So when I was on R2BA023 (rooted with the method from Bin4ry, Biktor_gj, jerpelea, et al.) I was able to use the little microphone on the HTC IME mod keyboard, and on the Google Search widget to speak instead of type my messages.
About 3 weeks ago, I re-rooted my phone using some other method on here (and updated to 26), and now I can't do speech to text.
Just wondering if it's because of the root method, or if anyone knows how I can get it back?
Thanks for any help...
somewhere in the settings there is something you select to make it download the speech stuff. you must of done that at some point on the old firmware
Alright, did some research, and basically, you need an app called "Google Search By Voice"...not sure if I put it on, or if it was in the 23 root package, but either way, it's been removed from the market for some reason.
I managed to find the apk, here's a link if anyone else has the same issue:

It's been removed in place of Google Voice, which is an all commands in one application for either 2.1 or 2.2. I don't remember which.

i really want vvm and a stable rom as my phone is for work. can i just add and install the vvm apk. and install it and all be good? thanks in advance. ive tried fusion and youmail and not crazy about either of them.
Don't know about your question, but have you tried Google Voice?
yeah, but dont i have to have an invite? not sure exactly how that works.
Thats the same thing I thought, but I just went to the market a downloaded it!
Give it a shot!
How about trying it and finding out....let us know how it goes...
and its working properly? you get your vm's?
Ha, ha, it was but I hated everything about it!
I just need standard voicemail, but some people love the hell out of it! Give it a try you may like it!
Let me know if ya need help!
R u running Damage 2.1v2? If ur running his latest Sprint build vvm should work. Mine works like a charm... u should be able to take the apk from 1.1 since the app hasn't been updated in ages lol. Just push it to system/apps using Fresh Pre Kitchen, reboot, wallah!
thanks, would you happen to have the link for the apk?

I do not have a link, however if you download one of the roms that has VVM you can extract and push the file Sprint_Core.apk to /system/app. I accidentally removed it from DC2.0r2 and had to push it and it worked. but that rom was meant to have VVM.
Edit: Just uploaded file. (I think, lol first attempt.) http://www.4shared.com/dir/35253414/d223e4c4/sharing.html

Did it work for you? And what rom are you using?
Just installed the vvm apk from damage to the fresh 2.02b rom and visually its working like a charm. Have to which my settings over from gv to see if it'll actually receive messages. But thanks for the actual apk name because I had been looking for the vvm apk under the app name.

Yes I accidentally pulled the apk while shrinking the original rom too as it was not listed in my apps. So i made a copy of the rom that i flashed(needs to be one built off of official sprint rom i.e. any of the 1.5s or damage's latest 2.1 leak) then i unzipped the copy onto the desktop for simplicity. Went into system/apps/ found the Sprint_Core.apk and used fresh's pre-kitchen to push the file to system/apps on the phone. Just reboot and viola! I'm on Damage's new 2.1 Sprint leak btw.
A lil ot but can anyone confirm the link I provided is working? I try clicking it and it takes me to my 4shared acct.

