For those who really need to unlock their XDA sim lock.
Since I purchased my XDA2i from eBay and there's no way to use O2 sim card in Australia, I then sent an email to O2UK's support team (look for the email in your XDA user manual), saying that I bought the damn thing from eBay and now out of O2's coverage, what I should do with the sim lock.
After a few emails between us, they granted me an unlock code for free!!! Well, I'd say, O2's not too bad at all somehow.
PS. They will ask for your IMEI, so I guess you can't cheat them if you are an O2 contracted customer.

I got mine from o2 UK about 2 weeks ago and it is unlocked.
hmm
had 2 now of friends which are locked.
maybe clever to test it or ask before you get one.
unlock universal
imei-check.com have found a solution to our needs but it is not cheap
and it involvs sending the phone to them....
Alexis
What a laugh! They charge EUR 74,- plus shipping. I'd rather pay EUR 99,- here at the tmob shop and the Universal never leaves my hands.
i got my phone on the 1st december and its not locked.
but i got it from o2 online.
i agree
id rather pay even double this money, like ill pay 140 euro i wont have a problem if thas what it takes, but my universal wont leave my hand.
i dotn feel like sending my phone overseas to get unlocked, actually the guyz OF imei check might be afraid that the guyz of our forum here, will sniff technics out of thier unlocking tool if they offered it online, but they are just limiting themselves with this, knowing that there are other people in other very far away countries, that needs this service, i dont think a guy in the US or Australia or asia, will send his phone to the uk, may be im thining wrong
or from Poland like me
Hi guys just a bit of advice needed...
I have a o2 streak, but i want to use it on my other networks, should i wait a while for an unlock solution cos apparently the rebel sim doesnt work??
I just want to check if anyone even knows if unlocking the device is even possible? will we ever have it unlocked? And more to the point is anyone even trying to unlock it?
well, straight from the horses mouth...ie o2 is that they wont unlock a contracted phone for a 12month stint and a bought outright one (3 months) - ive just got mine from a guy that bought his outright (start of june) and got told he cant have a code til the start of sept - im currently going down another route to get the code from "a bloke i know..."
So it really depends on how you bought yours....
I bought a dell streak on ebay, And i am using an o2 payg sim in it, that i have had since dec 2009,i have applied for an unlock code from o2 by filling in there online form,as i have purchased the streak outright ,will i get it unlocked as stated in above thread, thanks.
Pretty slim my friend. If its a contract one youve got no chance - they wont unlock it for a year (i think thats already been said). Ive got a few irons in the fire at the moment, ill let you know what happens with mine once ive got my code (hopefully)

It actually means either
1. get a pay as you go o2 SIM
2. get an o2 compatible SIM
3. Get a rebel SIM
4. Pray for an unlock code
I did 3 and am currently doing a lot of 4 ;-)

we have a chance to come out code?
I believe that O2's position with the unlocking of SIM-free and pre-pay Streaks isn't actually legit.
Ofcom's guidelines are that O2 can only refuse to unlock the phone until they've recovered any subsidy offered on the phone - in the case of the SIM-free and and pre-pay versions that amounts to £0 and £30 respectively against the cost direct from Dell.
I would call O2 customer service and ask for the unlock code (they can ask for a reasonable fee for this). If they refuse tell them that you'll be reporting them to Ofcom and open a complaint with Ofcom (http://www.ofcom.org.uk/) if enough people do it I suspect they'll relent and do what they're legally obliged to do.
As far as the contract Streaks are concerned, they are within their rights to refuse to unlock for 12 months, but as they're getting their pound of flesh through contract payments whatever happens to the phone I can't see their justifcation for refusing...
Hope this helps...

