Hi All (especially mods)
Now that we got the new HD2 Android Development General forum, can someone please clarify the difference between Android Development and Android Development General? What topics should be posted in the one and not in the other, or should maybe the Android Development subforum be renamed to Android ROM Development?
THere are no Android "ROMs" yet...not until they can be flashed to NAND. They call them "builds'.
I thought it would be quite obvious...in this forum, only threads for actual builds (or "ROMs") should be in here...all other threads should be in general.
the problem is no1 goes to the other side...
i posted a qns but no1 even viewed the thread!!

I believe the title for other forum should be "android general" where people can talk about general things related to android but specific to hd2..e.g. What games work on hd2 and things like that...and this one should be dedicated to android development where p people can talk about new developments and troubleshooting etc.
Just my 2 cents!

Moved you're thread over to the "general" section so the develoupment section is less cluttered
Related
This section is Android Development, If you do feel the need to post here PLEASE keep it on development! New Builds and Such are NOT always released upon your personal request!
Most of your Questions Can be answered HERE at the HD2 Linux/Android Q&A Thread, just reading the first few pages may answer your question!
OR
HERE at the [REF] ★★★The Definitve Guide To Android On HTC HD2 ★★★ thread.
ALL Android Builds should be Considered BETA, meaning that there will be Glitches/Freezes/GSOD's/Hoolahooping/etc.
Respect this new Forum space and keep it clean guys!
Since there isn't a seperate sub-forum for Q&A for Android on HD2 here is the only place to ask questions.
Wanna be moderators better stay out

Well thats why theres some threads linked just a few lines up. Thats where questions need to be posted. Just trying to keep the Dev section clean.
OP,
thank you, I've seen alot of threads with questions that have already been answered, or problems that everybody all ready knows.

You are meaning well, but there is ONLY the dev section for Android on HD2. It's bound to have people asking questions since there is no other place in the forum to do so.

Which isint always a bad thing, but when there are threads asking the same question everyday such as "Problem with 3G Darkstone", "Problem with 3G DanFroyo" it does get a little cluttered. Thing is many of the answers are waiting for the asker in the Q&A thread or in the ROM thread it self.
mskip can always take the kick/ban/smash hammer and clean up the mess I guess

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA way to go with the troll on a useless thread taking up space, dont discourage questions people just encourage the right questions
i agree over 46 pages of threads and only like 7 builds
Literally, this thread is not belong here, it has nothing to do with Android Development.
I love how internet white knights like OP think they are saving the forum from n00bs and trolls with threads like this. In reality, threads like this clutter it up equally.
They should just lock down this forum altogether from new threads, force everything to be posted in the general forum. Then promote the actual developer posts to this one and allow replies. It'd be a lot less work for the mods than having to move a billion questions every day.

buzz your the smartess person in the world right now , i think this will answer all our problems
Anyone else feel its time for a forum shuffle now we have Android NAND, I think we should have a seperate section for Android NAND ROM dev & Android apps.
current:
HD2 General
HD2 Q&A
HD2 Accessories
HD2 ROM Development
HD2 Themes and Apps
HD2 Android General Discussion
HD2 Android Q&A
HD2 Android Development
Suggested NEW:
HD2 General - anything goes
HD2 Accessories
HD2 Windows Mobile ROM Dev (6+7)
HD2 Windows Q&A
HD2 Android Dev (NAND)
HD2 Android Dev (SD)
HD2 Android Q&A
HD2 Windows Themes and Apps
HD2 Android Themes and APPs
Just a suggestion, do not turn this into a flame thread please.
yes, that would be better.
My honest opinion:
1. There is no need for a seperate HD2 Android Apps forum
Why? Because there's no such thing as a Android App specifically for HD2.
2. There is no need to split the Android section into a separate SD and NAND section
The new labeling rules for threads in that section make it easy to distinguish between NAND and SD stuff.
3. If you're having trouble finding stuff, improve your searching skills
Not flaming here. Proper search queries will get you whatever you might possibly be looking for, not only here but in other places on the internet as well. Don't just use the forum's built-in search, use google too.
On the topic of searching, it's also considered good practice to search before creating a new thread. This is the 5th or so thread on the subject of creating new sections/subforums that I've seen in the past day. Having multiple threads on the exact same subject is one of the things that makes information difficult to find in the first place.
Well, considering that hell has, indeed, froze over with an iphone forum on XDA, anything goes.

no need for a separate forum. people still can't seem to keep android related crap in the android sections we already have.....
what good is another one going to do?
Honest question here.
Is it me or is the general section a complete mess now.
All of the old dev threads were moved here a while ago, and it has way cluttered everything up. I just saw a post for the new MIUI. Got a little excited, but made sure I read carefully. Nope, for NS, not NS4G. I hope the wrong person doesn't download that because it is just floating out here in the General vs in the proper NS dev forum.
There are 10 pinned topics. Seems that maybe they could be consolidated to less. I personally find it to be an eyesore. And it seems to be taking up valuable space .
Again, these are my opinions. I was kinda just hoping to get a general consensus here.
Agreed completely. ROM threads need to be moved to the proper ROM sections, not kept as "info" threads in the general section. And the stickies need to be consolidated/cleaned.