I learned the hard way. Called sprint, chatted with them to no avail. i could not remove conditional call forwarding. The kept telling me *720..
It didn't work. *730 and *720 will remove call forwarding. You have to do both if you did*28
hey working method to install This Should Work "Worked for me anyways"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can alway make a back up of build.prop by making a copy and renameing it to build.prop.bak fyi
"the value in build.prop where it says something like VVM=true needs to be set to false, then you can grab it from the market.
just searched...
its about 3/4 of the way down, saying vvm is preloaded, change it to false." "all pulled from another post somewhere"
this has worked for me again after changing up to GummyJar 2.5
ohh and change permissions for Vvm.apk in root explorer just ck them all thats what i did and the attached file has everything done but permissions and placement of files goodluck and dont forget to make a backup & reboot
1 mount system/apps R/W
2 place vvm.apk in system/apps
3 change permissions "ck them all even tho the first two user ones and the first 1 on the other 2 should be good"
4 make backup of build.prop you already have by renameing it to build.prop.bak
5 place attached build.prop "came from Droid2" to system or just make a copy of your own open it with notepad on your PC and edit it
6 reboot should be installed in the app drawer
Goodluck and hope that was detailed enough
this method has worked on my Droid 2 and my Droid 2 Global and someone elses Droid X it should work for you too
Hi All,
The 1.13.604 update is failing for me and I will be the first to say its no ones fault but my own. After rooting my phone I used Titanium Backup to backup all programs and program data. Titanium made it look like everything went ok.
Then I used Titanium's uninstall feature to remove the following "bloatware":
Amazon MP3 1.7.22
City ID
Voice Search 1.4.0
NFS Shift 1.0
3G Mobile Hotspot 2.1-update1
Voicemail 1.0
Voice Commands
Skype Mobile 1.0.0.9
My Verizon 4.0
This morning I read that the 1.13.604 update can still be rooted so I tired to install it and it failed on me. Then I went back to titanium and attempted to restore the apps I removed and they all fail for some reason(I dont think it backed them up correctly). I have checked off "unknown sources" under applications. If someone could please post the APK files associated with these apps and list their respective install locations they would be my personal hero
Thanks in advance,
jvward
Update:
I have managed to get the following APKs:
Amazon MP3 1.7.22
Voice Search 1.4.0
Voicemail 1.0 - (this one is a maybe)
Voice Commands
My Verizon 4.0
I am using a Droid x dump to get them but if anyone knows the name of the 3G Mobile Hotspot 2.1-update1 apk or has a copy of it my spider sense tells me this is most likely the issue.
Thanks!

Quick Question
Is there anyway to run logging while the update applies so I can see exactly what is failing. As of this point I have everything put back in its original location accept for the NFS shift Apk since I cant find it online. I am not sure if this is causing the error or something else. Is there a way through ADB I can see the progress of the update and what is not working
Try un-rooting then apply the update. Then re-root. Root does work with the 604 update (as I updated then rooted).

I believe 3G Mobile Hotspot 2.1-update1 is Mynet.apk. Please keep us posted on your results. I've rooted and I'm already at .604, but it's nice to hear that updates succeed.
May I ask which tool you are using to root? Also, do you unroot using that same tool?
Does anyone else has this problem?
I can't find Google voice when i search on market, using A500.
So, i tried to follow direct link to app in Market. Still - it will not install it.
Any known workaround?

GV isn't supported on Honeycomb as far as I know
This may only be possible if you're rooted, I can't say because I've rooted every Android device I've ever had. This is the way I got GV working on my Nook Color and Acer A500, both running HC.
Ok, first if you have GV on your Acer make sure every trace is uninstalled.
Downoad the apk and install GV 4.2.24 on the tablet (BUT DON'T OPEN IT)
This is very important, also install GV 4.2.24 on your phone.
Then I copy the shared_prefs folder from data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice on your phone and put it on your computer.
Navigate to data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice on the tablet and paste or drag and drop the shared_prefs folder inside data/data/com.google.android.apps.googlevoice
It should not have that folder yet but if for some reason it does just overwrite it.
Then you should be able to run GV. If my memory is correct it may crash the first time, but after that it will open to your inbox.

Hi,
I am kind of new to Android (not linux) and I am asking myself, if it is even possible to enable the search function somehow in Google Market.
There are several attempts to do so and some report it working. Unfortunately, the working reports are so old that I am confused weather it is still possible or not.
I have tried several Vending.apk's, even the ones reported working as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15084704&postcount=51
I am on 1.1.2. Maybe someone could confirm/disprove Market search working or not. Then we would know if struggling is worth the task getting it to work.
Thanks for the reply

