[Q] Hiding Control Panel Icons - some still remaining - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I am trying to hide all icons from windows mobile control panel. I know the registry hack by setting DWORD 'Hide' to 1 for each subkey in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel].
I'm using a Garmin-Asus M10 device (Windows Mobile 6.5). There are some custom control panel entries in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ASUS\ControlPanel]. I've deleted all of them.
After all i was able to hide the most of the control panel icons, but there are still some like 'external gps', 'regional and languages settings', 'error report', 'info', 'storage' or 'remove programs' (I'm unsing a german version, so I'm not sure, if all theses translations were correct ).
With the most visible settings i can live with, but it is very important for me to hide the 'regional and languages settings' from control panel. I could not find an appropriate registry entry. I've also checked up [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel], but nothing.
Does anybody know, how i can hide the 'regional and languages settings' from control panel?

Control Panel CPLs (Specifically Soft Key customisation)

Does anybody know how to set under which tab in settings a CPL will appear?
I ask, as I've managed to export the CPL T-Mobile put on the MDA COmpact II to customise the soft keys, and I want it to appear on the same screen as Buttons, but instead it is under System.
BTW, the CPL does work - it gives an interface similar to Buttons for changing what the soft keys do, as opposed to editing the registry. If you want, I can post it here.
Thanks in advance, guys.
Just a question: when you change one of the Soft Keys apps to be run, do you have the <Ok/Close> , <ContextMenu> (all <BlaBla>) options? I mean the options that are not applications?
The reason I'm asking is that I recently hard reseted my Wizard and I stopped the final T-Mobile customization process. But it seems that the Softkeys are no longer present in my control panel, and after adding a SoftKeys.cpl file from a forum, I can only set applications not the aforementioned behaviours (like <OK/Close>).
PS: post the file plz, I'll just give it a try
I think you want to edit (or create) the 'group' dword value under HKLM\ControlPanel\[yourcplkeyhere]\
values seem to be 0 fo rthe personal tab, 1 for system and 2 for conenctions
eg set HKLM\ControlPanel\Backlight\Group to 2 to make it appear on the connections tab.
the cpl sounds handy - can you post it?
Here's the CPL.
Haven't looked at all the options, but you can select New SMS and New MMS, although these rely on 2 files called TNSMS.exe and TNMMS.exe, which I don't see to have to hand. If anyone can post them, that'd be great.
I don't know if it'll work on all devices, but try it anyway.
P.S. How do I find the CPL Key to use in the reg hack above?
I have one which I use for the New SMS function
How to install *.CPL files?
I copied it to Windows directory but it is not there?
Do a Soft reset after copying to the \windows....
then it should be in the Start->Settings-> one of the tabs...

How to remove control panel applets wm6?

You may want to take a look at this tool, one of the most valuable tools I've installed on my Polaris: 'QuickMenu' of Chinese origin. It replaces the startmenu on the windows logo, while the original windows startmenu is still available under 'Start'.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quickmenu-v2-7.html
Functions:
- Cascading StartMenu (fully configurable)
- Cascading Settings menu (windows mobile settings)
- TaskManager (easy switch and close functions from the startmenu)
- TaskSwitcher (create alt-tab shortcut to QM-active-next which you can map to a hardbutton)
- Hibernate/Suspend/Reboot from startmenu
- Execute ...
- SIP panel selector
- Bluetooth toggle (connectable, discoverable, off)
- Batterystatus (in percentage)
- Memorystatus (internal or memorycard)
There's no installer, unzip the archive to a 'quickmenu' folder in your program files and run the exe once. If you don't like it, delete the folder. The only issue I had with it on my previous device was that the 'Settings' menu which links to WM's personal, system and connection settings didn't work correctly, possibly because it was mapped to the 'Settings' function, in stead of the dutch 'Instellingen'. The rest of the functions worked fine.
My Polaris has an english system and QM works perfectly. Great little tool.

