Just downloaded update and seems lot closer now to look like the iPhone one. I don't use Facebook app much so anybody notice any major differences since last one?
yep.. it auto updated this morning for me.. and its much nicer feel to it.. also like the little photo slider at the bottom.
wish they would implement facebook chat though
Much better, only thing I miss is to see who liked smth, option to slide to next picture when viewing pictures(it is so stupid to me to touch next and previous button) and chat

FB chat through the AIM client seems to work fine for me. But yes, it would be nice if we didn't have to run another app alongside the proper FB one.
Has anyone tried syncing contacts through Facebook rather than Facebook for HTC Sense? Since this update I have two Facebook accounts in the Accounts and Sync settings. If I try to use the new one it doesn't seem to work. It offers a new contact link but doesn't have pictures or anything attached to it.

while we wait for them to put chat on the app in the mean time download go chat the ui is good it looks like google talk
I can't believe items in the notification menu still take you to the mobile version of the site in your browser and don't stay within the app.
Apart from that, I like it.
Partial Wake usage withe the new 1.3 client
Check the "Partial Wake Usage" (*#*#4636#*#*): with Facebook client 1.3, no contact sync and autoupdate on "never" i have 100% usage (on facebook app)
A definite improvement... wish they'd change the horrible icon though.

Yep, I've just uninstalled the update.
Would this be because of the 'new notification implementation'? I did, for the first time ever, actually receive a notification whilst I had it installed!
It's using way to much of the cpu, too bad since I really liked the update but I need to uninstall it aswell Battery is more important!
Do people think a fix will come out for this? Surely this is an error, it uses way too much battery!

It has to be some sort of unforeseen thing. I would hope to see an update to fix this soon.
Mind you, I'm not overly impressed with the new features- was expected something far bigger and better.
I just wished, they can have a widget like the one on iphone where it displays the notifications on a corner.

Thank god I now know why my phone as gone from 100% to 0% in the space of 6 hrs.
Thought it was the Froyo update but can see now it looks like it's this new update.
Has anybody emailed them yet to inform them of the excessive battery increase?
Yes I have already mailed the developer

I installed it when I first saw that the 1.3 was released and I haven't noticed any difference what so ever on my battery usage. I don't use any taskkiller so I haven't killed it of.
is there any fix for the battery-usage-of-death issue ?
Just a heads up, with the new Facebook app my phone is not sleeping. When I log out of the app the phone does sleep when the screen is off. I'm running Baked Snack 1.1. I'm curious to see if it's just me, or if others are having the same issue.
Yep, I have noticed that as well. I mentioned it in the "There is a NEW FACEBOOK APP" (paraphrased) thread.
i installed it last night and this morning it i checked spare parts for partial wake items and facebook app was the highest, near 30%
i went into the facebook app and changed the update frequency; hopefully that'll fix it

Ok good to know. Hopefully if enough people are having the issue Facebook will do an update to correct the problem.
I'm on the leaked .3 Rom and mines working fine, have you tried doing a restart and clearing the facebook cache?

Yeah when I reboot the phone it can go back to sleep, but if I log in to the Facebook app and back out it won't go back to sleep. Once I actually log out of Facebook the phone can sleep again.

Have you tried killing it in something like System Panel?
Just checked Autostarts, and Facebook isn't set to start on any occasion other than your account settings being changed and the widget updating. Of course I have the refresh for notifications off, but it should never start itself.

If you have the widget on a homescreen it just reloads the service in short order. That and you really shouldn't have to kill something like Facebook to keep it from causing sleep issues, I understand it on "chat" apps (eBuddy, etc.), but not in a periodically updated app like Facebook. Seems like a bug to me.

I've killed it with Advanced Task Killer... It just fires itself right back up.

I was just seeing if it would stay off or if it was starting itself back up. I updated my post with its start permissions.

I figured that that was the case. For whatever reason, it wants to start itself though. I have my updates set to "never" and notifications set to "off" now (just had the updates set to never before, still had notifications set to "on") Charging right now, so I can't check my partial wakes, but will update to see if that makes any difference.
Killing the app doesn't work work for me. I have to sign out of the app for it to stop killing the battery.

