ok well im slowly getting to grips with my touch, now obviously it comes with windows media player, i have also installed core player.
on my pc i have total video convertor and pocket divx convertor. which program should i be using to convert various avi's that i have to get the best quality, what format should i be converting into, and what program should i be using on my touch to watch them, iv had a few attempts and everything i convert seems to come out rather jumpy etc and just not good to watch.
thankyou.
Please use the search function or atleast google. This has been addressed many times over. In fact, it's been discussed so much that several great xda members have even made various programs/applications which will convert whatever input to an output which performs best on the HD. Most of these are in the Applications part of the Blackstone forum.
In a nutshell, the built in TF3D player is the best way to go since it's the only player which uses hardware acceleration and will give best results when playing mp4.
sincere apologies, i was just being lazy
will search now and delete core player lol
Hello pugme
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112 and download this free video converter it’s the best one out there. The Touch HD has its own player and the quality of these 2 apps together is superb. If you put the converted films on to your sd card in a folder called films or what ever you want then start/programs/album/albums/storage card/films then select to play or add albums to your programs short cut.
Quality when watching is like half hd
use Duttys ROM with coreplayer i can play pretty much anything i want without jumping, dont get me wrong the converting programs on here are very good but why convert if you dont have too!
At first sorry for my crapy englisch,
I have al little question, and wundering if you can help me out.
Is it possible to get a movie from a dvd to play on my tp2.
I understand that i have to rip the dvd to my computer.
Thats the easy part.
But than, i have to make the size of the movie smaller, so it wil fit to the sd cart and it still has to be converted to a size that the tp2 will understand.
Is the a cab. file for my tp2 that will allowed my tp2 to realy plays a movie.
And wich software i can download to convert a ript off dvd to tp2 size playing.
I already tryed some converter programs, but the will not make the movie work on the tp2
I have a 4gb sd-cart so the zise off the movie will fit the sd cart.
I hope you untherstand the question and can help me out
Greetings Camiel

Maybe this will work for you!? i havent tried it but it looks pretty good.
Heres another convertor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=492261
I personally use AVS video convertor -http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?sct=inc&ct=google&cid=67 it is a paid app but very good and simple to use, but i'm sure there must be free versions of a similar program available.
also i convert to MP4 and play using either Coreplayer-http://coreplayer.com/, TCMP-http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/or the built in HTC Album video player. others use different formats for higher compression(to fit more on the sd card)..... Definately think about trying out/buying CorePlayer as it is a great media player.
These are easy to find, use the search box at the top right and you can find a lot of information for our devices. have fun!!
Welcome to the forum
Video converters
I personally would look for a program called Format Factory. Search for it on google. It can convert any video, audio ,pictures etc into any format you want and best of all, it's free.
My favorite converter is dvd::rip (http://www.exit1.org/dvdrip/). I've converted movies to 480x256 that play beautifully with CorePlayer.

Does this convert movie files into that size/resolution or just DVDs?
I use a program called DVD Catalyst. It cost me like $20 but I can rip into any format and screen size I want. I use the free TCPMP to play all my movies on my TP2.

did::rip will only covert DVDs (after ripping them), but I think installing it will also give you command-line tools to be able to convert other formats as well. I haven't looked for a GUI for that yet.
I dvdfab to rip the DVD to my hard drive and AutoGK to convery to Xvid format. Both are really easy to use. I use the basic free DviX player to play them. Not a very nice player but it's free.
The best one... is FREE!!!
Being Dutch, you probably would like to have your subtitles included, something US and UK people does not take into account when looking for a media coder.
Here is the best, multilingual, I set profiles for my wife's Nokia and for my superb Tilt2 (and my old Fuze as well).
It comes with the codecs and the tutorials and all you need to rip any movies/DVD into your phone.

If you have a decent movie player (like CorePlayer) you can actually watch regular PC movies on the HD2 without needing to re-encode them.
I watch DiVX movies on mine all the time.
Try Ojos Soft Video Converter and convert regular DVD's in MP4
not free...but the Blockbuster app does have some pretty cheap downloads. Or you could always rip your own dvds and transfer them to your SD card
Movies on your HTC HD2
You won't need to pay for a converter. I've been using "Videora" and "Super" with some success. I have not been able to play an avi file on the HD2. However it will play MP4. Windows Media Player Mobile doesn't seem to let you watch anything in full screen (big surprise). I'm assuming you already know how to rip your legally owned content into a vob file at least. I used Videora and it does a fantastic job with some files like avi and mpg but the audio is not very good. I can't seem to solve that problem no matter what settings I use. Super will work how ever I can't find the proper settings so that the movie doesn't look squished on the HTC HD2 screen. Some of the movies I had converted for my iPod touch work perfectly on my HTC HD2. Some didn't. I hope this helps you.

Can you tell me the settings you are using on videora, i have been playing with it, but i keep getting stuttering audio and video, tho video is not as bad.I have the latest version that says it is for the hd2 but the hd2 isnt listed in the drop down box.
try Aimersoft Video Converter. It seems to convert my dvds without a problem. I have my bitrate around 1500 so my videos come out around 1.2gb a movie. Or you can try Super C. That's free as well.
CorePlayer will play any "regular" avi file (DivX or Xdiv) the best.
If movie sound is encoded with AC3 then use TCPMP player.
HTH
and how can I get the CorePlayer ?

