My digital compass points east no matter what I do. Anyone else having this problem? Or do I have a defective unit?
HTC suggested a hard reset. Anyone know a good way to back everything up, including apps? I am rooted, but I understand restoring apps is an issue when ATT doesn't allow apps to be installed from back up software like titanium back-up.
Thanks for the help!
You prob need to calibrate it. I downloaded the compass app and then follow the instruction to calibrate.

No change... Thanks though. I will try a hard reset. I just realized that rooting my phone installed nandroid as well. So I guess I can back up that way. If the hard reset doesn't help, I'll take back the phone and try a new unit.
After rooting the new phone will my nandroid backup work work on it?

Yeah... I guess I will try... Works case I have to do another factory reset. They are both Arias, so I would think it will work. But I've read that know there are some settings files that are IMIE specific. Don't know if they would be backed up and restored or not.
If anyone know of a potential "Bricking" that could happen, I would like to know. I'll be getting the new one on Saturday if the hard reset doesn't work.
Thanks!
Nandroid backup restored on the new phone will work fine.
Factory reset - Compassed Works
Install my nandroid back-up - Compass stops working
Factory reset again - Compass works again
Individually re-install every program, widget, and setting and run every program - Compass Still works
Make a nandroid back-up with everything working in case it stops working again.
Something must have gotten messed up somewhere along the line. But I'm glad it is fixed now. After dealing with all the issues with the Captivate's GPS I thought I was about to bail on ATT.
Thanks for the help everyone!

First, I just wanted to ask if a Nandroid backup on one CDMA hero could be safely used on another CDMA hero. I should specify that there are 2 different versions of RA on the phone...for some reason my phone wouldn't work with v1.5.2 and my brothers wouldn't with 1.2.3
Second,
I am attempting to reinstall Teeter on my phone from the Fresh Rom Pre-Kitchen 0.2 and it simply won't work. Debug on pre-kitchen comes through fine, I have install lock screens on 2 phones from it but couldn't get teeter to reinstall on either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks
I know for a fact that a Nandroid backup from one device will not work on another, atleast not the whole backup. Some portions of the backup are non-device-specific, while others are. I don't know about the Teeter problem though... I have never tried to reinstall an app. Have you made sure that you have allowed the phone to install from unknown sources?
you could just push it to your phone manually

+1 on that. Everything always goes more smoothly for me when I do it manually and know exactly what's goin on.

I've used backups from other phones quite a few times with no problems. one from my phone is currently being used by another member on xda with no problems. my gf got a new hero from sprint (paint chip on end key) and we restored her backup with no problems yet. that was three weeks ago.
I'm not saying your wrong, but my personal experience is otherwise..
I have tried pushing it, and (teeter) will not install, it gives me an error and says that it cannot be installed.
Tomorrow I will try other files to see if they work but other than a corrupt file I'm not sure what the problem could be.
I have rooted my Vibrant but when i try to back up my apps, titanium back fc's anyone else having this issue?
Yes i'm having the same problem also...wonder if there's a possible fix for this.
Can anyone else confirm that titanium backup is not working?
I sent the developer my logcat. hopefully he can resolve this issue...
I am also having force close issues. Can usually restore an app or two then it force closes on me.
Broken for me too.

I was able to do a backup, but the odd thing is none of my apps showed up at all. Just system settings. But no FC's.
would one of you take a logcat and post it. I will then proceed to send to the developer to see if we can get this fixed.
i have been working w/ the dev, i can confirm this is fixed and i assume there will be an update soon.
EDIT: attached the patched 3.3.0 version.
Awesome news, I had the same problems!
Hi everyone,
I don't own a Samsung phone so thanks a lot for your help in solving this.
The bug-fixed version 3.3.1 is released on the Market, and backups should work fine now.
I'll be adding more Samsung love in the future
Have a great Sunday !
It now works but it still wont detect my user apps after the update.
I never had fc's, but Titanium hasn't been able to back up my apps. I'm assuming it isn't looking in the right place for them, but not sure if there is an option to change that.

