After Rooting 2.2 is done... - EVO 4G General

am i still able to flash to other roms or mods without losing root? sorry im pretty new at this and i just finished rooting. i cant get wifi tether to work nor can i figure out how to remove bloatware from sprint. thanks for your help =)

That's the whole point of rooting..to flash custom ROMs and other mods. Go to the development forum and try one of the custom ROMs out. The instructions on how to install should be with each ROM. Have fun!

Check the stickies. It's right there at the top. TheBiles made a great guide.

If you want the most *stable* go with stock with root. Hopefully by the time you root there will be a 2.2 official version.

confused about rooting

I really would like the ability to completely backup my Evo, wipe batt stats, clear caches, wifi tether, and some other things but I DONT WANT A CUSTOM ROM.
i am perfectly happy with stock sprint rom.
everywere i read about rooting the way the tutorials are worded they make it sound like you have to use a custom rom...
id like to use unrEVOked.
could someone help me out, thanks...
I used unrEVOked Forever and rooted my phone. It was easy and quick. It rooted it and kept the stock rom. I used it for like 2 weeks then decided I would try Warm. If you use unrEVOked, it should keep the stock rom and be rooted. After that, it's your choice to swap roms. I like Warm because it has the stock Sprint hotspot enabled.

You can do all of that and still use a stock ROM.
You don't have to use a custom rom unrevoked installs a stock rooted and you can still update it ota but you loose root if you do custom roms sometimes add some tweaks and functionality that you don't get from stock so they are worth looking at.

i also found this tut..

Use unrevoked forever after unrevoked 3 so you have nand unlocked to do the full backups the other reason is you can get root back slot easier after update

i have to use both?
No. Unrevoked3 unlocks nand. I only used that and I've flashed several custom ROMs.

Your right it does but if you read on just about any forum here it's not a full unlock but by using unrevoked forever you get s-off or security-off which when you're talking about stock rooted lets you upgrade and root without waiting for someone else to produce a stock rooted update rom.

Bloatware

Sorry if this has been discussed. I used unrevoked to get super user access to my incredible and now want to delete that stupid slacker radio, vcast, and VZW navigator crap. Do I have to install a rom? I like sense and don't like messing too much with the phone. I have been running stock software on it for almost a year and only just now rooted using unervoked to install a screenshot app. I hate those bloatware apps with a passion but have put up with them ... now that I have root access I can't uninstall using the normal means. Is there a workaround to get rid of them without installing a rom?

You can install custom ROMs that basically mirror the stock ROM but it has bloatware removed. Just look carefully.
The sticky at the top of the forum links to a lot of FAQ's like this one
In particular:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Incredible/Guides&Tutorials#Removing_Bloat
Even easier, you can use Titanium Backup to do it. Or Root Explorer. Or pretty much any app that can write to the system partition with SU access.
Oh and sorry I am using tapatalk and couldn't find the search feature to reply in thread about bloatware. Accept my apology.
Or, if you don't mind wiping. You can install Nothing Special.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976933
It's a stock rom with bloat already removed.

Ok. So if I flash will I get VZW OTA if they push it out of 2.3? ... since I rooted using unrevoked, but if I don't flash will I get the OTA to 2.3?
Guess I'm just worried ill brick it. This thing is my pride and joy and if I broke it I would cry.

It's almost impossible to brick, it's become so easy to flash roms, root, etc.
Just factory reset if you want to go back. Kinda the point of flashing is to get the latest greatest before it is released. Oh, all all those goodies I am sure they will omit.

The devs here are beating the piss out of VZW OTA's. Just flash a custom 2.3 ROM.

[Q] rooted roms or kernals

Hey there, my friend has a shift and has not updated it to GB. He wants it rooted and I want to do it for him. I am good with the HBOOT and flashing roms with HTC. I was just wondering if there are any rooted stock roms or any rooted kernals I could flash without having to go thru one of those rooting programs. Much more comfortable flashing from Hboot lol.
THANKS
how to root " RUU_Speedy_S_Sprint_WWE_2.76.651.4_Radio_1.08.00.0 506_NV_SPCS_1.88"
If he is still on the shipped 2.2 ROM then you can use the perm root instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932153and then use rom manager to flash your recovery and there are optimized stock ROMS like MikShift V1.1 and BCnice20 has some great kernels.

These might help you out. Seems a little intimidating a first, but read it through a few times. ou should be able to do it no issues. Here's a few links that should help walk you through attaining root.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934165

This last link is for a sort of automated way of gaining root. I have used it with, and it works. But I still prefer the long method of rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976605
I think he's asking if there are any roms he can flash through HBOOT instead of using a recovery. And the answer would be no. Are you scared to flash a recovery? Its easy as pie.

Stock evo shift sense rom

Dose anyone have a stock sense rom? I really don't know Wut is wrong with my phone. But none of my recoveries are working. I just want to flash the stock rom and be done.

Just answered your pm. Do you just want to go completely back to stock urooted? Or do you want to stay rooted, and just run a stock rom? The first two links will break root if you are currently rooted. The third link is for a Stockish rom, stable and fast. The fourth is also stockish rooted rom.

The reason why I went back to the stock rom is every build had glitches, I just wanted a stable rom. So froyo or gingerbread. Just stable
