[Q] X2 and 32GB microSD? - XPERIA X2 General

Since the 32 GB is available to buy (for me over the internet only) I would like to know if there is anyone who has tested its compatibility with Xperia X2.
(I am aware that specifications state that max memory card is 16, same thing with P1i as at the time of release maximum available was four, was certified for four only but works with 8GB no problem with that)

The SDHC specs are about cards starting from 4 to 32 gigabyte, so if anything can read a 16 GB card can also read a 32 one.

Memory
- Phone memory 110MB*
- microSD™ / microSDHC™ (up to 16GB)
so no go for 32GB sd card

Te 32GB uSD weren't available when the manual of the X2 was printed, and its spec finalized.
So, as always happen, the manufacturer can't guarantee for a card that simply doesn't exist.
That said the sdhc specifications aren't jokes, so they must fulfilled by both the phone and the card producers.
So if the 32GB cards aren't workink on X2 it's just becouse a bug and not because the manual says 16GB.

Sorry but my question aimed at a simple hands-on experience.
I am aware that the specs say 16 GB max because 32 wasn't available at the time, but as I mentioned above that didn't bother my P1i working with a card twice the size in the specs.
I just wanted to know for sure, because a hundred euros for 32 GB is by no means an amount to see gone with the wind. By the time I will choose another phone that is certified for 32 the price for that memory will probably decrease by half.
In other words:
Has anyone put a 32 GB card into X2 and saw it working?
Thank you, mates.

The p1 works w/o any problem with 16GB m2 cards, I don't thing that size was mentioned on its specs.

The X1 works for sure with the 32 GB cards, but seem that no one has really tried a 32GB card on the X2.

YES it works!
Wow, soooooooo much crap talk about 1 simple question! Here is the simple answer:
I have one, have it even posted here in the forum and YES it works perfectly!
Make sure you buy it from a "reliable" source! I would never buy it from ebay! I got it from Verizon as they have a great online special, as I also stated in my post before!
So get one and enjoy!

thank you all, hat off for the simple ;-) answers!

4 gig mini SD cards.

These are to be introduced this month.
OK - they will come out with a 'recent spec' premium, but the are aiming at summer for the 8 gig.
Has anyone already got a 'pre launch' 4 gig working or know if they will be ok in the wirard?
Or for that matter, do you know a maximum capacity the wizard would be able to handle?
Cheers
I have been thinking the same thing myself. I have a 2GB card and that works sweet in my Qtek 9100. Some of the other devices that take SD cards have had some problems with the 4GB SD cards but some of the lower speed ones have worked except the camera does not seem to write to the cards. So i expect the wizard to be the same although the card may work better if formatted to FAT32. I expect the 4 GB minisd cards to be released at around the £150 mark and will come down after a few months. My advise will be to wait as the early ones will prob have teething problems (dont buy ultra fast one as prob wont work!) and it will be cheaper in a couple of months
I got my card from mobymemory.co.uk excellent card with no probs.
Do you have a link to provided for 4 gb mini SD??
Thanks
Damn! I just bought my 1GB one the other day Oh well... I guess this will do me for now, and will buy a 4GB later on in the year if I need to... And yeah, a link would be awesome, thanks
Where are you getting this information from?
I was sure that the limit for mini sd is 2gb.