Has anyone on here had there dell streak unlocked by O2 i purchased one outright for PAYG i have filled in the unlocking form on O2 web site but have not heard back from them yet,i was thinking of getting the rebel sim to unlock, but i am hoping O2 will unlock it as i am PAYG,i dont mind paying a fee if dell are selling it unlocked on there web site ,why are O2 refusing to unlock for PAYG O2 customers then
O2 will not be unlocking Streaks for the forseeable future, that is fact whether you have filled in a form or spoke to a CSA who says thet they can do it....it will not happen
OK tell me more about the rebel sim as I am on vodafone and don't want to move to to O2

Hi
I have the dell streak, and am on vodafone UK ,i just received the rebelsim card 2 yesterday and put it in my streak, seems to be working fine with my vodafone sim,i am on a vodafone contract, all i did was put my vodafone sim card in an old nokia ,that does not have 3g,to get signal, and then put it in my streak with rebel sim and vodafone sim card ,seems to be working great, if you buy the rebel sim for the dell streak just now, they are giving you a free case for it,and a free screen protector, and if you enter the code "Rebel" during checkout you get an extra 5 percent off the total price,i paid £14.50 including postage in the uk the free case is quite cheap made, but for free,it will do until i find a better one i was a bit wary about getting the rebel sim at first, but now i am using it with vodafone uk and it works fine,so go for it

This seems all good but do you get 3G using the rebel sim? because if not then it seems utterly pointless to me.

HI
Yes you get 3g but sometimes you can lose signal/service/just put it back to 2g in the streak, and it comes back no problem,i can receive texts and calls no problem give it a try, you have to keep data roaming on as well to get the 3g i think, something to do with the way the rebel sim unlocks the streak
Do you have to put the sim back into a 2G phone and then back in the streak. Or can you just set the Streak to 2G and then back to 3G?
Somehow vodafone 3g can work on Dell Streak with rebel sim. Im on 3 and no 3g with rebel sim. I dont want to stay with O2 so hence the sale of my Dell Streak, waiting for the unlocked one price go lower so I can afford one

Just put the dell in to 2g mode, then after a few minutes switch streak back to 3g
See my post on how to get cheap RebelSims
http://android.modaco.com/content/forum/312587/how-to-get-cheap-rebel-sims/
is rooting enough?
Elaborate please. Do u want to unlock it so you can use it with any sim?
exactly...
Maybe it already is unlocked. My virgin mobile Legend was unlocked. Try a sim from another carrier and see if you can make a call.
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
If you bought it with an offer or a plan from your carrier, it might be locked to that carrier (mine is too).
To answer the question, NO, rooting does not unlock it. You have to purchase an unlock code from your operator (check with them what conditions apply to this) or from Internet (there are a lot of unlocking sites with prices around 10-40 USD for unlock). The procedure is the same...you provide the IMEI and operator/country and they provide the code. Then you insert an unaccepted SIM and enter the code.
After unlocking (one way or another), this is permanent. It is not affected by the ROMs you're flashing
maybe the rebell simcard works.
but regulary you need to request an unlock from vodafone wich is pretty expensive.
thank you all....i'll check it out
I've checked with Vodafone (RO) last Friday for this. The answer was simple. If I want to get it unlocked, it'll cost me 50 EUR inside the contract period (I have a min 2 years contract) or, 10 EUR if it is done after the minimum contract time has gone (that is after 2 years).
To be honest, I just found (searching on this forum) a link to a site that unlocks it for 10 USD...so when I'll need this I'll surely go for it.

In Romania, everything's possible
I don't know the unlock fees and conditions for other countries, might be lower.

Yes, it is much lower in the US where I used to live (usually around €7/$10), and T-Mobile would provide the code for free after 90 days on contract or earlier if you were travelling outside the US. At €50 plus whatever fee is charged to break the contract early, I would think it would be cheaper to just buy a mobile sim-free and unlocked.
I won't need to have SIM free in order to break the contract earlier. I still want to remain with Vodafone...just that when traveling abroad, it might prove to be cheaper if I use a local SIM instead of using mine in roaming.
The guaranty is dead anyway from the moment I've rooted the phone and went for another ROM. I don't think that a SIM unlock code purchased cheaper on Internet will bring any changes to this...so, when I'll need it, for sure I won't give 50 EUR to Vodafone. I could better buy you all beers for the 40 EUR difference and make a good thing, instead of giving that to Vodafone, that anyway doesn't help at all (we don't even have the official update available and no news about it either)
wasnt it htc romania which said that unbranded phones will get the froyo update?
however i think they just unlock the phone the same way vodafone does so it doesnt really matters.
just spend the money on beer and be lucky with your unlocked phone

Don't know that. The update is not yet available neither at HTC nor Vofafone...and I don't care either. Meanwhile I'm enjoying CM RC2...
