I've tried cooling this to no avail. Seems I might be first person with this problem.
My gtalk can send chat messages but cannot receive any.
I'm on v26 firmware unbranded x10.
I have tried killing the app and the service, and clearing the cache. I installed nimbuzz just to check if it wasn't a mobile sync issue.
My Motorola milestone receives messages.

I am having trouble text messaging my mom because the phone is adding +1 to the beginning of her phone number. The text message never goes thru. When I send the text message by typing in the number it sends fine.the problem is only when I select the contact from list. The contact list does not have the +1 in it so I don't know where it is coming from

Yea, i actually sat on the phone with verizon tech support for 2+ hours while they debugged this issue, turns out for some reason the +1 breaks it.. they never gave me an explanation, only a fix. Take the +1 out of the contact and make sure its saved and synced, you also need to nuke your message history after making the change or new messages will still have the +1 in front of them.

I tried taking it out of the contact # and killed the message history but still not working

I have the same problem...I don't get why this phone was released with so many bugs....I'm about to go get an Incredible
I had the same issue and was waiting for someone else to have this problem too. Removing the +1 on your phone contacts won't sync it completely it seems so once google syncs on your phone again the +1 will return. So what I ended up having to do is going on gmail on my pc and deleting all the +1 contacts in there. That did the trick right away. Hope this helps

same thing happened to me (sending a text to AT&T) - had to remove the 1 from all my contacts via GMAIL.
Now fixed
Strange. I don't have any issues like this.
I did have the same issue as the op described, but I think the ota update fixed it or the clean rom posted in the development forum corrected the messaging app. It definitly has something to do with the messaging app since when I installed handcent sms all my messages worked without the +1 being added.

I had the same problem and fixed mine..here are the steps I took.
Log into Gmail on your computer, go through all your contacts and take out the +1 as well as the dashes 123-456-7890 to 1234567890 and save that. I then did a factory reset for my phone. Everything works great now.
I think when you have a GSM service they use the + symbol
I had this same problem. When I got my phone the text messaging was working just fine. Couple days later no one was getting my text. So I went down to the store and they did everything they could do and I finally figured out it was the +1 in the numbers.
I switched over from a G1 on T-Mobile, so GSM can use +1 but it seems Verizon or CDMA has a problem with it.
I went through all my contacts, got rid of the +1. Yet when I'd send a message through the default sms app the moment they replied back it would automatically add the +1 again. So the only solution I found was that I had to use a different SMS app. I went with Handcent.
Im more concerned why you have the country code in your contacts list anyway? Ever since I had my first phone years ago manuals said not to put the country code in your contacts list for domestic contacts. Ive never had a problem.

i tried everything... the only thing that fixed it for me was a complete factory reset

I had an sms issue I have been trying to resolve for weeks. Spent three hours with tech support troubleshooting, and finally determined something in the hardware. Took it in for a replacement. My g/f has the same phone, and no issues.
I wish verizon (or Samsung?) would fix this!

When traveling internationally, it's a royal PIA when your US & Canada contact records don't include the country code and you're trying to place a call to north america... When I go overseas, I use an unlocked GSM android phone, and I would like to load my US contacts via Google in a usable format (10 digit numbers aren't usable from abroad).
This is a Verizon-Samsung bug - removing the country code from all US contact records is a work-around (not a fix!). My previous Verizon phones (mostly old Windows mobile handsets) had no trouble sending texts to US mobiles using the international standard country code prefix.
I just loaded up the leaked froyo modem, kernel and rom (EB01, EB16 & superclean 2.6 voodoo respectively), and unfortunately I see this issue persists...
Can anyone tell me if any of the verizon Android handsets from HTC or motorola share this flaw?
Thanks!
So I have 2 problems.
Hangouts:
Can not send or receive MMS (I have turned on SMS integration).
Voice mail:
Voice mail app keeps telling me I have an update to take, but when I tell it to update nothing happens. I've force stopped and cleared data on it, and rebooted.
2nd Voice mail problem, I'm not getting voice mails delivered to the app, I have to call in to get them.
Thoughts?

