Hi guys,
so afew days ago my pc seemed to just turn off randomly as my phone was charging from it.. my pc still worked ok after some quick tinkering but my phone would no longer boot into the old modaco desire rom i had installed.
I figured it was a good time to find a froyo ROM instead and so i decided to get the eViL NXSense ROM. Last time it was much more easy for me to install since i had just unlocked and it all went smoothly, this time i put the ROM on my phone and tried to flash it and it just doesnt load, it sits on the 4 colored lines :\.
Can some1 help me and guide me how to install this and get it working, i really need my phone up n running.
Thanks in advance.
Link to the ROM i want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290
i dunno. Ive only flashed cyan stuff. Are u running 2.2 or 2.1? Maybe u need to upgrade ur radio? Did you wipe?
+1. Did you wipe?

what problem are you facing? which recovery are you using?
Ok, i did wipe 1st, im using an old recovery which i used when i 1st flashed my old modaco ROM, cant remember what its called but it was up-to-date then.
I discovered i have more problems though. My PC doesnt seem to regocnize my phone, i can move files around using the fastboot fine, but activesync and such doesnt regocnize my phone :\.
How can i fix this since i guess this needs fixing before i can do much else?
:S sorry im a total noob at this rly feel kinda in the deep end.
Hmm.. I am sorry. I don't have any idea about that syncing problem. I hope other member may help you with that.. I am noob too..
Personally, i would start off dealing with the computer issues.
Find a program *win version* called usbdeview. UNINSTALL all drivers related too your phone.
Make sure you have at least the SDK/Tools folder.
Reboot your system.
Connect your phone and reinstall the drivers.
Activesync??? Ummm what's that needed for?? i used too use that app for Motorola phones.
Make sure you have at least the SDK/Tools folder.

When you install the android Software Development Kit (SDK), it should create a folder inside of it that is called "Tools".
For me, it is at C:/android-sdk/Tools. This is the folder that contains the magical fastboot and adb tools that you need to do anything devious with an android device.
Ok, then it seems i don't have it at all.. did a full search and cant find it.. i did format my pc around 3 months ago and dont think i ever really installed anything for my phone since i saw no need for it.
I've downloaded it now from the android website . All unzipped and ready to use.
Hi guys,
first sorry for my bad english.
I have a big problem to face with my N1
I wish to install a custom ROM, so I've rooted my phone and downloaded the Rom Manager apps from Market. I've flashed the clockwork recovery and downloaded the cyanogenmod. So I reboot my phone in fastboot mode, select recovery and now I have a black screen, nothing happens. My phone boot only when I take off the battery, so now I have no Recovery mode in my phone. Someone can help me please ?
My N1 is in FRF91 build, with a Vodafone ROM from France (SFR)
EDIT : I've already tryed to flash the original recovery and AmonRA recovery (1.7.0 and 1.8.0) from my PC but it fails everytime and I have this message => FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
You've opened a new post on this, also...

Ok, so a quick update/ask for more help. Thanks for the advice so far, it has all worked, i uninstalled all drivers, restarted, plugged in my phone and reinstalled the fastboot so now my pc is recognizing my phone at least.. i have the SDK/Tools ready for when i need them. I don't know whats next though, must i flash a new recovery image? if so where can i get this? Or must i 1st update to froyo?
As long as you have root why don't you download rom manager from the market place and use that to flash new roms? It'll update your recovery if needed. It is a well rounded, worth while app.

Update:
I used amon_ra's recovery 1.7.0 and managed to flash the old desire rom i was using before, but as i said.. i want to update to froyo and use eViL's NXSense 1.21.3 ROM, this requires a new Radio and Kernal i believe.
Can some1 please tell me how to install what i need to to use this rom?
here is a link to the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290

I want to install a new ROM, but i need a new kernal and radio, how do i install them?
Which kernel and radio do you currently have, and what do you want to change to?
Have you already tried anything (if so, what problems are you having)?
Here's the radio info:

You can flash kernel from recovery in pretty much the same way...

well, i don't know how to find out what kernal/radio i am using currently.
I need radio 5.08 kernal im not sure, but as i explained i want a froyo based desire rom installed. which do i install 1st? how do i go about it? im sorry but im really noob at this stuff .
I just bought my Epic 4G a few days ago and quickly discovered the existence of rooting and custom ROMS. Needless to say I took the plunge the other day.
I attempted to install the Epic Experience Froyo yesterday but it doesn't seem to load up properly.
Seemed simple enough. I boot into clockwork, I cleared data/factory cache, cache partition, and davnik cache three times each. I installed the ROM from my SD card, install says it's successful, so I hit the reboot.
After this I expect my new rom to load up but all that happens is the samsung logo comes up for about a minute, phone reboots again and goes into the factory Android system recovery utility.
Any ideas? Please help, my phone is inoperable at the moment.

Sounds like kernel. Dl a costume kernel and flash it thru cwm.

I'll have to apologize ahead of time because I'm completely new to rooting.
Which kernel should I use (a link to one with instructions would be helpful), and how do I get it on my SD card if it isn't booting up? (my pc doesn't have an SD card reader)
Did you first use odin to install the DK17 modem and kernel through odin? That might be the step youmissed because if you just flashed straight from stock 2.1 to epic experience you need the updated froyo modem and kernel. Check here if you're still confused.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
So, flash Odin/DK17 and then flash Epic Experience over this?
Ya also did you first do the one click root method to make sure you are definitely rooted? If you press. Volume down + camera button + power when booting and the letters are blue you are NOT rooted. If they are green then you are rooted. Sometimes when you install a rom it might take away your root so you might try doing it in the order of this:
1. Flash back to stock 2.1
2. Do theone click root method
3. Flash DK17 modem through odin
4. Install Epic Exprience

I went straight from 2.1 to 2.2 firmware without using odin or anything of the sort. Will I notice a difference? If so what difference will it make and can I just install DK17 modem and kernel or do I have to revert back to 2.1 first?

