[Q] Some rooting questions - Droid Eris Android Development

Hey all!
I was thinking of rooting my eris, but after reading the forum some, I still have a couple questions about Eris rooting and rooting in general.
First off, if I use the one click root app, I will not have to install a new rom, correct? Also, how likely is it to brick my phone? If bricked, is there a method of restoring it?
Secondly, if I install the FroYo rom, would I be able to go back to the factory build of OTA 2.1? Or would I be stuck with custom roms then?
The only reason I am concerned with restoring the factory rom is that if something happens to the phone, I'd like my warranty to still be able to cover it (I'm 99% sure that they won't cover a rooted froyo thats overclocked).
Also, sorry if these have been asked before, I just wasn't able to find them on my own.

You need to ask these questions n the Q&A forum. This is a Dev forum and should only have questions relating to Roms and issues with custom roms.
Get ready for the dog pile.

Uh oh, my bad. I thought it was in the q&a...
Sorry guys, I'll see if I can delete it from the app and repost

Root, Roms and OTA Updates

Now that the slide has Root and an update, I have a question that may have been asked/answered in previous threads, forgive me in advance (I did a search and could not get an answer)...
Once rooted, will the slide still get the Froyo update?
Also if the phone has to go back for exchange/warranty, is there a way to flash it back to "Stock" as we did with the Samsung BHII?
TIA!
There is a nandroid backup of the stock rom available in the development section of the forum to revert back for warranty, not sure if froyo will goto a rooted slide, but I'm sure the devs will have a 2.2 rom out soon

Wait... There was an update?
This is the one thing keeping me from rooting.
Just back up your stock android rom before rooting so you can restore it. When you get to clockworkmod for the first time create a backup.

½anyone know where to get the RUU of the slide rom, not mixed and modified by a dev or cook?
but the origional rom or lastest version of it.
the nandroid backup will get you back to stock(ish) and if you're rooted with an aftermarket rom, you WILL NOT receive any updates from tmobile.. A couple days after release of the update, we'll have a rooted version, i can bet my right nut on it(and yes i do still have my right nut lol)
Guys... I don't play forum police or anything but the questions go in the q/a stickied thread or in general. The moderater already moved several threads like this today. Oh and when we do get an update... it will posted here after the proper mods have been made. You'll only have to wait a couple days and I'm sure that will be faster than you having to wait in line for your ota to be beamed to your handset. So go ahead and root it.. trust me! You'll be glad you did. Oh and if you get an ota... don't install it! Contact me or one of the other forum members. Or better yet post your news and we'll tell you the steps so we all can enjoy it.

Thanks bro for trying to keep people in line while I have been busy. and like you said this thread is now moved to QandA where it shouldve been posted.
Agreed... Sorry about that - just thought General was appropriate at the time.

Sorry, Have A few questions

Well quick background information. I acquired my first samsung continuum 3 weeks ago, bricked it, and had to return it and get another one.
So while i waited for my new phone to arrive in the mail i was reading thread after thread and tutorials and guides to the Android OS, Samsung Continumm, Kernels, ROMS, etc.
Once my phone arrived i had a whole bunch of knowledge about it and successfully Rooted it using SuperOneClick, Flashed CWM into it, and flashed the PeanutButterJelly kernel. Yes Without messing it up again.
Well here are my questions:
1) Where can i find the official adrynalyne's rom for the continuum(yes i used the search button but didnt have much luck.
2) Is there a continuum radio file posted somewhere in the forum? people were talking about it in the forum but nobody can tell me where it is.
3) Could I constantly keep flashing kernels and roms or is there a limit to how many times i can do that?
4) If there happens to be an update from verizon, will rooting, replacing kernels and roms, take away the ability to download it.
Sorry again for the random questions, and if you tell me to use the "Search" option can you at least let me know exactly what to type in so i can find the right answer. Thanks You.
And one more thing, What is your phone set up, as in:Kernel,Rom,any mods, battery saving apps, root-only apps.

more questions...
1. The ROM is located under the android development section of our forum.
Here's a link to the ROM though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943402
2. There is no radio file. There has been talk of it because we found out that the Fascinate radio files work with the continuum. We don't have our own though :'(
3. There is no limit besides the amount of ROMs and kernels you want to try.
4. Custom ROMs always in my experience disable the OTA updates that Verizon puts out. All you have to do though is revert back to stock and download the update if you truly want it.
Flashing ROMs and kernals will prevent you from being able to download any Verizon updates.

odd issue after upgrade

Hey guys i updated to 2.3.3
i thot my root was still good cause i can still install apps from sd..
so recently i downloaded root toolbox..
when i opened it it says please root device before use...
so googled 2.3.3 fascinate root..
i tried super one click no success..
so i found a tutorial that uses odin..
so it seemed to have worked but the phone did not stop rebooting?
so flash it back with factory ROM found on the same page of tutorial..all good..
tried to re install superuser..still the same?
is this version rootable or what??
Fascinate from telus 2.3.3 kernel 2.6.35.7-t959tlkg2
This can be answered with research.
Please refrain from posting questions in the General section. Use Q&A.

2.3 is rootable but the easiest method is just to flash an already rooted rom (such as pwgb) to your phone.
and yes, please take a minute to familiarize yourslf with the forum rules. Thank you.

[Q] Help?

Basically, my Phone is locked to T-Mobile UK and i would like to have an Android 2.3.4 Firmware version 4.5.91. But i cant figure out how!! I have posted a screenshot with my android version (about page) i would just like to know a forum or have the question answered here.

Questions should be in q&a forum... Try the development forum for how tos. Modding phone can be difficult. Atrix most probably most difficult of any device I've used b4. If u don't understand how to do stuff in noob post might be a good idea to stay with stock rom. ;-)
I believe loading a rom like CM7 would update your phone to the latest version. This is what happened when I loaded it onto mine. However, I'm not sure about UK phones.

Feeling lame for asking but 2.3.3 / 4.5.588 - root advice

Ive searched quite a bit, I know this phone is a bugger to root so I figure I would ask. I did have this droid x rooted nicely, running MIUI and some other nice ROMS... then one day things went horribly wrong. I did an update and from then on it wouldnt get past the bootloader unless I reverted to stock. I was a few days away from a Galaxy Nexus update so I didnt sweat it and have been using my Nexus ever since.
...But I keep seeing my DX, sitting there looking like a decent android device that just needs a little update to be turned into something useful. I've seen quite a few posts on Motorola tightening the strings on rooting so I was hoping for a little advice on getting root on my 2.3.3 / 4.5.588.
Thanks!
Check out the link below. Since you are on 4.5.588 I would suggest SBF to 4.5.602, then use D3 1 click root. The links are in the forum below. Just make sure you do not take any OTA's while on 602.
Once you are rooted then you can load any GB rom you want through CWM.
droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-development-hacking/35634-gb-602-root-start-here-links-all.html
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums (or General when there is no Q&A), not Development forums.
Thread moved.
