I have a GN3 from Verizon. Every time I text someone or call a contact my phone freezes up for about 15 seconds. This happens mostly when I'm texting. I'm not using a stock keyboard but it does it just as bad when I'm using the built in one. This happens constantly but I don't see any other threads on this topic. Didn't figure I could be the only one.
Any suggestions?
What keyboard are you using? Are you stock/rooted/custom ROM?

By logical deduction, if this doesn't happen in any other app when you're using the keyboard, then something is up with your messaging app.
Does this happen in any other app? Have you tested it in a 3rd party sms app like handcent?

I use Swiftkey as my keyboard. However, it also freezes when I'm in contacts trying to make a phone call not only when I'm typing. It just happens most often when I'm typing.

I just wrote about this exact issue using hangouts as my default SMS. Once I got rid of it, everything went back to normal.

I'm not using Hangouts as my SMS client.
If your still completely stock, I'd try factory data reset. You'll lose everything, so definitely back up what you can.
Once the reset is done try texting with no apps installed. If it works fine, I'd slowly install apps while testing the texts to see what is causing the feeezing.

Did a factory reset on Saturday. So far so good. Today is the first day back at work so I'll get some stats today.

Had this happen quite a few times.....sometimes when I click on the messaging app it opens up a random app that I have open in the background.....can't seem to fix it...occured on both launcher pro and adx or w/e the other launcher app is called....any solution?
This has been reported before. I remeber once, someone had set a swipe function accidentaly on their messaging app shortcut in the dock, and that was the culprit. I also remember this happening to people on touchwiz launcher, but it's never happened to me. If the swipe thing isnt the problem, the I would reccomend downloading an app such as Handcent sms, go sms, or chomp sms. Hope something in this post helps you.

Have you tried restarting? I know it sounds stupid but a lot of weird glitches can be solved by a simple reboot. If that doesn't help a cache/davlik wipe might.
Texted while driving
A restart does fix it....in fact an task manager end all works as well....just kinda annoying. If it happens again ill try a different SMS and see if I have better luck.
Normally this only happened on DI18, I never saw it happened after the 2.2 builds came out.

this is quite annoying, sometimes I have to hit the back hit hundreds of times, backing out of my entire history of the day at times. It happens with other apps too. But messaging is my most used one. I think it is related to holding home, and selecting the text app while in another app.
I've had this issue too... welcome to samdroid, the beautiful world where samsung has changed everything and broke it
Happens to me all the time to. Have to reboot. Only started after 2.2 never on 2.1. Wish someone could look into this as I know nothing about phone software. I did not use the ota to update I did a .exe update so it was clean.

I've experienced inside the messaging app, it'll sometimes open up somebody else's conversation. I believe it's just a glitch or my phone lagged at the time I pressed the screen. Good thing I notice it before I sent unnecessary texts. haha
I'm running CM 7.0.2, and my MMS messages still don't send. I've tried using the stock messaging app as well has Handcent. Any ideas? I don't send many, but when I do I'd like it to work
Try uninstalling handcent, when I first flashed CM7 that what I had to do.

looks like that might have fixed it. thanks!
I seem to have the same issue but I've never installed handset or any other 3rd party messaging app.
Edit: omg still cant get used to autocomplete... didn't realize my post was riddled with typos to the point of nonsensicalness.
Currently on 54.zip (or maybe 55), I forget. To scared to update to the newer ones due to bootloop issues.

Cool, seems like the stock messaging app is almost like handcent anyway except you cant customize it like handcent.

I too have been using HANDCENT since my HEROC days and i never have any problem whatsoever.
I am currently on CM7, the latest version and I could say that sending and receiving MMS works just fine. I have to say though that the sending part takes longer than usual at times. I am thinking that it could just be your network signal being weak, thus the taking forever to send happens...
When in doubt, clear cache and force close manually...
Have you guys tried the gestures in stock messaging? Very cool and useful.

I use GoSMS Pro as my default SMS app. Works great, looks great, is great.
Except for one issue:
People are receiving my messages twice.
I use the Quick Reply function very, very often (and I know that most people have this issue solely while using this feature.)
Does anyone have a fix? I'd like to continue using the app and the Quick Reply feature, but it's a little embarrassing to have people receive my messages twice.
Thank you.
You need to uninstall the stock messaging app using titanium backup text messaging is the name of the apk. Then uninstall Go SMS Pro, and reinstall it. Done
Won't that get in the way of future updates?
Can I freeze the stock messaging app instead?
Sorry, new to android here lol.
try it and see what happens (freezing) worst case you defrost it.

Don't uninstall the stock app as it may prevent you updating in future. Freeze instead so you can thaw when a new update comes out.
I think the latest update said they fixed that issue. Are you running the latest one?
mine works fine
Mine works fine I'm using it on top of ginger blur 3.1

I had the same issue (GingerBlur 3.1) got to the point where I had to just go back to stock. Though handcent worked quite well.

I can't say I'm a big fan of handcent, and I am running the newest version.
The people who complain about this problem are saying that it's a hit or miss. Sometimes they come in twice (but often, multiple times a day), and sometimes they don't.
It's gotta be a problem with the popup window.
Meh
The stock text messaging app always shows 1 unread message on its icon. It's very annoying and I can't find a way to make it go away. Go SMS makes you buy the premium app to sync facebook photos and Handcent is ugly as sin and doesn't seem to handle FB pics either. Only the stack app does this right, so I want to use it. but I can't get the unread count to go away. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've seen reports of this problem on other forums. Solution there was a factory reset unfortunately.

No problems here. Instead if going straight to factory resets you can try force stopping it and restarting it in app settings

Good idea he could also try clearing cache and deleting settings for the messaging app.

checking in... same issue.
My issue is not so persistent but still noticeable. I considered it an annoyance but becoming more and more disheartening.. I haven't pain close enough attention as of yet but will begin to. That being said, grain of salt here.. seems to be happening mostly when a text comes in while plugged into my pc via usb. The missed messages indicator seems to go away after viewing (of course) then letting ten or so minutes pass..
As stated tho, i haven't been paying enough attention to it to say these are solid observations.
Even though you'd have to redo your home screens, this is better than a factory reset - but clearing the data on the stock launcher should get rid of that.
Recently, I've noticed that the Messaging app will automatically set itself as the default SMS app. I don't like the Messaging app, I don't want to use it. How am I able to stop this from occurring?

Well, that provides me some relief. It's been happening with all of them for the last two weeks. Messenger, invi, Textra, QKSMS, etc. I'll format sometime I guess.

This happens to me constantly. I want to use hangouts as my default messaging app, but it randomly (or so it seems) switches back to the stock messaging app. I did notice that when this happens it also switches back to the original lock screen (I use GO Locker now).
I thought about removing the messaging app (my phone is rooted), but I'm not sure how that would affect the phone. I also can't seem to find the app under the list of apps I could uninstall.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

you could try freezing it with titanium backup
Don't freeze or remove the stock messaging app. I switched from ART runtime back to Dalvik, after reading that somebody experienced problems upon switching runtimes. Are you by chance on ART?
Edit - I also ought to mention that I haven't had it reset since I made the switch.

Cool, I'm glad I asked before I tried to do so.
As far as I know I am still using Dalvik runtime.

Switching to ART and then reverting to Dalvik would be my only suggestions then at that point. I hope it's resolved, I've been loving Messenger. [emoji14]
