When in dual mode the phone flicks between 3g and H every second and I can't get phone calls or internet???
Also at times I cannot get on the internet eventhough 3g shows, the arrow upwards lights up but the down arrow doesnt light up to show download, then after a few minutes it seems to work
Anyone any ideas other than a full reflash?
In UK and on JM1 (old version from samsungfirmwares - CSC i9000OXXJG7)
I had same problem yesterday. I was walked back home from work and decided to go on facebook and after check the xda using tapatalk. After 10 minutes I noticed that sgs is switching between H and 3g every second and I can't download any data. After few minutes problem gone, but when I checked battery usage settings I found that cell radio is 50% out of signal and draining battery. No change after night and restart. Now I'm after flash of official jm1 and everything is fine. No battery draining and 0% out of signal. Network o2 uk.

How did you flash back to official jm1
This was happening to me and all I did was turn airplane mode on, then wait a min, then turned it off. It's been fine ever since.

hi all,
i don't use 3g nor the data network so i don't know what my phone would be like if i used them..
but i seem to be having problems with wifi..
1) after i press the 'wifi icon' on quick settings menu on home screen, it won't connect (preset, with WEP and all).
And ONLY if I go to settings-wireless control does it connect to the appropriate wifi network...
2) I use wifi to go on the internet and browse the web or check e-mails and etc.. after i unplug it, turn on wifi, battery goes down to like 95% after 2~3 mins of internet... and maybe down to like 70~65 after 30 mins?
Is this normal? It's not, right???
Actually, I feel that my wifi's gotten worse since I upgraded from R1FA014 (Rogers x10a) to R2BA020 (Generic UK x10i, no root)....
Anyone know how to fix this???
Oh btw, my bluetooth connection is perfect..
I listen to my music on mediascape using mw600 for hours and my battery would only drop like 1~5%...
let me know if anyone has solutions to this
thanks!!
I use my Wi-Fi for about about 3 hours a day, and the battery def drains faster, but not noticeably so. I mean in that time, I'm browsing and checking emails and stuff, but I don't lose more than like 20% of battery in those 3 hours...
my phone did the weirdest thing today lol
after i watched a show it went from 93 to 68 amdthen i turned off the screen for an hour or so and when i turned it back on to listen to music it was at 71!!!
k i wasnt hallucinating from the heat or anything... so wonder why that happened??

That would happen on my old phone a lot...If I played music or video through the loudspeaker, the battery would drop by like 50% in a couple of minutes, but as soon as I turned off the speaker, the battery would jump back up to where it was. On the other hand my old phone was an SE W810 from like 5 years ago, so I'm not sure how relevant that is...
I have to say, since I went from the ...016 to the ...023, although the battery in general is MUCH improved, I thought immediately it was much worse when wifi's on. I just have to remember to either turn off wifi, or plug it in to charge.

yeah.. that's my problem...
right now i have it running 18hrs with 50% battery left ..
but as soon as i do anything with wifi, it just goes down like there's no bottom...
also i hate having to keep going to setting - wifi setting to get it to connect to my wifi..
i click the icon on the quick menu but it doesn't connect to the actual wifi, it will only reconnect after i turn it off and on if i go to the wifi setting ughhhhh
I've noticed its worse at times running wifi.. Right now it's 430pm and wifi has been on since 9am. So 7 1/2 hours with... 46% charge remaining.

