EnergyROM settings exporter in different roms? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Is there a cab that I could use to install Energy's Settings Exporter into another ROM to experiment with, or is it closed source?
If so, is there a way to automate the same process (exporting those specific keys and restoring them with XDA_UC later on)?
Thanks!

That is an NRG program, he made it, so you could PM him to see if he will make a cab.
But basically all it does is store certain registry branches, and then restore them.

I'll try a PM.
I know how I could identify the registry entries, is there a way to automate the process like he did though, if he doesn't have a cab? Possibly using a script or something?
Thanks!

Question about uninstalling trial software

I have been using a small utility to SHOWS MY PHONE NUMBER on the today screen AND SWITCH SIMS. The utility has a 15 day trial. This software was "modded" to work in WM5. The official version only works in 2003SE. While it works OK in WM5, there are many bugs. Unfortunately, the company no longer is working on this utility, so no WM5 compatibility.
What I did was install the utility. The 15 days counts down. After 15 days it stops working. Very normal.
Because I need this utility, I want to install and reinstall it. Here is what I tried to do:
1) I installed a clean ROM. Made a registry backup using SKTools right away.
2) Installed utility
3) When 15 days is up, I uninstall
4) Tried restore original registry using SKTools
5) Reinstall utility
Unfortunately, the utility is still expired. How can this be? Normally, a program puts "keys" in the registry to indicate status. If I restore the registry to before the utility was ever installed, all traces of the utility SHOULD BE gone. What else can the utility be reading that is not unstalled? Another registry somewhere? Am I missing something?
Please help because I do use this and would buy it if it was ever made to work with WM5 by the developer. Until then I have to find a work around.
Thanks for any help.
Could the begining date from which the countdown started have been imbedded in the software at the time of the download from the website to your PC?

I don't think so, because if I flash a new ROM and install the software, it goes back to 15 days trial. I don't want to reflash my ROM every 15 days. So it must be reading the original install date from somewhere other than the registry. Any ideas where?

You only need to make a WinDiff comparison - or, use SKTracker. I've published a complete tutorial on this: http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=215073
Nevertheless, it's not only the Registry that can hold such files / info, but als the file system (mostly under \Windows) and the WinCE databases.

Sure you can - just keep track of what has been changed upon installation / first start. SKTracker is an excellent tool in this respect.

Improve FM Radio Library Build 103.816

I think this FM Radio is improved as far as reception concerned. Less interference noticed overall. Back up the current library (just in case you don't like this one) from the Windows directory and replace it with the files in the zip.
Where does it come from ?

use total commander or resco explorer. Either will over-write the libraries.
It would be great to make a cab file out of it. Could anybody help with it?

That depends - what are all the needed Registry entries ? It's simple enough to have all the files in the zip CAB'd to install in \Windows, but are there Registry entries needed beyond these ?
i tried it yesterday.Copy all files in Windows folder with resco, check version and see version number is ok.I listened to radio all night and havent a problem

This library is complete. You can unzip it to the storage card, tap on the FM Radio.exe and it will work. I believe we need a cab maker. That type of program writes everything into the registry during the installation.
Thanks. I will try this one tonight ... ;-)

The PDAViet rom also has version 1211.721 which also has better reception than the one on the stock rom. Now I can use my favourite headset which had poor reception, maybe due to shorter length than some crappy one I had

Doesn't work on my Cruise. Stock ROM. The App doesn't want to start.
Neither the cab not the zip works. I thought that my sprite backup would have the original Files from the rom,it does not. Does anyone have the stock radio files to get my radio working again?
TIA!
EDIT: It looks like I have lost the ability to launch the radio app. At this point, I really don't want to do a hard reset. Don't apply this update unless you are willing to lose this function.

The CAB can only be installed if you turn certification off.

Yes, I know that - it was the point of my post.
But what I asked is: "Are there any other Registry entries that need updating ?"
The answer seems to be - apparently not, since another post reported it as working by just copying the unzipped files into \Windows ... but other posts reported this as not working.
Generating a CAB is easy of course, making sure it actually works may be harder.

