4 gig mini SD cards. - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

These are to be introduced this month.
OK - they will come out with a 'recent spec' premium, but the are aiming at summer for the 8 gig.
Has anyone already got a 'pre launch' 4 gig working or know if they will be ok in the wirard?
Or for that matter, do you know a maximum capacity the wizard would be able to handle?
Cheers

I have been thinking the same thing myself. I have a 2GB card and that works sweet in my Qtek 9100. Some of the other devices that take SD cards have had some problems with the 4GB SD cards but some of the lower speed ones have worked except the camera does not seem to write to the cards. So i expect the wizard to be the same although the card may work better if formatted to FAT32. I expect the 4 GB minisd cards to be released at around the £150 mark and will come down after a few months. My advise will be to wait as the early ones will prob have teething problems (dont buy ultra fast one as prob wont work!) and it will be cheaper in a couple of months
I got my card from mobymemory.co.uk excellent card with no probs.

Do you have a link to provided for 4 gb mini SD??
Thanks

Damn! I just bought my 1GB one the other day Oh well... I guess this will do me for now, and will buy a 4GB later on in the year if I need to... And yeah, a link would be awesome, thanks

Where are you getting this information from?
I was sure that the limit for mini sd is 2gb.

It seems anything accepting them should work with up to 32 gig
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1141997055.html
Many other sites have been saying for ages that 4gig would ship Q1, leaving 3 weeks to comply!

Got pissed off waiting and suffering "your phone is running low on storage errors" so just bought a 2 gig.
The price has fallen so much that I paid under 60% of the sixty UK pounds they were wanting eight weeks ago.

Welcome to the 2gb club wizardragon! I know I am getting frustrated with the 4gb issue. I have emailed mobymemory twice and had no response concerning the release date of the 4gb minisd card. I seriously doubt they will produce a 8gb version as all new phone models are changing to microsd = sucks.
If a 4gb card is released i may keep my wizard as that would give me a total of 7gb memory, 4+2+1 that would be awesome!

wow 4 gig and than 8 gig mini sd!!?? w0ot we're going to beat SE and with there pro stick duo >.>. darn just ordered a 2 gig mini sd last night. well who cares! this is great news. thank you.
i guess i can sell my video ipod than. im using it less and less these days. with my kjam and samsung d600 i dont think im going to be needing it any more.

The mini SD format seems to be OK for up to 32 gig, although i doubt they will get that far as I think transflash (micro SD) will be pushed more.
Personally I liked the size of SD - as it was a viable size and its very silmilar pin out to MMC meant there were enough about for some car CD players to take them as media.
There are also car CDs with inputs for memory sticks now too.

Fingers crossed for a 4Gb SD card (low speed ones)

Already 2 weeks into my O2 mini and I'm looking for a 4Gb card. I have a 2Gb card but have already loaded in a Lexipedia (concise Wikipedia), some video files, mp3s, and about 500MB reserved for photos, internet radio recording, offline web pages, and voice + phone call recording. Need more space for my VCD series so I can watch on the train.
Apparently, one store in Australia clearly stated on their website that any 2Gb High Speed cards 133X 150X will not work with the O2 Mini...yes, there are some users on this board who have got 150X cards running fine on their Magician but is not the norm.
Pretty much the Sandisk Ultra II and SanDisk normal SD card of 2G works fine on the Magician. So I'm looking for 4Gb cards that are around 60X or lower.
Checked on ebay and practically everyone's selling the Transcend and/or Adata 150X 4Gb SD cards which I doubt will work on the Magician. So hopefully in the coming months, if not sooner, Sandisk will make a normal 4Gb SD card.
There was a thread on the the accessories section a while back. Basically, if you want a sure bet, try the 4GB AData MMC (the green one, not the pink SD). A user reported that these definitely work. There are a ton selling on eBay as we speak for ~£120 inc p&p.

