Hi all,
I picked up my Galaxy on Monday although I haven't really had a proper play with it yet as i'm waiting for screen protector and case first
Anyway, one thing I did try out was playing some films. Depending on the resolution of the film some of them look perfect whilst the others looked squeezed together. I remember seeing something similar on the HTC Desire when I tried it out but it had the option to adjust the ratio and make do with top and bottom borders instead.
Is this possible with the Galaxy video player as I can't seem to find an option to change the ratio?
Thanks,
Dazz
When you are playing a file... bring up the play/pause menu by tapping the screen... you'll see a box in the right hand bottom corner of the play bar... tap it to cycle the aspect ratios.

Thanks crabby thats great, I thought it was the stop button

Hi there, I've had my DHD for awhile now and have been looking for ways to capture my photos by just touching and holding on the screen but haven't had any luck on it. On my previous HTC devices I had no problem capturing photos by just touching and holding on the screen.
Is this because of a setting being turned of? or is it just the stock camera app that comes with android 2.2 that doesn't include the feature?
Thanks in advance.
Touching the screen sets the point of focus so I'm note sure how this would work?
Yeah that's what I also thought so it's most probably the camera app that doesn't let me do it. I also read I that you're able to change the volume buttons' functions on the dhd, that could also work..
I thought the vol buttons operated the zoom?
Talkiing of zoom, has anyone noticed that the camer seems zoomed in a little by default (not according to the zoom meter) making if very difficult to get the subject in the frame without going some distance away?
Thats because you're on 16/9 mode. Switch to 4/3 and you'll get a lot more in your frame

Hmmm, that answers the problem to an extent - except I seem to have two modes only:
4:3
5:3 (widescreen)
Where the hell did 5:3 come from? Surely this should be 16:9 as above?

hi i currently using the android 2.3.2 my question is.....
when was using windows 6.5 i could watch you tube videos in full screen and high quality, now using android 2.3.2 and you tube videos will not open in full an are poor quality although bbc iplayer plays full screen and high quality.
is this a problem for everyone using android on there htc hd2 or is it just me missing something?
I am using HyperdroidGBX v5 which is 2.3.2 though could be cooked differently than whatever you are using. I use the Youtube app v 2.1.6 for to access my youtubes. When in the app hit the middle hard button and select "settings". The first setting is "High quality on mobile", this should be checked to get HQ videos. To get the video in full screen just double tap it or turn your phone on its side. When in full screen you should see a button in the upper right corner of the video that sais HQ. The green light under it should be on if it is HQ and you can press the button to toggle between HQ and SQ.
Anyway, that is how it works for me.
thanks its now in hd still not full screen though iv been in the settings and theres nothing there to set screen size, ive got about 1cm of a black line either side the playing video when in full screen.
All 4 edges of my screen are cut off no matter what aspect ratio I set my TV to...It's the outer edges like where the time would be and particularly a problem when there is a list on the left side. Any suggestions? (I have pics but can't post them due to forum rules)
My TV’s solution was with the Scan option. I turned it off and VOILA!

Thanks for the advice, the strange thing is I cannot find a setting for scan lines on my TV...the video section is pretty basic, just offering 3 resolution levels.
Still stumped...
Well, I've had some success with the second screen app, but in order to see my whole screen, I have to set it so low that the bottom icons shift to the side...
Hi all,
Lost my previous details to XDA so created another account quickly.
So I get my Essential Phone today and love it But like everyone else there are some complaints around full screen mode and screen not responding. Where the Essential Phone dev guys need to look into a disable full screen mode or snap in so the home bar stays at the bottom which might fix some of these issues.
I found something that might help some people. Helped me with the Walking Dead - Road to Survival Game. This is where you get annoying options in corners of the screens that doesn't quite respond! I found this related to the smallest width 'dp' value on the screen resolution.
So I enabled debugging mode and changed the value to 524. Played around with a few different dp values after reviewing what width dp values are for other smartphones and found this to work quite well for the game I play.
Might help some people that do really want to keep this phone!
I got some weird issues like I can't see the full picture on stories. Most of them unreadable becoz of my phone showing them out of frame.

Yep. It's because of an "odd" aspect ratio. It's been going on since at least when the S8 came out. I really don't expect a fix any time soon. They don't even care enough to make an iPad version of the app.
It will just get to the point that people edit stuff in their stories because everyone will have this problem.

Not since two days ago.
This happens with multiple phones.
The fix to this until Instagram goes ahead and supports different aspect ratios other than just 16:9 would be using this application : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sagar.screenshift2
Set Instagram to use the resolution as '1080 × 1920' in Per-App Profiles. Whenever you open Instagram, you'll see black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. But the stories won't be zoomed now - and you can ever post your photos/videos as stories in perfect size because the ratio has changed to 16:9 as per the resolution. :good:
Note : You must use gestures and not a navigation bar with this resolution. Navigation bar would need some different resolution, '1080 × {something that considers the navigation bar too}. Do not set '1080 × 1920' as default resolution (of course you wouldn't but if you did, you'll be in trouble!).
Also note : Sometimes, it doesn't work. Even if you come out of Instagram, it doesn't revert back to the previous resolution. Now that you're stuck in the application and due to no navigation bar and inaccessible gestures (because we need swipe from the bottom of the screen which is unusable in this new resolution), the only way to get out is swipe from the top to get the status bar, swipe down and again and go to settings from quick access. This should immediately change the resolution. If it doesn't, go ahead and turn on the navigation bar in settings. Press home on the navigation bar and you'll be back to the original resolution.
And : If your phone is locked and you get an Instagram message, your resolution will again change to '1080 × 1920'.
For OnePlus 6 Users : You could unlock it with your Fingerprint or Face Unlock but I guess if you got a PIN Lock, you won't be able to press '0' as it goes under the unusable area. Haven't tested it 'cause I have a 6T.
For OnePlus 6T Users : If Face Unlock isn't set up, forget about unlocking using your fingerprint. Your fingerprint scanner would be in the unusable bottom area of the screen. Now if you got a PIN (unsure about other locks) and you have '0' in it, you won't be able to unlock using the PIN too, 'cause again, '0' is not touchable. In such a situation, tap 'EMERGENCY' on the screen. This will definitely change the resolution to default and your whole screen would be usable. Go back and you have your fingerprint scanner and the '0' key too.
I've got the heck of it, I post and watch Instagram Stories without problems now!