The FM Radio I posted is better than the PDAViet's one. I have less interference or static after I upgraded to it. I am on PDAViets's 06 build and I get a clear and crisp signal off the stations I had the crappy static with the original build.
And YES, you got to have the security policies changed in order to overwrite some files in the Windows directory. Search for the SDA Application unlocker. That should fix the problem with upgrading.
In my first post I mentioned about backing up the original files. If you happened to fail doing so, try to find Dutty's FM Radio cab.
Thank you!

Restore Original Pop Out Scroll Bar

Hi Guys,
I'm using the Dusk theme and bars etc.. Once I'd installed I noticed that the Pop Out scroll bar had vanished. This I thought was an extremeeeeeely useful setting....
So I hard reset and dumped the today reg from HKCU, after a little messing about figured that I'd just import the reg keys from the original settings. Here are the keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\ScrollBar]
"ScrollBarThumbThemeImage"="\\Windows\\HTCblack_scrollbarThumb.png"

I'm sure there is a genius in here that could turn this into a cab. Otherwise, copy the text save in a text file add "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" as the first line of the text file.
Rename as a .reg file. Import with your preferred reg tool.
In recent posts I've been berated for my efforts to help. I'm no genius, but I have tried this and it's working on my o2 device.
BACKUP BEFORE TRYING. EITHER THE REG ENTRIES OR THE ENTIRE DEVICE
Hope this helps someone
remove .txt from the attached file.
BIG Thanks to johncmolyneux for the cab.
It doesn't work for me. I changed the theme to one of the other pre-installed ones and set the registry values as described above, but there was no change (after a soft reset).
I have made a cab file, but I'm not gonna upload it till we know why it didn't work and I've fixed it.
Did you import all of the values or change a few?
I tried the change a few initially and all I got was the original original (i.e.wm5) scrollbar.
When I imported the file in the first post it worked. These were the only changes that I'd made.
Do you have the original ROM?
The Pop out images are in the windows directory named "01THUMBxxx"

The Dusk theme isn't one of the pre-installed themes is it? Did you try it with one of them?
I didn't..... I only used the HTCBlack theme (Which I think it set by default).
I therefore also don't know if the Pop Out Bar is present in the other themes.
I'm going to do a backup and try another theme.

I just read it from the screen - it's the simplest way to then recreate the structure in Visual Studio. I've already had spaces in my posts before now, so I was aware of that issue.

Yup. And don't even think about backing your current registry up to use it on a different build or you will be forced to reflash/hard reset. You could, however make a provisioning xml cab with registry settings, cab it, and run it post flash.
Also, you can make a back up in case you decide to go back to this rom. PHM Regedit can do this for you.

help..... how to dump my hd2 rom so I can flash it later.

Check the Energy ROM thread. There is some talk of it in post #5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
i did it with my o2 rom just to see how to do it, but in all honesty i won't be doing it again. No point when the rom is available to download, and it doesnt save settings anyway. Ive posted teh how-to just because you asked about 'dumping the rom' so it will no doubt get hits from epople wanting to know how, and not just people like you wanting to backup, not dump.
dump the .raw partitions, reading step one in THIS first post will help.
Then set up ervius visual kitchen and use the 'raws2nbh' function to rebuild the raw files into the .nbh rom file.
BUT, it wont save your rom as it is now, with all your settings and such, it will only dump the rom as it was when you first ran the phone.
Far easier to just download the stock rom from somewhere.
Plus the rom you create even though it is stock will still be seen as a cooked rom by teh phone, so you would need hspl installed to flash it.
So, you need to look more into backup software, like sprite backup, PIm backup, or sashimi/makisu, or the like.
thanks very much. I guess I stick with backing up the settings and flashing the stock rom... thanks for the feedback again... ps: the point was to have the rom just how out was when dumped...

