I'm located in NYC and I been turning on the 4G on and off all weekend in different areas (Bronx, Brooklyn, now Long Island City (in Queens)) and I have a 4G connection. Did a speedtest.net test (app in marketplace) and below are my results...
1st Test -
Down: 2.93 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
2nd Test -
Down: 1.55 Mbps
Up: .86 Mbps
3rd Test -
Down: 1.78 Mbps
Up: .96 Mbps
All other NYCers test your 4G availability and report back.
They are testing in the NYC area
About time, doesn't effect me though, lol
Too bad you don't get the full 3Mbps (cap) yet.
I am down on 27th street and got nada...
i'm at 38th and 5th and not picking up a 4g signal.
Down on 28th and Park Ave. and nothing yet. Just scanning...
i'm in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn and don't pick up a network.
Nothing in bensonhurst
Nothing in Financial district...
nothing in bensonhurst brooklyn :-(
Nothing in Jackson Heights / East Elmhurst
nothing in Midwood Brooklyn
I'm in Center City Philadelphia and the record for me so far is 4.9mb/s. I am normally in the 3.8-4.2 area so far. At work outside of Philadelphia I'm only getting 2.2
im on 34 st and 5th ave no 4g here
Also in Jackson Hts. (which incidentally is not too far from LIC where the OP described 4g goodness) and nothing here as of now.
Hey guys
Good news, I happened to be around 59th St and Madison Av and I picked a full 4G from Sprint, however it kept dropping off. I guess they were testing the area. I was working around there for 2 hrs and kept getting the 4G available in this area. I connected for like 30 Secs but then it dropped

Isn't nyc slated for the end of the year? How come you picked up a usable 4g signal anyway?

route 7 runs past my street
on my street i dont have any but on route 7 i have signal its weird
In Clarendon and Courthouse neighborhoods of Arlington I get about 2mbps...
Not particularly spectacular, but the high speeds and faster phone makes it way faster than my iPhone 3G.
Virginia has 4G before Colorado? What is wrong with this picture.............
I live in herndon and I get 1 to2 bars averaging 2+ mbps not spectacular but faster then ATT.

The signal strength is really just your strength to the tower, not your connection to the internet, just FYI I have had higher speeds with 1-2 bars than with a full signal. Anyway there are some spots in Houston, TX near where I work that I can get ~8-10Mbps down on, but I usually average about half that. Here are some pics, also btw a download test is a bit more accurate than those "speed tests" they can lie to you sometimes.

Yup. Northern VA, Richmond, Hampton Roads >>>> Colorado . We don't have any 4G here in Hampton Roads that I know of yet (no Evo til Monday), but there is a new Clearwire antenna/tower near my girlfriends house. I hope there are many more of those to come and soon.
I want them to put one in in Springfield. That's where my office is and 4G would be awesome!

There's definitely 4G at Franconia Springfield Metro Station in Virginia...and at the Telegraph Road Gate to Fort Belvoir...

Apparently there are two antennas live in downtown Denver and others aren't live but have been spotted (including on the Sprint call center in the tech center) so its coming here too very shortly.

That's good to hear. I wish Sprint would give us a real roadmap of their 4G rollout. There's no point in hiding it when people know the towers are there and are getting 4G signals.

