Hi all..
I am using handcent and when i click on the Speak button it shows a pop up 'Recogniser not present' whats the solution?

Just to clarify, you're pressing the little microphone, right?
Same thing happens to me...It used to work fine once I rooted my phone, but then about 2 weeks ago, I flashed it and rooted using a different method, and now it doesn't work.
Would also really appreciate a solution...

Just wondering, but do you have the Text to Speech library for android installed on your phone? I use handcent too but I never get this message. You mean where it speaks out the text you get right? I haven't found a way to dictate texts though
My handcent speech thing works ok to dictate texts but as an extra if you use the HTC_IME keyboard the speech function on that lets you dictate a text onto handcent, not sure what languages it supports tho and both can be a bit random on the translation from my voice to text.

I got excited about this and went to the beta page. It said it was still closed, and about two days ago I submitted my email address and stuff. Out of desperation, I tried to log in with my email and password. Strangely, it let me in. I hit resend email, and it sent me an email and let me download it. About five minutes after that, I got another email saying that I've been accepted into the beta.
Did I have lucky timing or is that a way around it? Try it out.
Will this be free or pay?

I never use it, but I'd like it for completeness. This is Android, I wouldn't even mind if they made it something ridiculous like a swype command (Swipe from the Swype button to the letter V). At least quick search has the voice button on it. By that, I mean the system search thing.

Maybe I am spoiled but the voice to text in froyo is better then the one on the 2.1 ROMS and I use it all the time while driving etc.
Still no official release. At least I'm in the beta.

I wish they had a dedicated button to launch voice entry for the times I want to use it

do they have more than one language in that beta?
Yes, Spanish and Italian.
They need a hide keyboard button on the Swype keyboard. It gets rather annoying when you need to hide it and can't.
I am with you on the voice button. That is the one thing Swype needs to add to their keyboard. I dont use it all the time, but I want it to be there for when I need it.

You do that by hitting BACK... it is different from the other keyboards but I have gotten used to it now.
just got in the beta. first time I've ever used swype. im sold.
My droid x keeps on freezing when I try to use voice to text in any setting, such as swype or the search widget. My entire phone locks up with the rotating throbber frozen in the center of the screen, and I have to hit home in order to get out.
Everything else is fine, and I have no issues as long as I stay away from voice to text. Does anybody else have this problem? I think it's the google voice to text service crashing, but I'm not running a task killer, though I used to. Turning my phone off and restarting makes everything fine.
Any ideas?

I've been experiencing this since day one, even after the update. It doesn't happen often, but when it does I just kill the voice recognition app and then it works okay. It's only locked up on me once that was bad enough I had to do a battery pull.
What's the name of the app you kill? And after you kill it, can it be used again, or is it just disabled until you restart your phone?

"Voice Commands", and "yes" respectively.
I've ben having same problem.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I have no clue what's causing this problem. Killing Voice Search/Commands seems to be the only workaround at this point, and that doesn't exactly fix things either.
I just did a factory reset to clear up another problem and it seemed to have fixed the vice search also. I recommend trying it.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I have had the same problem as well...but I think mine only locks up when I'm using the swype keyboard. So maybe that has something to do with it?
speech to text locking Droid X
I too have been having my speech to text lock up, and notice it happens when using other programs ie. Handscent with swype. move to multi-touch keyboard and it is fine. Has happened with other programs and swype as well.???
Doesn't help when killing voice commands on the Droid X. Only when changing from Swype to Multi-touch keyboard. I love Swype, but maybe love Handscent more :-(
Need to make them play nice together!
This is happening to me and I don't use swype. Has happened on and off when using pretty much all "voice command" type situations. Will lock up once, then after a force kill will work fine next time.
Not sure about this, but doesn't the voice recognition feature have to "call home" to the internet to work (and that is why it takes so long for voice commands to initialize as well) so could this be a problem with connectivity timing out? I could swear I read somewhere that one of the future update plans includes allowing the speech recognition to work without having to connect to google online.
If this has been posted before please delete, but I believe I have solved my issue with the physical keyboard missing keys. I turned off all the software keyboards and swype it seems to have done the trick.
Problem is I have to change it everytime I switch batteries. Is there a way to do thi?

