[HOWTO] Record phone calls - Galaxy S II General

Hi all,
I'm still not allowed to post it on devel forum, so I'll put that one here.
I've managed to have call record button enabled ripping some files from Korean roms and dropping them inside an european one.
I did it on Litenin' rom, but it should work on all other roms.
So, for instructions :
1) Grab the attached zip and unpack it; you'll get 2 folders (app and lib) containing each 2 files.
2) Unpack any available factoryfs.img file, mount it and REPLACE the 2 .apk (Phone.apk and Phone_Util.apk) with the one provided here; they go in app folder in mounted image; the same for the 2 lib files (libaudioflinger.so and libaudiopolicy.so) which go into lib folder of mounted image.
AFAIK that one should be done in linux.
3) repack the image and flash it to phone.
That's all ! on next call, you'll get a RECORD button and your call will be recorded in .amr format; I found that other's part voice is perfect and loud, my voice is somehow lower volume but very usable.
The small caveat is in call settings menu, on my phone it appears in english instead of italian....
Ciao
Max

sounds great, but....is there a more newbie way of doing it?

Hmmmm... no
For now, at least.
I could post the modified Litenin rom 1.3 (the one I use) so you can flash it on usual ways.
But I can't do it right now, tomorrow it's possible.

Nice feature!
Do you have a screenshot of the phone screen with the button and the settings?
Can it be set to always record automatically?

Thanks for the screenshot.
So this mod replaces the "Add call" button with the Record/Stop button. Is this function still accessible somewhere, maybe in the menu?

mhhhh... Today I've seen that when using my bluetooth headset the record button is disabled
I guess this stuff should be hacked a bit more.

Most probably because you flashed the Call Recording apks for KF1, while Litening ROM 1.3 is based on KE8.

Has anyone just copied the libs across and then used third party app (Total Recall for instance) with the standard recording policy?
I may try it later, this was all I needed to get the SGS I recording working properly.

I guess the correct way would be to have the sources of both audio libraries (.so) and apks and rebuild them after patching.
For the apk it's easy to decompile, but we should find the sources of .so, both for stock ones and korean ones, and look for differences.
Once the differences are known and sources available, it should be easy to add some useful features.
BTW, has anybody tried recording with bluetooth headset ? With mine it seems not working, and I'd like to know it it's a general problem or just mine

It should be enough to replace the apks and libs with litening original ones.
Weird problem, indeed... on my phone it works well, even if I haven't tested it very deeply.

Tryed with your update and CWM, and Phone apk crashes on my phone.
That's because I've got litenin 1.3 ? What did you change to make it multilanguage ?
Even just repacking both apks in factoryfs.img does crash. With my grabbed apk is all ok, besides the language.

Works perfect on KF1. Many thanks!
So where does it save the recording?

[Fix] Bluetooth-Sense Roms

I've extracted the bluetooth files from the Ace dump (Used in Desire HD Roms) and these seem to be working for standard Desire Roms too and solve the problem of some non working headsets, well at least for my couple of Plantronics units tested on my froyo/sense build. If anyone wants to test, I enclose the files. For Cm6/ standard froyo maybe try the system/etc files only, but I haven't tested.
Make a backup of your system.ext2 file so you can reverse changes.
Unmount system and place files in: /bin, system/bin. /etc, system/etc.
system/lib. (I deleted the current files first)
Again backup your system.ext2 as this might not work for you.
Do I try this if my bluetooth is connecting but not getting any sounds when calls come in?
Yep that's the problem I had with all builds (except new hd builds) this fixed it for me.
BT
may i know what does it do? right now i have to physically enable bluetooth by using the workaround. will this auto connect our bluetooth like the actual android phones?

Mine autoconnects, when you make a call you can here it in your headset now with no workround, no need pressing this or that button first. There are quite a few new files in the etc, folder which seem to be missing before. If anyone has any luck with this please let us know. ps. If your not using sense based Rom then your bluetooth lib files will be different and maybe wont work, so maybe try only the etc files.
Do you know if this works on the evo builds or just the desire builds?

