Sony store USA X10 insurance. - XPERIA X10 General

Hey fellow members, my friend recently bought an X10a from the sony store for $129.99 with a contract renewal. The best part was the accidental protection plan was $69.99 for 18 months.
I personally think the protection plan is great. I just sent my beloved X1 for repairs and got a call that they couldn't give me another X1 but instead will be sending me a brand new X2a. I don't know how the X2 compares to the X1, but you can't complain about an outdated new phone instead of a refurb.

Are you serious? that's awesome. So now you have both the X2 and the X10. Good for you mate

Insurance

Hi Guys!
Which one insurance is THE BEST? I'm litlle bit worried to have this toy with my during night-walks or when my girlfriend have need to give-me-a-hug-no-matter-what-I'm-doing.
I'd like to cover almost all aspects of l;oosing this gadget
I heard that I can even get a free battery after 12 months?
How much do I have to pay? Should I call o2 or different company?
Thanks in advance
Chris
Well I got mine when I brought the Exec. I pay £4 a month with o2 for the insurence which is the Gold plan. It covers just about everything execpt damage by war or invasion of the conutry!
Er..my gold insurance with O2 was £4.99 (aka £5!)
Have you ever claimed - if so what was the response like?
Jut getting connected to o2 has been a nightmare, christ knows how hard it would be to get a loss/theft claim processed.
Thanks!
I'll call o2 today and will try to buy this inssurance.
Should I buy from O2 or from the different company?
BTW. I've got two post-paid accounts with o2 (one in Germany and one in UK) + many PAYG SIMS in UK and I've never had any problems with them. Even this Exec was sold to me on VERY good price +12 months +6 months double texts/minutes. ))
I'm realy happy with them )
Best regards
Chris
Does T-Mobile offer any insurance plans. I couldn't find anything for consumer users (business user I don't know).
I certainly would have ordered such a plan. My MDA Pro is worth too much to me... And yes I have dropped it. Now speaking through my bluetooth headset comes with cracking noises. The people at the T-Mobile store were really nice. They will try to assign the damage/issue as a factory fault and get it repaired for nothing or a small amount of Euros.
And, yeah size matters. Though it is a wonderful gadget concerning functionality, it is too bulky as phone...

Cheapest (but usable) Android Phone?

Hi guys.
I'm developing an app for Android that I need to start testing in "the real deal".
Can you recommend a cheap Android phone (I don't mind getting bulky Chinese clones, as long as they work) that is good for development purposes?
By the way, I'm in Spain, so it would be better if I could buy it online and unlocked
I'd say G1. It's the original dev phone can be had on the cheap from T-Mobile.
G1 totally. T-Mobile is selling them "as low as 129.99" with a data plan. I got mine at eBay last month for 200$.
I got a brand new T-mobile pulse on a special offer from T-mobile and it cost only £91 (around €80) + £10 topup (and I get £15 cash back if I use the sim for 3 months).
So it's worth keeping your eyes open for deals like these. You can grab them on ebay cheap too.
or wait till january and see what happens with the whole nexus one story, rumor is ti'll be < $200
<$200 without a contract? Interesting...
go for a vogue. this is a windows mobile phone, but if you look in the forum for this phone here, its 99% android because it runs android so well. this is cheaper than the g1 and is made by htc.. better than chinese crap any day.
What about the HTC Tattoo, granted the screen resistive unlike the rest of HTC Android line up, which is captive screen. It is still a good device from what I read and it should be fairly cheap.

I just picked up a Blackberry 9700 ($75) and then I got the Behold II ($120) from one of those tmobile lil places at the mall (not the official tmobile store).
This was all because my wife traded in her old Blackberry 8320 and they'll give you 2 phones for it... (The deal is a 9700 for $75 and then a free 8520, but i hate blackberry's or WM phones after having an android phone) so she got her crappy blackberry and I picked up the Behold II. Love the fact that it has 320MB RAM. As soon as we can try custom firmwares, etc, i'm going to give Debian Linux a try on it.
Behold II is already rooted with Busy Box installed on it.
Check Spains Craigslist, I know they have it cause I used it last time I was there
Not really sure how you say android in Espana but its worth a shot. Of course, you could check other areas but likely going to think you are a nigerian scammer or something. I have seen G1's on there for $125 USD locally

Nexus One from Vodafone, free upgrade within Contract...

Just thought I would post this incase it helps others.
I have been hankering after the desire for ages, but still have 9 months left on my contract. Went on Vodafone chat today and told me HTC Desire out of stock, have been with them for 15 years or so and said I needed it for business but needed old number as all ads had been printed.
Offered me Nexus One for £370 as I was in contract but when I asked if I extended contract came back and offered it for free for a 12 month extension.
Same tariff (only £30 a month) which I thought was a bargain. I figured seeing as someone will no doubt port a perfect SenseUI to it on these great forums, I was mainly losing an optical trackball!
SO glad to get rid of my HTC Magic as well, it was so laggy.
Looking forward to Froyo now....
That's worth knowing, thanks.
I bought out of my 18 month Voda contract up to the upgarde date after 12 months (for 68 quid), sold my Magic (which was battered) for 80 quid, and then upgraded to the Nexus.
I like being friends with the manager of a phone shop...
Was it locked or VF branded?
No lock or branding on Vodafone uk.