It seems anything accepting them should work with up to 32 gig
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1141997055.html
Many other sites have been saying for ages that 4gig would ship Q1, leaving 3 weeks to comply!
Got pissed off waiting and suffering "your phone is running low on storage errors" so just bought a 2 gig.
The price has fallen so much that I paid under 60% of the sixty UK pounds they were wanting eight weeks ago.
Welcome to the 2gb club wizardragon! I know I am getting frustrated with the 4gb issue. I have emailed mobymemory twice and had no response concerning the release date of the 4gb minisd card. I seriously doubt they will produce a 8gb version as all new phone models are changing to microsd = sucks.
If a 4gb card is released i may keep my wizard as that would give me a total of 7gb memory, 4+2+1 that would be awesome!
wow 4 gig and than 8 gig mini sd!!?? w0ot we're going to beat SE and with there pro stick duo >.>. darn just ordered a 2 gig mini sd last night. well who cares! this is great news. thank you.
i guess i can sell my video ipod than. im using it less and less these days. with my kjam and samsung d600 i dont think im going to be needing it any more.
The mini SD format seems to be OK for up to 32 gig, although i doubt they will get that far as I think transflash (micro SD) will be pushed more.
Personally I liked the size of SD - as it was a viable size and its very silmilar pin out to MMC meant there were enough about for some car CD players to take them as media.
There are also car CDs with inputs for memory sticks now too.

What memorycard is to prefer?

Hi all!
What memorycard is to prefer?
I know it is microSD, but there's so many different microSD's out there so how will I know which one to choose? (classes, speed a.s.o.)
If we don't care about memory size (4-8-16GB) what is the very best to use?
Best memory?
Best memory/$?
What memory NOT to use?
I picked up an A-DATA 8gb Class 6 microsd card (US$35) to use once I get the Touch Pro. I haven't used it yet, but I also have the 4gb version (US$15) which works great.

32 gig Micros aren't available yet.
This is a totally personal opinion. You will find that among us professional geeks, we have brand preference.
When It comes to Solid State Media, I always pay a little more the get a SanDisk item from a reputable dealer.
Every Card CF or SD or my MicroSD, has been SanDisk Manufactured and I've never been disappointed.

OK guys, thx for your input!
@JimmyMcGee: Yeah, I too has allways payed a little extra when choosing between some things, in most cases it's clearly that you get what you payed for, I mean, even if you look beyond brand names a.s.o. there often is a difference between the cheap and the more expensive ones.
But my reson for this Q was foremost to clarify the speed and class issue, is someone better then the other, so except brand, what more do I need to consider?
I bought a Scandisk 8gb. Play.com have them for £16.99 with free delivery.
I found this after i ordered the same from mobymemory which was more expensive.
I am also looking for a microSD card for my future friend Raphael.
I want the fastest 8 GB MicroSD card available that can be used in Raphael. €10 more or less, I dont care but I dont want to pay for overkilling the spec.
What MicroSD do you recommend, if not this one that I have found:
SanDisk Mobile Ultra 8GB microSDHC
http://www.i4u.com/full-review-447.html
Would it work fine in a Raphael?
Have anyone used it in an other HTC?
Simple:
Dont buy a memory that don't have "C" logo with class number in it.
If it doesn' have it, there's probably nothing to be proud of.
Currently you can get a decent-prized "class 6" memory with 4 GB or 8 GB capacity.
Class 6 is faster than Class 2 and Class 4 of course.
Cheers,
bought a sandisk 8gb microsd sdhc card .. 7700 mb free
they sell it at mediamarkt for 40€
@corsa2: this is probably the same card it is pretty fast and works fine as these are designed for mobile phones
Just buy a SanDisk. Work out how much memory you are likely to need - get a card with more than you require and MAKE SURE ITS A SANDISK! this will avoid fighting for refunds, hours trying to reformat, burnt dinners cause you are engrossed in the problem, angry women who just don’t understand why you don’t pay them any attention anymore, females who fight back when you loose you temper cause your new "good value" f'n card has failed and you refuse to accept the fact - BUY A SANDISK... I don’t work for SanDisk but they do work for me and will probably work for you…
Just bought a Touch Pro... will update my sig when I've decided which ROM to install...
Rgs,

SanDisk Mobile Ultra 8GB is superb!
Bought this one for my MDA Vario IV (T-Mobile branded HTC Touch Pro) for 40 euro at the Phone House (Netherlands). This class 6 micro SDHC was 10 euro more expensive than a class 4 device, but worth every cent!!
I've used several brands micro SDHC cards, but i'll stick to SanDisk now, maybe more expensive but reliable: no issues at all for about 3 years of use in my PPC's.
I don't have a Touch Pro yet (that will change in around 3-4 days though), but I do have a Sandisk 8 Gb class 4 card, which is very good but unfortunately isn't sold anymore, now there's only class 2 and 6 (which is extremely expensive).
I tested it with H2testw and got the following results:
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 11.4 MByte/s
Reading speed: 16.8 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
I was wondering if anyone with a class 6 card could do the same test?