I am using michyprimas latest evo based kernel. It should work on any sense ROM but maybe you can test?
Sure, still a noob at hacking these systems, a little more direction. I've found the root files using es explorer, now what?
Edit: did the root/system/<lib,etc,bin> directory in my Android folder trick and restarted. It seems to have loaded your files in /system/* , in /etc but not it /bin. It did not seem to fix my problem of no audio. I get all controls working fine (volume, call hang up, etc,) on my Plantronics 520, but no change in the audio, still comes through the speaker.
Maybe if you use something like root explorer to delete and replace the files in all 5 locations, rather than the root method in Android folder, then you can be 100% sure if it works or not. Check also file permissions all boxes ticked (chmod 777)
It's working!! Thank you!
I have never had my LG hbm-520 working correctly with any build until now. The fix doesn't seem to work when I tried it with Hastarin 4.1 but it's working very well with CoreDroid .4 plus Michy R0 evo build.
can someone help me out and tell me where the lib folder is located? I dont see it in the root folder. I see bin and etc but no luck on lib. Does it not exist and that is why i dont see it? I imagine i can just copy them over folder to folder and over write the current ones.
I am having the problem with bluetooth. Everything connects and allows me to control. However when i receive a call i can answer i just cant hear them and they cant hear me. It works if i call them though.
NM i see them in the /system folder. Gonna give it a shot.
So then the question is what location do we replace the files? in / or /system/ or ...?
@ aaronkt; there is an etc folder in the root of your device and within the system folder, copy/ replace files I posted twice, ie to both locations. Exactly the same to bin folder both locations, lastly to lib folder located within system folder.

Turn on the root explorer settings then you can copy over the files. Turn the settings off after you're done.
Fantastic,
this fixed all my problem with the car free speaking in my Ford S-Max.

Hi London Guy,
Could you please extract for us the hTC ebooker reader from the Desire HD rom. I imagine if the files are extracted the Reader maybe be able to work with the Evo and other roms even though its currently not working even with the HD rom. Sorry I dont know how to extract android apps from rom would have tried to do it myself. I am really looking forward to the day I will be able to use the beautiful htc Reader in my android HD2 similar to the winmo reader. Thx
Didn't work for me unfortunately.
I'm running this rom at the mo NexusHD2-FRG83_V1.2__Froyo_2.2.1_
I tried replacing all the files first and bluetooth stopped working altogether.
So I restored system.ext22
Then I tried just replacing the system/etc files. That didn't work so I replaced /etc files as well and that didn't work either.
I can't live without stereo music so I guess I'll have to go back to another build.
@playstation the ace dump has been posted here, if you want to try the ereader files. It will be much harder to get them to work as they are probably linked to that sense version and device id.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787199
@chrisnash it may have been useful to also change the kernel too in your test, eg. to one supporting the sense bluetooth stack, I guess the rom you used will be using something like michyprimas R11 then you needed to change it to the o (sense) version yours would have been the n (nexus) version.Having said that there are probably more changes that may be needed, maybe a plain froyo /cm6 based rom can be built from scratch to support the sense bluetooth drivers.
I; For one am wishing for an updated Froyo (Stock or CM6 only) build.....
(I tried this also with no luck getting BT).....
I am fortunately blessed with patience.......
I am having bt issues on the non sense builds. Bt pairs and connects no issues. Once I try to make a call, it locks up phone and I have to pull the battery. This has benn an ongoing issue with all builds I have tried. Any ideas?