Use SearchMarket.apk to search for apk's in the market.
It work's if you have registered your gmail account correctly (that is your market.apk works/connects to google play).
http://www.appbrain.com/app/searchmarket/youten.redo.searchmarket?install=appwidget
yeah no, that was not what i meant.
Of course Market is working with a proper gmail adress. I was talking about it being possible to search the market w/o searchmarket app. Like people telling it would work, but most posts are still of 2011. So my question is: Is it even possible to search the Market in nowadays Google Play time w/o 3rd party apps?
Why is searching not possible? IMO, it is because of server restictions, not because of the Vending.apk. Right?
So I assume these "claimed to be working" Vending.apk's are not working anyway anymore, are they?
Thx
How can I get the SearchMarket.apk file for manual adb installation? My Nook Market app won't let me install any app.
Edit: Managed to get it installed by searching for it from within the Browser and installing from the web interface. Weird but after that the SearchMarket app was shown topmost on MyApps in Market and could be clicked, which begun installation.
The problem is Market for Nook only displays a limited # (~15) of MyApps (given I have a Galaxy S3 with 350+ apps installed and that the Nook Market doesn't restrict to Nook installed ones).
just download market search from gstore ....... log on gmail acc that u root ur nst with and go to google store and search ur appz ur desire and download to ur acc ....... once u connect ur nook to wifi ur appz will download successfully , between that i am use market seacher on my rooted nst 1.1.2 and works great till now , try methid above with reinstall market searcher
good luck

Just in case.
youten.redo.searchmarket.apk
The apk itself is free so i guess uploading it here is not illegal.
I recently uninstalled (deleted) the apks of certain android apps like gtalk, calendar from my system/app folder on my rooted NST using root explorer.
Not sure if it is related, but, unable to install any app now from the app market. I use app-brain app market for downloading apps.
I'm able to find the apps, but on clicking on download, it doesn't get downloaded and instead says it is 'downloading' without any apparent change.
Is the problem related to the deletion of certain apks?
Note: haven't deleted any apk even associated with the word download/market.

Solved it. I Had uninstalled gtalk thinking it was unnecessary on the NST but it broke the market.
Installed gtalk and the market started working fine again.
You are sure you didn't uninstall anything?
What is the error btw? It takes you to the download page but the download doesn't begin?
Please help someone. I rooted and installed titanium backup and superuser and busy box successfully on my AT&T galaxy s4. Had no problems whatsoever with that process. Went buttery smooth..
However, when I go into my GALLERY or a lot of other options, I automatically have this error pop up which freezes my phone for anywhere from 5 seconds to 30, sometimes having to reboot entirely and it keeps happening no matter what I do. The error says "Unfortunately Samsung Text to Speech Engine has stopped" all I can do is click OK but it keeps happening. I read a post from 2010 with the Galaxy S I believe it was stating there was a similar issue and it involved KIES software but those instructions didn't help me.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how can I correct it? Thank you

I did the exact same thing. Deleted some bloat ware (including chat on) and S Voice stopped working correctly. Kept getting "unfortunately text to speech engine stopped" error. Even though I had a back up on TB I it didn't fix the error message. I tried changing from samsung to google text to speech but then my S Voice didn't work. Finally I just unrooted it (youtube How to Unroot & Unbrick galaxy s4). Very simple and straight forward. It took it back to factory firmware, then I just rooted it again. And now I'm obviously not going to delete chat on. Just thought I'd share for anyone who uses S Voice a lot.

Just load up your firmware file again and it will restore everything back to normal.
How do I do that? Pls be kind to explain

What fixed it for me was a combination of suggested solutions.
- install ChatOn and ChatOn Video and Voice Calling from the Play store
- change Language and Input TTS options to Google
a. Freeze Samsung text to speech with Titanium - this will make all apps use Google TTS instead
or
b. Convert Samsung text to speech to a user app in Titanium - now you can select it again and download HD voice packs to actually use the samsung TTS which sounds really good with the new packs.
- (optionally) uninstall ChatOn and ChatOn Video
Follow this thread in case you want to remove Bloatware the right way.

What actually fix my phone was flashing the latest firmware via pc odin. Because I download chaton it didn't work, I did everything mentioned and nothing worked for me. So I freeze samsung tts through titanium backup and kept using Google tts. That will solve it but I prefer samsung tts cos the voice is clear so I flashed my firmware and got all my apps back working.

Thanks for the posts, it definitely is ChatOn causing the issue. I was able to restore Samsung TTS doing the following
1. Restore ChatOn - requires a reboot
2. Restore Samsung TTS
got it back and avoided unrooting, or attempting reloading firmware.
Hope this helps!