I second that.
Running a normal Sandisk 2GB without Problems!
Unfortunately all the 4Gb's on ebay seem to be the high capacity 150X ones (pink ones). That's why hopeful that they will release the green 60X ones
The 4GB Sandisk works with the Jam, but it doesn't work correctly with normal readers for the desktop that are out on the market right now. Sure, you can put movies and large files on the 4GB, but try putting a ton of photos and smaller files, such as map data. I found that the Sandisk 4GB version fails after a while, time and time again. My 2 GB Sandisk works flawlessly. Fortunately for me, my retailer off eBay has refunded my payment and I am sending his card back.
Hi gadgetman901,
Very curious as to how you managed to get your hands on a Sandisk 4Gb when there is no info about it on the Sandisk official website. Tried to search on ebay for it but the only 4Gb cards that showed up was an Ultra II that looks exactly like a Sandisk but is not a Sandisk brand.

It was on eBay a few weeks ago. The reseller does not have them listed on eBay right now. I called Sandisk when I first got it, and was having trouble formatting it with my laptop and desktop. They said that it was a counterfeit, but the reseller told me that he got them from Asia where they just were released. Regardless, the 4 GB showed up on my PPC and Desktop as 3.78 GB FAT32; however after copying my files from my 2GB to the 4GB, it pooped out every time. There was something definitely wrong with this card. I got my money back so I am still in the market for a 4 GB. Does the card you listed work with the Jam and Window XP computers??
No I haven't got any 4Gb cards. I would probably agree that the card you bought was counterfeit. Which probably is good news..when Sandisk release their 4Gb card, it should work on our Magicians
gentlemen, the 4GB is for sure a fake, please be carefull when someone offers you such cards. they are at most 512M if you are lucky and the ID on the SD is set for 4GB sundisk etc. this is also true for flash disks (disk on key) where in every market in china you can find 8GB sony - which are actually 128/256. Be carefull.

You won't know unless you checked Sandisk's website and contact them whether this is the real article or not. If not for this forum, I'll probably be buying that one.

Yep... that's the one I bought! I couldn't believe that it is a fake! It looked so real and registered as 3.78 GB. At least this reseller has good customer service. Once I alerted him of this issue, he immediately refunded me, and I sent it back. Based on the forums I have read, I decided to get the Adata 4 GB MMC card. I feel good about this card and will post results.
MMC vs SD
Is MMC generally slower than SD?
I have a 1Gb 60X MMC card that benchmarked at 0.46MB/s on my handheld (without FAT backup, with FAT backup, it is 0.43MB/s) compared to a standard Sandisk 2Gb at 0.64MB/s
Not much difference in speed but precious seconds is important if you use the external card for internet browsing
the reason why they were so quick in refunding you is it is a fake and they probably know!!!
Anyways good that it turned out OK.

2GB mini SD on ebay UK

Wondering what people's thoughts are on this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/High-Speed-2G...593065570QQcategoryZ18871QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It's not a 'big' brand and the price seems very cheap for a 2GB card.
John
After shipping it's about 20-25 quid cheaper than retail and it claims to be a 150x (22meg a second transfers card).
Only had my Wizard a week and took me a few days to actually find 2gb Mini-SD's in stock with a UK retailer.
I ended up with this:
http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=miniSD_2048mb_MOBY_001
However, some of the card readers I have will not read the card via the provided SD adapter - I was warned of this and do have a newish card reader which does, as does the one in my laptop.
Works fine in the Wizard though and tbh speed to me is unimportant considering the speed of the devices processor.
If you get one and have success with it, please drop a note back.
I have seen the Mobymemory one, their price for the 1GB card seems unbeatable pretty much but I'm tempted by this 2GB card as I can get the postage cheaper using a Paypal code as well.
John
I had a Zynet SD card for my XDA2s. It worked beautifully, and continues to work in my digital camera.
I got A 'MyFlash' 2gb 60x mini-sd card off ebay last week. It took like 6 days tops to get here and works great, even in my tempermental in-built SD reader.
How much did you pay for the Myflash one?
Thanks for the feedback on Zynet, tempted to go for this now.
John
Came to about £80 including shipping and insurance
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7589600960&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
I remember reading somewhere that a higher speed SD card will drain the XDA battery faster.
If you're not looking for the fast cards, some reasonable prices here as well:
http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Mini-SD
The 2G Sandisk card isn't actually in stock with them yet though.
John
1G is more than enough 4 me...-_-#