Install your own apps via xRecovery - Collection of xRecovery files

Hi Guys!
Now that finally the devs arrived with some amazing ROMs, I change these ROMs a lot every day. But I experienced some problems because I often do that at work where I don't have adb shell available. So I created an xRecovery zip-file to install Android Terminal Emulator before booting into the ROM the first time.
That gave me the idea to offer you some zip-files with useful (free) applications you perhaps want to have pre-installed on any ROM before booting it.
I also attached two blank zip-files where you can easily add your own apps, perhaps a preferred keyboard in your language or whatever you want to push onto your phone via xRecovery.
If somebody's interested we could turn this into some kind of collection for universally usable xRecovery files.
How to use the blank zip-files:
To use this method, you need to have the app available as an apk-file, of course.
If you have the app already installed on the ROM you're looking to replace, you can just use a root file manager like Root Explorer to copy and paste the apk file from \data\app\ to your SD card.
If you cannot get the apk file, you can request it here or send me a PM and I'll try to prepare the zip-file for you. Don't ask me to do this with paid apps! This whole method is meant to be used with free apps and I will not add or support warez in any form!
Okay, now let's start. As you can see, I attached two blank zip-files: blank_data-app.zip and blank_system-app.zip. Why two of them?
There are basically two locations where you'll want to install your own apk's:
\data\app\ --> contains all non-system-relevant user apps and should be your choice in most cases. If you install here, you can easily uninstall the apps later if you don't need them anymore.
\system\app\ --> contains system-relevant and pre-installed apps such as vending.apk / phonebook.apk / Email.apk / Gmail.apk / Calender.apk / etc.
Only install here if you want to replace one of these apps with a themed one or if you want to force-update market for example! It's not possible to uninstall anything you installed here the usual way! You'll have to use Titanium Backup or another third-party app.
Only overwrite existing apps in this folder if you know what you're doing!
So, just choose where you want to install your app, open (NOT extract!) the corresponding file with a zip-file manager of your choice (I'd recommend 7Zip or WinRAR) and drag the apk-file you want to install into data\app\ (for blank_data-app.zip) or system\app\ (for blank_system-app.zip. pretty obvious, huh? ). Confirm to copy the file there and close the zip file.
That's it. Now you just have to give your zip-file an appropriate name and push it onto your SD card to install it via xRecovery-->install custom zip-->choose custom zip from sdcard.

Some comments on the zip-files attached:
- Android_Terminal_Emulator.zip:
This is useful if you installed a new ROM and experience problems like flashing homescreen or no GSM/data connection. In that case, open ATE and type the following:
su (confirm SuperUser rights)
busybox killall servicemanager

This will restart the phone and hopefully solve your problems. (I know this mini guide seems not to fit here, but perhaps someone reads it before spamming the dev thread with questions that were answered a thousand times )
- JIT_Enabler_v2-zdz.zip:
all KUDOS go to zdzihu. Make sure you visit his thread to always get the latest version of JIT Enabler.
Note that you only need this file on 2.1 ROMs where JIT Enabler isn't pre-enabled! On 2.2+ ROMs JIT is always included.
- New Market V2.2.11.zip:
Make sure to sign into your google account and open market once (accept licence agreement) before you update to the new market. Many people experience problems if they don't do this!
- TitaniumBackup-3.6.7.1.zip:
You can also create this file yourself. If you open TB and tap on Settings-->more... there's an option to create an update.zip
- XDA_app.zip:
Useful for any kind of problems of course

So, not much of a collection at the moment, but perhaps there's interest for something like that. If you know something that will come handy to have it preinstalled, just tell me!

Just one question in the same line like mezo, If I already have a rom zip file and I want to add to this rom the apps, would it be possible? and Could you explain us? or its just copy the files inside the \data\app\ folder?
Thanks again for your help.

As long as the apps aren't system-relevan, it's as easy as that, yes
For all of you willing to learn more: I'm quite a noob, too, but I'll try to make a tutorial on how to create recovery zip-files as soon as I can.
Won't be today though, because I'll go out to party into my birthday this evening

You can use the Android Kitchen to create custom zip files, I use the Cygwin method as it makes file management a little easier imo.
Great idea man, a lot of thanks!
1 zip - several apps
Is it possible to create one zip to install several apk's?
Maybe I have a few "stock" apps, the ones that I always need, and want to install all in a single step.
Can this be done or I have to install one by one even using xRecovery?
Thanks!
Great tuto and thank you for sharing