For the second problem, it's because Hangouts is snagging the text notification before VVM can get to it. Turning off SMS integration in Hangouts solves this problem)
So I've turned off Hangouts SMS integration until this problem is resolved. I've seen the same problem in the N5 forums as well today.
Still leaves me with the VVM won't update problem, we'll see what I can do about that.
yes, broken mms is now a known issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541409 I'm not sure about your other issues as my phone took the vvm update with no problem.
Broken only on Sprint now it seems... Default is working with other variants as of last 2 updates.
This is resolved with the update released yesterday. Just bringing closure to the discussion.

Recently hangouts has stopped receiving a lot of my incoming SMS messages. I had been using hangouts for a few months with no problems and after flashing a new ROM I stopped receiving all of my messages. I find that they all seem to come through when I use the stock messaging app, or at least I hope they all come through, and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling hangouts with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced this before?
i had an issue with MMS. i updated my rom then got 30+ messages that i previously missed at once when i booted with the new rom.

Both SMS and MMS work if they manage to come through. I also tried doing a full wipe and then flashing an update to the ROM I'm using which did not fix the problem.
Could the problem be due to having hangouts replace the stock messaging app through the google apps package that I flashed?
This problem seems fairly common on the Nexus 5 forums. Does anyone know of a workaround other than using the stock messaging app?
I've similar problem to, I sent a text message to my gf and the text she gets its different from what I sent

I'm still having this problem. I updated my ROM a while ago and everything seemed to be working perfectly. However, I later tried using hangouts for a video call and got stuck in a continuous call. Upon ending the call by clearing the data for hangouts, I stopped receiving text messages. This was two days ago. I still get texts when I use the default messaging app as my primary SMS app
I started having problems with others not receiving my text messages. I could receive texts but when I sent a text message it showed that the message was successfully sent but the other party would never receive it. I went to Sprint today after spending all weekend trying to figure out what happened. The tech guys at Sprint said it was Google Voice causing the problems. I disabled Google Voice online and called Sprint to have them remove it from my account. Texting works again. Thinking about it, it seems like the problem started after the Hangout Calls integration. Still not positive that was the problem but so far it seems to have fixed the issue.
Did you remove the Google Voice app altogether? I was having issues with sending SMS and removing the app allowed me to send them again.

I removed it when the merge for Google Calls came out. I eventually removed Google Calls while trouble shooting but that did not work. I even froze Hangouts with Titanium Backup at one point. I seem to remember reading that you cannot remove Hangouts so I have it on my phone but I signed out of it.
I'm having an issue sending and receiving mms messages, unless my 6p is plugged into a power source. It was working fine until last Saturday. I'm running stock, with the bootloader unlocked. I don't have any adblockers, and tried changing the APNs, and some other tricks people have tried on the forum. Any help or advice would be great.

You didn't list what you tried, so... try turning off wifi calling preferred.

I apologize, I have tried turning off WiFi, turning on and off airplane mode, enabling and disabling auto mms download. I have WiFi calling off. As soon as I plug my 6p into a power source it will download them. It isn't restricted to just pictures, or contact cards.. I also received a longer text that was sent as an mms and it wouldn't download.

Which carrier and texting app are you using? I've heard there were issues with an update to Verizon's texting app recently in regards to MMS.

The change to the Verizon app was they disabled MMS over Wifi with the recent update. You can get around that restriction by installing a previous version of the app.

I'm on Verizon, I'm using the stock messenger app. I've tried Hangout as well but same result. I have not tried the Verizon app. I know the newest update was causing issues and would have to install the previous version.

Where is a good trustworthy place to download the previous version of the Verizon messages app?

I was able to resolve the MMS issue last night. I downloaded the Verizon messages+ app ver. 6.0.6 and tested to make sure that I was able to send myself a picture and was, I then went to my APN setting reset to default, retested with the VZW app and still worked, back to APN changed MMSC and MMS port. Reboot my phone checked that the APN setting didn't change, did a retest with VZW still worked. Opened messenger (stock app) and did a test and MMS was working there as well. So far still using messenger and things are still working. Hope that helps anyone.

Is anyone having a similar issue with Rogers in Canada? My regular text messages usually send immediately but when I send photos or screenshots (MMS), it will get stuck and won't send. Also, when these MMSs are stuck, my regular SMSs won't send either until I get a notification that MMSs has failed. Then all my SMSs can be sent. It seems like Rogers issue for not being able to process larger MMSs but I want to know if others using Rogers are experiencing it.
