Doing A Proximity Sensor Experiment Everyone Help - XPERIA X10 General

So theres quite a bunch of people who are having problems with the proximity sensor. It works absolutely fine in the "Test Mode" but it doesn't in call. And yes, I know that it turns of the "Touch" and not the "Screen" I can tell.. I recall that it used to work absolutely fine for me when it was a certain version which I forgot... But I've only used 3 versions which was the original Rogers stock one, R2BA022 and R2BA024 (doesn't work).
___________________________________________________________________
So, if you guys could help me out and put down 3 things.
1) Firmware
2) Work/Doesn't work
3) If you ever replaced your Phonebook.apk or Phone.apk with another one.
EX/ R2BA024, doesn't work, have replaced both APKs
___________________________________________________________________
Sidenote: I have a weird thing where the sensor doesn't work in the in-call screen but it works when you pull the slide out dialer out in the in-call screen.
Update:
It would be nice if anyone with R2BA024 and a working sensor could upload their Phone.apk and Phonebook.apk. Its in the system/app folder
Thanks

1. R2BA026
2. Works
3. I still have Phonebook.apk (but don't use it) and Phone.apk (I do use it).

Lol sorry I meant the system/app folder in the root of phone. If you have Astro (keep pressing the "up" icon and it will bring you to root) you could COPY (not move) those two files to the sdcard and than retrieve those files via usb. Or you can pull them with adb.
Anyways, thanks

little problem

so
sick of the 2.1 contacts app
downloaded the old one
used root explorer to copy the 2.1 apk and odex to the sdcard
pasted the 1.5 in the system/app folder
and... nothing happened, didn't show up under apps
so put the 2.1 back in there, and now that isn't showing up either... did i miss a step?
edit:
i tried adb push and adb install
got install errors with the 1.5 and the 2.1 apks
wtf?
any tips?
thanks!
I've found using Root Explorer to place .apk files back into the /system/app folder won't make them reinstall. I always just push the file there with adb and then restart the phone. That works every time for me.
I would be surprised if the 1.5 app worked in 2.1. I didn't notice a difference between them when I moved to 2.1 a few months ago. What don't you like about it?
having to sync your fb contacts to use photos
and there seems to be a physical memory leak or something because my contacts were at 30mb
restarting didn't seem to work, i will try it again... any other suggestions?
No idea? Phone really sucks without contacts. Guess I could restore a nandroid.
nvm above method worked now will try 1.5

Flash whatever rom you currently using over top without wiping. It should fix any apps removed. And keep all data/homescreens the same.

JI6 via Kies Mini ... can't delete the bloat!

I just got the JI6 update via kies mini, and I rerooted, put clockwork back on the phone, and now i'm trying to delete the bloatware again
the weird thing is, when I use rootexplorer like i did before, i'd delete the .apk and .odex files, nothing happens. When i go back to the homepage and navigate back to the system/app directory, all the ones i deleted reappear!
what's happening?

I had the same problem. For me the files were more hidden. I deleted the ones I found in the directory folder several times and it didn't work. I had to go deep into the files to find the correct folder. I don't remember exactly, but it was something like system/data/data. just search through all of the folders until you find one that is only apk and .odex files and delete the ones you don't want from there.....it worked for me.

Yes, I just did it. Pushed with adb. works fine.

pretty impressive
edit1: i thought i read somewhere that it was multi touch, but this doesnt seem to be
edit2: auto correction seems to have little or no words to correct to.
maybe it would function better with the 2.3 build

I have never tried adb and wouldn't know what to do. Is there another way to get it working. Tried installing normally, using Root Explorer and placing in system/app but I get force closes with these methods.
Edit: So I researched and it seems as though the adb method is pretty much the same as using root explorer (correct me if I'm wrong) and yet I still get force closes. FYI I did try with adb and still no luck...

this version http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...bread-2-3-keyboard-w-working-predictions.html has supposedly fixed the auto correction/word prediction.
I got it to work with predictions. Used adb push with the two files in "system" in the ZIP. Very fast and predictive!
Still can't seem to get it to stop force closing. Perhaps it's the build I'm using, who knows.

Well, almost drag and drop (sorry, I deleted that bit from my comment before posting since I don't really use drag-and-drop, the keyboard is just faster). You have to use Ctrl+C (or right click -> copy if you fancy) from explorer/desktop/where-ever then right click -> paste in droid explorer at the appropriate location.
You'll get a dialog popping up showing you the copy progress (it's pretty quick).

What you could do is create a root/system/app folder in the root folder of your android build on your sd card, place the latinime.apk in that folder, restart and the file should be placed in the system/app folder on your phone. Or you could use ES Explorer and place the latinime.apk in the system/app folder on your phone.

just got an HD2 today so i knew nothing about any of this ( the flashing on top of windows or whatever, I'm pretty experienced in flashin roms for other android phones)....anyways the guy who recommended using Droid Explorer was spot on, it was easy. I don't know why the other dude can't get into system/app :/, but I hate screwing with ADB so that program is sweet! reps!

