My phone keeps on randomly rebooting. Is anyone having the same problem?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I am experiencing this problem too.
It rebooted once when I was using the Camera (Youtube HD Video mode)
Once When Trying to open Gallery.
And once while just sitting here on my desk at work.
I want to love this phone so bad! I really like it so far though, and the keyboard issue is def. not a problem for me, and I think it's probably a design flaw rather than a manufacturing "defect" considering there are no springs. It is very hard to recreate the hinge problem while holding it naturally, including at a 45 degree angle in bed.
I also have had a few reboots and also media server force closes while running other apps. Never had these issues with my N1. Luckily I still have it. I'll give it a few more days and probably end up returning this G2 and going back to the N1.

I have been waiting for a good QWERTY phone with a fast CPU and a WVGA, passed on the nexus one and kept my G1. After running CM6 on my G1 (usable but sloooow) there is no going back for me after using the G2.
I sure hope this is something fixable in a firmware update
Does it reboot all the way to the white htc screen or the grey tmo g2 screen? Mine does it to the tmo screen and seems to only happen when the phone has been sitting for awhile and I pass through an area with no reception and when I hit reception again is when it happens. Almost like its turning itself off but stays on enough to look for signal and then turns back on. I only say this because on my drive I know the spots where I lose service and the phone does the reboot in those spots. Anyone else?

Yea I had this happen today when roaming in nw ohio I think it may have started after taking pics of my niece. I also have a problem with the memory card it says it mounted read only and none of my pics or anything show up in the gallery.
The incredible used to randomly reboot. I believe that was due to when there was low signal. It was fixed with an ota.

It goes to the G2 logo screen.
I have also had two occurrences of it being stuck at that screen and the power button not responding to long press or anything, only solution was to remove battery.

That would make a lot of sense, I'm at work right now and my signal is very weak here, goes in and out all the time.
What about others who are experiencing this problem?
Also, I am using a Class 6 A-Data 8gb microsd partitioned for ext3/swap/fat (not the included card), and so far each time it has rebooted the USB cable was plugged into a PC (for charging only, no debug or mass storage)
I wonder if any of this matches up with others who are having issues?
Mines always happened not plugged in and has never gotten stuck.

g2 reboot and mulitple force closes
i am getting the reboot issue also, it seems to be random when i am opening an app or going in to basically anything. also i am getting multiple force closes in basically all apps. i did a master reset and going to reload all apps and such and see if that fixes anything.
Could be something you have installed too I remember some people having this problem when nexus first came out and they built a list and narrowed it down

There's a thread on Tmo forums about this issue, the guy fixed it by transferring his number to the new sim card that came with the phone. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.
I updated my sim and haven't had any reboots yet
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
For what its worth, my N1 reboots occasionally, randomly when I may be doing something. Happening ever since I got it. Maybe sone kind of exception happening in Android?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I have transferred my sim also and am still having this problem. It was after going through a no signal zone, which sucks because I am in hotels and places where I have no signal all the time.

Thanks for this tidbit. I called Tech Support and had my phone number moved to the SIM that came with the phone. Probably a long-shot, but what the hell...
Well, after 2 hours on a fresh charge, I sat my phone down for 15 minutes. When I picked it up it was dead (black screen). Had to pull the battery.
Seemed to be a weird fluke. Did have another reboot, though it felt Android related versus hardware.
-oldsk00lz
So it rebooted on me this morning in a spot with perfect reception. I was trying to open the xda app but it wasn't opening...almost like I didn't have any data. Fishy fishy..
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Mine actually rebooted twice on me, both at random times.
1st occurence - I was listening to pandora, skipped a song while the loading circle was going on, I tried to go back to the home screen and it did take me there but than rebooted all of a sudden - It went straight to the G2 gray screen with the T-mo logo
2nd occurence - again I was listening to iheartradio app, trying to switch to a different but it rebooted back to the t-mobile gray screen ----- i think iheartradio is not tailored for android 2.2 yet, so i thought it could be the culprit.. since it only supports upto 2.1 in the market.
but yea nothing else as of now... hopefully it wont happen again.
This happened to me for the first time today. I was on the web, pressed the home button and scrolled thru the screens to get to my widget and it froze on me and rebooted to the t-mo g2 launch screen.. it actually stayed there for a good 2 mins so I pulled the battery and rebooted after and it was fine.. is this an on going problem that'll be fixed soon? i hope?
I am running CM7 nightlies on my G2, a few days out dated because I have been insanely busy lately... But today in class my phone heated up insanely bad. Sizzled my finger on the metal back plate. I immediately ripped the battery out and let it cool. I think the battery bloated a little bit.
When I put it back in after cooling, all seems normal. The battery started out at 85% and drained to 44% during this. All I can think is that I charged it on the way home to top it off from about 50 to 85% battery, and then topped off a little more, bout ten minutes while at home. Got back to class and then it happened a few minutes later.
Also, I used SetCPU....BUT not overclocking, I had it stock speed, on demand governor, and screen off profile to 245mhz.
What could cause this? I called tmobile and they wanna swap out the phone itself because the battery is not currently bloated so it must be device related.
I am scared to let them swap it out, because I don't wanna revert my phone back to stock, and then have to root the new one. Are ALL G2's rootable? I don't want to risk getting a new one that can't be cracked

