I know that USB Host is possible on the Droid 1 but I am wondering if anyone has tried it on the D2. I would assume that it can but I haven't heard a word about it.
I plan to give it a try but I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it.

Yeah, it's there. Haven't tried it. Did try the windows media sync and it works too.
I'd be curious to know if USB host mode would allow doing things like playing audio or video out through USB adapters. Right now I use an iPod Touch to play videos to the car LCD for long trips with the family. I wouldn't mind ditching the iPod in favor of the Droid2 (or perhaps some other Android-based device).
Apparently it doesn't workon the Droid 2
I've had several posts out in different places for awhile. I've tried the cable hack, without success. Recently someone posted on one of my threads that the cable hack doesn't work with the Droid 2. (You can look for post 405309, USB-Host-Mode at androidpit)
I'd love to hear of someone that has had success with the Droid 2 and how it was accomplished.

USB Video out
Its in the works. Wish I knew more about programming so I could help. This development is ran by SIS for a product called DisplayLink. The windows version works with usb to hdmi adapters. Check it out:

Is it possible to connect USB hard drives to the phone to access its files? I think I read something like that in a review a few days ago. It really got me wondering. I think the reviewer said the Nokia N8 also has this feature. Can anybody confirm?
There is a youtube video showing this, its several weeks old (searching for galaxy S2 usb host should bring it up, at work so can't get into youTube to supply you a link).
Thanks a lot! Seems to work just fine!
Here's the video if anyone needs it:

Yep, looks good. I purchased an el-cheapo adapter from Ebay to try out when I get my SGSII in a week or so (its been confirmed to work with the Xoom, so hopefully will work here too, the official ones aren't slated for release until June).
Be interesting to know whether it will do more than just USB drives - USB keyboard/mouse/gamepad support would be nice too!

It seems working smoothly with a probably FAT32 usb stick, the question is would it do the same with an ext3 (don't even dare to ask NTFS...) external hard drive?
Go to the accessories forum and look at my thread there on USB OTG - my video is a lot better than the one shared in this thread FWIW.
I am sure this has been asked before but does anybody know of a rom that has USB host support. I am trying to run an app for my camera and it requires this to work.
I'm on the same boat, trying to buy that application, but i have looked all over the internet but no definitive answer, looks like the droid incredible has the function, I wonder why they EVO would not, I think we are going to have to take a chance, if it works, great!! If it doesn't, we'll be out $15.
Its not the rom that gives the phone host support, its the kernal and many other factors that make it work. I don't think its going to ever be possible on the evo.
It will be a very cold day in a normally hot place before you see USB host. I tried, and it's not that the hardware won't support it, just no dev interest.
Hey all-
Just got the Razr M and am loving it so far. On a side to note to this topic, I have to give a shout to the CyanogenMod team. I was using CM7 on my old Incredible and it really gave the phone new life. One of the reasons I picked the Motorola was the fact that they seemed to have the closest to 'stock' android out there. I have noticed that a lot of the things I loved about CM7 are included in the new JB operating system in the new Razr. I'm not as much of an expert at many of you, so I don't know who was talking to whom there, but it really seems like Android got the best bits of the CM7 release installed stock in my new phone. I'm sure I'll find gripes and get the urge to root this one after a while, but I had to give credit to the CM team for a great product.
Anyway, here's the reason for my post. I was stuck trying to transfer files between the phone and PC to no avail, much like many other people I came across on the net while researching the problem. I ran across a solution at another forum that worked for me (I don't know why, but there it is...). I went to the development tab and chose 'allow USB debugging' and 'allow mock locations'. For some reason that got the Motorola connect software (which I installed out of desperation and takes me to Verizon's unwanted backup website) to realize my phone was there, and also gave me full access to file transfers.
If this is old news, please disregard, but at the risk of sounding like a noob I'll post it in case it helps anyone else.
Cheers!
Ryan
I have tried that numerous times and even reinstalled the drivers a few times and my phone still won't show up in my computer, what os are you running? I'm running XP pro still no dice..

I'm running Vista 64 bit. You may mock me now!
I just let Motorola install the drivers, didn't go to the website and add extras or anything like that. Sorry about the issues, good luck!
Another thought?
You know, I forgot about this, but it bears mentioning. I have one USB port on my PC that operates at 1.1 speeds (or whatever it was before 2.0). It was one of those fancy cases where there were all kinds of extra goodies on it, but for some reason just this one lone port wouldn't take anything at 2.0 or better speeds for the life of me. When I plugged my data cable into that by accident, it timed out with an error. When I used a proper USB 2.0 port, everything went find\e. So, it may be a long shot, but you might want to check that you're on a fast USB port; otherwise, the timeout error sort of looks like a complete hang/crash...
I am pretty sure all my USB Ports are 2.0 I could be wrong tho, I installed the drivers with the software from the site that maybe my problem actually, I'll try again tonight
::Edit:: ok so I found out my USB Ports are not 2.0 I had my EVO 4g plugged in charging and when I got home my PC had a dialog stating that my device would perform better on a hi-speed USB port, that's a bummer cuz it is the only port I have

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right section where to post, I have scrolled down the home page until I've found this one. This is an android console based on Rockchip cpu so I guessed I'd give it a try with my problem. If not please forgive my dumbness and move the thread.
I have bought a GPD XD console that works very flawlessly beside one big huge damn problem I am not able to resolve.
One day I tried to hook it to my TV and looks great. Then I wanted to connect my 360 wired controller via USB otg. No luck. Then I tried ps3. Same. Ps4 controller? Again nothing appears on screen. Mouse, keyboards, flash drives, just nothing. Also updated it to last firmware. Tried 3 usb otg cables, 2 cheap one and one with gold plated connectors that costs more (dunno if this changes).
So I tried some of the methods I've found online to test the otg support and actually otg support is ok. What wasn't ok therefore, is that I had to download 3 xml files and putting then into permissions folder and allow them but still nothing happens. Downloaded then a vold file to put it into etc folder and again nothing works. The apps i've tried all tells me the otg support is ok but find me no otg signal
Actually usb port works for charging the device or make it visible to pc but this damn otg won't work.
I tried almost anything, . I am kinda noob at this but if usb works for charging and pc I can assume is a software issue and not an hardware one, or is it possibile the otg function depends on usb port "broken" even if usb port works for other operations?
Please I would be very glad if you could help me. Since it's passed too much time for a refund and send it back in China for a replacement will costs me a lot and takes like months if not one year as I've read around.
I guess I choose the wrong section

oh i wish i had. Do you have the same problem?
Does anyone have an idea what Amazon calls their status/notification panel? Like is it an APK? Is it tied into something else? I'm trying some things, but I haven't been able to track down it's source. I may have completely missed this one, but until I'm accused of being blind as a bat, I'm stumped!
I changed the title of the thread because I wanted to add another question to this when I posted it, but had forgotten what I wanted to post.
I have downloaded a few apps for both my phone and my Fire HD 8 that tell you if your device is USB OTG (On The Go) capable and if it's turned on. Both my phone and the tablet have USB OTG both are supposedly working. Question is: Does a USB OTG adapter work on the tablets? If so, what kind do I need? I see several types on Amazon and some have every connection under the moon. I don't want to waste the 5 dollars or less if it doesn't work.
I want to be able to use my phone to talk to my tablet and unless you jerry rig a standard USB cable (I tried and the biggest problem is getting the rubber and plastic off the micro USB plug), USB OTG cable is the only other way I know of.
