Software houses are developing great games for iPhone 4 (look at RAGE) and WP7...
why google isn't doing anything to attract software houses???
I don't want to trade my nexus for a iPhone 4 or a WP7 but I think i will, because it seems it will never have such cool games (also due to its crappy multitouch)...
I like playing some games while on travel or before sleep..
I thought this "superphone" would have last me 2 years, but it's already old
Anyone having news/rumors on android gaming side? especially N1's side...
3.0 will help, and the next iteration of snapdragons will SERIOUSLY boost the ability of android to compete [unfortunately the 1GHz snapdragons are paired with a rather old gpu]. The 1.5 dual core scheduled for early adoption at christmas will bring 3x the CPU horsepower and 3x the GPU horsepower, SIGNIFICANTLY above the iphone.
ok, but i think that android should standardize hardware to attract software houses, it's like creating games for PC vs games for consoles, the can squeeze the power out of consoles because of their standard hardware, instead they need much more power to run same games on pc due to they different hardwares
EDIT: will it bring 3x ***** also??
There will be no standardized hardware. Just like in PCs. And just like in PCs, there will be games.
normally standardization does not work with open source/open licensing

yeah, i saw this rumor around but i dont remember him mentioning android at all in his demo. Also, he forgot to mention that your battery will implode in 10seconds. lol
Here is a game that came out recently Galcon
How about my phone plays psx, gameboy, snes.... Games?
Swyped from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yep but most of those games aren't playable because of keys combos that can't be done on our crappy multitouch...
However i was thinking about next gen games
Those rumors are interesting, if true
iOS have more and better games because it's easier to make games for two or three hardware setups, and also because the market is larger (I may be wrong here). The latest sales numbers show that Android kicks total ass at least in the US and is now the number one smart phone platform. That will most probably get more developers interested and we will se some more good games for Android too. It may take a while though, and we may have to wait for newer hardware revisions and Android 3 + as mentioned earlier up here.
Unfortunately all the latest Android devices were released without true multitouch and/or relatively weak GPU's (like graphics card).. Evo, Desire, Incredible, Nexus One etc. are all considered top end devices however none of them have a powerful GPU and some such as Nexus & Desire don't have proper multi touch. I think the release of all these phones definetly shot Android forward in the market and is still doing so now however we're still waiting on the next Android wave to come through bring full multitouch and fast GPU's and then I believe gaming will really take off.
On a side note Galaxy S series phones all have full multitouch & the fastest GPU in anyphone at the moment, more than 3x faster than the one in the iPhone.
Well I play more games on my nexus then I did on my iphone so w.e gran turismo, driver, mario, and a handful of game boy games.

saw that a week ago...
on one side it's cool so that many games will be developed on 1ghz snapdragon platform and hopefully our nexus will see that games...but on the other side it's an old platform, honestly i think they should focus on the next generation processors to destroy iphone and bring an uber cool device
There are some really good android games. to name a few. Nova, Hawx, Asphalt5, Needforspeed shift, Hero of sparta, Modern combat, homerun battle, crusade of destiny, Super KO, Speed forge, Raging thunder, Heavy Gunner, Wave blazer, toon warz etc.
I have a n1 and a Vibrant, and let me tell you the vibrant blows the n1 out the water in real world gaming (not just benchmark crap). Games are way smoother on the Vibrant. The n1s Poor fake MT was the reason I got a vibrant, I wanna play some cool games and on the n1 with the crossing axis problem that was next to impossible...
The vibrants MT is flawless. Absolutely great, that mixed with a great GPU I say bring on the good games... Were ready.
I was curious as to how many are using their Evo as a gaming device as well as its other uses. I started off playing some of the simple arcade and puzzle style games but I have recently been playing a couple of fps games from gameloft and I realize that there is a lot of potential for the evo if the developers will continue with it.
I'm playing home run battle 3d and a couple of other games.

