no GSM network available - Galaxy S I9000 General

have you guys seen that message before?
it's just something i noticed every now and then when i go into an area of the building that have no cell reception and back to the window, it will not try automatically pick up the GSM signal after it disconnects itself from the GSM network
it used to work automatically in JG9, but after upgrading to JH2 i need to manually choose a network again for it to work the phone & data after disconnection.
When we go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Operators
there is not really any option for it to tick a check box for it to automatically select a network, you have to manually hit the option "Select Automatically" (not really automatic if you ask me )

Use wifi if available, otherwise use 3G/GPRS?

One thing i'm totally confused and lost about, with my new Vario II, is its apparent inability to use the wifi preferentially to access the internet.
T-mobile havent been able to help so far but I will keep leaning on them. The basic question I have is that:
When connected to wifi, I know I can get access to the internet because my laptop is doing it right now. If the wifi is connected (and it works because im transferring files across file sharing), why does the GPRS dial when I fire up an internet app like ie/msn messenger?
What do I need to do to this phone to make it prefer wifi over 3g/gprs?
Also, is it just my device, or is wifi on all these dog slow? It took nearly 1.5 minutes to copy a 4 meg mp3! ~384kbps?!
Start > Settings > Network Cards > Network Adapters (Tab) > "My network card connects to:" The Inernet
That should solve your problem. To a point, anyway. For som reason, Push mail is still GPRS only.
My TyTN uses WiFi when available otherwise it automatically choses HSDPA/EDGE/GPRS to get connected to Internet. To achieve it I set my system in the following way:
Start > Settings > Network Cards > Network Adapters (Tab) > "My network card connects to:" The Inernet (as rassah stated above)
Configure your GPRS connection as My Work Network.
Under Start > Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced > Select_Networks (Network Management tab) set both drop-down
1. "Program that automatically connect to the Internet shoud connect using" -> My Work Network
2. "Program that automatically connect to the Private Network shoud connect using " to My Work Network -> My Work Network
Ahhhh.. I've eventually solved this, I think. Even with what was suggested here, I had difficulty and the phone would not dial gprs -> it just said "cannot connect with your current settings"
It was the last line of what JohnieWalker said that got me thinking - there is a slight typo on the line but other than that, his advice led me to the solution.
For other people experiencing this difficulty, I offer the following advice:
Click Start, Settings, Connections tab. All the applets you need to use are on this screen
Use the Network Cards applet, Network Adapters tab, highlight the wireless card and tell the phone it connects to Work
-- This apparently does something different to choosing "The Internet" in that it allows file sharing etc. The word Work in this context is completely unrelated to the default connection called "My Work Connection"
Use the Wireless LAN applet to connect to your wifi network
In the Connections applet, Advanced tab, press Select Networks
Set both dropdowns to "My Work Connection"
On the tasks Tab, the display has changed to "My Work Connection" -> Choose Manage Existing Connections and add a New one via the button
Enter the details to dial your gprs. These are all over the web
You end up with a connection that is set up identically to the default T-Mobile Internet one (in my case) - for some reason the default one always dials the GPRS whether the wifi is on or not. This one I just added behaves as i expect - if the wifi is on, it uses it, if not, it dials.. Weird!

How to change from GPRS to 3G/HSDPA?

I've got my new phone today and it's awesome!!
For some reason, it's only connecting on GPRS (a "G" in the bar at the top) and I can't find the setting to tell it to seach for 3G/HSDPA networks!
On my old phone, I manually set it to only use GPRS, so this maybe why as the setting is remembered on the simcard (?).
There is an option to switch on and off 3g data access under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Use only 2g Networks

[Q] mobile network checkbox disappeared

After a swap of network carrier, the option "mobile network" simply disappeared from my meny (inside "settings -> wireless and network -> mobile networks"). My network carrier can't understand what's going on, and downloading new access points does not work either.
Does anyone have an idea on how I can turn on mobile network on my defy+? i take it it would start working again, if only I had the option to turn it on
Small update: i got myself a widget for turning mobile network on and off, but still no mobile network.

[Q] Can't connect to Internet

Hi, I use Blade 3 Pro. When I turn off Data on my phone, after a few hours, when I turn it on I can't connect to internet. What I have to do? Then I must go to Settings and check/uncheck (depends of previous state) 'Use only 2G networks'. Internet immediately starts to work? What's going on?
Check something -> settings > more... > mobile networks > preferred network type ... and what is selected ?

In Mobile network setting s I only have:
1) Data Enabled
2) Data Roaming
3) Enable Always-on mobile data
4) Access Point Names
5) Use only 2G networks
6) Network operators
I thing the problem is - not enouth signal strength of 3G network and when you change the network type to 2G you don't have that problem cuz the signal is better.. but this is just a guess i thing...

Good hint, but see this. Yesterday I checked Use only 2G networks, Internet worked perfectly whole day. I woke up tomorrow, tried to connect it fails. I went to Settings UNCHECK Use only 2G networks, internet started normally. Changing settings from previous state makes my internet works.

Why its Manual Network selection needed before connecting MOBILE DATA?

I'm using v2.2.1 oxygen stock os.
I think this should i ask you this. I set my "Preferred network type" as 3g (im using single sim only).
but problem is that when i try to connect mobile data, it works fine for the moment but when i disconnect and then when i try to connect after 1 hour or few hours later, it doesnt connect.
Then i have to select the Network manually and then it works again.
I mean all the time i have to select the network manually first to let mobile data be connected.
also, in the NETWORK OPERATORS, its still saying "choose a network operator" always even after selecting the network manually.
Any idea why it is happening so? coz its very awkward that before you want to connect mobile data, you need to select the network manually all the time.
Note:- WIFI is working fine.
Please send your setting's screenshot for aiding the help.
Thanks in advance.