That makes me feel better, if I have to replace.
They were going to call me in 20 minutes after I started charging it during the initial call, but they called my wife's Vibrant which never rang, I just got a voice mail notification They left message, and I have no way of calling that particular rep back in technical without going through the entire process over again But, it's still charging, went from about 35%-80% and it's not hot at all. I'm just very confused how this is an isolated thing.
I'm about to be gone from home for 5 weeks, and need my phone, Worst timing ever for this

Ah I see... anyways just tell the new rep, tell that you already called another rep and was about to give you a replacement but something happen or something... it will make the process faster. when will you leave? T-mobile can send you the replacement phone if you pay 20$ it will get to your house in 1-3 days rather than the normal 3-7 days

I'm just wary to change the entire phone out and keep the part that scares me into the new one. If I have a problem, I'll call them. It seems to have been just that once. I'll be leaving in about a week probably, and phone is vital. so I hope I get this figured out.
Do NAND backups swap to new phones? Like just NAND this one how it is, and stick it onto my replacement? Or does it backup things specific to that exact phone?

Once you get your new replacement you have to reroot/S-off your phone again and flash clockwork. If you have any backups in your sd card just flash your backup and you will have the same stuff you had on your old phone.

Either the battery itself is fried, or some SOFTWARE you're running is responsible. Swapping out the phone itself is pointless. Try a WIPE and see if the problem doesn't come back. If it does, replace the BATTERY.
I didn't read if yo ugot it fixed, but check your battery status... liek what's been using that. I had that one time and like my email app for example used a **** load... I reflashed it and started it from new and it's fixed now.
exactly what is the point of overclocking on the G2?
I can tell why youd use SetCPU on the G1 but what is the point of doing it on the G2?
I really have failed to understand the purpose.

Yes, except that sometimes these hacks can cause problems, so before concluding that the hardware is defective, it is important to return the software to a more natural state and see if the problem goes away. If the problem is present with the hacks and not when without, then it is reasonable to conclude that there is a correlation between the problem and the hack.

For the record, tmobile concluded that it's hardware, not me *can't exactly say I have it fully rooted/modded* and the only reason I called them was that my wife used to work for verizon and it was a known issue that a certain battery style/make/whatever was known to have this exact issue. So she told me to call and ask if it was some known problem that I could tell them my serial to identify if my battery falls under those conditions. They said since it wasn't still bloated by the time I called them, it must be the phone. I talked them out of sending me a replacement... that I'll see if it comes back and immediately call them lol.
I haven't had the issue come back, I think I'm on Nightly 3, and I'm about to flash the latest but I want the battery more charged before I do so. I got like 3x the battery life today than I did the other day.
For whoever asked, I haven't tried MIUI, looks pretty interesting but I'm quite a die hard Cyanogen guy lol. I wish it came to the vibrant

Guys i know this is a repeat problem but i really need an answe for this!
my arc suddenly decides to reboot and then i pick it up and shake it a little hard or tap the back cover or give it some kinda jerk (not hard) it keeps rebooting, then i let it be for a while and try the same tapping or jerking but then it doesnt reboot no matter how hard i hit or tap the back cover.
Do u all think this is a hardware problem ?
The battery is very tightly in its bay
is anyone else having same issues ?
thanks
I had the exact same problem and it has actually seemed to stopped recently. Last week it rebooted about 5 times in one day. This week, one reboot in 7 days. I still haven't found an answer. Just going to wait and monitor.