Hm that is interesting. When i first made the mistake of going from to a 2.2 rom without upgrading the modem my cell & data service wouldn't work. It kept looping on and off and would not stick. Maybe it depends what rom you went to as maybe some require the modem as mandatory and others do not? I am not sure. But if its working for you, you should just be able to flash the DK17 through odin without going back to 2.1.

Go to settings -> about phone and then check where it says "Baseband version" it should say DK17 in there. If it doesnt follow these instructions to download the files you need. It has step by step directions
http://www.nomie.mobi/how-to-install-dk17-modem-samsung-epic/
I assume this is the rom you flashed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856715
In the first post it has a link to the instructions to properly flash the rom. You can use those instructions to flash the modem and see if it fixes your problem. You might be better off just flashing everything again. It would mean downloading odin and the files to your pc and flashing them to your phone from your pc. The simplest way to do this is follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
Follow the instructions carefully and when your done you have the new modem, the froyo rom, clockwork recovery, and be rooted.
I was at the site earlier but when i click the dl link it takes me to some wordpress and tells me registration is currently not allowed then asks for a username and password
@Raylusk can i do this method even if i am running the 2.2 firmware? Or would i have to revert back to the original is so how do i do it?

I actually skipped step 2 and everything went fine for me. My laptop was being an asshole and not seeing the phone, so the 1 click root script simply wasn't working.. but then I realized that the DK17 flash via Odin that I got form the epic experience thread included clockworkmod and was pre-rooted and everything so I saw that step as unnecessary.
Ok guys. I've ODIN my Vibrant several times and when I try to flash from CMW, the rom doesn't flash. Im on the official 2.2 rom. It gets stuck at Installing Rom and the status bar freezes...It sits there for 30 minutes and nothing happens. Can someone give me some advice on how to fix this. I'm just trying to flash another rom. I'm not new to this...I flashed about 4-5 roms before but again, for some reason, now its not installing. Any help or suggestions would be great.
PLease I need help you all
Flash back to stock jfd via odin and start from there. Thats where I always start from, never had any problems.

Hi,
- After fresh ODIN, install the ROM Manager, and from there flash latest CWM recovery.
- Im not sure about the downloaded ROM zip file. Try re-download, check md5sum if possible.
- Reboot into recovery.
- Flash ROM and follow the guidance. (Best you might be need to read again the original OP of ROM thread, before you flash it)
Good luck.
I Think i have bricked my nexus s ......it wont startup and goes to do first setup but force closes....i can access recovery but when i flash a rom it aborts ....only just bought it

Please can you elaborate...or point me in right direction......recovery is now only accessible by flashing it first....phone just wont do anything
download a 2.3.3 nandroid backup and restore to it using clockwork recovery
ignore odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093
update to 2.3.3 using http://android.clients.google.com/p...2cf141e6a.signed-soju-ota-102588.f182cf14.zip
or just download CM7 and flash that along with gapps (wipe dalvik/cache/factory)
and your phone is not bricked. the definition of a bricked phone is a phone who cannot access recovery/fastboot/etc.. can access absolutely nothing
Well, he does say that his attempts to flash a rom always abort...
OP, we need more details.
Are you using Clockwork Recovery? Which version? Try an older/newer version...
What ROM are you trying to flash? Have you tried others?
What happens when you try a normal boot? You say you get as far as the first setup screen?
Have you tried a Factory Reset of the phone from within recovery (stock or clockwork)?

I think it might be okay now ....after titanium said busybox was installed....i dont think it was done correectly.....after downloading busy box from market....recovery seems to be sticking rather then reverting back to android. Just to check....is there anything i should do to check all is well on my phone and also while flashing i think i changed build number from IR to GH (what are the implications of this move? many thanks...phew
EDIT- NO recovery still wont stay....any ideas?

That's normal. See below:
It's normal to lose the recovery after the reboot, the steps to flash the CW recovery needs to be repeated every time you want to access the CW recovery.
This is due the build in protection in 2.3
As some one pointed it out on another topic, the good thing about this is that you'll never lose the stock recovery of 2.3, thus minimizing the chance of a bricked phone.
If you want to the CW recovery to remain permanently, you'll need to rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something thing else

Click on the below link, this might help you in getting back your tab to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171089
hopefully you know how to use Odin. You can odin back to stock with no problems bro. Future advice... never flash a kernel unless you know its compatibility with the rom your running. You can always ask first. Someone will always answer your questions here on xda
i downloaded the stock rom but it's in a zip format, how can i use that on odin? i thought odin only used .tar
Can you the zip onto the tab? If so just flash it from cwm. If not check here
If you took a nandroid prior to flashing the kernel on the tw rom you can do an advanced restore and restore just boot. It worked for me when i had that problem.

I've flashed the Bonsai & Touchwiz Roms, and a kernal. Now, when I first turn on my Tab I get the "noisy screen" too. I'll wait a minute or so, and the screen will change to different noise two or three times, then the Samsung logo comes on and everything is cool. Just wait for it... if it takes excessive time, it could be some type of bootloop. The bootloops I've had don't occur in the 'noise', but rather, on the samsung logo screen... it'll keep playing the power on sound. The only time I got the bootloop was when I tried to flash the kernal over the touchwiz update... bad idea.
Good luck... don't be scared.
thanks guys, i found the 3.1.tar and flashed it with odin and now am using the TW rom.
i did a backup this time and now let's go out playing with this amazing product.