Coreplayer is not a free program you have to pay for it. http://coreplayer.com/

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any luck adding movies to the streak. Ive tried to put a digital copy from a dvd I bought on it and it never shows up. Can someone please help. And sorry if this is a repeat question.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I usually upload vidcast (video podcast) to the /video dir in memorycard. Works like a charm.
It is probably an codec issue...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Use Rockplayer if your codec doesn's get recognized.
Otherwise I like Meridian player most.
Doesn't this type of movie have digital rights that only play on certain progs. I.e windows mob. Media player? I know I've had this issue with loading movies in this format to a phone before.
Is it in MP4 or avi? As the stock player wont play avi files N I would also recommend rock player.

Thanks I will give rockplayer a try.

VPLAYER seems to be the new kid on the block that plays all
DVDs on the Streak
The best solution I've found by far is SPB Mobile DVD. This software allows you to put a DVD into your computer's DVD drive, run the software, and it will convert a full length movie into an .avi file of about 500megs that plays really well with Rockplayer. Just copy it to your storage card and enjoy!
I got SPB Mobile DVD when using my former WinMo phones (came to the Streak from the Tilt2). Most of the SPB software I used on my windows phone is forgotten now with Android, but this gem really works well! Hope this helps!
can I bypass the download security on the stock att Dell streak so I can just put movies on it from the wed.... like from 4shared... when ever I try to download from a site it says unknown download not aloud..... any info would help

OK so now I have dolphin browser on it and rockplayer and still can't get movies off of 4shared it downloads really fast and its not the hole file.... man all I want on this sick 5" screen is some really nice movies. love the phone have had it for two months this thing is just awsome...... just really would like some movies.. PS no CPU any more need to be able to do it from my streak
When you say no CPU, do you mean you don't have a computer to move stuff from?
BTW, you won't be able to play digital copies from bought movies on the Android platform. They only work through iTunes devices or Windows Media Player. Since Android has neither, you can't play the file no matter even if you get it onto your phone. DRM will stop it from playing. I would see if you could find a DRM stripper, or just download it, or use a DVDtoMP4 or something program.
ya no computer to move movies on to the streak.... oh well thanks anyway im just going to pay someone to put movies on my sd card....
I hope I don't incur the wrath of the mods here, but if you have an unlimited data plan, you could always go to one of the well known forums that i'm not allowed to mention, where you will find rapidshare/megaupload links for hundreds of movies that have been converted for watching on smartphones. Of course, before you download any, you need to check you own an original copy ;-)

I used dvdfab, amazing program, converted a movie that i used to have on my ipod, it was set to mp4, converted it to mp4 for general devices, used rockplayer, works like a charm.
I tried playing it on streak player, it works but everything seems choppy.