What, the Magic? Neither.
Myself also had my contract extended by Vodafone. Got a contract along with release day Nokia N97 last July. Contacted Vodafone one month ago explaining to them I was unhappy due to the N97 neither being very "smart" or reliable as a phone lol. They were happy to send me a Nexus One while me paying £5 less per month. So all round really very pleased as my contract would have meant no upgrade until 2011 otherwise and the N97 would have been VERY outdated then lol.

[CLOSED/DZ] Where are you getting your Desire Z from? Contract/Sim-Free?

Hey,
Was just wondering where people are planning on getting their Desire Z from and if you are planning on going the contract route or just paying for it out-right and getting a sim-free phone.
As of yet it looks like Play.com , handtec and clove look the best for sim-free.
As for carriers I am yet to see this being advertised on any, only the Desire HD is showing as coming soon.
I had a chat with someone from T-Mobile today and the think they should have them in October and wouldn't say when.
Contract options are going through my current contract with T-Mo and getting a locked and branded handset and keep my unlimited data (3gbs) or going through any of the other carriers through a dif website and their max unlimited data seems to be on T-Mo but is down to a ridiculous 1gb/mnth.
What your thoughts?
Getting mine sim free. Had a Touch Pro 2 which I bought outright, and just got a contract o2 sim from carphonewarehouse which I swapped out to sim only... Running at about £5 p/m... Anyway, TP2 died, sent to insurance, who gave me money towards my new phone
So, looking to get the Desire Z. Prolly gonna go to handtec... Was told that htc only offer the 2 year warranty when bought from authorised htc resellers, otherwise, it's only a 1 year warranty. Anyone know how true this is?
Can't wait till they're released tho Looks a great phone...
Good point about warranty. But I'm going to pay by Egg Money Card to get extended warranty to 24 months.
I remember my last phone from T-Mobile had 2 years warranty. But when I tried to check Handtec and Clove websites I couldn't find anything about warranty period for this phone. But other HTC phones have 2 years warranty.
handtec sell UK stock and is covered by 2 year warranty via HTC. I have my past 4 HTC phones from them.
Sim free from ebay

I was reading somewhere that the date got pushed to October 16th I think for anyone buying from tmobile. I could be wrong though seeing as they have already postponed it once.
As far as contract vs outright, I know I dont have 500 dollars or so lying around and am already tired of ATT service, so im going with the discounted handset and improved service
Always buy sim-free. In Poland contract is installment purchase with very high interest rates in fact. I prefer unlimited internet & text + 1000 minutes instead of new phone with poor plan.
definitely SIM free...in Australia, I would have to wait until around 2011 before I could get this phone on contract - and even then it would be very expensive!
Looking at expansys...which will be selling it for around $760AUD including shipping..but i'll also see what ebay sellers can do! Hopefully around $700!! (or less)
Amazon.co.uk. They won't be available in my country (Slovakia) at launch, plus they will be overpriced as hell. Expansys has it overpriced too (even including the postage fees i will be around 510 euros from Amazon, vs 535 euros from Expansys).
On contract ? LOL. HTC Desire was added to my T-Mobile SK phone list just 2 or 3 weeks ago .
I have a free handset upgrade just sitting in Telstra's system in hopes that the Z will come to them. Either the Z or the Droid 2 World edition or whatever other bad ass phone may come.
I am from New Zealand want a contract free phone i doubt Telecom/Vodafone releases it .They just released Desire & X10
If i buy from UK or any other international seller where is the warranty applicable?? .

Generally the warranty wont be valid outside the country the device was purchased in.......but I cant guarantee that
Best thing might be to email HTC about it???

The question you got to ask yourself with this question is if you like to play around with your phone like flashing roms and all sorts of other stuff on your phone (since you're on here I'm guess that could be a yes)
Do you want to have that process be easy then go with the Z or if you prefer jumping through many hoops and possibly not having that ability you could go with the Moto.
I got to say I love Moto hardware, they have some of the most rock solid build quality and design but how they lock down their devices and have that rubbish blur on it annoys me....not to mention I was about 2 seconds away from buying a Milestone last year when it was released and seeing that it might never get its 2.2 update really makes me glad I didn't.