Yeah I have been playing quite a bit of old NES games with nesoid.
CM6 + wiimote + wii steering wheel + gps dash mount + dremel + gorilla glue = emulator fun. I have been mostly playing old SNES games, but I have a 40 minute bus ride to & from work so I have to kill the time somehow.
Until I saw the demo for NOVA and Sandstorm I never realized that 3d gaming had come so far for android. Those are the 2 main games that I am playing right now.
It's perfect for RPG's which is my favorite type of games. Play final fantasy tactics as we speak. I never owned a ps1 myself so theres a lot of rpg games for me to play.
Am I the only who likes Meteor Blitz? It's just about my favorite handheld game of all time! Like a Geometry Wars mobile.
PSXDroid is pretty nice. I continually encounter graphical glitches though, which is utterly annoying.
SandStorm is neat, Nova is a fun FPS as well. Pretty much most of Gamelofts releases are enjoyable. Well, minus Assassin's Creed.
There's a guy working on Starcraft for Android, but I think the projects gone dead in the water.
Finally, Quake III on Android. Or, Kwaak3
Also, this may not be the best place to post anything about iOS, because I know quick people can be to hate on the iPhone. But Steve Jobs aside, who else is impressed by Epic Game's Infinity Blade and Mutant Bash TV by Id running on the Rage iOS engine?
I'm totally floored by it to be honest. Had no idea a 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM could achieve graphics on this level.
It's only a matter of time before a company creates an engine like this for Android Devices. Development is either already in the works or right around the corner.
*Cough* PSP Phone *Cough*
The prospects are incredible! The only thing that bugs me is that I use to play my old GameBoys till the battery died when I was out and about. It will just really suck if I do the same with my EVO. That would put my day dead in the water if I didn't have a back up battery or wall outlet near by....
I am waiting patiently for oooecao to release their games!

Those iOS games are insane, I can't wait till we have them on Android. Epic has already demoed their Unreal Engine on Android so we will definitely have some sick games coming soon.
BTW, what ROM/theme are you running in the pic in your sig?

I know, they just need to come out with a decent controller for handheld devices. I almost want to go out and pick up a WiiMote just for my EVO. I have a PS3 controller but I've read that it will probably never happen because of technicalities with bluetooth between the two. I use my PS3 Controller to play Halo on my Netbook, so much fun! Makes airplane flights a breeze.
Just put a vice grip on a pad with a few buttons and put on a MicroUSB connector with an input on the pad for charging and call it done.
I keep reading about people whom have tested some of these Rage iOS games complaining that the controls blow. Especially Mutant Bash TV, it's tilt shift. I mean REALLY!? I tend to get p'd off at DoodleJump, let alone an FPS.
Stock ROM, unREVOked. Theme is custom.
Better off with a epic, you got the keyboard for controls and better GPU.
which is my problem... I don't use my phone for gaming, so it has no use for me lol