As long as I leave mine set to sleep when screen is off I have minimal drain with the 20 update on x10a. I see well over 1d usage regularly. (Almost never see 2d though)
I also leave GPS on fulltime since it seems to make 0 difference unless it's called for by a program.
So when push email is enabled (for my exchange work email only) my battery drains 10% every hour, even if i don't touch the phone it drains 10% Is this normal?
Overnight i lost 60% of the battery. It was 100% when i went to bed and 60% when i work up about 7 hours later. 8 emails were received during this time.
Looking at my screen, the 3G icon in the notification bar is constanlty changing between a 3G and H and the arrows are lighting up all the time. Advanced task killer shows no other active apps as well.
I have recently flashed to JM5 and have only had that problem since comming to JM5. I have tried the different tricks for restting the battery stats and calabrating the battery, turing on plane mode, but nothing really works. I'm in Australia, will probably flash back to the stock firmware if i can't fix this soon. I can't get a full day out of the phone at the moment.
Any thoughts?
Does anyone else using push have the same issue?
i have my email sync ever 1 hour
have all features turned on
GPS, BT, WiFi, 3G, etc
each battery pack last me long enough to only swap 1 battery every AM, and every PM
so i need to battery pack a day minimum
but i have 4 packs to cover me
1 on the phone, 1 in my jeans pocket, 1 charging at home, 1 ready to be swapped, as usually the 1 inside the phone is nearly depleted by the time AM/PM comes and goes
so basically i carry 2 batteries in my jeans all the time
only because i want to use it until the very last drop of juice is out of the battery.
it makes your battery last longer (training your battery)
else with just 3 battery pack is more than enough to cover a full day 24hr
Hey mate, I have a feeling this is a JM5 related issue.
I'm using JM2 with push enabled for both my work and personal email, and when I stay at my girlfriend's place I don't get to charge my phone, however battery life only goes down about 5% overnight.
One thing I would suggest is that when you go to sleep you switch over to 2G mode (in mobile network settings, change from GSM/WCDMA to GSM Only,) as that is the only thing I do which I think would be saving a little battery life. If that doesn't help you, then I'd suggest maybe changing from JM5 to JM2? Out of all the firmware I've tried JM2 has been the most stable for me.
if i go into conservative mode
no wifi, no 3g, no bt, no gps
then a single battery last very very very long i can stretch it to 2 full days, if i only turn on the feature i need when i need it, then turn it off right away when i don't need it.
but it's a drag... i rather swap battery packs
and have 3G + WiFi + GPS + push messages/calendar/contacts sync + Fring 24/7 without having to worry

Where did you buy extra batteries?
I have the same problem after I installed a new app or an update and I just can't figure out what is causing it. My phone is dead if I don't charge it overnight. Android OS used 43% of the battery last night. I too noticed the H flashing on and off a lot so I think my phone is not going to sleep properly. I have a ton of widgets installed so this makes it harder to single out the culprit.
I'll just deal with it till froyo comes around.

the very first day the phone was released
i knew it was necessary ahead of time as i'm a heavy user, even for when i was using my HTC phone
I have both GMail push and Exchang push in the working hours. And at the end of the day, I typically have about 60% battery left including two hours of pod cast playback during commute.
If your phone is in a weak signal area a lot, it will use more battery as it tried very hard to maintain a connection.

uncheck the green button on the APN settings screen
you have to configure another profile that doesn't use the same address that the 3G uses
What is push email and how do I disable it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well i have sorted out my issues. Turns out i had my APN configured wrong.
I had MMS and Internet setup in the same APN. I setup two seperate APNs, one for Internet and one for MMS and the battery life went back to normal. I also was not use PAP authentication when i should have been.

that seems to have worked! thanks a lot.
So for the past week and a half my G2 battery started draining super fast and it seems that the cell standby is the problem.
If I reboot the phone and have it on for 10mins cell standby time will show time on being 20mins. How is it searching for a signal an extra 50% of the time when it hasn't been on?
Also it will show that I have been without a signal for 50% of the time the phone has been on when I've never lost signal at all.
So the point of this thread is to see if I have a defective device so I can get it replaced. If anyone can help me out and post their Cell Standby times and Time Without signal percentages after a reboot and/or after a days use I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that had that problem. I had literally the EXACT same problem you are having, and exchanging my phone for a new one fixed it. My cell standby with that phone was in upwards of 79% and averaged 50% without a signal according to that screen. The new phone sits anywhere from 14-40% cell standby, and although there is definitely something wrong with how the radio on this handles signals, I don't get dropped calls anymore and it spends 0% of the time without a signal.
Another problem I had, and am still having, is that data connections just drop with no warning and I have to either wait forever for it to figure it out (there are no indicators of this status in the task bar, however nothing data wise will load) or put in in and out of airplane mode to reestablish a connection. I know plenty of others who have this issue as well and wonder if you do too.

