Very cool. Good work!
Sweet will give this a go!
Great work HE.
Where do you dl?
Anyone find the download location?
OK, call me dumb if you want to, but I HAVE to ask:
- can I decompile even a rom from a hardware manufacter?
If yes, this could mean soon or later getting the hands on drivers... that is the only thing that prevents putting a vanilla google android rom into a phone that is not nexus, and maybe, porting the driver to the newest android version, thus porting it to the phone?
OK, it is too much dreaming to be true!
Such a program would be highly appreciated! There are devices without any support around, such as Toshiba AC100. Having a tool that would simplfy merging and porting process would be great!
Am I the only one who can't seem to find the DL link over on the other site?
It's not free. You have to subscribe to HE's Paypal account at 5$ per month.
This is certainly interesting but I think 5$ a month is very steep for "interesting ".
I strongly suspect that $1 a month or $5 lifetime would earn much more money through volume.

Wow really $5 a month? hmmm...
I could use a little more information if it is going to require a subscription:
Is this for Linux or Windows?
Can the de-compiled ROMS be rebuilt with the Supertool or do I still need to go in and build file?
What is the advantage of using this versus Smali/BakSmali?

I am sure most already know this but HTC are releasing the HTC dream in Oz in a weeks time- not under T-mob (doesn't exist here), hence it is called the Dream and not G1!
Interesting write up here: http://apcmag.com/optus-to-sell-htc...4-per-month-with-500mb-of-data-up-to-182-.htm
the last 2 paragraphs are what made me happy:
"Nor does the Dream include Google’s ‘Cupcake’ update to the open-source OS. This means it still lacks an on-screen QWERTY keyboard (similar to those of the iPhone and BlackBerry Storm) and the turbo-charged WebKit-based browser with find and copy/paste features; nor does it support A2DP or ‘Bluetooth Stereo’.
A HTC spokesman said that the Cupcake update would make its way onto the Dream as an over-the-air update pushed out within the next few weeks, in the same timeframe as it was delivered to T-Mobile G1 users in the US."
so, there is a little hint on cupcake......
Would be interested to see how the IM work using optus firmware hopefully it uses data. I really hate using meebo in android...
Swedish android site swedroid.se published a little snippet from a members communication with HTC about 1.6 for HERO.
Dear HTC customer,
The Hero will not be receiving the Android 1.6 upgrade, it will however get the 2.0 one. Do note however that we do not have a confirmed release date for this upgrade, all I can recommend at the moment is that you keep yourself updated by visiting our website regularly as the latest information will be available to view from there.
Best regards,

If we get 2.0 not to far from now I really won't miss 1.6 either really. Kernel sources + 2.0 in a not so distant future is acceptable if 1.6 is not released. Thoughts?
Really????
I was looking forward to the release of 1.6 for my Hero!
Ah well, roll on Android 2.0, Hopefully this will be very soon.
I wont miss 1.6, i'd rather get 2.0 and skip donut all together.
2.0 gets free google nav software
Hmm - i prefer small incremental updates.
2.0 will be atleast 2(?) months off?
maybe, i think by christmas...wouldn't that be nice
1.6 was a nice to have, but 2.0 looks like it's going to improve quite a few. Lets hope they get it out soon, looks like the Moto Droid is already running 2.0 - released Nov 6th.

Thx for this update. I was in contact with HTC via email recently (about 2 weeks) and at this time they told me they don't know yet if an updated ROM based on 1.6 will be released (and when).
Today I wrote them again regarding 2.0 (before I saw this thread), so I'll keep you up to date here as soon they get back to me ...
...then I waiting Android 2.0
Is good.
This is also confirmed on the HTC Twitter feed.. http://twitter.com/htc
is this going to be for gsm again and no cdma?!
So I stumbled across this and just thought to let you know.
Google released a new ADP (Android Development Phone) called the ADP2. ADP1 was basicly a HTC Dream (aka T-Mobile G1).
The new ADP2 is a HTC sapphire, meaning that its the new development tool.
Since the Sapphire is the new development phone does that mean that we will see a Android 2.0 for it?
I mean developers cant develope apps on an outdated Android platform...
Sry for my english I hope this was useful news...

Anyone knows if 32a is getting 2.x? When will it be released......

And do they know the difference between hero and magic is the camera..
He may have meant the magic 32b, which is not getting an update.
From what I know, Singapore's Magic is 32A... Oh well, hope he's referring to 32Bs...
Can anybody tell what version of sense is this?
http://www.noverca.it/shop-aggiorna-htc-magic-con-sense
This is what has been said: (coming straight from HTC, not from any official channels though, this has been posted on phandroid forums from a HTC rep. This agreement was started between HTC and Rogers)
By mid-year, HTC will issue an upgrade to Android 2.1, including the highly acclaimed HTC Sense experience for the HTC Magic.
However, due to certain limitations on the HTC Dream, the software path for the HTC Dream will be terminated after the next Android 1.5 update. While we regret not being able to offer the same updates to both devices, by bringing this upgrade to the HTC Magic, we are delivering the best solution possible given the situation at hand.
We also want to emphasize that the situation with HTC Dream and HTC Magic devices is true across markets, and is not limited to Canada. While “Google Experience” devices built on the same platform (like the T-Mobile G1) do have different upgrade paths – this is due to the use of a stock Android build, rather than a custom build used on the HTC Dream and HTC Magic.

There's only one version of Sense for HTC Magic. Sense is just the framework, not the telephone firmware. As of now, officially, there's is only Android 1.5 with HTC Sense. The Android 2.1 release will include an updated version of the Sense user interface.
The picture looks like the theme is modified for the network supplier.

Then it's probably 1.5 since 2.1 isn't released yet.
HTC Tattoo To Be Upgraded to Android 2.1
12th March , 2010
HTC have confirmed that the HTC Tattoo will be upgraded to Android 2.1, which is the newest version of the Android operating system.
The current version running on the HTC Tattoo is version 1.6, which to be honest is really quite dated now so the update will be greatly appreciated.
The update to Android 2.1 will bring many benefits to the HTC Tattoo with the first being improved speed, reliability and efficiency across the whole platform. Additionally, you can have five home-screens on Android 2.1 , meaning you can have one for work, play, social networking and so on.
Android 2.1 also adds “Quick contact” functionality, which enables you to easily switch between address and social network contacts.
The HTC Tattoo has a 2.8 inch touch-screen, a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, FM radio and full 3G support. When we reviewed the HTC Tattoo here at 3G we concluded that “If you're hankering after an Android phone, this comes up with the goods for a (relatively) low price.”

"Newest version"? LOL Haven't they heard of FroYo?
Would like to know from where this reporter dude got this information...
Someone on android forums has said they got a reply from HTC saying that the latest update was to prepare for a2.1 update. Don't know how much to read into that though...

This is one of the 'brilliant' bits of journalism that sparked the Frandroid article.
Its all listed and discussed in the other much longer thread here on XDA.
In essence, it was a HTC customer support answer that was posted and discussed here and then ended up on Frandroid. All complete nonsense, as is that article above -- that piece above about Android 2.1 on the Tattoo shows a complete lack of knowledge about the Tattoo, they talk about 2.1 bringing five screens for f sake.
I would post all the links, but can't be bothered. The OP should have read the other three or four threads with the heading Android 2.1 that are right below this one.

The HTC Support person may be getting confused with the Hero update, they do that a lot ;-) as the announcements for the Hero did say it would be a minor ROM update at the begining of June followed by 2.1 later in June.
OR, us Tattoo owners could be in luck!
Somehow I don't think so though :-/