Lol, 4 of my friends recently jumped on to the Epic from TP2's (we all get the same phones, its kinda wierd) But i have an Evo. I play games on mine and its pretty good, but i tell them that games play better on the Epic due to the GPU/CPU and none of them play games, haha.
I got the usual great android games on plus, snesoid, nesoid, gensoid, psx4droid. The emulators are much better when rooted with a kernel that allows for better multi touch,(I'm currently on kings bfs11). I have hundreds games just between the emulators. I would consider psx4droid unplayable unless u had such a kernel. The biggest problem with playing the games is the lack of better multi touch, and thats y I will never b unrooted again.
Swyped from my Evo
they need to change up the controllers. Instead of using the forward, back, left, right motions on the screen, use the gyroscope to do those, and then in the left hand have the movement of the gun, and in the right hand, have the shooting or w/e.
Has anyone here tried Heavy Gunner?
I've been on a real gaming spree ever since I got the Evo!
Super K.O Boxing is really nice
SpeedX 3D is my favorite!
N.O.V.A was a b*t*h to get working, but it's by far the most graphically intense game.
Caligo Chaser is alright if you like more cartoony RPGs. The best part of the game is that when you adjust your gear it visually reflects on the character, lots of choices too!
Fruit Ninja is a fun, friendly style, potentially competitive style game
I just tried Meteor Blitz, thanks for the recommendation! I do wish the movement controls were less sensitive however.
Android is a fantastic platform for gaming, unfortunately it's not the only one and developers are limited
I tried a couple of the emulators but the game rom's I downloaded showed the game on a tiny screen and the controls did not work well at all. I guess I need to try some different games roms. Sandstorm is as graphically intensive as NOVA if not more so. I tried Avatar but the gameplay was a little confusing for me at times. Bottom line is that android is a great gaming platform and the Evo is a good hard device for gaming. I have a kindle and a zuneHD and was getting ready to get a psp. Now the Evo is truly an all in one device for me. It will do what all of those will do. Sure it uses a lot of battery but I would rather switch batteries during the day than to cary 3 or 4 devices and chargers when I travel.
MMORPG: Pocket Legends. That thang was just released today.
?
so why is it so hard to get Need for speed shift? why not in the market? why are there no good games in the market? on my old iphone i played many awesome games like nfsshift, street fighter 4, fifa soccer, chaos rings most of all Grand theft Auto chinatown wars. when i look in the market, there a bunch of crappy games, i mean common no words with friends or scrabble or bejeweled? my opinion, get a 64 gb ipod touch, you get your games and great music integration with itunes, plus 32gb extra possible storage. and its thin. i love my evo but no-matter what mods i do to it its not good at graphic intensive stuff, i cant even run the ocean waves wallpaper without it choppin like Jackie chan.
p.s. also looked for pocket legends, nothing in market for that either
I am a recentish owner of the Desire HD. I'm loving it. I flashed a custom rom on it and I love it more. I am well aware of the horsepower in this baby and that iphone 4 is nothing compared to it... My question is this: Why do major game developers avoid android, and go for the iphone throwing out all sorts of super games that would work even better on the DHD (and please avoid the financial part, i'm well aware apple brainwashed many into buying iphone 4).
I had to post this topic because I feel a bit frustrated seeing gameloft develop nova 2, dungeon hunter 2, etc. for iphone and android gets Shrek Kart 3d... REALLY? Ea games barely developed 2-3 games and popcap is in the same boat but with 0 games. (with a near-future release of games).
There are quite a few HD Gameloft games that work just fine. Just not the newest ones that you mentioned (DH2, Nova2 etc) because they just came out for iphone and are probably not ported yet. I'm pretty sure though that they will come out eventually.
Check out their homepage, you can buy all the games directly there. All the good ones are available for android but not all of them are in the market. At least where i live (europe).
Keep in mind that the DHD is half a year old and one of the first really powerful (gaming wise) android devices. So i think in the future lots of good games will come out once the hardware is reasonably spread.
[e] I just read a news that gameloft is working toghether with Qualcomm now (who made the chips for the DHD).
Yes, i know about the android games and where I can buy them from, the thing that bothers me is that games for android are "ported' and not built. It's really demeaning, plus it loses a bit of quality imho

The reason is simple:
1. As powerful as the DHD is, the current generation of adreno, lacks in comparison to powervr in the iphone 4, it can shift nearly twice the polygons adreno can.
2. IOS only uses one CPU chipset, there. Are now 2 diffent types used in android (arm & omap) each of these chipsets use diffrent types of textures in 3D games, meaning for android, devs have to write the game twice.....

I've always been frustrated with gaming on Android. Even since Android 1.5 people have been saying "give it a little while and Android will be equal in terms of gaming" but it still hasn't happened. Not that long I know, but I honestly find it hard to believe it ever will in the gaming area.

Gaming has improved and quite a lot. Have you tried Gunbros, Fruit Ninja, Dungeon Defender, Mega Jump, Rocket Bunnies, Angry birds, Reckless racing.
And the futur is looking brighter with the Unity engin (IOS most famous game engine) being ported to android.
Well, indeed the processor architectures differ in android. But major game developers hsouldnt have an issue with building two games, they have enough people. ALso are the games so easily built on the iphone? because android is always the last platform that something gets released on...
Android 3.0 was ok for the only 4 games gameloft released then it came 3.1 and every game fails...gameloft released only 2 patches for asphalt 6 and heroe of sparta and tells everyone it was android fault and that they are waiting for them to fix it... 3.2 came and now i cant play any of those 2 games because of the new stretch to fill sent all to hell, graphics looks awful and there is no way to control it. I have also tryed old games that does not fit the screen (and use 3d graphics) and they work awful too. Anyone have the same google experience?
funny, the games i've tried all work fine. Like Trials, the emulators, and dungeon defenders. Maybe Gameloft should just stop sucking at building their games.
lol, poor Gameloft. They finally decide to stop being lazy(for lack of a better word) and make some games for the Xoom, then 3.1 comes out so they have to update all the many(4) games they have for the Xoom, and now 3.2 comes out.

it's a shame cause I'd totally buy at least Nova, but they suck at making their games compatible for some reason.