I have been able to get WiMAX in Manassas on 234 near the Barnes and Noble. Also, just up the road in Centreville at 66 & 28. Good thing too because in both or those areas the 3G service is terrible. This is one main reason holding me back from upgrading to the Evo LTE or the Galaxy SIII since I will no longer have 4G.
Lately there have been a lot of people reporting that they have 4g in areas not listed in sprints 4g coverage map. So i want all of you people who do get 4g signal to put what city and state you get 4g in, along with the average speed you get, that way all someone could stumble across this thread see the list and say, "oh man theres 4g there! yay!"
So let me start
I get 3 bars of 4g signal in Anaheim, CA around the knotts berry farm area.
And then ill take yours guys info and put here
4g Coverage
Anaheim, CA (5 down/2.5 up)
San Jose, CA (5 down/2.5 up)
Nampa/Boise, ID (Full speed at sprint store, 2.5 down / 1 up everywhere else)
Lexington, NC (5 down/2.5 up)
Richmond, VA (5 down/2 up)
San Jose, ca full bars 5/2.5
richmond, va
5/2
I get 4G in Nampa/Boise, ID. I get 4G speeds when I'm in the sprint store, other than that, I get 4G speeds that are half the speed of 3G speeds, and the 3G speeds are getting pretty damn close to being dial up speed around here. It really is quite ****ty.
How are you guys getting above 1mbps on upload? I thought Sprint/Clear had capped the upload at 1mbps.

I have no idea about the speeds. I was driving around the whole city(san jose, ca) with my applefanboy friend and i wanted to show off the phone and when he turned the 4g on it got signal. We opened the speedtester and bammm he stop talking about apple stuff.
I thought san jose was on the list for cities coming soon, but this was a fast launch unless is only testing phase.
Lexington,nc 5/2.5
They launched 4G here in Syracuse, NY almost a month ago.
I can't test the speed right now because I live right in the middle of a gap in the 4G coverage, but when out in areas with coverage I was getting speeds just a little faster than 3G in the same area.
Coverage here is horrible, even in the better 4G spots shown on the map I get a poor signal. I've never been able to get over one bar, and that one bar usually drops fast.
EDIT: Was in a 4G area today with a decent signal and got 1.99 Mbps down, and 0.8 Mbps up.
Nashville, TN and several of the surrounding areas.
First off, stop using the speedtest.net app to test speed, it is not accurate! Either use the flash speedtest.net or the HTML testmy.net if you want an accurate reading.
Second.
Denver - Broomfield around Interlocken and at Invesco field and a good 5 mile stretch down the highway.
All of downtown Seattle has excellent 4G
Tacoma, WA has great 4G
Bremerton, WA and Silverdale, WA has great 4G
I get 4G on the Northeast Corridor (Amtrak from NYC to Philly) from Elizabeth to Rahway, NJ.

LOL, I saw that there was 4G during a Rockies game a month ago. My 3G stopped working, (I think the network was overtaxed during the game), and I happened to try 4G and was able to continue using data. Great speed too. Never got around to testing it though...
Also, Tri-Cities (Pasco, WA) has 4G and its official too.
Winston Salem, NC 4./1
Greensboro, NC 3.5/1
High Point, NC 4/1.5
King of Prussia, PA - 3/1.5
Philadelphia, PA - 4/1.7
Where in Richmond are you getting 5 down? I can only get about 3 down max downtown and in the Fan.
I got pretty decent coverage in Chicago.

Anyone getting "advertised" HSPDA speeds? At home I keep myself on WiFi so I really only use my phone in the parking lot at work (not allowed to bring it in the building).
I have good signal strength and work nights, so all my use is very much off-peak. I ran the speedtest.net app tonight and after a few tries got it to correctly recognize my GPS location and give me a selection of close severs. I can't say I'm too impressed with the results
FYI: Despite the "1700 miles" reported on the IMG the server was ~30mi away per the server selection screen in their app.