Yea, i know what you mean.
I found a cooked rom that i liked, and the chef also offered the kitchen with it. (which means i run the kitchen, press 'build' and fifteen minutes later the rom is created, ready to flash.)
Then, knowing i have a rom that i already like, i can start to make small adjustments. Progs that i normally have to reinstal every time i have converted to cookable packages, various registry tweaks that i used to instal from cab every time i have now cooked in.
A great way to get an easy intro into cooking, but because it's already built you aren't starting from a stock rom, facing weeks of tweaks. Instead i know i already like the rom, and i can slowly apply extra tweaks as i learn.
Look out for rom threads who offer 'comes with kitchen'.
ChuckyROM is the one that comes to mind, but there are others too.
I now have cookies home tab mod pre installed, and right from the start it has my layout, and all my quicklinks already there, as well as most of teh cabs i used to instal manually already built in, owner name pre set, home location/timezone etc etc all pre set, my own lockscreen, i've removed tons of unused images and language files, and such like.
My rom is down to around 145MB. (Stock is around 200MB+).
Best of all, i cooked in 'remotetracker', so if my phone gets stolen/lost, , even a hard reset wont stop it being trackable.
Fun stuff, if you dont mind spending a few hours at a time cooking/flashing/re-cooking/flashing/re-re-cooking, , , hehe

well its not that simple. when a chef cooks the rom, it is usually protected, so you cant just dump a cooked rom. Thats why you have to get a pre built kitchen for that rom.
Sadly there is no simple step by step for all this.
THIS thread is for OSKitchen, which is pretty good, and fairly straightforward.
I suggest you just get a kitchen, dump a stock rom into it, and just have a look around it for a while first, so you get the idea of what you are facing.
Follow posts 1 - 4 and that should give you an evenings tinkering to get started.
Or there is ervius' visual kitchen, which isn't quite so straight forward, but works really well for me.
Reading HERE and HERE and HERE
and lots of reading in 'Chef Central'
However, to get immediate results, i found it far better to start with a pre built kitchen.
HERE is the one i first started to tinker with.
I gave up on kitchens a half dozen times in the past months, it just seems so overwhelming, which is why a ready made rom i could make minor tweaks to came in so handy.
thanks allot, I'm going to get to it right away. I'll post if I hit a wall.

convert it to an ext package, which will generate a folder with various files/subfiles, one of which is a reg file, edit that, add your registry entries (extracted from your currently running phone, using ceregistry editor ((if you dont already have them, immediately you finish reading this go get wincecab manager, ceregistry editor, and look up CAB_Converter too.)))
Use cab converter to change the cab into an ext.
as always, the best advice is to read everything, then read it again, hehe.
A working example.
connect your phone to usb, open ceregistry editor, click connect, browse to HKLM\software\HTC\manila\Home There are 80 or so numbered folders, Thats for the quicklinks.
In the tree view on the left, right click the folder Home and choose 'export'. A file save dialog will open, call it something like home, OK. You should get something like '81 keys exported'
Now, browse to the folder where the converted cookies EXT is, find the file 'app.reg'. Double click to open it in ceregistry editor, you will see a similar registry view as you saw on the phone, except with loads less entries. Find HKLM\software\HTC\manila\Home, select the home folder, hit delete, confirm, its now gone.
Go to top of ceregistry editor - hit Edit - Import registry keys from file.
Now, by default it will be looking for .reg files, but we exported ours as .cereg, so change the filetype dropdown to 'all files'.
Find your 'home.cereg' file we exported, click it, you will get a 'sucessfully imported,....blahblah', hit save, and now, when you cook the rom, your quicklinks will already be there as soon as the phone first boots.

sure you want to bother? it wont save your settings as they are now, so you are essentially dumping the stock rom as it was when you got the phone (Assuming you're running a stock rom that is, if its a cooked rom it probably wont convert anyway)
All (most) of teh stock roms are available to download, so its an accademic task only, , , ,

hehe, well, ive only done it once, so you know as much as me, , get ervius vis kitchen (im sure other kitchens can do it too, just i use evk) click extra buttons, top left button is raws2nbh, follow the prompts.
You dont need to do this to cook, you know that? the kitchen will import a downloaded stock nbh, no need for the dump to get a kutchen working.