I'm currently using the HD build as well, and I noticed that I couldn't use the droid multi touch keyboard which is a real bummer cuz I really liked that one. It worked on Motoman's Black and Blue build.
Anyways, I'll try this and see what happens.
edit: nope, doesn't work. It seems that the DesireHD does not have the stock android keyboard, as I didn't have to overwrite any files. Does this make any sense? I really want a keyboard without arrows and that does not have haptic feedback. The newest version of better keyboard removed the option to 1) go without keypad sounds and 2) go without haptic feedback. Really don't feel like paying for another keyboard though, as it just seems silly.

It will just have to be down to the Desire HD devs to add it to their builds during the building process

works great for me, this is what i did.
connect your phone vua usb to your pc. copy LatinIME.apk & libjni_latinime.so from the zip. copy them to the same folder where 'adb.exe' is (android sdk). Open a command prompt (cmd.exe from the start menu > search bar). cd to your android sdk folder, where you put the apk & so files. type the following...
adb push Latinime.apk /system/app
adb push libjni_latinime.so /system/lib/
long press in a text field > select input type > pick android keyboard.

Install your own apps via xRecovery - Collection of xRecovery files

Hi Guys!
Now that finally the devs arrived with some amazing ROMs, I change these ROMs a lot every day. But I experienced some problems because I often do that at work where I don't have adb shell available. So I created an xRecovery zip-file to install Android Terminal Emulator before booting into the ROM the first time.
That gave me the idea to offer you some zip-files with useful (free) applications you perhaps want to have pre-installed on any ROM before booting it.
I also attached two blank zip-files where you can easily add your own apps, perhaps a preferred keyboard in your language or whatever you want to push onto your phone via xRecovery.
If somebody's interested we could turn this into some kind of collection for universally usable xRecovery files.
How to use the blank zip-files:
To use this method, you need to have the app available as an apk-file, of course.
If you have the app already installed on the ROM you're looking to replace, you can just use a root file manager like Root Explorer to copy and paste the apk file from \data\app\ to your SD card.
If you cannot get the apk file, you can request it here or send me a PM and I'll try to prepare the zip-file for you. Don't ask me to do this with paid apps! This whole method is meant to be used with free apps and I will not add or support warez in any form!
Okay, now let's start. As you can see, I attached two blank zip-files: blank_data-app.zip and blank_system-app.zip. Why two of them?
There are basically two locations where you'll want to install your own apk's:
\data\app\ --> contains all non-system-relevant user apps and should be your choice in most cases. If you install here, you can easily uninstall the apps later if you don't need them anymore.
\system\app\ --> contains system-relevant and pre-installed apps such as vending.apk / phonebook.apk / Email.apk / Gmail.apk / Calender.apk / etc.
Only install here if you want to replace one of these apps with a themed one or if you want to force-update market for example! It's not possible to uninstall anything you installed here the usual way! You'll have to use Titanium Backup or another third-party app.
Only overwrite existing apps in this folder if you know what you're doing!
So, just choose where you want to install your app, open (NOT extract!) the corresponding file with a zip-file manager of your choice (I'd recommend 7Zip or WinRAR) and drag the apk-file you want to install into data\app\ (for blank_data-app.zip) or system\app\ (for blank_system-app.zip. pretty obvious, huh? ). Confirm to copy the file there and close the zip file.
That's it. Now you just have to give your zip-file an appropriate name and push it onto your SD card to install it via xRecovery-->install custom zip-->choose custom zip from sdcard.
__________________________________________________
Some comments on the zip-files attached:
- Android_Terminal_Emulator.zip:
This is useful if you installed a new ROM and experience problems like flashing homescreen or no GSM/data connection. In that case, open ATE and type the following:
su (confirm SuperUser rights)
busybox killall servicemanager
Click to collapse
This will restart the phone and hopefully solve your problems. (I know this mini guide seems not to fit here, but perhaps someone reads it before spamming the dev thread with questions that were answered a thousand times )
- JIT_Enabler_v2-zdz.zip:
all KUDOS go to zdzihu. Make sure you visit his thread to always get the latest version of JIT Enabler.
Note that you only need this file on 2.1 ROMs where JIT Enabler isn't pre-enabled! On 2.2+ ROMs JIT is always included.
- New Market V2.2.11.zip:
Make sure to sign into your google account and open market once (accept licence agreement) before you update to the new market. Many people experience problems if they don't do this!
- TitaniumBackup-3.6.7.1.zip:
You can also create this file yourself. If you open TB and tap on Settings-->more... there's an option to create an update.zip
- XDA_app.zip:
Useful for any kind of problems of course

As long as the apps aren't system-relevan, it's as easy as that, yes
For all of you willing to learn more: I'm quite a noob, too, but I'll try to make a tutorial on how to create recovery zip-files as soon as I can.
Won't be today though, because I'll go out to party into my birthday this evening

