Confirmed working on Matt 1.6b with PPP on TMOUSA. Solid data connection at full H speed (2.5 mbps dl, 1.6 ul).
So what's the catch. This seems too good to be true. (Does TMOUSA use WCDMA, or just GMS?
Great find Seaman2k!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
using darkstone froyo 2.1
it was already GSM auto
dont works for me...

That does the exact same thing as simply going to
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
I change to GSM auto but I get a decrease in speed, only 30kbps. I get better speed using wdcma through only 400kbps
I am in Singapore using starhub

Lol, that's what I thought. Is t mobile hd2 different in some way?
Well for me those settings didn't do much, per se.
But i did click on the menu button and changed the band to my country and the speeds on speedtest went from 56kbit to 900kbit.
I am in WCDMA prefered and no problems with my network.
It works good.
i think you should change title to work in progress , as i see this is working for some but not all
what a speed
hi
just did that and the speed go crazy, i mean down: over 4 MB and up is 1.6 MB wow great !! thank you

No it isn't the exact same thing always. I have the shubcraft 1.4d build (PPP) Changing to GSM auto hidden menu fixed my 3g connection. But it is not the same as configuring Network Mode. You can only tick/untick "use only 2g networks" with some builds. Which also does not affect the hidden menu setting.

WCDMA is actually 3G GSM. (WCDMA should not be confused with CDMA which is NOT GSM) So GSM auto means you are still using WCDMA whenever there is 3G signal. It is probably a bug and auto mode just works better. I believe it most likely changes the threshold for 3G signals. (which are usually weaker than 2G in most places)
It worked for me BTW.
ok changing my location helped - now i`m online

Hi eveyone, I just got my HTC Magic a couple of days ago and have been finding my feet with it since.
So far so good only I have an issue with sending pitures to another phone via bluetooth.
All past phones I have had for as long as I can remember this has been a fairly straight forward process but I'm getting nowhere with my magic.
I can pair with other phones but it says "paired but not connected". When I select the connect option nothing happens? And if I select the photo and select Menu -> Share bluetooth just isn't an option?
Anyone point my in the right direction please?

Android does not support any bluetooth services other then "hands free".
This means that you can only use BT headsets.
Android (either G1 or Magic) phones cannot natively send files over BT, cannot use BT a modem, etc...
There is not third party tool so far to send files via BT to other devices.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Wow , no big deal I guess, I'm just tight so used to send pictures via BT rather than MMS. Perhaps one of you clever "app maker people" will see the hole in the market.
I'm missing this functionality too
Since you have the entire internet in your hand, I can't really see this being an important feature I'd much rather just publish the photo on Facebook, mail it or something (and if the other device is primitive and the picture necessarily has to be transferred, use MMS^^).
Isn't Google gonna release an update for the HTC magic U.K to have this feature???

It's not just about pictures, two days before I got my Magic I was on a business trip in Portugal, we had a long boring flight home so a colleague asked me to download his favourite Podcast via the hotel WiFi and Bluetooth it over to his phone for the flight (his roaming charges would have cost a fortune). I did that fine with my phone at the time but couldn't do it now with the Magic.
I have also used my phone as a sort of USB storage device, quickly putting files on it from my laptop and walking to another laptop on a separate (and non-connected) network. BT is easier than faffing with USB ports or wires

I found it under Bluetooth Fileshare Bluex. I bought it this morning so it is there. Try searching for 'bluetooth' and check though the list that comes back - there's not that many.
This app works a treat the only thing missing is Bluetooth from a PC to the phone. Phone to phone and phone to PC work just as hoped for. Developers site here Worth a few rating stars in the market.
Does anyone know if this app could be developed for non-rooted phones?

I'm also in denmark. I need this app, a phone withouth bluetooth fileshare is so... iphone ie, ridiculus.
This omission is probably due to Google being a US based company and I have never even heard of anyone in this country transferring a file over bluetooth. It's either a nonexistent feature on our phones or just one of those things that nobody takes advantage of. In the US, bluetooth is synonymous with hands-free headsets and little else. If you ask ten people you might find one who has heard of A2DP, but that's about as complex as bluetooth gets around here.
Most people use the word bluetooth as a noun to describe hands-free headsets. "I'm driving so I'm calling you with my bluetooth!"