I noticed this too, happened while I was jogging (using Google's My Tacks), and once when I picked it up quickly. I don't think it's a battery fit issue, i think it may have something to do with the accelorometer or something. But it is very disconcerting - What if it shuts down at night while I'm sleeping, or the moment I put my phone down to go to sleep? Then no alarm in the morning...
I noticed the same issue, most likely, when RAM is running low. Not as often as you guys though. Twice it was with apps involving GPS and maps (my tracks, locus) once with Mort Player, I don't remember the couple other times.
Yes, it does require reboot, I notice that;
when
3G + GPS use together
OR
wifi + bluetooth use together
ARC has a lot of RAM, unlikely low RAM issues (which happen to X10 mini).
Again, it is mostly likely due to battery usage issues, when you feel your phone hot or over warm, most likely you need a clean restart.
James
Mine does this too. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, because as it reboots, I can shake it again and it reboots again. Since it hasn't booted up yet, it can't be a accelerometer issue. I think it's just bad hardware design or crappy manufacturing.
I have to say, I didn't expect something this bad from SE. This is ridiculous.
Hi guys!
I have the same problem, i'm turn on crazy, when i shake the phone, this reboot... Any fix for this?
Sorry for my english, i'm spanish.
Clean connectors. I'm sure it will work.
Do you all OC your phones ? Ive noticed a great deal of heat generation when my wifi, or 3g and GPS are on together. i wonder if perhaps its close to the edge so to speak and the extra current being pulled or heat just pushed it over the edge ?
I don't think you guys are having over heating issues. I can play youtube on 3g in direct sunlight for hours without reboot happen. I would clean your connectors. Clean the cache and if your having ram issues try supercharge script. Other than this I would say hardware issue. Try securing the battery down with your fingers and attempt to knock it into reboot.
Good luck...

Interesting maby your sd card has bad files after update or flash. Try formatting your sd card and see what happens.

I have the same problem on my arc and arc s running stock ICS and use to have the same problem on GB back when my arc was new but was fixed after it's first ever update so I believe it to just be the firmware .
Sent from my XT910 using xda app-developers app
I would suggest holding the top and bottom of the phone and then flexing it in opposite directions. If it reboots then it's got the same issue as my girlfriends Arc (which I am responsible for updating )
Check the attached picture and you will see how I solved it (by reading other peoples reports on the same issue when it was new).
Bottom line, it's a bad back casing design which allows the battery to jump just a tiny bit loose and power cycle the phone in some conditions.
edit: Just wanted to let you know I am using standard small sized IKEA filt stickers which are supposed to be underneath furniture feet
My experience with my S4A has been amazingly flawless up until yesterday, when it started experiencing one of the issues that killed my experience with the HTC One- random freezes. And what's strange about it is that they are the same type of freezes that my One experienced, only when browsing the web or using an internet based app like Pulse. It has happened 3 times since yesterday and is so bad that I've had to pull the battery to even get it to reboot. Which brings me to one of my suspicions...
The only thing that has changed between me getting the phone set up originally and when the freezes began was the fact that I started swapping batteries instead of charging the phone. Now, phone batteries nowadays are not just like your average AA cell, it has circuitry in it and NFC stuff... is it possible that a defective battery could be the culprit of my woes? I just put in my original battery and am gonna just wait and see if it happens. The other battery that I've been using is a Samsung OEM battery and not a cheap one. I did root and freeze a bunch of stuff, but nothing exotic, and it was fine until yesterday. I doubt anything I did caused this.
Has anyone else experienced any freezes like this? Help me solve this, I really want to keep this phone (at least until the next latest and greatest comes out). TIA

I Haven't had any issues since I've had the phone, going on 3 weeks. I've been rooted and have froze apps in TB with no problems since geohot gave us root. Also have done some other root mods, and have not experienced any issues.

Man I REALLY hope it's not a hardware issue. I'm so tired of doing the repeated exchange thing. I went through 5 One X's before I found a suitable one, saw that pattern emerging with the One (had 2, both with same issues) and was really hoping the S4A was going to be the answer to my woes. I really love this phone but if it ends up being a hardware thing, I will be incredibly disheartened.

The only thing I know I was doing at the time was watching a YouTube video then pressed pause.
Next thing you know I picked it up hit the power... Nothing. Hit menu... Nothing. The blue LED was just the normal notification indicator, so I knew it hadn't powered off... Resulted in a battery pull.
I also know that I didn't get any messages or new notifications while the screen was off.

I ALWAYS have issues restoring from titanium backup, esp going from one phone to another. My suggestion is to factory reset and start with a clean slate, cas only then can u verify a hardware issue.

I know on the Captivate the Build Number could be found under the battery (can be found there on the S4A as well) and it was the year/month that the phone was built, or so they say. My S4A Build number is 1306 so I'm guessing it was built the beginning of June...

gf has had similar issues; heres what fixed it.
battery pull
factory reset/restore
reboot
battery pull
reboot
root/etc/restore from there. check to make sure you dont have custom CPU voltage/speed mods enabled; i believe this was the initial culprit, though even after resetting them to stock it would still lock up. it only did it 3 times, and usually right after a new mod, but ONLY if CPU values were changed. after the above procedure, she redid all her cpu values but only AFTER all mods were installed, rebooted, and everything works great again.

Same problems no matter which battery. It seems to happen most when I'm using Chrome so I deleted the updates but it's still doing it. It happened while playing a game today which it's never done before. Next step is to freeze Chrome and see if that helps. If not, then I'm gonna factory reset and if that doesn't work, I'm gonna have to exchange it. I really did not want to have to deal with this. With my ridiculous work schedule I don't have the time or the energy. I might just start looking for a different phone because I'm sick of having issues like this.