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EEZEVC/104-8849050-7307124?_encoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282
But I don't know if I can wait until May!
I've decided to go for a 1GB card for now, I can always buy another 1GB card so both my HTC devices can benefit from it.
John
4 gig cards are meant to start shipping this month.
OK - i know they will start at an unrealistic premium - but does anyone know if 4 gig (or more that that which is likely to be out by summer) will work in the wizard?
Seems cheap for a 2Gb memory card of any size. I'd recommend mymemory.co.uk for memory cards, and they have a 2Gb Sandisk MicroSD for £54.99.
Seems cheap to me, but sandisk's one of the best makes for memory cards.
i use the moby memory2gb minisd - 80ish quid delivered next day and works well
I think are more cheap at:

I have used them often and they offer a good service (based in the chanel islands). However they have been out of stock of the 2 gig cards for a while now.
They have a facility whereby you give them your email and they will contact you when the cards return to stock.

Incidentally, I have had only one memory card fail on me, and it was the sandisk 32 meg that came with the siemens SL45 as standard.
The SL45 seemed years before its time - it seems crazy to think there were phones with memory cards in 2000 and even now a minority have them.

Will a 4 gig work?

I am buying an MDA in a week or two. I am currently shopping for mini SD cards.
Does the MDA support the 4 gig card or is there a maximum?

There are no manufactured 4gb minisd cards on the market at the moment. Those that are advertised as so are prob a scam so beware. I believe a 4gb card would work with a wizard as 4gb sd cards work with the prophet, but they don't exist - i think manufactures are not going to make one as card formats are changing.
read this there are horror stories of 4gb scams!

Oh ok. Thanks. I just realized I was looking at 4 gig SD cards.
Looks like I'll be getting a 2 gig miniSD card.
Anything I should be looking for before I buy?
Transfer speed?
The 4 gigs were due out 2nd quarter 2006 - but nothying seems to have happened.
The format should be able to go as high as 32 gig and work in the wizard but from the time its taking for the 4 gig - i think the wizard will be as current as babbages box.
I got a 2 gig "sandisk" from a guy with fairly massive feedback on ebay - but it is currently showing itself as "Memorycard5" with something funny happening each time it increments the number, and strangely does not say "sandisk" on it anywhere.
I have been travelling recently - and now I am back think I will email sandisk to check its number.

4 GB Mini SD durability poll

Hello all,
I used a 4 gb mini sd for around 4 months without any serious issues (soft reset fixed everything for me.) Then, out of nowhere, the card just became unreadable. Couldn't access any data from it and I couldn't even reformat it. Completely dead.
So I started poking around about 4gb cards and found (like I probably should have done before I bought the card) that the current mini SD standard stops at 2gb. These "4GB" cards are really 2gb cards that have been hacked and reformatted to 4gb. Now, apparently this works, but drastically shortens the card's shelf life. It is said that most of them die within a few months, if they last that long.
I just wanted to post a poll regarding this issue. Hope this is of interest to everyone.

Well if what you are saying is true, then shouldn't the same apply to SD cards? I had used a 4gb SD card for 2 years in my Magician and Prophet without a problem...I think it was a Transcend.

I think it does apply to standard size SD cards too:
I looked at the Sandisk site and the only 4 gig cards that were being sold were listed as SDHC. Nothing on the official site over 2gb that wasn't high capacity. I was able to track down the Trancend card you were talking about from a reseller (and numerous other ones including Ebay) however, if you go to the official Transcend site you see that there are no standard SD cards in a 4gb size.
This leads me to believe that the info I have been reading regarding this is correct. If the manufacturers are really putting out 4gb cards, why are they not on their official websites?
But the point remains that these 4gb cards (hacked or not) do indeed work in the Trinity (as well as other devices.) It's just for how long that is the question. I just want to find out with what regularity these cards dying so we can judge whether or not it is a worthy risk to buy one and trust our precious data to it.
Matterhorn, I appreciate you relaying your experience with the 4gb standard SD card. Perhaps the hacking and reformatting is more stable in the standard size as compared to the mini version? Hopefully this poll will help us figure it out.

