I was testing out the phones 720P video recording and I decided to directly upload it to the tube but it told me that that I have to upload over wifi.
My question is can I upload over 3g? Since (go ahead point and laugh) I get faster ups and downs on my vibrant than my home DSL (3 - 5 up 1-2 down vs my 1 up and .2 down -__-) Damn you DSL!

Hi, A big problem I had with the iPhone was the video compression when streaming video in applications such as youtube.
I thought there would be less or no compression on the Nexus One since the higher resolution makes the video look even more appalling and I can't even make out what's happening.
I was wondering whether there was an option or an app which lets me disable this or lessen the compression so that I can actually make out what's happening in a video rather than staring intently at blocks and smudges. (forgive me for hypocritically pointing out the irony that that's what we do: [pixels and colours])
once you choose a video in youtube press Menu > watch in high quality. and prepare to be amazed.
Yeah the HQ videos look amazing, i havent tried other sites yet. The video adobe put out of flash running on Android looked pretty damn good too, cant wait for that.
is there any way to get it by default to always go to high quality
not that I know of.
After i set it to HQ its played all the videos in that format as far as i can tell, obviously it depends on the quality of the video the person uploaded

The bitrate of a given video stream in a given app has next to nothing to do with the native resolution of the screen you display it on.
Specifically, most mobile video streaming app will ask for a low bitrate (highly compressed, grungy looking) stream when they detect that the device in not on wi-fi and will request a higher bitrate stream when on wi-fi, if you are lucky (I.E. in the android youtube app) they will let you override this automatic choice.
I.E. video quality is a function of the source streams available, the app requesting/displaying the stream and the bandwidth available on the device's network connection.
Only _after_ all of that is it possible for the screen to make much difference (and they generally don't).

Hmm, this sucks. According to my brother all UK networks compress images and videos (presumably so they don't have to upgrade their basestations/backhaul anytime soon ¬¬), with the possible exception of Three UK as they have the largest bandwidth available in the UK.
I guess there's no way around that, unless there's some sort of proxy or something?

Thats right Three UK doesn't as i get same quality of the video as on WiFi.

Playing around with Qik for a bit. I was under the impression that Qik is supposed to provide 2-way "vid chat", which it doesn't. It uses your Evo's FRONT camera (not the 8 megapixel cam on the back) or BACK camera to stream a live video to the web.
As you can see, there is noticeable lag. I don't think it's possible to view the live stream on another smartphone using either the browser or Qik. I can only view my live video feed from my desktop.
Streaming video hasn't been enabled yet, but *will* be a feature of the service in the coming weeks(ish)

Whats stopping another evo 4g user from opening your feed from his phone, and you vice versa while you are both streaming? It would be a few seconds off but eh, it beats waiting.

Well it would be something more like 1 minute off if you're both on 3G I'd think.
I found a interesting thread in Xoom forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116940). It seems that only Xoom can play 720p flash videos at 30fps, Transformer only gets about 10fps...
Can someone with a GT10.1 running Android 3.1 please test this and report how many fps you get?
http://www.youtube.com/my_speed
Scroll down and click "Show Test Video", select 720p video.
there's been some talk that they capped it to 30fps in android 3.1 all around (i'm sure they had their reasons)
I'll try to run it for you later to double check if someone else hasn't already
On the I/O 10.1 with 3.1, I get 30 fps on average. The number varies from 27 to 37, but mostly stays around 29-33. My Flash Player version is 10.3.185.23. My YouTube account is opted in to HTML5 video (WebM).

Thanks! You selected 720p, right?
so, I finally tried it on mine. 720p. I mostly averaged around 25-33 fps but I had a couple of dips all the way down to 12 fps.. but never noticed any lag.
latest version of flash, and I have the I/O tab
It seems that GT10.1 don't have problems with this, so that's good news.
Can someone with retail GT10.1 also test this?
Bump. I also want more results on this test. With the retail version especially.
I have compared android version 4.2.2 (s4) with 4.1.2 (note2). Both sets are using the LTE technology. I have tested on both device by running a similar length of HD youtube video via the default youtube given by respective phone. However, i found out something surprising.
4.2.2 uses 100MB of the data usage for just 5.44min HD youtube video while
4.1.2 uses just merely 20+MB of the data usage for similiar HD youtube video.
Hence, my question is why the amount of data usage used by 2 different phone varies so much?
I'm just very curious why does such things happen.
I ask such question because my android usage is very high, currently at 1.73GB within 2.5 weeks of my monthly plan. I reckon it could be synchronizing my contacts, facebook and twitter. There was once when i downloaded foursquare using wifi. When i clicked and opened the foursquare app, it instantly uses up 0.95GB of my dataplan.
It's a worrying factor as you know service providers are rather stingy with their LTE data plans.
Cheers.
Because Galaxy S4 has a full HD Screen, the HD Video on Youtube plays at 1080p while Note II one plays at 720p for HD since screen is 720p.
However, there should only be about twice the size difference.

Have either of you noticed the lag associated YouTube. Seems while watching a video it stutters a fair bit at times. Can anyone confirm?
Hi, there is something wierd i am experiencing with my note 4. The quality of the video pre n post going into slow motion is very poor. Its very framy like its running in 10-15 fps before the slow motion starts n after the slow motion ends n the video starts to play at normal speed. I also took a slowmo video on my note 4 n transfered it to galaxy s6 n after the rendering the video was smooth.
I also saw a couple of slowmo video taken from note 4 posted on youtube n they too were framy.
Please help
