sized update.zip, but it seems to get corrupted during the rooting or extraction process.
Also, there may be a reason behind our update.zip not having a boot.img. We may not need a new boot.img after updating to PJ2, so it isnt packaged in our update. If someone can repackage the update.zip so it passes verification we may have more luck.
