JM6 was released over in the I9000 boards. I have it on my captivate right now. GPS seems better. it was the first thing i checked. Can't speak for any lag issues yet.

These notes are for JM6 with unhelpful's kernel and designgears SRE. If you don't want super rooter simply do not do the last step with the update.zip. If you want stock kernel use the one found in link
here
instead of unhelpful's.
I would recommend using unhelpful's kernel and designgear's hacks.

Steps I took
1. ODIN stock
2. PIT flash
3. Flashed the JM6 PDA, did not touch the modem from their release.
4. Then flashed a captivate kernel on top.
If I stay up any later tonight i'll keep testing, perhaps check quadrant. They didnt' seem to see any gains in that. But I am currently locked on between 4-8 satellites, from my apartment window on the ground floor, and its raining out. On a clear day i used to be lucky to lock 3. Definitely seems to be an improvement.
I'm going to flash the EPIC fix on top of this and see where that gets me.

Nice let us know how it goes

Well,The epic fix seems to put it at about the same. Again, this is quick testing, not driving... just within a few minutes. I've definitely made it up to seeing 10 or 11 since I put on the epic fix... normally I don't get above 5-7... and with the JM6 had seemed to cap out around 9. Doesn't seem to help locking any more though.
If anyone else has any observations feel free to chime in.
BTW, designgears... great work with the superrooter mod. I use it all the time.
Sounds like this might be better than either the JH2 or JH3

Seems to be so far. I really hope so. Now if I'm running JM6, all I can hope is that a samset gets built on it. I do rather like those ROMs

awesome man. Thats the news I wanted to hear. No need for a samset now.
Also, I just went into the service mode to see if playing with gps settings would do anything, good or bad... seems the supl.google.com is already set. And maybe I just havn't spent enough time in those menus, but it seems like there are more options as well.
This rom is pretty good.
Which CSC file did you use? I'm going to try to get this flashed tonight. I want to make sure I'm following you though.
You flashed back to stock JF6 using Odin.
Then you used Odin to flash JM6 and a CSC file (which?) but no modem file. (How do I make sure I'm not flashing a modem?)
Then you flashed unhelpful's kernel on top (is there any way to get/use a stock kernel?)
Sorry for all the questions. This isn't my first time flashing a ROM, but it is my first time flashing seperate parts in ODIN like this so please pardon the ignorance.
edit* I would assume to not flash a modem, I would just leave the modem slot empty, but I just wanted to make sure.
The modem file is separate from the code file.
Reaver117's original thread on flashing JM5 is what I used as a guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734871
I have actually tried a few of the CSC files they posted. They all seem to be the same. I think i've flashed my phone over a dozen times tonight just seeing what works.
EDIT2: I personally like the OXA *Multi CSC* (for France, Germany, Italy, Poland, UK, UK & Ireland) as I don't need to see russian every time i boot my phone until it reads the sim card.

Not if you flash the Captivate kernel after flashing the JM7 ROM... this ROM is still a 2.1 ROM, which we have a Captivate kernel for.

I don't think there is a working SRE for this ROM.. you have to use the basic update.zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754
Luckily, this ROM already enables side-loading, doesn't have AT&T crap etc.
Yeah if you flash the captivate kernel you get around the autorotate issues.
I personally am using the I9000 kernel with autorotate disabled and a JG8 modem file so I can use HSUPA =P - it does make using update.zip packages a fiasco though.

You can flash Captivate kernel to get rid of all the annoying issues.
This is the SRE from JM6
http://www.multiupload.com/8IYQ3VKHR0
i used that it worked perfectly, you need to flash the Captivate kernel to do this since I9000 kernel doesnt allow us to apply updates from recovery.
All international firmwares come with sideloading enabled. AT&T is literally the only company that blocks it =P (that I know of)

I just pulled the regular stock I9000 kernel, pulled it from the JPC root thread, I'm pretty certain they're the same kernel build.
http://www.multiupload.com/GJEZ1OT9NN
You'll have to pull the tar out of there, it's pretty well marked, if you want to compare kernel builds though mine reads:
2.6.29

Sorry for the Noob question (long time Linux guy, but short time Android guy), but...
What CSC is best for the U.S. of A?
and
Are we just flashing the rom and kernel, or should be also flash the modem?
Thanks.
I know there is a Dk 28 version now but I'm still kind of new to the game and want to fully understand everything b4 moving on. I was able to get viper rom dk 17 2.8 installed this wkend after a bunch of mistakes on my part. Everything seems to be working well on this version except for the fact if I go to any web page that requires me to log in. When I click on where I type in my username or password the page will force close. Seems like some sort of security issue. Is there a setting I can change or is this a limitation of DK 17 version. Thanks for your help.
For future reference, this post should go in the Question and Answers section.
That being said, DK17 is an older leak, therefore support for it is going to be minimal. It also wasn't around all that long, so devs didn't spend a huge amount of time on it. The DK28 roms are going to be more stable.
If I were you I would go to this thread : Return to Stock
- Once your phone is back to stock, root it again like you did the first time using the one click.
- Download and install the DK28 modem and pit file using Odin. Should be the same steps you took to install the DK17 modem and pit.
- Then download one of the DK28 roms, i.e. viper, bonsai, quantum. Install those from clockwork.
If you need steps explained a little better than post, but don't do anything you are unsure of, cause you don't want to turn your phone into a paper weight.