I do not have that issue. however depending on the size of the apps being installed it can take a bit of time to install. Does it say it is restoring or anything or nothing at all?

it just sits there at 0% on whatever app is first. if i close it out that first app manages to install but without data. the one time i did leave it on for around 10 mins it managed to install two apps.
is there any special thing i need to do before i do a restore?
note these apps are from chromatic 3.7 w/ my g1
edit: just tried new setting under restoration, although its not as fast as doing it on my g1 I managed to get things restored
I am slo having an issue where Titanium says its restoring, but just sits there doing nothing. SOmehow Ive managed to get it to restore once, but I had to wipe and now I cant get it to restore for the life of me. Tried w/ original busybox and the one that downloads inside titanium, both w/o success. Seems that titanium has some sort of issue w/ the Galaxy S.
Has anyone found a solution that allows you to restore your apps? Thanks!
EDIT: Whats really strange is if I try to hide titanium, relaunch it, and try and backup. It gives the message "backup already in progress" but for whatever reason it moves onto the next app...so strange
the only thing I have on my phone is Fresh 3.4.01 nothing else and it reboots at will, like a 50% boot, ie: screen remains and phone appears to reboot, but its not liek when you turn it on........seems to be happening more and more...
If I do a factory restore will I lose all my contacts ??
what do you guys think ? thanks
Did u do a complete wipe before u flashed the rom??? sounds like u didnt....
You can export your contacts to your SD card for a hard copy, and your contacts are synced with your Google account. Google.com/contacts.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Login to your Google account and see if your contacts are backed up. If not do what someone said and export to your card. Wipe and see if you still have an issue if so try a different rom.
thanks for the replys
I bought the phone new,had the last fresh on it, was only 4-5 weeks ago ?
So i`m using it for a few days works great right, then i get into the phone and see what its running, and google it and see there`s an update available, so i contacted the guy i bought it from and he says no problem do the update if you want...
So i downloaded the file, plugged in my phone to the computer put the file where it told me to, rebooted phone pressing the volume down was it ? and followed the instructions....
So basically it did an update WITHOUT wiping the phone..... truthfully i did`nt have it long enough to know if it was rebooting before i did the update so i`m not sure if its the phone or the software...
These phone are so darn cool i love it to no end, and just want it to work 110% like the rest of yours.
I am an IT consultant and could use a good remote desktop app as well, any recommendations ? as all the ones I have downloaded so far have asked for full access to my phones every move ! whats up with that ??!!!
hey thanks in advance all here you guys rock

If someone else rooted your phone there are a few things you need to do. You need to make sure you have Amon_ra recovery installed and you need to to a nand backup with Amon_ra because it backs up the wimax keys. You also need to do a full wipe when installing a new rom wipe cash and dalvik I do it two times. Than install the new rom, keep in mind you will loose everything and always do a nand backup before installing the new rom. Now if your going from a 3.1 to a 3.2 rom update a wipe is not always needed but a nand backup is incase you need to go back. Hope this helps.
If you know how to root or are capable of following instructions to the end, I say unroot and try to use it like that. If the problem persists, take it in for service. My phone started rebooting randomly because the processor was overheating. I troubleshooted by replacing the battery, changing ROM, unroot, take it in. The phone got to the point where any data intensive app would make it turn off (maps, navigation, YouTube).
might wanna check out this thread. hope this helps

Hi, (this is my first post here)
well I have a really nasty problem. Since my kitkat update there have been apps facing a lot of issues, thanks to their bugs/wanted changes with the permission setup and so on... In an attempt to fix that I tried to flash the new A7 firmware yesterday. (was on the unbranded A6 from Poland)
The problem was that because I'm unbranded, it FAILED at the end of the flash. So the obvious solution would be to flash the FW with a PIT file. But I don't want to loose my data and restore everything. It will take me 8 hours at least. (and this with nandroid backups and what not)
Well after some trial and error it booted up. But the system was corrupted i.e FCs and and and... So I flashed A6 back. All worked/works well now but I have an enormous problem:
The Bluetooth is broken. It tries to turn itself on but doesn't get anywhere. And in the eventually it stops, after 30/40 seconds. And after that it starts again. Well the obvious solution would be to go and delete the bluetooth data/cache and also delete the /data/misc/bluedroid/ folder. But nope. No success. And the same goes for reflashing/dalvik cache+cache wiping and so on. I also tried to take the battery out for some time.
Well the catlog show a lot of problems. It seems to be permission problems in this case too. I know that you suggest that I should only wipe it. But if i restore this **** will get back too. And re-installing everything from scratch will take me 2.5 days. I have like 750 apps or something.
Please help me with this, I beg you!
This is the catlog(filtered):

