Hey Community!
Yesterday I've bricked my HTC Magic the hard way when trying to flash SPL 2.22.23.02 - I can neither access recovery/fastboot mode nor establish a usb connection between my phone and my PC. I just can't do anything. It's probably dead.
I've read some interesting threads in the forum telling me that I have bricked my phone and there is no way to get my phone back to life again since it is "truly bricked".
Well, today I gave up researching and decided to go to my carrier and tell them a "fake story" in order to get a new phone. :/
I still "have" warranty on my phone so there shouldn't be any problem.. BUT: I have previously flashed Cyanogenmod so my warranty is void. But since it is bricked, no one can see that Cyanogenmod was previously installed on my phone, right? Or is there any way HTC or my carriers engineers can read the content of my bricked phone?
Well, I hope someone can help me and tell me wether it is a good idea or not. :/

My phone returned from warranty today due to a brick and I told them to fix the broken 3br stuff, wrote it by hand on the papers And they DID !!! It was the German O2 branded phone repaired by arvato.
Now I have a stock branded firmware AOJM1 with no apps, also a complete reset. No costs for me either, there was even an added phone sock
But I noticed another mode.
When pressing home+up at any time, even after boot, it gives me the screen below. What's that? recovery and download is already there. I just edited the flashlight from the cam, it really hurts my eyes
ok, i unbranded it using the kies method. the menu is not available anymore, must be something O2 specific. maybe they deactivated 3br and are updating through that.
i remember this mode was active before i bricked it. after flashing to xxjm1 it dissappeared.
maybe that's a way to fix bricked and branded phones without 3br.

Which way did you go after flashing to xxjm1?
What stage are you at now?
I've got to xxjm1, unlocked and rooted. But not sure what's safe to do next. The 3BR doesn't work on my phone, I've already bricked one trying to sort that out. That's why I've stopped at xxjm1, I'm worried about bricking another.
Hey folks.
I've had a HTC Hero on Orange since launch. Recently got me an iPhone 4 so stopped using the Hero.
I went back to use it a couple of weeks ago and the screen seems to have stopped working correctly (there is another few threads about it) - It seems i'm going to have to send the phone back to be repaired..
Before I send it back, I'm going to have to un-root the device. I've had a look through these forums, the unlockr.com, android forums etc looking for how to's - Everyone seems to think its as easy as plugging the phone in and double clicking the RUU for Orange. Not for me it seems.
My SD card with my nandroid backups messed up just before I got my iPhone, so I don't have any nandroid backups available. All the RUU's I've downloaded give me an error about being unable to connect with the phone after restarting. I think its because I have a different recovery image installed.
Is there a one-click unroot/revert application available? Or can someone point me in the right direction of how to do it? I have googled, and searched, but so far I'm stumped..
Thanks in advance!

Hi everybody,
11 months ago I bought a brand new HTC Desire Z (bought in Belgium, in a retail shop, no webshop).
During the time I rooted the phone, installed several custom ROM's, for example: now it is running Andromadus Audacity B3.
Now I have a (hardware) problem with my phone:
sometimes the phone goes off. The phone doesn't shutdown (no software fault), but i think it is the battery that doesn't make contact with the motherboard.
I can reproduce the problem very simple: moving the battery a little bit when the phone is running.
Cleaning the contacts doesn't make sense; the battery have a solid contact with the 'clips'. So I think there is something wrong on the motherboard of the phone.
I want to send the phone back to HTC because it is still in warranty.
Should they make noise about the fact that the phone is rooted and there is a custom ROM installed?
Should I restore the phone back to factory defaults before sending it back?
How can I do this (setting the phone back to the original firmware/ROM and unrooted).
Or shouldn't it make sense?
Can someone help me?
Thx!
Most people don't seem to have a problem sending back rooted phones but some do. If you don't mind the small amount of effort involved nipqer has a guide to revert back, search the development thread

It is understood that when you root your phone the supplied warranty is null and void. You are doing something to the phone that you were not meant to do by the manufacturer/retailer but is fully capable of doing it.
If you want to attempt to return the phone for a claim under warranty, you will have to revert your phone to it's original factory state. That means getting S-ON (if you achieved S-OFF), unrooting the phone, restoring the factory ROM and restoring the factory CID (if you achieved SuperCID).
There are people who have gotten their phones serviced while S-OFF and rooted, but it will be at the final discretion of the repair shop/manufacturer if they will go ahead on a repair on a device that is technically out of warranty.
Good luck.
Here, follow my guide to unroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442988

Thx very much guys!
I won't take the risk that the serial number of my phone will be registrated as 'warranty void' if they see that the phone is rooted and no original ROM.
I will take a backup of the current ROM and all settings, and I will follow the guide posted in this thread.
Fingers crossed, I have to leave my Desire Z for about 4 weeks and going backup to a Nokia 6300
Thx for all the answers!
Can't understand it.
I followed the guide to go back to stock rom/settings succesful.
The phone was back in it's original state (thx for the tutorial!).
When I tried to reproduce the problem with original firmware: impossible, phone was working for 100%.
Now I rerooted the phone, clockworkmod installed and so on. I reflashed my backup of Audicity B3, and now the phone is working for 100%?
I can't understand... It couldn't be a software problem, or am I wrong? The phone didn't reboot but was 'shut off' in just 1/4 second.
What should I do?
Waiting further, to know if the problem comes back...?
Wow I thought I was the only one!!! I just had this problem a few days ago. Happened if I pushed the bottom of the metal door/cover for the battery. EVERY time I just pushed slightly on it, the phone would immediately shut off.
Seems I have fixed it by just taking the battery out and cleaning off the contacts. I haven't had the problem in a while now. Will report back if it does happen again. But maybe it cleaned itself off from you removing/replacing the battery so many times? lol sound stupid I dunno.
So my device is totally bricked, ive read its unbrickable, so ive been told to use the warranty with LG. What do I tell them? I cant say i was flashing stock from a custom rom can i, do i say I was updating it from OTA and it randomly shut off or crashed or something?
Thanks
The other night my gs4 running OC3 decided it didn't want to live anymore and randomly rebooted and hung at the ATT splash screen. Took the phone to best buy and had them reflash it. The phone would then boot but ran incredibly slow and certain apps just wouldn't open. Fast forward to last night and the network died. My IMEI is gone and everything having to do with the phones identification was wiped out.
I'd like to downgrade the phone from 5.0.1 to 4.2.2 and possibly get twrp onto it. I don't care about tripping knox or bricking the phone as I've already gone and got a new one. Worst case scenario I have a brick, best case I can install custom roms and use it as a multimedia device. Can anyone point in the right direction for experimental methods people are too afraid to test or guides that might help out? I did some searching and found a few relevant posts but nothing concrete relating to this situation. Any help is appreciated!