There are a number of dependable cards out there. Amazon has user feedback on each of their cards which can be useful to help you decide which card is best for you. Which ever card you chose, make sure you format it before you use it. Put the card into a card reader and format it FAT32 on your computer at least once. The ROM should not be a factor in you device reading your card, FORMAT the card...David.
Ok thx for the information
Formating was the first thing I did after trying it in the phone ... but didn't help
I bought the PNY because It's suppose to be a good brand, and never thought it would not work with my phone
Guess I gona have to buy an other one
Thx
I bought a 16gb Toshiba MicroSDHC card yesterday for $50. So far so good--I put it in and it has been working flawlessly. Hope I'm not jinxing myself! lol
IMHO I don't think it really matters but I have always used Sandisk and have been quite happy.....
i use a-data since i find it to be the cheapest. i've used 4 and still use them. no data loss or failure yet. oh and i just ordered another just for my fuze. 8gb ($18 shipped)

Does anyone try a 8 GB microSD on Kaiser? Is it really working? What ROM do you use for this?
I'm using a 6GB microsd card but I've seen plenty of users with an 8GB microsd card on this forum.
It doesn't really matter what ROM you're using, the Kaiser supports microsd HC (high capacity) cards, which allows the usage of cards beyond 2GB (-> 4, 6, 8 and the newest 16 GB).

I've been using a SanDisk 8GB on my Kaiser for almost a year now with no issues. I'm using the stock WWE ROM the device shipped with.
What class are these sandisk cards?
Personally I want to hold out for C6 or C8 cards before upgrading my 6GB C4
AFAIK they're C4 cards. I'm going to wait for C6 or 8 to come out too, the C4s do run a little slow.
I'm using my 8GB card, which I also used in my XDA Orbit (with cooked SDHC drivers), since I've had it. No issues at all.
I don't think I really need 16GB right now, I've still got 2.5GB free on my current 8GB card, but my music collection is expanding, and I think Tomtom Navigator 7's map files are larger too... Maybe soon.
Chris
is patriot a relaiable brand for the micro sd?
is it just me or the picture on the website http://www.mobymemory.com/products/SanDisk/SanDisk-16GB-microSDHC-Memory-Card.asp
looks like its been photoshopped
It definitely looks photoshopped. The number 6 in the 16 is not the same color or size as the number 1 nor is it the same font as the rest of the words. You can also clearly see the square around the 6 showing that the 6 was cut from another image.

16gb support?

I was wondering if anybody knows, does the touch support 16gb mcsd cards? I thought I read somewhere about being able to update the driver on the phone to support higher capacity cards. I saw a 16gb card for $60 on amazon, just wanted to know if I can use it.
yes it can it can hold up to 32 gigs, that was directly from an HTC rep told me that at a training

What phone? I have Sprint Touch and, according to the original user manual (based on old WM v6.0 ROM), the microSD card slot is "SD 2.0 Compatible" which is defined by the SD Card Association to mean the device works with microSD (non HD) up to 2GB, as well as with microSDHC having capacity from 4GB up to and including 32GB.

16 giggers just became available in October, no 32s yet, though I've seen posts in Nokia forums re test results with 32 gig microSDHC. So, they're coming along, but I wouldn't expect them until late 2009, maybe 2010.

HD2 Maximum storage card capacity?