Firstly, the xRecovery depends upon its version of busybox. In the version I use it is 1. 15. 3
So re-install xRecovery(just in case).
Secondly, u don't hv to keep the back key pressed but tap it a few times repeatedly during the screen with "Sony Ericsson" logo.

hey im having a problem.
I know that you will say "this belong to another thread" but since this way i can trick the thing and install again the system apps like the Package administrator etc, i need to know what to do in mi case with this method:
mi BETA3 was working smooth!
iv been using the BETA3 a long time but some days ago, suddently i couldn't install apps anymore (thouse that are in mi SD or frome the market...not even Applanet...nothing)
The screen shows the "barber shop black and white" bar rolling and rolling and never stop.
Mi USB detection is not working, that means that mi PC is recognazing the phone (it sound like a UYSB is been conected) but never apear the folder of the SD. nto even options of debugging usb etc in the notification bar of the device.
and when i get in Settings> runing aplications, all aplication are in "calculating..." mode. so they say 00 mb. and never stop triying to get the numbers. its so odd.
the other aplication (that came installed with the BETA) works fine.
I have tryed, erasing the firmwares and isntalling them from the beginning and everything worked fine with old firms like 2.0 and 2.1 update1. too!
then i do the root (first z4root, then busybox, then xRecovery) and make xrecovery work. install the beta 3, and again i can't do anything.
i triyed installing the BETA4 but never stop rebooting so i just yield and stick with BETA3.
any idea..plzzz!!! i really don't whon't to use Eclair...it's just so ugly!!
it's not working on mi xRecovery. i put the apps insinde app folder of thwe .zip and put it in a random folder of mi SD, then do >the Recovery > install custom.zip>Choose from SD card>confirm install the selected "blank_data-app.zip".
and it say:
Finding update package.....
opening update package.....
E i asume E means Error!) can't open blablabla/blblabla folder/blank_data-app.zip (bad)
installation Abnorted.
i asume iv done something wrong...!?!?
PS: BTW can somebody sen me the original .apk of FROYO bwecasue i can't find them , to use the system-apps.zip

[DEV][20.11.2011] Android Gingerbread SIP over 3g for (probably) every GB based rom

Here is a bit of why I wrote this manual:
Back at December 2010 Paul from modaco found how to enable sip over 3g for the gingerbread native client, his original thread is here:
http://android.modaco.com/topic/327770-using-gingerbread-internet-calling-sip-without-wifi/
For chefs it is probably straight forward how to use this tip, but for me I always begged for cookers to include this in their roms usually they didn't even replay to my request, so I investigated this, and here is very easy way to enable this feature.
This guide assumes you are a little familiar with changing files on your ROM.
*I take no responsibility for this guide, use it at your own risk
So, what we are doing is modifying the framework-res.apk from from our framework directory.
We need:
apktools from here: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/
Two files are needed, this: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/detail?name=apktool1.4.1.tar.bz2&can=2&q=
And this: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/detail?name=apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2&can=2&q=
(You can also do this for Linux and Mac, this guide will use windows)
Take the framework-res.apk from your ROMS zip file inside /system/framework directory.
How its done:
Extract both files that you downloaded to c:\apktools (can be any dir...)
You should have 3 files.
Copy the framework-res.apk to the same directory: c:\apktools
start --> run --> cmd
c:
cd \apktools
apktools d framework-res.apk temp
Now a folder named temp will appear named temp
inside temp, edit the file: C:\apktools\temp\res\values\bools.xml
I use notepad++, search for a line:
<bool name="config_sip_wifi_only">true</bool>th
change in the line the "true" into "false"
save the file.
go back to cmd
c:
cd \apktools
apktools b temp temp.apk
Now rename your original framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.zip
open it with winrar/winzip/7zip it will open like regular archive.
take the file that was created by the build process:
C:\apktools\temp\build\apk\resources.arsc
Use this file to replace the file inside the archive of framerwork-res.apk.zip (overwriting the original, inside the zip)
rename the file back to framework-res.apk
And now you have a sip over 3g enabled framework-res.apk.
There are few options to push this file, easiest is just replace it in your ROM zip and flush the ROM, you need to wipe cache and dalvik cache.
There are other ways to push this to your rom but I won't discuss them here.
I used this on stock roms, AOSP roms, MIUI roms and Sense roms, worked for me on all, if you find a roms it doesn't work on please report.
Thats it, its actually quite easy.
You are Awesome! Thank you for posting this. I just setup my phone with this and it works great.
Great Process, a few little remarks
Shalom,
This is a great process tutorial and within 15 minutes I flashed my HTC Sensation to support Internet calls on 3G/4G, while before it was WiFi ONLY.
So now, no need to have any cellular minutes purchased, have DATA have LIFE.
Remarks:
1. Have only 2 files. You mentioned 1 download and then 2 more. The 1st is duplicated withing the 2.
2. The BAT file is apktool.bat and not apktools.bat.
Other then that, SWEEET.
Toda Raba.