So why do I have "H" near my signal bars?! I also live in Washington DC!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
idk why are phones say "h" i am nowhere near the 4g network, for some reason it never shows anything else other then "h" lol, i think its stupid that it shows the "h" when ur not in the 4g area at all.
I live in central San Diego and work in Northern San Diego and I never saw 4G speeds. I can be glad when I see 10% of the time 3G speeds over 1 Mbps. Very disappointed so far with the largest 4G network. Where is it hiding? I am embarrassed to tell anybody about 4G on my phone when their AT&T 3G is much faster. Luckily I still can return my phone.
Yea, the H doesn't mean anything. There are programs you can download from market such as mobile signal widget that show what network you're connected to.
I live in Seattle and get pretty good 4g speeds for the most part. Ironically, I couldn't get any 4g connection right outside t-mobiles headquarters in Bellevue, WA. Epic fail if you ask me
I live in Richmond va which has 4g but I never see those speeds. I usually get around .30mb to .60mb. But I have been having trouble with the tower next to my house.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I strongly recommend the Signal Strength Widget - shows G/E/3G/UMTS/H etc and is a much better gauge than the taskbar icon. Free from the market.
First of all 4G refers to HSPA+ and not HSDPA which for Tmo is 3G.
So, the reason you all see mostly "H" coz it's either HSDPA (3G) or HSPA+ (4G) if your area has it. Same thing is on Nexus One, it shows "H" but it operates on HSDPA/HSUPA and not HSPA+
What about the speeds, YES, I AM F... DISAPPOINTED! In downtown Atlanta, with full and the tower in my face bars I do not get more than 2 Megs (occasionally). Mostly I get 1.5 Mbs/s
Geez, my MT3G was getting 2.4 Megs constantly on 3G
Weird thing is that it feels kinda limited at 1.5 Mbit most of the time. Speedtest scales quick to 1.5 Mbit and then just stays almost still at this point.

Well, It displays UMTS in Network type. But most of the new 3G/4G is part of UMTS, so it's not clear for me if I have HSPA+
So my question is....Does the phone shows UMTS and HSPA or it's just one type (UMTS) which include HSPA+
Those of you that are sure that get 4G, what's your network type in Setting/About Phone/Network ??
That's what frustrates me, at this point I have doubts that my phone runs on HPSA+ at all. Downtown Atlanta has coverage for HSPA+ protocol but for some reason I am not in

Yep, I have seen over 8mbps d/l at times on my speed tests in north Austin. However, over half the time I'm on Edge which is annoying when obviously HSPA+ exists here, but I can't even get 3G most of the time. When you're on HSPA+ it can fly, obviously it's finding it that can be the problem.
On the other note, I'd almost swear I saw three icons in the first day our two I had the phone: E, G, and H. I've only seen E & H in the last week, so maybe I imagined it. If I see it again I'll be sure to grab a screen shot.

I live on the south side of Kansas City and at my house I pull between 3 and 5.5 Meg down pretty consistently.
At my dentist's office today I pulled between 2 and 3.5 on several attempts.
My upload speeds have been consistently between 850k and 1.5 Meg.
I'm looking forward to testing at my buddies house. We were able to obtain dl's over 8 last time I was there messing with his Evo.

+1. Sprinkle some of that 4G over Northern San Diego/La Jolla too. UCSD needs some 4G lovin (;
Guys, check out the Map Viewer app for an unofficial coverage map. Works great!
I found this great Android app '4G,CDMA,GSM & WiFi Map Viewer' on AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.sensorly.viewer
Shifted from my Evo using XDA app.
Western Chicago Suburbs here (Higgins corridor and north of Elgin on Fox River).
I drove around last weekend and monitored the 4G.
I'm mostly seeing 3-5 M upload and .5-1.5 M uploads (early Saturday morning)
Closer to noon I saw rates drop to 1-3 M uploads. I was driving in some pretty out of the way places and saw fairly good 4G coverage.
I was on I290 the other day and got one hit at 12 Mega (!). Just saw it once
and have not been able to re-create it.
My guess is the closer to Chicago you get, the higher rates you'll get.
Anybody have an idea if Sprint is reducing bandwidth when their network gets busy?
I've got the sensorly app, one of the better ones.
I'm hoping "Open Signal Maps" gets their act together because it is actually
trying to locate the towers on a central map.
Somehow I've managed to buy a house right in the middle of a group of towers
so that I only get 1 bar of 4G upstairs (3G only downstairs). Once I get on the road
I get good 4G coverage (2-4 bars)
4G speeds in shawnee ks suck but they are better than the 3 G ones lol
I usually see speeds between 6-8meg up in Cleveland. I use the Chicago server to test with.