I did some checking around with other people that have Android phones as well (not just the G2) and they do not have this problem either. The good news is T-Mobile is sending a replacement because this unit is in fact a defect. Thank you Gwanatu for posting.
Guys, can you tell me how to see this cell standby info? I got mine yesterday and the disconnects are starting to irritate me. Behaves identically to my Nexus, up arrow stays for a looong time, up to a min until it starts receiving data.
Still agonizing about replacing my Nexus, so if these disconnects are a G2 "feature" as well, then I'll just go back...
Thanks

Settings>About Phone>Battery Use>Cell Standby.
A T-Mobile rep told me they are using new/different type sim cards for smart phones and that could be a possible issue if you are using an older one. Mine was about 5-6yrs old.
My cell standby is at 58% and time witout a signal is 50%...
Did a quick google search and found the airplane mode trick
1. Plug in phone charger
2. Put phone in Airplane mode
3. Put phone to sleep for a minute
4. Turn off airplane mode
5. Unplug phone
I did this and now my cell standby is at 14% and time without a signal is at 3%
fwiw my cell standby is 21% since last reboot days ago.
I do not have php and it is well past 15 days...airplane trick no longer works...still sitting @ 41% cell standby...don't know what else to do

Does any one think a factory reset and training the OS would help?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
ive noticed the cell standby % being higher than it was on my nexus one. cell standby is typically the highest % item in my battery use list (my nexus was always the damn screen sucking up power). if i click it it shows the % time without a cell signal. for me, its always been 0% whenever i check so im not losing signal ever it seems. my battery life is actually quite awesome with this phone so it doesnt seem to be affecting anything really. maybe it has to due with the fact that this phone's SoC is a smaller fabrication and more efficient? that might make other stuff appear to use more power compared to older phones that had less efficient SoC's. just a thought
I just in stalled Screebl lite app. Basicly keeps the phone from going off. Once installed my cell standy by went from 37% to 12%. Can any one else confirm the same results?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
My cell standy was running at 60+% with no signal running 50%. I did the online chat with Customer Care, and she ended up saying they were going to replace the phone. Funny part is that during the troubleshooting, I pulled the battery for a few minutes, and since then, cell standby has been 39%, with 0 lost signal time. I don't know what that did, but battery life has increased a ton. And a replacement is on the way...may try it for a few days, but this is working fine, so not sure I am going to exchange.
Well I've got this problem with my phone, when I go to sleep it right around 70-60 percent, when wake up its either really really low or discharged, and when i check the battery usage it says something like Android system 95% and some other things.
Maybe its the widgetlocker or my LauncherPro, i'll make a factory reset and test it out.
I've only had mine a few days but so far it's been pretty good on the battery. That said I have it set to 2g only, no widgets running and don't leave the wifi on unless I'm using it. I've noticed that the battery meter is not very accurate, it seems to only drop in 10% jumps although maybe that's something to do with the 2.1 upgrade I did.
I always have 2g, almost never have wifi on, also when i turn on the screen sometimes it says that the SD card has been expectantly removed... That doesn't seem normal...
Edit: Did a Factory Reset and I'm stuck at a Setup FC loop, i'll have to re-flash V_V

No it isn't. Are you online by whole night??
My advice - download TaskKiller and Kill all processes before you go to sleep and let's check next day morning your %.
Ok, got quarx black system rom and the percentage didn't move!
i use quarx and i don't use 3g so my battery lasts 3 days using angry birds and recieving calls and using wifi. I never switch my phone off, so its always on stand by.

To be honest i must have only switched it off twice.
Yeah, you can easily stretch this thing for 3 days (With mild use)
Would also give it 3 days or more using mostly 2G running around and additionally WiFi and FRITZ!App for home usage constantly running.
Also some Angry Birds in between and my new found favorite app Barnacle WiFi for tethering ;-)
Never turning the phone really off and leaving it in StandBy most of the times running the Open European V20A with Firmware 2.1-update1
Hello, I will forward my message to Motorola support here about the issue and hopefully somebody will be able to help. I already did several factory resets with no success and I can't make Motorola support let me send my phone to them to US from Canada for a repair unless I have an american address to send the phone from.
*Message regarding details about the issue*
My wifi, bluetooth and wifi tethering & portable hotspot stopped working completely(NFC still works). Whenever I am trying to turn them on, the switch just always goes back to off from on, although wifi is always present on battery use as if it was on. All of the features stopped working after few days of my phone acting strange. My phone started draining battery from 100% to 0% in like 40 minutes while it was just laying in my pocket, it would sometimes randomly turn off and lose about 50-70% of battery when I would turn it back on. All of that was followed by crazy overheating. After another random turn off at 6% of remaining battery, I charged it up and turned it on and wifi, BT and hotspot didn't work at all after that. Mobile internet still works fine and battery is fine now. I tried doing factory reset twice but it didn't do anything. Also it all happened when I went on vacation to Ukraine and started using Lifecell operator (I was using it before during vacations in Ukraine and it was fine, but it was first time using Moto X Pure Edition with it). I hope you can help me with my problem.