Same problem here, if I reboot the phone it doesnt start and everything is fine, once i launch it the first time it will perpetually keep the phone from sleeping, BS1.1
just force closed it and removed the widget. it doesn't start up again either after doing all that. stupid thing.. i knew something was not right about my battery today.
I'm running CM6's latest nightly and i'm not having any issues like this with updated facebook app. I have refresh interval set at 1 hour with notifications active

go to spare parts and select "partial wake usage" in battery history. you'll notice the fb app has been on since you first checked it, keeping your phone from sleeping.

yea, it's funny though, i remember htc releasing an update that fixed battery issues with fb syncing. i wonder if it's something similar to that now, what with contact syncing enabled again. maybe i'll try it without contact syncing and see how it goes.
I have struggled with horrible battery life. I tried everything from roms, radios, setcpu, registry tweaks, all builds on this site and still couldnt pull much more out of my battery.
I ran across an app yesterday while digging through some articles looking for a battery miracle and found an app on the market called tasker. It is an automated tasking app that allows you to set different variations for anything you could imagine on your phone.
I have only scratched the surface with what it can do. The link below has a simple GPS setup to get started.
It enables you to turn on a certain function (WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth) when you open an app and then allows you to close it once the app closes. No more forgetting to use the power control widget!
Hopefully this thread can evolve with suggestions and other setups to help save more battery!
Today I was able to get 13 heavy usage hours out of my phone. Before this I was in the neighborhood of 8-10 depending on usage.
Any suggestions or new scenarios appreciated.
Hope this helps!

Absolutly correct, nearly the greatest program I have seen for android...
Isn't it a paid app?
Yes it's is. See : http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
There a direct Purchase form the author site that is cheaper from The Market

Does Tasker support turning on/off 3G? I.E. could I set it to turn off 3G ad drop to EDGE when the screen is off, thus saving battery?
yeah.. it works awesome.. so many settings to config up.. endless combinations lol..
good stuff dude!
3g
Fmstrat
Yes, you can set it to turn off everything when you turn the sreen off.
To do this go into tasker
Add new
Click Event
Click Display
Click Display off
Click Done
Click Plus sign in bottom left corner
Tap Net
Tap Mobile Data with the gear beside it
So the same thing but in reverse for Display on!
Along with this you can set a time profile to check turn on data every X minutes to grab your emails
New Time
00:00 to 23:59
repeat every x mins
add task mobile data on
It dues shut off APN completely however, I dont think there is a way, yet, to just shut off 3g. If anyone know a way please add it.
Hope this Help!
Looking for help with a profile
Need some help from the community.
I am trying to set up a profile that will work as follows:
Screen off > Kill all tasks using ATK
If I choose it as an app it loads the app but doesn't kill anything. This would be a great battery saver.
Anyone?
This looks like an excellent app.
Just a quick question (I've only ever installed free apps from the market )
If I pay for this app and validate/register it online using a Desire based android build, but then subsequently load a different build (maybe a nexus based one) will the app still install and work correctly?
Or will the app be seen as being transferred to another phone and refuse to work?
Thanks for any advice
Guys,
Please don't post warez or links to warez (see XDA rules).
Thanks

Someone please take this idea. Charge money for it, make it for free- it doesn't matter to me. What I cannot believe has never been made is a chat widget. Just imagine the Handscent widget but for gtalk/aim/msn/yahoo.
I'm so surprised it hasn't been made. I would actually pay for this app. Anyone interested in developing it?
Sounds like a potential battery drainer. But it's a great idea.

Meebo? imo instant messenger? eBuddy Messenger?
Don't know if thats exactly what youre looking for.
I think he is looking for a homescreen widget that updates every user defined time and allows the person to chat via MSN, Facebook, ect. ect. directly from the homescreen. Sounds like a great idea.
Edit:
This would most likely drain a lot of battery very quickly because the point of chat is to recieve messages instanly, hence INSTANT messenger. To make this into a widget the developer would have to set the widgets onUpdate() method to update every second or less to make it seem instant. Now a work around would be to have the user set the desired time to say 5 seconds or 10 seconds. Doing that would seem "instant" but you could notice some signifigant lag in recieve messages if you set the update time parameters to high, say 30 - 90 seconds.

Having it refresh once a minute wouldn't be bad. Would a dev be able to try this? These guys are smarter than I am, I'm sure someone could find a way to make it happen and not kill battery life.

Trillian for android has a widget, really? I tried beta when it first came out. Are you sure it has a widget?
Trillian doesn't have a widget! Bah, you got my hopes up.
Well, Trillian does have an API, not sure if this is true for the Java/Android version of their client just yet. However, if they do support it on Android, there is nothing to stop someone writing a plugin that communicates with a widget ;-)

Hey there,
yesterday i was searching around the web cause of my battery drain (my hd2 was empty in <1 day).
Then i found an market app: Battery FU
What does it do? It simply disables mobile data connection, when the hd2 is in standby. after wake up the phone, the network is connecting.
now i lost 4-5% of my battery in ~4h in normal use.
Thats great!
Give it a try and post your experience.

+1, Agree.
Why should my HD2 update the latests news all the time, when i just look every 1-2h on it? Makes no sense for me.

Definitely +1 for that. I rely on my emails too much to have to manually update them every 15 mins, but it does sound like for some it could be really good.