Will do. Thanks for your help.
I know there have been multiple threads already devoted to figuring out why EC09 is borking people's sd cards, but I'm going to try a different approach. Rather than just asking for regular comments about this, I'm going to try to encourage answers to follow a set format. Hopefully the answers in this thread will lead to a diagnosis of what's causing the trouble. I'm asking you to answer the following questions to the best of your ability (there's no right or wrong answer here, since I have absolutely no clue why this is happening:
1. Did your sd card go belly up yet?
2. If your sd card did get borked, how long were you running EC09 prior to that?
3. What ROM were you on before flashing EC09?
4. Did you disable voodoo lagfix before you flashed EC09?
5. Were you running stock EC09, Nameless, or TechnoROM (if TechnoROM, did you actually flash the full stock package first)?
6. Did you Odin the recovery listed in the OPs for Nameless and TechnoROM prior to installing either of them (if you flashed one of these ROMs over stock)?
7. What apps did you have installed at the time?
8. Do you remember which apps you had actively running at the time your card borked?
9. Was your sd card almost full when you first flashed EC09?
10. Did it happen after you turned your phone off (when you were powering it back up), or while your phone was still running?
The more answers we get to these questions, the closer we come to finding the problem and possibly a solution!
More refinements to follow, including a poll.

I think my SD card just crapped out...
I had read that people that only flashed the modem weren't having issues, so that's just what i did.
Came from CommRom 2.0 straight to CM7 test build 6, had it on ED01 for a day or so and i decided to go back to Evil Fascination, and running EC01 modem for a day on that.
Then i decided to go back to CM7 test build 7, but decided to flash EC09 modem. Now it's been about 2 days, my phone was fine until about 15 mins ago when it just reboot itself and now it says damaged SD card.
Damn... i should've went back to EF last night like i wanted
I've been running the test build (rfs) for a few days now and my SD card just got wiped today. But it's weird cause it didn't wipe it entirely. The .zip files I've downloaded are still on the root of the card but it erased the download folders and such.

And it is going through a bootloop... I see the Vibrant boot screen, then Galaxy S Gt-i9000 boot screen, and some lady saying "not enough space on partition." Does this loop over and over.
What did I do wrong?
How can I resolve?
Was running deodexed/rooted KB5.
I just went into recovery and I'm disabling voodoo, lets see what that does.
Well with voodoo disabled my phone boots up again.

It should be safe to flash this kernel with voodoo disabled if you're still on stock Froyo 2.2 KB5 deodexed. After flashing this, it'll take like 10 min to do its magic (you'll hear the woman's voice telling you the status).

Hey guys,
Long time lurker here, I flashed back to stock 2.3.6 carrier firmware (telstra in AUS) about 3 days ago because I feared my phone had the infamous USB port error (random charging without charger plugged in and other related issues) and I might have had to return it for warranty.
I got a notification popup while on my home screen (right now 8pm GMT+10) that there is a new update available which will wipe some settings in order to install ICS (215.72MB Update).
Just thought i'd update you all that are in the same boat as I havent seen any information about carriers updating to ICS.
I'll update you and let you's know how I go.
I can't show you a picture becuase i've posted less than 8 posts.
Bit late on the update..
Telstra, and Optus have already rolled out ICS for S2 a few weeks ago..
I run 2 Galaxy S2 phones, on both networks. Both upgrades are so much smoother. Although TW launcher is the same, so just flash a new launcher to suit..
I use alot of features and high power apps and no bugs as yet..
Although I am looking for a telstra DVLP4 insecure kernel to re-root. If anyone could be of assistance?? For a beer, or thanks..

I too am looking for the rooted Kernel. Please let me know if you find one. I flashed the new update from the wanam rom and I must say I am loving the battery life. Watching Fox on the telle from my phone is kinda cool also.
Anyone who wants an 'insecure'/CFRoot LP4 kernel should extract the stock kernel zImage from the rom package, send it to Chainfire & ask him nicely to make a CFRoot kernel.
Doubt you'll see an insecure/root kernel for this build otherwise.

I tried it, and so far so good. One problem was rebooting after I flashed it. Phone says TW failed to launch than rebooted nad no worries mate!

I would if i could. But I decided to upgrade via Kies. And no root acess now.. So no rom package, can't get the zImage..

I upgrade via kies too. But if ypu flash the kernel above you will have root access again!
Does anyone know what the modem after the update is? And if this modem can be used with a GB Rom.
DVLP4 according to Checkfus. Yes. You can flash whatever modem you like. Modems originally supplied with GB stock roms will work with ICS & vice versa. However, different modems tend to work best with particular networks and sometimes even vary a bit with location (variations in equipment/bands used by the same telco in different locations).
You should be able to find a CWM flashable version of the modem via a Google search with XDA appended to your search terms, or, have a look in the AU SGS2 thread. I'm fairly sure this modem has been discussed (and posted/at least links to CWM versions) somewhat recently. If you can't find it, ask someone to post it for you in that thread.

So long as it's a Telstra modem, I'm happy. I see your flag says you're with vodafone..
From Checkfus - Android/GT-I9100T/Australia (Telstra) - GTI9100LKJTEL:
I9100TDVLP4/I9100TTELLP2/I9100TDVLP3/I9100TDVLP4
The third bit is the modem. Yes, I'm with Voda. And ?

I assumed the modems were different for vodafone and telstra even if they use same frequency
What telco I use has nothing to do with anything I looked up the Telstra details with Checkfus, plus I keep an eye on the AU thread so I know it's been discussed. As per the edit to my post above, the modem is actually the 3rd bit in that string. Go back to the AU thread, I'm about to post there.

*ignorant post about not being sure how to root*
EDIT: My original post was asking a bunch of questions for how to root my Telstra specific Ice Cream Sandwhich phone. I have now done this and it was surprisingly easy.
The easiest way is to follow the following guide here (which is already Telstra specific).
However you will want to use the following kernal (pretty much first step). which is for ICS, you can find this filehere.
I was concerned I would lose my Next G speeds, but all is good. Still getting 6000kbps at home!
Cheers
Thanks Great Info