What an odd world we live in Transferring files via bluetooth is almost an everyday occurrence here and a modern phone without this function is extremely rare. Just glad it's on the mend.

So.. Did you set it to:
Qualcomm MSM72xx (CDMA)
or
Qualcomm MSM75xx (CDMA)
or
Samsun (GSM)
I'm talking about the setup part for WMLongLife (the application that you found)
You will need to set it up to make it work.
What settings did you use on your HD2 ? mine just keeps crashing after installation. And the whole device is slow now and battery runs out fast lol.. it should be one of the gsm ones..
It seems to work with the bottom samsung (gsm)
i use the samsung (gsm), i seem to be runnign it fine im not sure ive came across any issues yet, could it be another app messing with this one for the peopel with issues
Please can someone share all settings for this app. What check boxes did you check/uncheck etc.
For me it does not look like it's working the way it should.
I do get a popup asking if the application is allowed to access "internet", but after using the application it does not terminate the connection. (even when set to 15 sec.)
Also when I start "Band Switcher", and press the button "Disconnect data" it does not drop the data connection.
I've set the Radio Schip Model option to Samsung (GSM).
I been doing a deep search on Google and haven't found nothing about skype for windows mobile 6.5.

You run it... the leave it open and open Skype. All audio is then routed through the earpiece. You speak like you would on a normal phone.
Running skype alone without this would mean needing to use BT headphones or the headset or sound comes from the loudspeaker... THis app is extremely useful if you use Skype!!
i have the same problem on HD2, this sounds like a solution, i will try it. thanks for the file. otherwise i might just use the headset came with it.
chimpsinties,
Is this your GPRS Monitor capable of showing GSM RF related parameters like Field Test? Where did you download it? Is it capable of Monitoring UMTS too?
and a few more things with Skype:
#1
I have S2S lock and I like it as many times I forget to lock my phone, but it kicks during a Skype call and kills audio... dont want to disable S2S, nor want to put my phone on charger.
There is a option in Skype's Menu/Setting, namely "Prevent device stand-by mode when online". Changing this parameter does not seem to make any difference...
#2
How can I get Skype to remember my password? However I dont want Skype to start up automatically
#3
auto change between landscape and portrait modes based on G-sensor is possible somehow?
thanks!

The GPRS traffic monitor has the following options that are not configurable. You can select between what's there but you can't add more yourself. I guess it auto detects what's available cos when I had the TMobile shim in it knew to look for that connection instead. This is just a trial version but does what I need it so I've not looked into what the pro version gets you.

Then it lets you know how much you've used that day/month/total etc

Also download: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0_2-pre14.apk (Latest WiFi tethering app)
Now youre ready:
1. Download those files.
2. Connect you're phone- and mount your SDcard to your PC.
3. Copy fw_bcm4329.bin to your SDcard, Make a folder on your SDcard called Android.Tether.
4. Paste fw_bcm4329.bin Into Android.tether on your SDcard.
5. Uninstall older versions of WiFi tether on you phone.
6. Install the lastest version of WiFi tether. (NOT MARKET VERSION)
WiFi tethering works flawless now, without the need to set static ip and ping'ing.

Ask Paul
I was also kind of "fuzzed" by that when I tried wifi tether on MCR, also that it doesn't work is a fairly known problem.
Sweet! It works now
Hmm... maybe not! An iPhone do see the AP but a Desire and a HD2 cannot
It works fully 100%, it's been confirmed numerous times. So problem is on your side, bud
What do you mean Desire can't see it? You have two Desires laying side by side?
Thx so much for this reminder.

Yeah, I am at work with my colleagues around me (iPhone, iPhone, Desire and HD2) and the iPhones can see the wireless network and connect to it, whereas the Desire and HD2 cannot even pick it up.
If some phones can see it and others can't what do you think the issue is?
I know that the desire cannot see ad-hoc networks which this method is based on, explains the Desire but I dunno about the HD2.
Froyo's wifi tethering works in master mode though which is lovely and will work on all wifi devices.
I have a question : what type of wifi network is wifi-tether ? adhoc or infrastructure ? Does the phone act as an access point ?
Actually, it is not working a perfectly as it could. My laptop computer sees it as an "unsecured" network although WEP 128bits is enabled and password set. (and it's not a bug from the computer, there are other WEP secured networks available in the area which windows see as "WEP")
Read my post above, it's ad-hoc. WEP seems to work perfectly here.