Thanks for this. A top tool.
Indeed a great tool, but can you disable the battery status on the upper right corner ? It is messing with the task manager and i cant close or select which program i want.
I tried disabling it from the settings of the program itself, and the battery status gets removed, but i still cant see the task manager icon.
Go into Settings/Task Manager/Button tag and re-check the "Enable Quick Menu on Today Screen"

Bottom Button Customisation

Just wondering how can i customise the bottom 2 buttons.
Currently it has Phone and Camera there.
I would like it to be either:
Camera and Comm.
or
Contacts and Comm.
Also currently im using TF3D2, on TF3D i could display Japanese text in Manila Music Player, however in TF3D2 it just shows all Squares. How can i fix this?
In the program called "Diamond Tweak" you can change those two, I do not mean "Diamond TF3D Config" just so you know.
Another app that'll do the trick is called Softkey Manager. You can find the info here.
got the diamond tweek thing, and did what i want it to do....
now need to find out how to make Manila show Japanese or other language text~!
You can change the language of TF3D in Diamond TF3D Config. Also try Settings > system > national settings and see if there's something about TF3D there.
ive tried switching my TF3D2 to Japanese using a language pack, but it just shows up as all Squares.

Disable Settings / System icons

Hi,
As part of my customization process, I would like to disable some icons from the Setting menu's of WM6.5 (not TouchFlo).
I managed to remove a lot of icons through the registry settings in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Speech, by moving them to a non-existing group (Group=3). This works fine.
However, some of the icons in Settings/System do not appear below this registry key, such as External GPS, Encryption, Remove programs... Is there a way to remove these as well?
Alternatively, removing the entire Settings menu would also be fine. My first approach, deleting the Settings folder from \Windows\StartMenu causes the entire Start Menu to appear empty!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
UPDATE: I managed to remove the Encryption icon by ADDING an 'Encryption' key to the ControlPanel part of the registry. Other icons I haven't so far. I suppose the key lies in correct names.
How can I obtain the names for:
Managed Programs
External GPS
Error reports
Memory
Info
Country Settings
Regional Settings
Microsoft My PHone
Remove programs
Screen
Task Manager
Connection settings
??
Setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo:HideSettings to 1 hides the Settings folder from the Start Menu. That fixes my problem for now!
I rather choose to "hide" my icons.
You can do this by changing the registry like this:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\Encryption]
"Group"=dword:00000002
"Hide"=dword:00000001
This will hide the Encrption icon in the Settings panel. I use this on the Rhodium, Blackstone, Diamond etc. but it should also work on the HD2 I guess
mccune,
The "hide" could be done for entries that are present in HKLM\ControlPanel like Encryption. For those entries that DO NOT EXIST in ControlPanel but whose icons appear in Settings like "Microsoft My Phone", do you have any idea how to suppress them?
Thanks for your assistance.
Noticed there are also some numbers in that registry key. Guess you'll have to trial and error a little to see what number corresponds to what icon.
I'm still looking for a way to hide the "Managed Programs" icon ;-)
Perhaps this program can help you out.....either hide the icons or put them away in a folder......
This program only applies to WM6.5 and also just to the Start Menu. It's fairly easy to remove icons from the Start Menu, just delete the LNK file in \Windows\Start Menu\
The discussion was about the icons in Settings. Most of these files are CPL files.
mccune,
It's exactly that! The file underlying that icon is Windows\MyPhoneLauncher.cpl for the application "Microsoft My Phone". I tried a number of ways to rename the file, rename the extension CPL in CPL2, move the file to other folder, even delete the file in order to remove it from Settings/System but always failed.
The file appears protected as part of the ROM. This is the 2nd day I'm after this problem and I still see no light...
(I tried to use the tool JWMDIconChanger but it doesn't work. Thanks anyway.)

Does anyone know the name of the .cpl file, or the name of the registry key in \HKey_Local_Machine\ControlPanel\, for "Managed Programs"?
I looked, but can't find anything that even remotely looks like "Managed Programs".