I said this ages ago... It would work great and wouldn't be a disgusting mess that it is now.

Just recently joined the ns community and yeah the general and dev section is a mess so confusing.

Hey guys, I'm trying to sell my 1946 Victorian Rancher, 5 bedrooms and 5 baths, is there where I post?
unfortunately the mods here care more about clinging to some imagined ideals than creating a place that's helpful for users. these forums are the most whacked of any phone i've owned.

Definitely doing it right
Stock roms should be in Dev section regardless....they are in other phone sections
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
IMO all roms (including stock, that should be pinned) need to be in the Dev section. It is a mess to need to find the threads for MIUI, pete's bugless beast and other roms in the general section.
stock ROMs are in Dev section
actual XDA home brew ROMs for NS4G / i9020 are in their respective Dev section
only the INFO links to off sites ROMs are in General
Just an innocent question.
The three threads already here should be in the "Android Development" forum as they are about Android kernels.
This Forum seems redundant, or at very least lacking unique purpose.
I suggest that what's here be rolled into N7 Android Development, so that both readers and posters aren't confused about what belongs where. If not, the mods who created this forum ought to make clear -- in a sticky post -- the differentiation between what belongs in "Original Development" as opposed to "Android Development"
(.... unless someone knows something I don't, and there's a plan to port WebOS or Symbian to the N7 )
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/ - here is the announcement on the portal!!
The dev section will be full up with rom after rom after rom... Most roms will only have small differences between them... I think this is a good move from the mods... Although, it can get a bit confusing, and we now have to check another place...
Anyway, I suggest you try to get this moved to q+a, as it isn't "original development"...

@OP: Is this thread needed?
I some what agree with the OP. Only because this is a nexus device. So wouldn't almost 95% of all development for a nexus device "original development"? I could see this for the Samsung Touchwiz or HTC Sense device threads, because alot of those roms are just .zip hack jobs.
I concur with OP on this forum... It is basically just another dev forum, except now instead of 1, I need to watch 2 forums. Not really a big deal, just more of an irritance. Seems like the same thing could be accomplished by a regularly updated Sticky topic in regular Development that tracked all notable software for the Nexus 7 without needing a superfluous forum.
Maybe the android dev thread could be in the Original android dev thread? Like on android central.
I kinda like how you can sorta find what your looking for... but it seems quite confusing also at least for a while .. watching two forums now .. ugh

Well, that defines the first three threads in this forum, all about slightly-derivative kernels, yet are here because the devs think they're original. So I'm not the only one who hasn't read the split rationale.
What this particular split represents is a choice of two forums based on a totally subjective criteria -- whether it's "original enough". Will there be a litmus test -- like what percent of AOSP has to be replaced -- before something is considered "original"? And how does that split really help people find what they want in terms of features, maturity, etc.
I agree that splitting up a crowded dev forum is a good thing to do, but believe that doing it based on "level of originality" is a recipe for confusion and needless police-work for mods. Why not consider something more straightforward and easier to categorize? One possible alternative could be
ROMs
Kernels (and basebands where appropriate)
Root/booting
HOWTOS and requests for help (both from devs and users)
That would make it easier for devs, mods and users.
Yeah, I find this setup a bit confusing too, honestly.

I'm lovin that idea. If were gonna have mountains of dev stuff, the more organized, the better.
Firstly, you don't start a thread in a Dev section to ask a question, ever.
Secondly, the decision to add 'Original Development' sections to devices that have or are expected to have very active development was taken by the forum Admins, not the Forum-Specific Moderators.
So you would be far better off posing the question to them, either in this section or even in this thread.
Beyond that, given how new the Nexus 7 is, it's extremely premature to conclude that the Original Development section will be a waste of space.

Done.
So what is the difference between the Android development vs original android development forums that are hear on xda?
Not much, both sections are full of threads with a bunch of questions and answers and off topic chit chat. The moderators don't do **** around here.
But to answer your question, Original development is supposed to be for developers who create their own code while android development is for people who take code from others and release it.