The label on the 4gb SD Transcend looks exactly like the official Transcend color scheme. The card itself is in blue plastic and the label is in vibrant colors with Transcend, 150x, and 4GB written on the label. I believe this is the same one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208086. It also has a serial number stamped on the back. I really don't think it is a fake Transcend.
My Topram 4gb miniSD continues to faithfully work in my Trinity. I don't know anything about this ebay vendor, this link is just for info http://item.express.ebay.com/TOPRAM...320102528838QQihZ011QQtrZexpQQcmdZExpressItem. It came packaged like an authentic card, some others have no professional packaging. Perhaps it will give up one day, if it does I'll report it right away. I know there has been quite a few people stating that their miniSD cards have quit on them, which I'm sure is true, but I can't help but believe that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, meaning that people that have no problems with their cards are less likely to post results.
I've been using a 4gb card in my Trinity for about a month now.
Gave me a few problems with Media player at one stage. The MSME files for the library dissappeared and I couldnt get them deleted to fix the media library problem.
Put the card in my desktop reader and suddenly they appeared again!!
Since then - no probs. Have it well filled up with mixeded media and prog files.

Wouldnt it stand to reason that if they were 2gb cards "hacked" to 4gb they wouldnt have the capability to store 4gb worth of data? What you are inferring is the "Tardis" effect. Bigger on the inside than the outside which to my knowledge is not currently possible. A bit like having a normal sized mini car with 7 MPV seats inside. I think is just a matter of intermittent hardware to hardware clash/incompatibility not a 2gb hack.
Must admit, have suffered from the card corruption syndrome for the first time in my life whilst using the M700 trinity.Talk about heart attack!!!! The thing that makes me think it is a hardware compatability issue is that I have used that same 4gb miniSD in my wizard variants, prophet variants, treo's etc for over 7months no stress. Hence I know the card is good (thanx mobymemory!)
4GB Problems
I bought a no-name 4GB miniSD cheap on ebay. It worked fine initially in my Trinity, but only took a few launches of TomTom to get corrupted - "no maps found" and hundreds of smiley faces in File Explorer. I was always able to reformat and start over, but soon got tired of that. Strangely the same card performed perfectly when used in an I-mate Jam (inside an SD adapter) or when in a card reader on the PC. I got rid of the card and got a Kingston 2GB and have had no problems since.
I just got more TomTom maps and am trying to decide whether to take the plunge again. Anyone got any positive 4GB stories?

I think maybe the poll should be changed to include SDHC cards since that is a variable that is very important on judging the 4gb cards. SDHC cards work but are just not reliable yet in the current roms.

good morning guys.
let me share some information i have about flash memory.
few month ago one big electronic shop in my ciy was offering usb flash disk of sizes up to 16 gb. in very cheap price.
alot of my frinds buy that memory.
after few days alot of them returen to the shop to exchange them becuse the memory damged.
some of them did not have anyproblem untile today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the reason is .
these memory are just 4 gb memeory and haked to be like 16 gb.
so if u try to write one bite over 4 gb you will start write this bite over the first bite of card and you will damge the data on that bite. and maybe the card will not be usable again.
this hake is known to be used on other media before flash memorys.
it was used in some hard disk to foll consumers.
the same story here.
if u have a 4 gb Mini-SD . just try to put more than 2 gb and your data will be gone (bye bye bye). maybe the card will be not usable again .

This theory has been proven to be not true over and over again...search the forums.
hm, hello and from me..
I bought 4 gb minisd Albatron, and after 2 days, the card just stopped. I tryed to format it, but no success. The card just died. After that i read this topic and searched on the albatron site to find some mini sd 4 gb card, and i cant find... after that i exchange the card with 1 gb Kingston and since then - no problems at all.. And i think that this 4 gb minisd cards are really hacked and if you have luck - you may use it maybe 5-6 months.. but i really dont buy 4 gb card, until the manufacturer says that they have one.
Regards,
4Gb Topram mini SD - fine. I've used 2 of these and they have been OK.
2Gb Transcend mini SD - useless. Would corrupt in a few hours no matter what I tried.
1Gb O2 branded mini SD - fine.
I'm still using a generic 4GB card that I bought of EBay and its settling down fine after about 3 months use. although at times, it can be just about noticably slow.
I've had a lot of trouble with the card 'dissappearing' ow and again and the Media Player library going awol. However, the fix's for those problems are well published on other threads.
I purschased a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card hoping it might be a bit faster, th Trinity cant even see it!! So much for SDHC support.