Get a program (of your choice) that will rip a DVD into mp4 format. Choose the resolution of Android 800x480. Easier said than done sometimes, since DVD copy protection can sometimes be a factor. WHat I find is the best way is this.
1. Get ImgBurn, and DVDFab (for the copy protection). if this is not legal here, I apologize. Img is free, dvd fab has a free version
2. create an ISO of the DVD.
3. Get Elaborate Bytes Virtual Clone drive also free.
4. Mount the ISO you just created.
5. load up your DVD to mp4 converter
6. convert to mp4 with the android settings of 800x480
7. copy the resulting mp4 file to your streak. the default video player will play the file without issue, as well as any other program (rock etc) that supports playing mp4.
the program I use at home for the conversion to mp4 supports most major devices by name (i.e. iphone) but the streak is not listed. In playing around with it, I found there is a specific setting for "Android 800x480" and it works perfectly. Aiseesoft MP4 Converter Suite is what I use, and it allows for the conversion of DVD to mp4 and the conversion of basically any other codec out there to mp4 (xvid, divx, avi, wma, etc)
I've successfully converted the Hot Tub Time Machine, Night of the Demons, some Voyager shows, and all play without fail.
if you need more info, email me, I'll help where I can.
I have searched high and low... this is crazy. I have my entire DVD collection ripped from DVDfab to VOB format and it works great with VLC player, WD Live tv, etc. I copy the movie I want to my Xoom and no player will play the friggin files. Some of the players will play the first VOB file, then just die out. Never making it to the next one.
I really do not want to convert or pay for a coverter to switch to MP4 formats...
What players have you tried so far?
Just about every single video player in the marketplace. Rocketplayer, vplayer, doubletwist, etc. I just found a VOB merger.
http://beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/joinvobfilestool.html
Merging hot tub time machine right now and see how it goes.
I have vob's too..i just used Total Video Converter to convert mine to mp4 ..you have to pay for it but im sure there might be some free converters out there.
It seems like it is soooo close to working by default with Rockplayer or Vplayer. Its like the same mess I went through with WDLIVE box to get to play videos.. finally it works great now. I really do not want to convert and take up that time....
This might be a dumb question, but did you try changing the extension to .mpg?
It won't solve the finding-the-next file problem, but at least they might play?
It does actually somewhat play. I have the Black Knight and it has a fairly large VOB file and on my xoom, it spits it out perfectly through HDMI using RocketPlayer. But once that VOB is done.. it craps out.
Try Moboplayer.
Yeah, no love from mobo either. Its seems so easy.. but I guess not... Its like I just turned the hands of video playing back 12 months to my WDlive box and everyone trying to get it to work as well.
Your problem stems from the weird way you chose to store your videos. Ripped videos are usually converted to MPEG4--ASP (DivX) for older stuff, AVC (H264) for current stuff. Most players therefor are designed for MPEG4, not MPEG2, and not the VOB container.
Your method was OK for the PC because it has a mature software ecosystem, and lots of available players. On mobile devices, you get hit by a double whammy of hardware restrictions and limited software. Most every current Android player is using ffmpeg lib, meaning no HW accel. HW accel will come for Android, but not for MPEG2. Online videos are all using MPEG4 AVC nowaday.
If you want to stick with VOBs, then buy a tablet geared for PMP use. The Archos Gen8 currently can play VOBs, as are a host of no-name Asian tabs. Chinese & Korean vendors have a long PMP history, and typically have strong video support. Their downside, for now, is no HC and low build quality.
Versatile media playing is one of the "Killer" features that Honeycomb should have had from the outset as it one of the obvious features that Android tablets could beat the iPad on hands down.
Research has already shown that a lot of tablet use is made at home and the large screen is perfect for media playing. MPEG2 and VOBS have been around a long time and when a low powered WDTV media player or an Archos can handle a wide range of audio and video formats it seems perverse that Android users are having to wait for these features.
Honeycomb needs to be able to play just about any video or audio format thrown at it. Google/Honeycomb needs features like this to demonstrate an obvious advantage over other tablets and "Chinese" media players.
The more that a Honeycomb tablet can do, the more successful they will be. To my mind it's just the sort of thing the public and the press would see as a major "plus" factor. Why should one have to buy a number of separate devices when one device could do them all?
I have read that the VLC media player is being ported to Android so we can live in hope but it really should have been in Honeycomb as a native feature from day one.
A native way to save and/or print a web page should also have been a "native" feature as well as a screencap feature - at least this last feature is included on the Asus Transformer so there is hope!
I'd need to check but maybe a way around this would be to setup a playlist and play each VOB in sequence? I think, but again I'd need to check, that Moboplayer has the ability for playlists...
Sure, HC should have any number of things. It should've been finished. But it isn't.
Consumers always want things done yesterday. The reality is that software development always lags. Rather than dwelling on the "shouldas", IMO it's more productive to focus on what is, and plan your decisions accordingly.
Lack of MPEG2/AC3 support isn't a matter of power. It's a matter of licensing. Many product decisions are made on business reality (read: $ cost), and not what's technically feasible. Most videos nowaday use MPEG4, and that's where the demand lies. Like it or not, VOB/MPEG2 viewing is a niche need. Those used to the PC's abundance in software will have to recalibrate their expectations for Android.
I dont think its a honeycomb issue. I think there is not a player out there to handle VOBs correctly because there has not been a device to come even close to being able to play the hi-res video files. Xoom can do it. I have said before somewhere, if I have a single VOB such as the Dark Knight, it plays awesome on my Xoom and through HDMI out to my TV.. (streaming no less from my WD 1tb NAS drive). It really works.. to me, its a player issue and nobody has made a player to play multiple VOB files. Id pay $20 or $30 had a player to make all my current ripped dvds work on the xoom.
and to top it off, MPEG4 stinks. I "converted" a VOB using one of the bazillion convertor software programs out there and it shows up on my xoom fine, but looks like crap compared to the VOB
Suggest you try a good converter. There's a reason why the whole computing world is using MPEG4. For a no-brainer converter that can do drag-drop batch processing (so you can do all your vids in one go), try HandBrake with my automated script.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978529
Can I have this convert my existing VOBs? Or do I need to go back to the DVDs and do this?
I tried a convertor and it took about 2 hours.. insane.
The script accept folders as input. Each folder should hold a movie, and should have the VIDEO_TS.IFO file (this contains the stream info), along with the VOBs.
Yes, depending on your system speed, it will take a while. That's why there is batch processing. You drop 5-10 movies onto the script, and let it run overnight.
Speed is set at medium as default. For about 30-50% faster processing, at the cost of about 10% size increase, edit script and change speed to 'veryfast'.
I would recommend arcMedia player, after trying Buzz, MX, Mobo and Rockplayer I can say that arcMedia player handled this (megaupload. com/?d=O7ZMO5GK) video file the best so far.
If you turn off "skipping frames" at Buzz, video is being played with hanging / freezees, although CPU isn't being overloaded.
Other players just don't play ac3 audio properly.
give it a try to understand what I mean.
I have all of my Videos in VOB format also. when I convert these movies to MPEG4 is there a way to save all of the DVD features like subtitles, menus, and extras?