Yes, I've read that swype (enabled) is most likely the culprit.

Bingo, it can be annoying at times. When typing long emails and texts, be sure to go back and proofread what you just typed (good practice anyway). Turning off swype did seem to help a bit.

would make it a software issue then..not hardware =D good to know
I was able to type several paragraphs with all the soft keyboards except for Swype disabled, and I don't have the missing key issue anymore. I simply disabled the Samsung and Android keyboards. I use Swype way too much to disable it.

I use keyboard manager to help with this...
Install keyboard manager along with touchpal from market free (completely).
I have Swype enable and have it set as my portrait keyboard
Then when I switch to landscape keyboard manager services changes my kb to touchpal in a fraction of a second without any interaction.
What awesome about touch pal is that it offers some of the best spelling correction word prediction with our hardware keyboards. Takes a while to get used to but by far is the best solution for me as not only does it fix the random keydrops but it also spell checks and suggests words on the fly.
I was using the Windows Mobile Version for a long time before changing to android, but absolutely love Swype for portrait one handed.
In a previous post I made I pointed out that the lag I found to be software and not hardware... if you long press on many letters you will get a popup instead of repeat keys these seem to be the cause of the drops, after using touchpal, if you long press a letter it quickly repeats.

Trust me I have been using CooTek products for years they are a reputable company... Chinese or not.
PS you could try with another keyboard but I think the key is touchpal, all i can say is if the keyboard your using gets rid of the OS default popup that happens when you long press on a key it should work. I wish there was a dev that could just figure out how to disable this all together as it happens when there are no soft keyboards active,,, I am sure this is the cause to our missed keys try ee or oo in words 7/10 times it will miss if you are fast this is because its trying to determine the length of time the key was pressed to display the box of options.
I can't get keyboard manager to recognize touchpal as an option...any ideas?
NM, have to play with the actual system settings first
Hey all - running stock, rooted on the latest MJ7 update and it seems since this update the stock Sammy keyboard refuses to remember any custom words I input. For example: go to my banking app and enter my user ID in the required field ... I opt to remember the my user ID but once I back out of the app the word is forgotten. If I stay in the app the word will be remembered, but once I exit the apps the words are gone. It's like this for every app! I've tried everything to get it to remember words but nothing works! It was working fine before the MJ7 update ... I've cleared app data and cache, Uninstalled Xposed and nothing seems to get it working ... switched to Swype and it works fine there so it seems to be isolated to the Sammy KB.
Anyone else seeing this with the stock keyboard?

Got the same problem here on my not rooted EU version (not branded). It's the only thing that I find really annoying on this phone, but I don't want to use another keyboard because of handwriting recognition and the number row. Can't believe that we're the only ones here who recognise this bug...?
Additionally I even don't have this personal dictionaries point in Settings. Sometimes e.g. after a bracket the double-tap for a full stop isn't working.

You actually can add new words. all you have to do is go to SETTING / CONTROLS / LANGUAGE AND INPUT/ hit the gear next to SAMSUNG KEYBOARD/ tap on the words PREDICTIVE TEXT and then tap LEARN FROM MESSAGES. Once this is done, start a text message and then hit the white arrow that comes up. Your phone has now learned the word that you wanted it too.

I have a GN3 from Verizon. Every time I text someone or call a contact my phone freezes up for about 15 seconds. This happens mostly when I'm texting. I'm not using a stock keyboard but it does it just as bad when I'm using the built in one. This happens constantly but I don't see any other threads on this topic. By logical deduction, if this doesn't happen in any other app when you're using the keyboard, then something is up with your messaging app.
Does this happen in any other app? Have you tested it in a 3rd party sms app like handcent?

If your still completely stock, I'd try factory data reset. You'll lose everything, so definitely back up what you can.
Once the reset is done try texting with no apps installed. If it works fine, I'd slowly install apps while testing the texts to see what is causing the feeezing.
