How can i test the front camera?
Installed Fring already, but cannot find the setting to switch to front camera.
Any other free app can let me test the front camera?>
Thanks
Yes, standard camera app. On shooting mode select "Self shot"
I noticed the same issue with fring. I am assuming they are going to release an update for it with an option to switch between cameras.

Yeah I actually contacted Fring support about it, they were not aware of the bug until I told them, they are supposedly working on a fix.

Start your camera program, and in the menu, you'll see a button called Camera. (like in the picture that monx showed). Pressing this button allows you to switch between the front and back cameras.
Bear in mind that the front camera is not as good as the back camera.
Front camera
Unfortunately the button is blank and there is no reaction if pressed
I had a Niki with the front camera problem... the camera is phisically there, but there is no way to activate it... gotta send it to HTC in order to fix it
So its an hardware problem??
I have exactly same problem. Cant change between cameras and using videocall nobody sees me.
I remember using another ROM and use that camera...
WHO CAN HELP UP, THE FRONT CAMERA PROBLEM!
CAN NOT SWITCH, EVEN CAN NOT USE DURING THE VIDEO CALL

I had that option a long time ago to swith cameras. No I've downgraded to the ROM, Radio and HardSPL I had when I was able to do video calls, and that option is not there anymore.
I think it's an hardware problem. Nothing to do. Got to send my nike to HTC. And for sure its not cheap.
once I just fixed the problem, but after some days, it came back again.
so i do not suppose that it is a hard ware problem.
The most important the place I live in there is no such service
Idk if this was ever talked about but I want to know.... Has anyone ever thought about a way to fix the front facing camera image? you know, it shows everything backwards or reversed?
mine's working fine never noticed anything flipped
I never noticed it until someone mentioned it here. So I checked it, and sure enough, everything is reversed.
Just like a webcam. Shows YOU as others would see you. The right side of your face would be on the left side if you were facing yourself.
But if you take a pic, it should not be backwards.
And why wouldn't it be? it's taking a snap of what you see on the screen.
Remember, the front was designed as a video chat device, hence the "reversed" image, not for taking snapshots of you and other things.
You have a better camera for that which behaves as it should.
Front cam functions as designed.

That makes no sense.
EDIT: read up on it.
Compusmurf is clueless. The front camera in reverse is for easy centering of your own face - it behaves like a mirror.

That's where you're wrong... what you see from the front camera is a MIRROR image. NOT what others would see if they are looking at you. And for the record, most webcam applications allow you to switch between mirror image or "normal".
So in other words, there's no fix currently
as others would see you? easier for centering?
What you meant was, as other people would see you if they were looking at you in their rear view mirror, or in another mirror, not how they would normally see you. Im wondering if you guys have ever used a web cam. Ive been using them since they hit the market long ago and ive never seen a mirrored image of someone unless they flipped it with their cam software. And having the image reversed doesn't make it any easier to center yourself either lol. Good try guys. Its a setting in the camera config once you switch to the front facing camera on the thunderbolt.
Delete please

1. Dial *#34971539#
2. Select second option called Phone to CAM FW Write (Rear) and update your camera if isnt updated. If you have it grey, forget it.
3. Latest option is change the front camera. You have a very nice guide for fix it -> HERE

You have any source for the "upgrade camera fix"?
And replacing the front facing camera is not an option, the camera works just fine, it has to be a software bug.
Edit:
I tested what you said, updating the camera and it worked! Thank you so much!
Edit 2:
Nevermind, the bug is still there...

So my girlfriend's i9505 front facing camera is acting wierd. I think it happened when she upgrated to 4.3.
When using any effect with the front camera, the picture gets way too dark and you can mostly only see shapes. When you enable the "dual camera feature" and then disable it the camera gets normal again, but as soon as you change effect or re-open the front camera it gets dark again.
This doesn't happen with the rear camera though. If you select an effect with the rear camera and then switch to front camera, the pic is normal. But as soon as the problem appears, it stays there even if you switch cameras, and you have to close the camera app to get it normal again.
It's really wierd, I've wiped Camera data, wiped cache through recovery (stock rom/recovery, non-rooted), and I even did a factory reset but nothing, the bug is there.
Anyone else facing the same problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you figure out how to fix it?
Nope, haven't found much about it..
I'm sure I'm not the only one that uses Snapchat so I have to ask if anyone else is having these issues.
1. Does your front Flash work on Snapchat? Mine never has.
2. Does the rear Flash work on snap chat? Mine flashes but does not stay on.
3. Does the Camera switch feature work? You know when you start in one camera and switch to the other one.
Any one else having these issues? I'm trying to decipher if it is my phone or the phone in general.

#1 - front flash for me just lights up the screen to imitate a flash.
#2 mine will stay on for the picture
#3 yes, i can switch mine from back to front with no issues.

So I'm guessing I'm having hardware issues then. And on number 3, I'm talking about the feature where you start recording on one and switch to the other.

I think the problems are specific to snapchat. Frontal flash doesn't work (it turns the screen white before you take the picture), rear flash works but stays on like a goddamn flashlight even if i close the app, and i've never been able to switch cameras in video. but frontal flash works as a charm on the camera app so snapchat is the real problem.
Snapchat would have to specifically integrate Moto's api's and whatnot to get front flash running. It's doubtful they'd devote programming hours to making this one feature work on our phone (esp. since it's not a flagship Sammy or iPhone). I've not seen any android that can do the video camera flip so it might be just an iPhone thing?
Anyone else having issues getting Camera unavailable? I can use third party camera apps and access both rear cameras.
But if I use the stock one and switch to the rear camera I get "Camera Error" Camera Unavailable.
I also had that today for the stock video but trying a second time it worked.
Yea mine just keeps doing it over and over, OpenCamera runs both cameras just fine, but doesn't see the front camera lol, front camera works fine and non-wide rear works fine on stock app.
I tried to run a full KDZ reset, but it doesn't let me refurbish, only upgrade, so if there is something wrong with the files in there, I fear they may not have been fixed.
Have you tried uninstalling OpenCamera and see if it goes away? I had this happen on an older phone, after a reboot it would work, come to find out, another app was holding the camera open
Yea I've tried using a fully reset phone, after digging more it looks like if the camera is in "Selfie Mode" the rear cameras work, but it's like if the selfie camera is no longer being detected by anything.