Is it possible to create one zip to install several apk's?

in deed ..you only have to press twice.. (press one..wait one sec then press again and release...and wait for the terminal to popup) voilà!

hey im having a problem.
I know that you will say "this belong to another thread" but since this way i can trick the thing and install again the system apps like the Package administrator etc, i need to know what to do in mi case with this method:
mi BETA3 was working smooth!
iv been using the BETA3 a long time but some days ago, suddently i couldn't install apps anymore (thouse that are in mi SD or frome the market...not even Applanet...nothing)
The screen shows the "barber shop black and white" bar rolling and rolling and never stop.
Mi USB detection is not working, that means that mi PC is recognazing the phone (it sound like a UYSB is been conected) but never apear the folder of the SD. nto even options of debugging usb etc in the notification bar of the device.
and when i get in Settings> runing aplications, all aplication are in "calculating..." mode. so they say 00 mb. and never stop triying to get the numbers. its so odd.
the other aplication (that came installed with the BETA) works fine.
I have tryed, erasing the firmwares and isntalling them from the beginning and everything worked fine with old firms like 2.0 and 2.1 update1. too!
then i do the root (first z4root, then busybox, then xRecovery) and make xrecovery work. install the beta 3, and again i can't do anything.
i triyed installing the BETA4 but never stop rebooting so i just yield and stick with BETA3.
any idea..plzzz!!! i really don't whon't to use Eclair...it's just so ugly!!
it's not working on mi xRecovery. i put the apps insinde app folder of thwe .zip and put it in a random folder of mi SD, then do >the Recovery > install custom.zip>Choose from SD card>confirm install the selected "blank_data-app.zip".
and it say:
Finding update package.....
opening update package.....
E i asume E means Error!) can't open blablabla/blblabla folder/blank_data-app.zip (bad)
installation Abnorted.
i asume iv done something wrong...!?!?
PS: BTW can somebody sen me the original .apk of FROYO bwecasue i can't find them , to use the system-apps.zip
thanxxx!!!

[HOWTO] Record phone calls

Hi all,
I'm still not allowed to post it on devel forum, so I'll put that one here.
I've managed to have call record button enabled ripping some files from Korean roms and dropping them inside an european one.
I did it on Litenin' rom, but it should work on all other roms.
So, for instructions :
1) Grab the attached zip and unpack it; you'll get 2 folders (app and lib) containing each 2 files.
2) Unpack any available factoryfs.img file, mount it and REPLACE the 2 .apk (Phone.apk and Phone_Util.apk) with the one provided here; they go in app folder in mounted image; the same for the 2 lib files (libaudioflinger.so and libaudiopolicy.so) which go into lib folder of mounted image.
AFAIK that one should be done in linux.
3) repack the image and flash it to phone.
That's all ! on next call, you'll get a RECORD button and your call will be recorded in .amr format; I found that other's part voice is perfect and loud, my voice is somehow lower volume but very usable.
The small caveat is in call settings menu, on my phone it appears in english instead of italian....

Hmmmm... no
For now, at least.
I could post the modified Litenin rom 1.3 (the one I use) so you can flash it on usual ways.
But I can't do it right now, tomorrow it's possible.

Hi all,
I'm still not allowed to post it on devel forum, so I'll put that one here.
3) repack the image and flash it to phone.

apks go into system/app
libs go into system/lib
Nice feature!
Do you have a screenshot of the phone screen with the button and the settings?
Can it be set to always record automatically?
Multi language:

Install CWM
Thanks for the screenshot.
So this mod replaces the "Add call" button with the Record/Stop button. Is this function still accessible somewhere, maybe in the menu?
mhhhh... Today I've seen that when using my bluetooth headset the record button is disabled
I guess this stuff should be hacked a bit more.

Most probably because you flashed the Call Recording apks for KF1, while Litening ROM 1.3 is based on KE8.
Has anyone just copied the libs across and then used third party app (Total Recall for instance) with the standard recording policy?
I may try it later, this was all I needed to get the SGS I recording working properly.
I guess the correct way would be to have the sources of both audio libraries (.so) and apks and rebuild them after patching.
For the apk it's easy to decompile, but we should find the sources of .so, both for stock ones and korean ones, and look for differences.
Once the differences are known and sources available, it should be easy to add some useful features.
BTW, has anybody tried recording with bluetooth headset ? With mine it seems not working, and I'd like to know it it's a general problem or just mine

It should be enough to replace the apks and libs with litening original ones.
Weird problem, indeed... on my phone it works well, even if I haven't tested it very deeply.

Tryed with your update and CWM, and Phone apk crashes on my phone.
That's because I've got litenin 1.3 ? What did you change to make it multilanguage ?
Even just repacking both apks in factoryfs.img does crash. With my grabbed apk is all ok, besides the language.

Works perfect on KF1. Many thanks!
So where does it save the recording?