Funny how many other games work perfectly well and only Gameloft is having issues that are the fault of the OS.
Let me give you my advice I always gave my programming team - don't write bugs
Gameloft games beats any other android os games out there in terms of quality and gameplay. The other games that works well are casual games. Sure they have compatibility issues but i can understand that because of the screen size, graphic card, ram, touch screen, gamepad, etc. The problem i have is that when there is a 3.x update they always f'up something and games or apps stop working. Many devs quickly update their apps to fix the problem but a company as big has gameloft it must be a pain in the ass to update that frecuently a game that already worked fine in previous version...its not their foult after all.
Seriously? Gameloft games are mostly trash. I wouldn't say they are totally bad but they are definitely not the best game dev.

Hello,I'm from the Xperia X8 community.I'm going to get a replacement phone soon.Do you recommend Xperia Play?
Wow, you really like your Sony / Sony Ericsson phones eh? I love my play. But it was an under powered phone on launch and it's almost (over?) a year old now.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much you think you will game on it. For gaming, there is no better phone.

I really like gaming. There are so many phones out there but I don't know which to pick.
get psp or ps vita if you really like gaming.. unless you don't like carrying many handheld you could buy this X-Play.. but of course with the battery limit if you do gaming a lot/non-stop you have to re-charge every 4-5 hours ( i think it's so not convenience if you'd like to use it as phone too)
You want my opinion on Xperia Play? It's a good idea but not exactly what it SHOULD have been.
Pros:
- gaming controller, the only phone on the market with this feature
- good selection of Xperia Play-optimized Android games, some PSX games
- many good emulators that support the controller
- nice design, nice big screen - in my personal opinion
- Sony's support with newer versions of Android (they even promised Ice Cream Sandwich)
- quite a good camera, decent phone overall
- "openness" of the Android system (as compared to iOS)
- you can "root" it, install custom ROMs - advantage for some but not for me
Cons:
- single-core CPU - many people say it SHOULD have been dual-core
- lacks internal RAM - you will know what I mean when you install a bunch of apps/games
- weak battery - I charge twice every day, but I admit I play games excessively
- ICS is reported to run with problems as the machine has single-core CPU
- game selection seems lacking IF you have experienced the iOS (iPhone at al) library
- only some of the best iOS games get ported, and it often takes too damn long (e.g. Temple Run, Dungeon raid)
- Android will never get Unreal engine, hence no Infinity Blade for this phone (again, I PERSONALLY view this as a disadvantage and NO, I don't think Blood and Glory is a decent substitute)
- games OFTEN lag due to insufficient RAM
- you SHOULD root it and install custom ROM if you want to improve performance - or that's what I've heard
I'm sure I've forgotten something, but this is what jumps to mind immediately.
Coming from an X8, I'd say its a worthy upgrade. You'll free yourself of lag and horrible ARMv6!!

It's simply awesome.
A lot of analysts and the crowds of typical spec-counters tried to pre-conclude that the phone would fall out of relevancy because of it's low specs... but as always, they're never savvy enough to consider GPU, memory quality, optimization and such (the TRULY important specs)...
...and at the end of the day, it's still beastin' all the benchmark games, still running smoothly, still doing everything flawlessly, still the ONLY smartphone with physical controls that work with over 300 games... and currently, it's getting more gametime than my Vita does.

Really pleased with this phone.
A little underpowered but it's still ok.
Low internal memory is not a problem with Link2SD
You can find it cheap (i've got mine few month ago for 200E -with no contract-)
Battery is a lot better than my HTC Desire (at least it was, i updated to DoomKernel and custom rom and i've got some battery issue now. Working on it...)
My gaming usage is mostly on emulators.
So, in my opinion, problems are software not hardware :
To use N64 Emulators, you have two apps : N64oid and Mupen64.
Mupen will works with touchpad on gingerbread, but it's slower than N64oid and have a lot of bugs.
N64oid works a lot better but support touchpad only on ICS. But on ICS you get some lag on this kind of hight end emulators, so you have to stick to gingerbread.
Kinda the same thing apply to the PSX emulator FPSE -touchpad only on ICS-, but it's less important because only few PSX games needs touchpad and there is an other emulator using stock emu to play some iso with touchpad
is not the best hardware but play with the pad have no price.

Er, I don't think you can play that on Xperia Play. I mean, it's exclusive to Tegra 3 or something?
Whereas, on iOS you can play Infinity Blade on a range of devices
Does what I want.
It's a smartphone that's not really lackluster at anything. Great for games, great for everything else Android does too.
As far as specs go, it's technically supposed to be underpowered... yet it's silky smooth, and easily crunching through pixels like a fat kid on candy... with ALL the benchmark Android games.