I am still deliberating wether to get the HD2. One thing that worries me is the quite limited storage capacity with the microSD card. As far as I understand the microSD (SDHC) standard only supports up to 32GB capacities. I know 32GB is quite large, but I anticipate my needs will grow.
My question is - will HD2 be able to use the 64Gb, 128GB .... cards that come out probably one year from now.
Thanks for your help
Seeing 32GB cards aren't available yet, and we've been waiting for them for like 2 years, I'm pretty sure you'll have changed your HD2 before 64GB cards are here
But to the question, no idea. That would depend on whether drivers that support the new format extension are made available.
I believe 64GB is here in couple of months. Blackberry rumours are that new devices will come with support for 64GB microsd cards.
http://forums.crackberry.com/f2/32-64gb-micro-sd-cards-275113/
My friend ordered 2 usb sticks 64GB - 22USD each but I haven't seen them yet (I hope he gets them). That tells me that prices are still in freefall.
Sandisk is actually developing 128GB micorsd card: http://www.physorg.com/news143893844.html
I guess the problem is not with the sheer size of the microsd (ok that is important if you have a huge music library or movies or something else that needs to be on your phone all the time), but how fast it is while copying. If you put it in your phone and connect usb, how fast is it in disk mode? 20 MB/s?
HD2 has a microSDHD slot, which supports a maximum capacity of 32GB - or will it be able to use microSDXC cards? Is's probably more than a "firmware" upgrade from SDHC to SDXC.
I agree read and write speed are very important to - has anyone done any tests on the speed of the microSD slot?
20MB/s seems optimistic...
It's microSDHC... which means a maximum of 32GB.
microSDXC cards with more than 32GB will NOT work.

Well, SD to SDHC was a firmware upgrade away for many common controllers. But I've just done a little search and it seems that it might not be the case for SDHC to SDXC indeed.

It obviously depends a lot on the card used, some will take 3MB/s while some will take 20MB/s...
It does seem that it's a bit slower than a usual card reader, around 5MB/s with my class 6 8GB Sandisk card vs ~12 in a good card reader.
does HD2 support micro SDHC 64GB card?
Hi,
Here is a real eBay link to buy 64GB Micro SDHC card.
So we can put availability-problem aside.
Is it written in Micro SDHC specification that the limit is 32GB?
I dont see any 32GB size limit for Micro SDHC.
I would like to buy 64GB Micro SdHC
Can someone please tell me whether HD2 supports 64GB Micro SDHC?
Thanks in advance
Edit: confirmed that 64GB card works and its in use over a couple of years.

Just check in Google and don´t let Yourself be misled by wishful thinking: 32 GB mSD cards were announced by Sandisk in Feb 2009 and still we have to wait for shipping them by expansys or easydevices.co.uk until end of May 2010, maybe June..........
Do You really think an ebay-offer of 64GB is serious ? It is only that You BELIEVE in this offer since You badly want it ! It is like believing in a religion because You HOPE that someone else might tackle with Your problems and hopes. But there is NO such other, because it does not EXIST, as well as 64 GB mSD do not exist and will not exist for the next years.
Nobody will develop them, ´cause there will be no market for them ! When 64 GB + mSD cards can be built at a reasonable prize nobody would buy them ´cause everyone of the possible customers (esp. the people HERE = early adopters = tech freaks) will already have changed their devices 2-3 times to devices with mSDXC-standards (such as HTC HD3, HD4, HD5 .......... )
Don´t BELIEVE and HOPE, just KNOW and be REALISTIC: there will be no 64GB mSD-card .............

I just wanted to look for a bigger card than the stock 16GB, even a 32GB would do, nothing particular about 64GB, nor is looking for higher capacity card any pressing need.
I am least bothered to think so much about manufacturing trouble before looking for a higher capacity card, I dont give a damn about manufacturing trouble if any.
I just searched higher capacity card than 16GB and checked at one which happened to be 64GB.
There is no need to involve big things like hope or belief in something so unimportant or cheap as a SD card.