Thanks, but why don't we use SIP third-party such as Sipdroid, 3CXPhone...? I think they are easy to use.
Nice work , What about Xperia Lines, will there appear 3G video calling button ?
I tried on Wet Dreams 1.3.0 for Atrig 4G and didn't works (Didn't show SIP Calling option)... maybe my mistake or isn't working with Moto's 2.3.6 build. But I asked to be added by the chef! Thanks for this tip!
If SIP options are not present in your Settings.APK it may have been disabled by the carrier.
The solution is to place the proper permissions file into /system/etc/permissions/ which will enable SIP overall on your device, then of course to this fix as well.
Solution found in various other places, just thought I'd add it to this thread since the thread is linked from the homepage.
Nice, surprisingly easy, almost to much so lol

Then the options probably just aren't there in your carrier's Rom. They were present in my LG Rom, after I pushed the permissions file. However, when I tried to use SIP, it would force close as soon as the call connected... something else missing.
In my case and yours, the answer is to use SipDroid from the market.
Pls any guide on how to do this in ICC ROMs

Volume rocker awake 2.3.5

Hi again! Does anyone got volume rocker awake to work on a rootet original. Fw 2.3.5 to work? Incase, how.?
EDIT: It seems that yannn007 has an easier way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22163390&postcount=95 I tried it, and it didn't work for me, unfortunately.
Since I promised to add to the wiki, let this be the first. I learnt this trick from a ROM by birdyi, so I credit him; however, I have seen it in ROMs that existed before his did.
How to make the volume rocker wake up the phone with the stock locker
Prerequisites:
apktool
Obtain /system/framework/android.policy.jar from your phone
Decompile said file using apktool
Open android.policy.jar.out/smali/com/android/internal/policy/impl/KeyguardViewMediator.smali (note, if you chose to extract to a different folder, then replace "android.policy.jar.out" with the name of your chosen folder)
Find the line ".method private isWakeKeyWhenKeyguardShowing(I)Z"
In this function, look for:
Code:
:sswitch_data_0
.sparse-switch
Underneath that, you'll see the following:
Code:
0x18 -> :sswitch_0
0x19 -> :sswitch_0
Remove the 0x18 and 0x19 lines, save and use apktool to rebuild the android.policy.jar file. Place it back onto your device and restart.
can u put the file already modified here?
It differs depending on ROM, I think
is it possible to make some think like a batch to do this ?
i have added the line to the prop file but it has not worked...
i am not familliar with this method and i am afraid of doing it
Magiclocker. No battery drain, full sleep. volume buttons does wake device, tested on u8800pro, gingerbread rom540 by geno, rooted.

Would also like that,thank you
Any dev can help?
widget locker also use volume rocker sw. for awake.i think no memory usage and min battery drain
HAhahahaha works!!!! Dammit I love open communities!
in order to awake with volume rocker sw, replace "androidpolicy" (in the attachment) with inside the "system/framework" than restart.it works.(tested with 518 and 526)
for replacement you must have root explorer or es file explorer with w/r permision.

