[Q] "Voice calls" in Battery use - Vibrant General

I have 61% of my battery life going to Voice calls; which application is this? what do i need to do to disable or atleast decrease the amount of energy devoted to voice calls.
Thanks

Dude, voice calls means calls you've made or received. When your phone is active, 61% of your battery usage is sure to talking on the phone.

Yeah, Try talking less....
unless you don't talk much, then do some research on the apps that require permissions to use voice calls.

The other side can't hear my voice occasionally

Hi all,
My wife and I have been using Galaxy S for about 2 weeks (just switched from 3GS) and even I don't do a lot of voice call (about 30 minutes in the pass 2 weeks, but my wife voice call a lot), we both encountered several times of voice call problem, I can hear from the other side, but she/he can't hear me, re-dialing can't be solve, need to reboot the phone to recover that.
My firmware is JF7 and I use TasKiller with Auto kill when screen is off, just added the browser and Gmail to the ignore list, not sure if this may related.
Any clues on this? Anyone have the same experience? Thanks.
Have you tried disabling the autokiller completely? Does the problem still exist?

That's what I'm thinking so I will disable auto kill for my wife's Galaxy and i have already been disabled today.
However, just want to know if there is any known issue -- perhaps if there is any of the process which is explicitly can't kill at anytime? Cus sometimes I use the TasKiller widget to kill all tasks the signal bar will gone and display as the signal is disabled (sometimes not) but it will get back the signal after a moment, say 30 seconds. So I think there is some tasks related to this but I'm not sure which one.

Google Voice and Nexus S

I've used Google Voice with my Mytouch 4G and battery consumption was alright...i've checked usage today with my Nexus S and it shows Google Voice as 24%! Almost more than my display (25%). Anyone else experience this?
pretty sure gvoice has a refresh interval setting
My battery has been going for 20 hours + and here is the breakdown of my batter use (for some reason my google voice isn't even listed, and I used it a bunch of times today to text). I'm using the stock Nexus S google voice... haven't updated.
Display 29%
Cell Standby 26% (I'm at work, getting very spotty reception in the building.. same with verizon)
Android System 13%
Wi-Fi 9% (Wi-fi is connected all day at work and home)
Angry Birds 5%
Microbes Live Wallpaper 4%
Android OS 4%
Phone Idle 3%
Browser 3%
Market 2%
Dialer 2%
battery is at 26% still after 20+ hours

6 hours since a reboot while on battery here right now. Display is 44%, Google Voice is 5%. Do you make your calls with Google Voice?

Not really a refresh interval setting. I'm looking at it right now, in the settings you can "synchronize inbox" or not. I think when you don't synchronize, you only get stuff with a manual refresh...no intervals like in a lot of apps.
I've not had Google Voice show up in my battery status yet.

I had this happen to me also. It was showing Google Voice was keeping the phone awake and was the largest % of everything running on my phone. I uninstalled and reinstalled GV and so far it has not come back. But it has only been a day and a half. So we will see. I posted in the GV app support forum on Google asking them to fix it also.
i can't uninstall google voice on the S. Only the updates. i never use it for calls. i receive sms on it throughout the day (less than 20) but that's it. There really is no interval settings every since its all push now. Using it the same way i am on the MT4G.
I'm going to uninstall updates and retry.

Set GV to "do not use GV to make any calls". You should be fine then.
Yeah, I just checked again on mine. 9 hours 45 mins uptime, GV was 3% of battery use. The fine details show 29 mins of keep awake. Not really bad, but I certainly wasn't in the app that long, I wonder why it needed to keep the phone awake that long.
Not really an issue on my phone, in my opinion, with that kind of usage. I'll have to look at my other Android and see if it has similar behavior.
I uninstalled updates and reinstalled them. I did a wipe of my phone this morning just for the heck of it and it seems fine now. The dialer though is now spiking at 17% . Hmmmmm

battery tip,

Here is a battery tip
Disable Data on ur phone, If ur not surfing the web (turn on data when u need it )
Calls and Text still go thru
Hold down power and the menu will come up then click on deactivate network
OR
This also can be done in extended controls Or Quick Settings
MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE !
so far i got
14h 44m unpluged and i have 46% Left on Axura 2.2.5.9 ( i knoe 2.2.6 is out i just find 2.2.5.9 better)
Wow. You're a genius! Haha. This has been known for awhile due to obvious reasons. In fact there are apps that will turn your data off/on whenever your screen is sleeping/awake.

i knoe but do u really need data when u make a call ?
No, just turn it off manually. Those automatic apps are pretty pointless imo. You don't use data every time the screen is on, they just use more battery by constantly switching and giving the user no freedom.

dunno about anyone else but when I push send to make a call my data icon turns off and disappears until I hang up.
I don't think GSM supports simultaneous data and voice.
I think powering off the phone when not making calls will save even more battery.
Seriously, I use my phone for a lot of things that require background data. Seems silly to me to turn off something critical for me using my phone just to save some battery.
so far on nero 5 i havent even reconditioned ( im going to do it anyways later) , but its given me over 16 hours of battery, and thats all i need, i just need 10 hours max, from the time i wake up to the time i go to sleep, if it can give me that im good.

Yup, I will be one the phone while looking up information on the browser.
Hey if u deactivate ur phone it will save your battery life.
Seriously though I am using juice defender on my evo and it basically turns data off while ur screen is off. It has worked pretty well. It was off the charger from 730am yesterday till 11pm last night and I still had 55 percent. Of course I worked all day and my phone saw very little use yesterday.