6GB Micros SD Card works?

Hey,
in Germany we get the Kaisers later
But if we get I want a big SD Card.
The 4GB is tested and works
How ist the 6GB Micro SD, in comes in two weeks to the German market and the lowest price is 49 Euro (not much more than the 4GB).
Do you have experience, it works?
Oliver
A User with a HTC Touch said it works with 6GB SDHD Cards.
Have any of who are a proud owner of a Kaiser a 6GB in use or tesed?
Thanks!
Oliver

i work at att
the official word on the tilt, the att locked verision of the kaiser, is that it supports up to a 32gb micro sd card. this comes straight from a htc lead training on the product in atlanta. i would say it would also be true for the unlocked version, sandisk was there and they demoed a 8gb on it, obviously 32 micros dont exsit yet
MicroSDHC 6GB Confirmed working. Recieved mine 2 days ago.
Got mine a few days ago, works fine. Currently 2 gig's free. When loading the card with a Sandisk MobileMate SD+ USB reader on my Vista PC the transfer rates are 8-9 MB/sec. which is pretty fast. My Sandisk UltraII CF Cards transfer at around 4MB/sec.
Not like it should surprise anyone any more, but I just got my Sandisk 6GB MicroSD card from mydigitaldiscount.com and it works like a charm. I loaded it with about 4 GB of music and video...
The card is a Class 4 SDHC card. I still haven't seen an answer to the question of "up to what class of card can the Kaiser handle?" I.e. if eventaully Class 8 cards become available, is it worth the money to step up to it? Cuz if the Kaiser can't handle that speed, its wasting money...Anyone know?

I would imagine all classes are compatible. Even if the Kaiser cannot make use of the C8 speed, if you need to transfer stuff faster, put it in a card reader and transfer using that, at least it will mean it would be quicker to get large amounts of data onto your kaiser.
6Gb Sandisk MicroSDHC works just fine on the Kaiser
I've been using a 6Gb Sandisk MicroSDHC for 2 weeks and it works just fine!

I understand that. Clearly, I realize it would still work. But if I buy a C8 and I only use it at C4 speed, then it's somewhat pointless. Im willing to spend to get the fastest card I can that will still be worthwhile...
So to clarify, the Vario III can take cards like this one without any problems?
EDIT: I risked getting the Moby Memory one, guarenteed next day delivery, even with the postal strikes, should get here Friday.
I can report that my Sandisk 6GB card works perfectly on my Tilt with HTC ROM.
I just received my 6GB SanDisk Micro SDHC card today and it works perfectly!!
Can confirm that the Sandisk (SDSDQ-6144 Class 4) with 6 GB works perfectly on the TyTN II.
But can anyone confirm if the new Sandisk (SDSDQR-8192) with 8 GB will also work ?
This microSD card will be available here in ~1 week.
P.S.
I can further confirm - as I just experimented - that in the imate Ultimate 8150 no card beyond 2 GB is even recognized !
I have no idea if it is a problem with a driver or the hardware limitation of the built-in card reader itself.
Same old Missing card problem, even with 6GB MicroSD
Well, after my 6gb Sandisk from Amazon working perfectly for the last week, I decided to transfer a few movies using the included card reader. Placed my card back in, and no card to be seen. Looked at the regedit fixes from way back using Search, saw settings were exactly what was talked about.Anyhow, looks like after all this time, still no official fix for Hermes missing storage card fix. Also followed advice, to drop the card back into the unit while power on. I do see the card now, however have the classic Storage Card (with a few folders), and now Storage Card2 with most of my files. If anyone has found a more recent,100% fix, wouldn't mind finding it. Can't stand the thought of going through this each time. I suppose the best thing might be to NEVER take out your card and use AS. But sure makes a nice difference, transferring directly from PC to reader. Does anyone see any problem in simply copying all files from Storage Card2 to Storage Card as a solution ? at least until I can find a permenant fix?
Micro SDHC for AT&T Tilt in US
Does the AT&T Tilt support Micro SDHC memory cards? I found some specs say yes and others say no.
