Pull the battery, start odin, hold vol up + vol down, plug in usb, put battery in, it should start in download mode, and then next time post in the general section.

yes it happened to me early today i thought i bricked it but there is always a way out. you have to use odin and flash the stock rom and you should be good to go pm me if you still having trouble ill help you out
Just have to search the forum. There is a very detailed thread. Fix for almost any brick

This is Development. Your phone is not bricked. This is a waste of board space. Developers (who this board was created for), need this space to test their work and receive feedback.

I turn My sgs off. But when i hold Power + Volume up + Menu, It just boots phone normally. It will not go into recovery mode no matter how long i hold them for.
Any suggestions?
If you have download mode (same but with volume down key) then recovery mode should also work. For me to get to recovery I release all buttons once the galaxy s screen shows then recovery screen pops up about 5 secs later.
If you dont have download mode then check this out. I have used the Odin method numerous times without issue but take your time reading the instructions.

This should fix it.
EDIT: just noticed you mentioned menu key....its actually the home key you need to press instead.

I give up with this. Ive read about 7 trillion step by step guides and my phone just aint havin it.
Im buying an HTC Desire HD.
Screw galaxy Ive had enough.
Thanyou for your help :]
I always have trouble getting to recovery mode using the power + up + home method, the easiest method to get into recovery mode seems to be using the extended power menu or quick boot apps.
I TRIED EVERYTHING the phone will NOT get into download mode... i forgot my got damn password to my gmail and now i cant even activate the phone.. i found out i can use odin3 but the thing is no matter what i do it will NOT go into download mode
Pull battery. Plug phone and computer using usb cable. Hold both volume up and down. Insert battery. Works everytime unless of course you flashed i9000 boot loaders in which case only hold either up or down.

Do this + try tapping the menu key and or the home key while holding down the other buttons.......... there is a timing trick to this but one of these will work . Also in Q & A S14274N Noob bible has all the other ways check it out.
as a last resort u can always get a usb jig to get u into download mode!

If thats red recovery, voodoo, then go down to voodoo and in there should be reboot to download mode.
If its not there or you dont see red then search in recovery as some have dl mode. Also if you have adb set up on your computer and you can get to recovery then in command line type adb reboot download.

Try this:
Take the battery out and put it back. Then you should hold both volume keys while plugging the usb cable to the phone. Don't release the keys until download mode appears.
maybe ur hardware locked? s thats why u cant get into dl mode!

What ROM are you running?
If you are completely stock, then use Kies to update to the latest official stock ROM, this will fix your 3 button issue via a SBL fix.
I love the SBL fix.
Ok so these last few hours I've been trying to Odin my phone to stock jfd and Ive hhad no success. Ill load the pda and pit files and everything and Odin wont even recognize my phone. Any help? I really want touchwiz back. Excuse me if I didn't do enough research, I'm impatient right about now !

did u put the phone into download mode? because if u dont odin wont reconize ur phone
1. power off ur phone
2. hold the volume up+down and plug in the usb cable
3. u should enter recovery mode with the picture of the green robot digging
4. load all the neccesary file in odin and start flashing!

ohhh wait i forgot to mention one more thing u dont hold the power button during the process just only the volume up+down button
power off phone
pull out battery
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
You need the Nexus S drivers.
None of this iis working!

ok .... first you need to find a flashable vibrant 2.2 kernel, that has the new edifiy script (I used eugene's 2.2.1 deadhourse kernal with added edifiy) .... go into recovery, flash the kernal, then from the recovery ,reboot recovery .... DO NOT TRY TO BOOT UP THE PHONE ....then you will need ODIN and JFD stock rom ...set up ODIN ,pull the battery ,and replace it, then press and hold vol up and down and plug in the usb .. the phone should now be in download mode .... make sure you use a pit file and select reportion in ODIN.... hope this helps .....
I just had this problem. Easiest way for me to get my PC to recognize my phone was to connect it to kies mini and then have it download the drivers. It will download the nexus s drivers and then Odin will recognize your phone. From there, you're good to go.

Basically, thats whats going on. I've followed instructions on various threads, tried everything. The phone simply will not boot into recovery no matter what I try. Is there anything left I can do?
Let it sit for a day and try again. It worked for me many times in the past. Sometimes Odin would recognize my phone that wasn't even in a download mode.

Was fastboot enabled? Have you tried pulling the battery before attempting to get into recovery?

try to odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
The vibrant is tough to hard brick so keep trying

I had this when running TWRP and if I remember you hold the "off" button down until it starts to reboot and then quickly hold the up button while it's rebooting.
You may be able to just hold the start and up button at the same time then turn the start button loose when you see the logo.
Again; I can't remember exactly what I did but it's safe to say to device is not broken.
One note: I was never able to get TWRP to run correctly (consistently) on this device without at least some issues.
I use CMR with no problems.
Also when I had this problem i had to do a complete wipe to get completely into download mode...
Good luck...

That's correct! it will auto restart so you have to get your timing right. Try holding down the start button and as soon as the screen goes blank release the start button and grab the up button..