But anyway I know that I can fix it if i restore fresh. But I want to repair the Bluetooth, without factory resets.

This is why I use cwm to make a backup...
But seriously, it looks like you might need to do a complete wipe... It sounds like some fragment of the A7 rom has been left there to corrupt your bluetooth....
Pain I know but sometimes this is the only way....

I love many things about android, but one thing that seems to completely miss is the ability to factory reset only certain things like your settings, radios and so on.
Is there really no way to extract everything there has to be, from A6? Like zeroing all bluetooth files but nothing else?

Nope, unfortunately not...
Did you edit or flash the platform.xml(extSD fix KK) by any chance??
If so, others have reported Bluetooth breaking (among other things) after editing/flashing the platform.xml. The only fix was to start from scratch (factory reset).

Yeah you're right. But I still can't wipe... Like that would mean hell for me.
I really DON'T UNDERSTAND why I can't reverse it. Why flashing that zip messed eveything up. Like why doesn't it work now that I've restored the platform.xml backup? Are you shure that there isn't any way? It really doesn't make any sense at all.

Well, I didn't encounter this problem when I edited the file. But I'm just relaying other's, who had this prob and had to factory reset. I would of thought restoring the old platform.xml, setting right permission & rebooting would have fixed it, but apparently that doesn't work. You could possibly try this as a last ditch effort, but going by what other's have experienced, I think resetting is going to be the only fix.
Would you like me to upload my platform file for you to test?
EDIT: (you'll need root) here's one I prepared earlier- rename the xls to xml, move to /system/etc/permissions and set permissions (file)6,4,4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49574602

Who in this world put that crazy idea in your head??? Did you even try? Maybe you should
Well I really love android, I do. And it has too many good aspects to switch back to iOS, BUT, Two things really are missing:
an uncomplicated, selfupdating store for mods (it's slowly getting better with the arrival of xposed framework but we still aren't at the same level).
Before xposed, xda was the only place for mods. And devs have to implement auto updating features in their apps themselves if they want it...
With xposed it's as I said better but not really the same actually.
And the last thing is really about my problem here. Nandroid backups/etc are good but not always an option with 25/30 gb of data on your phone (im not including media only apps and so on). So I really ask myself why there isn't a restore/reset option for some things like the system backbone, wifi, bluetooth etc. And this whole permission thing is really pathetic.
I also miss Icloud because it does backups without living a big fingerprint on the device. No bat drain and no errors. Carbon/Helium and all that other crap even titanium are really good but to complicated and battery/process hungry compared to icloud.
So while almost everything else is awesome about android IMO, this really sucks ass. And it's not that I am a noob or to stupid to backup. It's about the fact that it's not as convenient.
Well well....

The only thing I can think to do is just restore your device to it's original factory settings/ROM as it will restore all the system files and hopefully restore your ability to use Bluetooth, then try rooting you device by using the one click root from towelroot.com, which hasn't caused me any problems what so ever.

Do i n just need to do factory reset or flash original rom?
And towleroot did'nt work for me?. Is' nt there a way where all my data does' nt get lost?
I would do both, first do a factory restore then flash the stock ROM and hopefully it will fix the problem. Towleroot worked for me, but I had to access the site and download the. apk file using my phone and to answer you last question when you flash a custom ROM all your data is erased, so you should backup your information before you, flash a ROM, or do a Factory restore it will make things easier.