It works just fine on B522, thank you, barkiniseri!!
See my thread here also for a flashable version or returning to stock:

it works on b528 (with atmel-fix) but an ERROR indicating at each start-up that google framework has stopped unexpectedly.

Rather than use the flashable zip, use the instructions in the first post to modify your own android.policy.jar file.
Works, 100% reliable, and can be done on almost any ROM.

True! But... "One, does not simply find and use apktool"

What do you mean by "flashable zip"? There is only jar file. Do you know the way to flash this jar file?
Thanks for your help and sorry for easy questions.

Sorry, i thought it had been packaged in a zip. Either way, what i mean is make the mods to your own file, to avoid issues where you install a file from a ROM or version that is different to what you have and make things break. The mod is easy to do.

Tried this file on mine and almost got bricked... I thought this would be compatible with the new ICS from DZO.
When I rebooted the phone, it got stuck on the Aurora ICS screen. I had to reinstall original ICS plugging the phone to an USB without the battery. If the battery was on the phone I just got the pink screen when rebooting with volume up+down+power...
My phone specs:
U8800
Android 4.0.4
Kernel 3.0.8-perf-g2600408-dirty
Build Aurora_4.1.4.0.4 IMM761 eng.
Martin.20120605.162907 test-keys
And since I don't have the time to learn jar editing, I'll wait for the time being.

[ROM Release] Kiss4Droid (Based on B572G)

This is the 1st ROM I developed/cooked
It is based on official B572G Release so it's Gingerbread 2.3.5
The ROM follows a K.I.S.S philosophy trying to have almost no extra apps installed so you can build your system around your needs
Let's see what changed:
Changes:
1) Changed Default Launcher to Zeam
2) Removed a lot of apps from Huawei and left only the essential ones(install everything else you need from PlayStore or by installing apk files from other roms)
3) Changed Default CPU Governor to SmartAssV2
4) updated hosts file(no more ads) and gps.conf (for europe usage)
5) Added Volume Rocker Wake
6) Unlocked FPS & Root Permissions(of course )
7) Removed some audio files from the media folder to save space
8) Added init.d & build.prop tweaks(some of them may not work, but they don't have any side effect in the system so I left them there on purpose)
9) Changed Camera & Settings Icon to look like ICS (thanks to Pikachukaki for his great guide in replacing .png files in apk files)
10) Patched libsqlite.so
11) HDR function enabled on camera(well this actually is included in number 8 cuz it's a build.prop tweak )
12) Fast Boot Option is removed (again a build.prop tweak)
I have also made some little tricks here and there in the cust.img so make sure before flashing the ROM that you have a working backup and/or a backup of the cust.img
I edited the cust.img and removed all extra apps and module files there, and also changed the default language to english because without this the ROM would boot the 1st time in chinese
If you don't want to flash my cust.img that is in the .zip file simpy delete it from there
If you flashed and you want your old cust.img back simply boot into pink screen and replace it with you cust.img backup
There is no side effect from the cust.img change except that you will lose swype, huawei ime(I prefer the basic android keyboard anyways) and also the Totem Weather Widget
Installation:
Do the following in any order
-------------------------------------------------
Wipe data/factory reset
Advanced->Wipe Dalvik Cache
Mounts & Storage-> Format system
--------------------------------------------------
Now flash the .zip file
Reboot
Enjoy!
Everything is working in this ROM (because it's based on official B572) except TV-OUT of course
Anyway.Tell me what you think of my 1st work on android.
Happy Flashing

Nice ROM. Keep It Up. Post Some Screenshots If You Can.
Thanks.
Screenshoots added!
Note that the screenshoot app and es file explorer that you see in the 2nd image aren't present when you first install the ROM.You have to install them from play store
That's great. thanks for share.

hmmm. That is a personal opinion. I like cm7 more due to the power widget, screen on/off animation etc
But if someone wants an official huawei gingerbread ROM(official for U8800+, not a port from honor e.g kalo) then this should be a good choice.