How to perm stop incoming and out going texts

OK, here is the issue that I am facing. I just dropped my text messaging feature on my thunderbolt and the wife's Galaxy phone. Though we are being sent an X2 as a replacement for the poor excuse of a phone that is the Galaxy. Any way as far as my phone is concerned at this time. I would like to know if there is a way to stop all incoming and out going text's. I have told my friends that I don't have a package any more. And yet they do not listen. So I have to nip this in the rear before I get a massive bill. And the same will go for the wife when her phone comes in on Wednesday.
Some info on my Thunderbolt. It is rooted, and am running DAS BAMF ginger Remix v2.1 Any help will be appreciated. Thank you
i dont think there is anyway to stop incoming texts as once they leave the other phone they are considered in the network and if you have a lame plan that charges for incoming and outgoing texts then you might be out of luck. but as far as not using outgoing texts you could either remove / freeze the messaging app or, what might be more practical is using an app to password protect the messaging app so that you become much more conscious of when you are using it.
http://www.android-password.com/
Also Root Call Blocker is an SMS firewall aswell
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051274
From something awesome
Call your carrier and ask to put the block texting feature on all your lines on your account.
It's disgusting that carriers charge for incoming text messages. It's not like it actually costs them any more for the service. It's just piggybacks off the phone signal.
As stated above the carrier can block all txt I called Verizon and had them do it. Make sure to record the call and time/date you called to block incase there is an "accident" and they don't block them

Nexus S 4G missing incoming calls!

I have a NS4G, and I seem to be missing a lot of incoming calls. The phone doesn't ring/vibrate at all, and shows no indication of a call or a missed call. The only way I know somebody tried to call is I end up with voicemails, or people tell me that they tried calling and didn't get through.
This seems to happen even when I have a decent signal and when I can make outgoing calls just fine and even send/receive text messages. I don't think it's simply a coverage issue, because the phone is never really searching for a signal.
This has happened for certain on CM7 and Deck. I'm not sure about the stock ROM. In fact, I'm thinking of reverting back to stock just to test. If it does happen on stock, then I'm wondering if it's just something physically bad with the phone.
I have also updated my profile and PRL.
Has anybody else experienced anything similar? I don't seem to drop calls or have sporadic signal strength or anything like that.
Yes, i've noticed the same thing. Do you have a google voice integrated account? I'm wondering if that might be the common factor.
I've had to go and make sure that the GV app logs missed calls in case this happens.

Good point, I haven't noticed this since I updated the radio and to 2.3.5 stock, so it might have been fixed. I'll keep an eye out if it continues.
I am on the new radio. In fact, I seem to have the problem on both radios.
I am on Google Voice, by the way, and I have my cell number forward to my GV number for missed calls.
The odd thing is I don't seem to always get a missed-call notification; only one for voicemail. Then, in logging on to my GV account in the browser, it doesn't show a missed call. However, when it is working properly, and I dial my cell from a different phone, if I ignore it then I DO get a missed-call notification.
One other possible factor is I'm using an Airave at home, which is where I've noticed the problem most of the time. I'm not positive if I have experienced it outside of the home. I'll have to pay better attention.

I'm thinking it probably is GV too, but I wouldn't want to give up my SMS'ing from chrome extension.
You can turn it off so it doesn't take over SMS if you want and just lets you use the stock app all the time.
I don't have GV using SMS right now. Perhaps I'll disable the forwarding temporarily to see if that solves it.

If your on the new radio and using an airave you may miss calls if not connected to wifi. Im having that problem on the new radio. Ill have full bars but if i call my phone it goes straight to voicemail with no notification at all.

It happens when I'm on wifi too, unfortunately.
I was about to just disable GV, but then realized the NS4G doesn't get the regular Sprint Visual Voicemail app! Now what do I do??

You can use google voice for only voicemail. I have that setup and it works great. it even transcribes the voicemails to text
Unfortunately, I'm missing some calls using that setup. :-(
tmobile nexus s with gv deactivated
I have a T-Mobile nexus s on 2.3.4 stock, I'm missing a lot of calls and so is my wife, I've deactivated TV but it didn't change anything
Wondering if anybody else out there is encountering this! Trying to figure out whether or not it's a hardware issue.
I have ns4g and a use GV and when somebody calls my number, GV rings my nexus and my other phone with verizon, so I can say that the problem is not GV, most of the times only rings my other phone and the nexus nothing, the problem is the phone with a very weak radios, wifi/3g, and the poor service of sprint and is getting worst and worst.
Im having same problem on T-Mobile Nexus S but only when I'm on 3G .

I've had this happen to me on the Stock rom, and Deck, and I don't use GV at all for anything. Happens when the phone is sleeping usually, if it's lit up, the call won't get missed. I've really not spent the time to research it as I don't use the phone much anyway.
I also noticed problems with incoming and outgoing texts being either delayed or not sent at all. I rigged up a little test.
I scheduled a text message to be sent to my phone every minute with the current time in the message. Then I would just keep an eye/ear out on my phone while it sat on my desk. For the majority of the time, I would get the alert every minute, but sometimes there would be nothing for five or more minutes. After this outage, it seemed like all of the incoming messages would be delivered at once.
During that outage, though, it seemed like that was when the phone calls had trouble getting through. I guess it makes sense that there would be a connection between the two.
I had the same problem. I even had people tell me that they got a recording saying the call couldn't be completed. I was even testing the other day and no calls I made to the phone were connection, going straight to voice mail.
I decided to disable google voice and my issues went away, as well as all the delayed SMS and failed sending SMS problems I was having.