You might want to have a closer look into how much that 'unlimited internet' is that they are giving you. I was doing one of those chat things with one of their sales team and turns out that even though they were offering me a T-Mobile contract that it would be through mobilephonesdirect and so their unlimited internet is only 1Gb instead of T-Mobiles 3Gb which I though was a total rip-off.
Let us know when your phone finally arrives, not heard many good things about that company. Hope everything goes well.
by contract, vodafone NL 200, €25 pm for free, hopefully by the 15th oct, otherwise 8th nov
Still waiting for offers. Currently only vodafone is offering a not expensive contract here in Holland. Now €25.
Problem is that the " unlimited" internet here is limited, except on t- mobile. So ill wait a bit since my contract will end in the beginning of November.

Their deals have changed. When I went into work the next day after ordering this package, my boss asked why I didn't get a phone through our company, as he can claim money back or something. So I had him look into a deal for me and if it worked out better, I'd cancel this one. I went back to the site to double-check what the deal was so I could give my boss the full details and I couldn't see the package I had ordered the night previously. So by the looks of things, it is no longer available.

Upgrading from Galaxy Note....

Hi guys, just want to get your opinions on something I'm rather struggling with....
My contract is over and I'm now in the market for something new!
However, now the question! For the last 3 months I could'nt wait to upgrade to the Note 2, but now this Xperia Z has cought my attention whole heartedly!
The options:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (white) with 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data.. No upfront handset costs on a 24 month contract for £31 a month...
Or
Sony Xperia Z (black) with 500 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data.. No upfront handset costs on a 24 month contract for £26 a month...
I use around 200 minutes a month so both are more than enough!
I'm gravitating towards the Xperia, but dont know if I'll get on with the soft buttons and I never use the S-pen, so no selling point there..
I am however a massive MIUI freak, so neither "Touchwiz" nor "Xperia" launchers will satisfy me in deciding this myself!
Which one would you choose?

the XZ is faster more update tech, XPeria always has great developer support in part due to the excellent source release from Sony, since the MI2 phone runs the same SOC I can imagine it would not take to long to get MIUI on the XZ.
if you love popsicle colors or you find viewing angles very imported it's better to get the note 2 or wait for newer Samsung devices

I had the Note for a year absolutely loved it, it was actually my second 5" phone, I was one of the first adopters of the Dell Streak 5.
Upgraded to the note 2 in november 2012, I loved that even more than the note 1, but i have been won over by the xperia z's looks, camera and waterproofing. I pre ordered from clove last week, and just sold my note 2, so the net cost to me was about £120.
If you can afford to buy a hand set out right you should, put a GiffGaff card in there, I worked out my last contract over 24 months was costing me 180 quid a year more than just getting the hand set out right and using the giff gaff £12 deal that comes with unlimted data.

Someone at work told me about GiffGaff, really worth thinking about, but spending £400 - £500 out right in one purchase seems to leave a more noticable void in your pocket than a marginal £26 a month..
on contract from Tmobile it'll work out at £600 over 2 years on contract, but if I were to buy the handset at £500 + £10 a month for 24 month it'll work out more expensive at £740 all in, so idealy the Tmobile contract is the way to go...
Nearly the same experience for me. Had the Note 1, and my contract was up. The only difference is I'm in the USA.
So, I could get the Note 2 right now, but nothing else (newer). I am waiting out the Mobile World Congress to see what pans out from all manufacturers.
I decided the Note 2 was not much of an upgrade at the on contract price ($299 from ATT). Now if there is a price drop in the next 2 weeks, I may cave in!
I'll be selling my Note 2 and pile of accessories for about $600 on ebay (going rate) to cover most of the cost of the xperia z. I'll be out of pocket about $150 bucks. The camera and water/dust proofing are the main features that sold me on this device. When i bike to work I can throw this bad boy right on my handlebars with an 'eposed' mount and not have to worry about rain, snow, or dust while still having full access to my phone. I am thinking of holding out for the C6606 for the LTE but currently use the N7100 which doesn't have LTE so I can live without it....we'll see.

I'm also coming from the Note n7000.
For me the choice was quite easy, since I can sell my Note.
Look at it this way: You pay less for a newer phone? What else is there to doubt about.
I can't say which one is better since I haven't had any of the 2 in real life.

So you're choosing the Xperia?
I also have a Note 2 (N7100) and I'm exchanging it for a Xperia Z (long story) in the last year I've had One X, S3 and Note 2.
Main reasons I'm going for XZ is camera, Sony excel in this area. Also Note 2 is slightly too big, I've got used to it but one handed use is impossible, most nights I drop it on face lol! So having a phone that I find a reasonable size I'm looking forward too!

i mean you can ask the same question in any forum and they are going to tell you their phone is the better choice...
i would just try each out and look at the development forum for each....this phone isnt even out in most places and all these people are telling you its the better choice LOL that dont make to much sense....dont let all these all these "pre-order fanboys" make up your mind......i mean just look at every person who told you to get the XZ not a single one of them own the phone haha......
thats the problem with asking these kinds of questions in a specific forum....of course the XZ is going to win in the XZ section....