Same problems no matter which battery. It seems to happen most when I'm using Chrome so I deleted the updates but it's still doing it. I would say if the factory reset does not work than it is the phone itself. I had issues like this in the past with my old infuse and I did a factory reset and it took care of it. Hopefully that will help you out so you can keep your phone. Thanks for replying.

Yeah bud, I really hope a reset works. I might do it tomorrow, I should have enough time. I'm just frustrated that I'm having identical issues with the S4A that I had on my One. I was really hoping to find a phone that just works. I don't think I've had a problem free phone since my Epic 4G Touch. My One X had issues (though my 5th one was near perfect), my iPhone 5 was horrible, both my Ones had problems, and now this. I'm just venting now but I'm seriously tired of it. I've got my eye on that new Sony i1 that's coming out in a couple months, I really love their current design choices and I've never tried a Sony before. Or maybe the next Nexus. Who knows. I just don't want to deal with this crap anymore.

Hi all,
First post so go easy
I've had my N4 for about 18 months. Ever since 4.4.3 (now on 4.4.4 and nothings changed) I think I have been having some probelms.....I also dropped my phone around the time of the update so can't rule out a hardware problem, anyway....
On full charge the phone is, after a random amount of use perhaps around half battery, it drops signal completely....then it start goiing crazy, opening apps clicking on things (sometimes locks up) then shuts it's self off.
Once I turn it back on it says the battery is almost out.....even though before the crash it was at 50%???? (Please see imnage below for "cliff edge" on battery screen shot!)
I have tried safe mode, I have done a factory reset and removed all and any apps except facebook. Other symptoms include forgeting wifi and other account logins!
Also worth noteing I dropped it and smashed the screen, I then had it repaired and voided the warrenty (?) because I needed it same day for work.....dont know if thats connected was working fine for a while after this happened.
I have seen various posts of this forum and other about this kind of thing but no exact answers.....any help would be great 7 months until free new phone
Sudden drop is extreme right....
Re flash factory images for a full wipe, if it doesn't work after that then its probably hardware (sadly), maybe you could get a moto g? I've heard there really good and cheap.

Sounds like something went wrong during the repair or drop and that this is a hardware issue. As suggested, try flashing full stock, but I am pretty sure this is a hardware problem, unfortunately.

Thanks guys .....Ive been doing as much reading as pos.
Some people are saying reather than the drop its maybe just a failed battery? thoughts?
It could definitely be a possibility. If you are up to it, you could purchase a new battery and try to replace it, there is just the risk of damaging something further.

Same things happen to me. I thouhgt the battery is comming to end and orderd new one but I have read that people have some similar problems after updating from 4.4.2
On nexus 5 people also have problem with to fast battery drain. I have similar problems. I lose network, afterwards battery drop from 20-40% -> 0%

Same thing is happening to my wifes NEXUS 4. Hers is a little over a year old now. It was dropped and I replaced the screen a few months ago, but ever since the new updates, her phone has been going CRAZY!
The phone randomly loses signal, battery drains quickly and apps open close (ghost touches) and then it shuts down.
I've cleared the cache, reset to factory defaults and even run in safe mode and nothing. The phone is useless now, she maybe gets 2 hours of normal use out of it before it goes completely nuts again.
One of us should roll back to 4.2.2. and report the result

Facing similar issues. Have posted it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/fast-battery-discharge-t2799931/post53790262?nocache=1
Any solutions?
I am waiting for a new battery. Try rollback to 4.2.2.
ITs same on my phone after an 4.4.3 update teh N4 gone rogue before the update it was working just fine I just did factory reset got back to 4.2.1 android and its doing the same
Just to keep you up to speed...I suspect it may be the battery....or perhaps power management issue/conflict??
Trick is if I keep my battery charge above 60-65% it's fine......get below that and the trouble start.....weird. hvaing said that seems to drain faster than normal also. My hope are pinned on battery solution once Rajnus trys it.
Although not looking foward to taking phone apart to replace it
Today after the first symptom I rebooted phone and after reboot my battery was at 14%. It looks like to me that we have constant drain but system some how is not registering it properly. I will restart after every 10%
Edit: 85% ->reboot -> 57%

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from this issues as well. I replaced my screen and digitizer about 3 months ago and never had issues. Last week I updated from 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 (and 4.4.4 shortly after) and started having the same issues where there would be ghost touches on the screen once I got to around 70% battery, loss of radio/signal, and when I would restart the phone, I would lose majority of the battery charge. I tried flashing stock back on the phone and the problem still is present.

Just to repeat that is exactly what is happening to me word for word.
