[Q] Which is the easiest way to perm root my g2???

Could someone tell me which is the easiest way to do it and how....also i want to know how install cm after i root my g2 ..... I'm new help me please
I'd say the easiest way to do it is to follow the video guide by blackprince. As for CM I haven't done it myself yet cause I'm waiting for the stable release.

visionary tool by paul.
two clicks via an app and thats it.
Don't know much about the permaroot from visionary, but I did the original method with adb and visionary. Honestly, you only need to type like 3 lines, so any method would be easy imo. have fun!

Yeah this was the way I did it. It worked on the very first try. Since you're new you should learn to use adb. Search the forum or google adb to learn.

Should I root?

To root or not to root that is the question. If I do I can always unroot as simple as I root I believe. If I don't I will never get the performance I want out of my phone with custom ROM's and Kernals. Members on here I'm sure would be will to help me through the process. I've read some articles on how to do it and it seems fairly simple. I am tech savvy but not phone tech savvy but I do follow directions and understand them. Feedback would be appreciated on whether I should root or not.

Definitely ROOT!!! Missing the some of the best stuff like roms, kernals,No ADS, Free wired and wireless tether or mobile ap which is free infrastructure tethering on stock rom rooted with custome kernal.
Plus if u need to return it you can easily unroot.
Do at your own risk though.
However very hard to mess up your phone.
Root and Recovery
Freaking awesome guide. Do it.
Thanks I will definitely read away with aspirations on rooting. I do know it's at my own risk too and from what I have researched it is pretty hard to brick your phone.

That link I provided is to a wonderful script and the creators (Drockstar and noobnl) are both generally available on irc in #samsung-epic to offer any support you need. Great guys.

I did and I personally like CPU Tuner. Lets you set profiles for battery levels as well as controlling how your phone acts when the screen is off (for batt management).
I only root for AdFree Android. That, Cache Cleaner and Root Explorer. Otherwise I wouldn't need it.
Successfully rooted with cwd installed on first try. Thanks guys you've all been a great help. Now I need to learn more about custom roms.

[Q] Trying to root on mac...

Trying to root my epic on my mac and cant seem to find anything that really seems to work, I am really starting to doubt my own intelligence at this point and really don't want to screw up my new phone....any help or a rooting for morons walkthrough would be helpful, thanks so, so much!
you could always run windows virtualized on your mac and do it that way

it worked, thank you so much, i dont know why i couldnt find that before, thanks a lot!
You could have also used an app called z4root.
You are welcome. It can be difficult to find info in the forum but that is the link I used to root my epic back in April and I had the linked stored so it was easy to send it your way.
Z4root works if you just want root but if you want to install custom roms you need clockwork. The link I have allows you to root and instal clockwork.

There is no easy way as in a one click root... If you search... most of the methods discussed here depend on which version of the hboot and if you OTA or not.. but they all lead to the same rooting method...
1. Downgrade your version
2. root
3 . flash with any custom rom or the official rooted rom

The unlockr has a nifty guide that takes you through everything. Yes, it isn't short. And yes, there were points I got stuck and searched for answers (most were in the comments to that page) but it's possible.
