You can copy the backup to your computer, but you can go back to it just using Clockwork. No need to use Odin unless you REALLY mess us.

[Q] How to back up stock ROM before flashing a custom ROM

Hi guys,
This is probably a dumb question, but can someone point me to a tutorial on how to back up my stock ROM before I flash to a custom ROM? I do have clockwork recovery installed through Odin, I did follow the guide on installing Voodoo lagfix and I am running JT's 11/16 UV kernel on the stock ROM. Now I want to flash BlackHole or perhaps SuperClean, but I don't want to take any risks, and for some reason I haven't been able to find instructions on how to perform a backup. Do I just remove voodoo, boot into Clockwork from ROM Manager, and then make a backup?
Also, I guess I need instructions on how I would restore that backup if I needed to. I only see instructions on restoring a stock image using ODIN, but I want specifically the current state that I have right now (apps and everything) when I restore. Thanks!
Yes make sure you uninstall voodoo before creating a backup, voodoo does not play nice with clockwork. To restore a backup simply boot into recovery then select "backup and restore" then choose restore then choose which restore you would like. I loved voodoo at first and all of jt's work is great imo but I prefer geeknik's stupid fast kernels now just because I think they are just as fast and you don't have to deal with uninstalling voodoo...sorry for the rant...

[Q] So..I have a problem with going back to my factory rom

I need to make a warranty exchange, but if I send my phone in, and they see its rooted, Im going to get an out of warranty fee.
Its not letting me recover to my back up. Im completely lost as to what to do. I need to make it look like Ive never rooted my phone at all
You don't really expect to get much help with so little information, do you? What recovery and ROM do you have installed? How are you trying to go back to stock, a nandroid backup?
Sorry. Guess thats kind of important. lol
Recovery: 3.0.0.5
themed ice glacier 1.1.4
And form what the person who rooted my phone told me, that I now cant get a hold of, I just install from backup that he had originally made, when he flashed the rom. Sorry. I know Im a noob. Been extremely busy to actually learn. Go figure the guy whos been helping me, hasnt been answering his phone
CWM 3.0.0.5 can only flash Gingerbread ROMs, and the stock image you're trying to restore is a Froyo ROM. All you need to do is switch to CWM 3.0.0.6 and you can successfully revert back to stock.
1. Go here to install this CWM version, which will allow you to flash 3.0.0.6 and older CWM, which you need to go back to stock nandroid restore (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681).
2. Go here for how to restore stock nandroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845756). Make sure you flash older CWM recovery when restoring stock nandroid. After restoring, you can follow thread and instructions to turn S-on again.

You do not need to use any recovery other than 3.0.0.6 to restore the stock nandroid image.
Awesome. Thanks man. Time to go bleed magenta. Hahaha

Can i backup my official samsung rom?

I have the international i9500 and i wanna install a custom rom (AOKP to be exact)
now my question is can i backup the official samsung rom and then return to it using recovery?
if i can so which recovery should i use? (CWM or TWRP)
i'm asking that because i couldn't backup the official samsung rom on any other device i had (S1 and S2 i9100) but maybe i did something wrong!
Anyone?

Afaik I don't think you can literally backup any ROM. U have to have a flashable copy of it be it .tar or .zip and just backup apps

You can try to backup in newest CWM.

You can do this from both type of recovery. Take backup on external sd card and save it to some where on HDD.
Yes flash a custom recovery (cwm etc) and backup from within there. If you ever need to reinstall, restore it also from cwm recovery and flash stock recovery and that's it. Burn to fully stock.

I think yes.. you can back up.. (maybe Im not sure with this one)
But before restoring your back up from stock and you are coming from aokp make sure that you flash first stock rom in odin to avoid problems..
The answer is No, you can't back up your stock unrooted rom.
You can however root it, install a custom recovery and backup the rooted rom on your phone. You will need to check if it was backed up on your internal drive 1st before flashing as you will loose it if you wipe the data on your phone.
You can also go to Sammobile.com and see if they have your rom there. Go to the firmware part then check your firmware at the top . It will ask you for you device (I9500) and country then give you the latest firmware available. You will need to register to download these roms...

You don't have to be rooted to flash / use a custom recovery. Therefore he can backup without rooting his device.
I did it myself before I rooted / customised my stock rom.

After rooting, I backup my stock rom to a external card before I start messing around. Just restore using CWM when u have a corrupted S4.

Flashing stock rom.
Bro, are you trying to flash back to stock Samsung ROM? if so just google the Model number of your phone followed by stock rom
EG: GT-i9500 Stock ROM.
Okay then Put it onto your SD Card (extSD or intSD) and flash the rom the way you normally would
But next time Do this then you can revert instantly:
1.)Download a APPLICATION BACKUP APPLICATION ie:Titanium Backup
NB: DO THIS WHILST ON STOCK ROM!
Enter recovery Mode (im using CWM in this instance)
2.)Scroll down to "backup and restore"
3.)Enter and select "backup"
NOW YOUR ROM IS BACKED UP (WITHOUT APPS (HENCE WHY WE DOWNLOADED A BACKUP UTILITY))
4.)Next time just backup and restore from that backup you made and install the apps you had using your backup utility
Enjoy your day, Hope this helped!

[Q] Do I need to backup to flash a new custom recovery?

I have ClockWork currently, but want to get TWRP. Do I need to back up? And if so, how will I? Because i cant make a ClockWork backup if I am switching to a new recovery.
No backup needed. If you want to revert back to CWM later just download and flash the latest.