it's optional man, if you don't want it you don't choose it...and there is a way to make it work for someone who wants it badly.
anyway, i just tried the new version and it works great, absolutely awsome on my desire with MCR3.1
oh ok, so that's why. must be some kind of admin restriction on my corporate laptop. my bad.

lol, nice AP name at the top of the list
Btw - I can confirm this works fine on MCR r3.1.
Encryption/no encryption and the speed is great.
Hi all xda folks
I am starting this thread because I thing there is no proper solution to long gps fix time problem. I want to share my observation with a hope of helping solve this little prob. In most other ways our android port is solid and in my opinion comparable with most native android devices.
Now to avoid people saying that I just didn't search the forum I'm aware of partial solutions like :
1) Using Gps status app to download A-Gps data
2) Using WM QuickGps to download gps data using WM
3) Switching to proper gps region using gps.conf
...
Now I would like to sugest (from my point of view of humble user;-) )possible solutions for the devs but don't get me wrong I don't mean it to offense anyone.
I'm not a dev just trying to help.
1) Write something what does exactly that thing what QuickGPS does just to do it from Android environment
//Cause right after QuickGPS download fix times are minimal
//This would be enough fix for me ;-)
2) Find out what is wrong with current gps drver or any a-gps or any things helping to get faster fixes
To the second point a have an observation I wanted to share. When using GPS Test app to get fix on HD2 you don't see the signal strength bars before you get fixed. But as I saw on Desire the bars show up immediately and just change color when you get to the fix. But its just a hint. I don't know if it does mean anything.
Desire screen !!!

in my experience its build specific.
every desire build I've used (currently m-deejay's revolution) has the gps issue.
Cyanogen Builds do not (currently using michyprima's Everyday Builds).

pretty much
Cyanogen builds can have the issue too, I've had major problems on shubcraft and very slow locking on hyperdroid.
The main problem is that Android can't write data to the gps chip yet, which is necessary to be able to use the 'a' from aGPS. (That's exactly what QuickGPS does, and because it's written to the gps chip, Android can access it but not update it.)
So unless someone manages to give Android write access, I don't think there's a whole lot we can do, except for the known gps.conf and libgps tricks.

And that would easily explain why it works in WinMo...but does not clearly explain why some users have quick lock in Android (I am not one..mine takes 3-5 minutes sometimes).

I'm not too sure either, but I think it may be because of QuickGPS too. I noticed there's an option to enable gps data download whenever activesync is enabled. Most people boot bank into WinMo for installing a new build, kernel or whatever, and would that way actually run QuickGPS at least once every week. But I'm by no means an expert, this is just what seems to me a plausible explanation.
I thought quickgps "just" go to internet, and download the satellites positions into a text file? If you don't do that on wm the first gps lock is slow, the second on a same period is quick because the phone now knows where they are. Too bad android can't so that for now, maybe with gingerbread...
So please can someone of you who say that its build specific post the build and kernel with which it is working you get fix in less then lets say 15 secs?
Thanx

First part is true, problem is that WinMo can store these files on the gps chip, Android can't. Android can only read data from this chip, hence QuickGPS being a valid fix.
Android can of course do this, we just can't on our HD2, so gingerbread ain't gonna fix any of that.

I believe I've had it fixed in shubcraft 2.0, JDMS 1.6 did a pretty good job too. Might've been total coincidence though, I'm still not sure if any of this is build related.
Today I asked on #htc-linux and it seem that devs don't see the problem I spoke with markinus and he told me that he has fix in about 4 sec. So maybe it is not kernel problem.
I still have huge problems with GPS. Doesn't matter what ROM or radio I use it doesn't lock, or lock after 1-5 min. Outside or inside doesn't change anything. It's not a problem with week signal, my friend with HTC wildfire get it within seconds sitting next to me. I use kwbr rom with 2.15 radio.

I find this pretty strange.
With quickgps you have to download the data, you really see a progress when downloading, and the file goes to the windows directoy. xtra.bin is the filename.
If you remove that file and reboot the phone you have to wait a long time to get a gps fix again.
In Android you have no clue if it downloads it, and where does it go? Try to do a search on that file. I got 0 results so I actually wonder where it is and even if it works?
