Hello all. The same people that opened up the Athena device, worked out numerous unlockers for many many devices and are now working on the newly released Polaris device are offering up our team and skills. Only problem is we have no devices to develop on. What we did on the Athena project was raise enough money from donations for 4 devices. There was an overwhelming response and the results were a fully unlocked device and customized ROMs. We also took it a step further and made things possible that were not in the original release of the device. If you guys are interested we can start-up a similar project. Up to you guys, the community.
Of course it's not necessary to start up such a project. I'm sure a developer will eventually purchase a device and do something with it. Time will tell.
Goals of proposed project:
- Unlock device
- Expand WM6 capabilities
- Remove as many limitations on device as possible
- IF possible, add phone and GPS capabilities
- Cooked ROMs
Hey Itxda,
I'm currently trying to get a job around the Shift .. but I have to wait for septembre (if the project is not refused) and in this case, I could make a Master Thesis upon the Shift and many abilities that comes with it.
I'm trying to get the shift the soonest as possible and as soon as I will have it, I will start developing the most I can (Cooked ROMs, Expand WM6 capabilities are the MOST important for me).
I'd love to work with XDA developers but as I'm from Belgium it is not currently easy .. and I don't even know if the Shift is "really" released here.
What can be "nice" should be a collaboration between Shift users and XDA developers. I think that Expand WM6 is the first goal to reach .. and I'm sure that we will find how to get FULL WM6 !
seems that Expand WM6 capabailities are OK now YESSSSSSSS
pls. let me know how can I turn it too full WM6system. I bought Htc Shift. and after then I found, it has no full WM6 system? Why? pls help me. I am biginner in system and registry problem, pls write it step by step. thx.
p.s. i am very glad, super device.

Thanks for your response.
That's basically how we all did it on the Athena Project. Established a few goals, outlined the details then kicked some butt.
The Athena, being the monster she is...now runs more stable, faster and has the latest and greatest. You guys might want to look over at the Athena forum to see how the project did. We started at v1.0. Everyone loved it. Went on to 2.0 and 3.0. Now we're working on 4.0 which is going to be a nice surprise for everyone.
We'll see if anyone else is interested. For now I'm more than happy with my Athena but if people want to move forward we can get things going. Just want to know if it's something that's wanted.
Shift is a nice toy but damn HTC for what they did to the WM side. I have no idea what they were thinking here.

I wish I could just give you the how-to but it's not that simple. HTC did some pretty nasty things within this wonderful device and it'll take some serious hacking around and time to get things unlocked then working. We're not sure what the extent is, yet, to the full capabilities but if the community wants to move forward with the project, we can setup a PayPal account to start the donations and essentially repeat the enormous success accomplished under the Athena project.
Like I said, IF it's even possible...our team can get it done. Just another toy that needs to be shaped into a work of art
O.K. I would like. pls do it. thnx.

Ok, that's two yes answers. Let's see what others have to say. Be back later, stepping out.
personally i think the shift is just begging to be hacked! i'm part of the athena project and would help in shift project too.
now that it's revealed how to access \Windows and file explorer, the next step will be creating a virtual USB connection to the vista side (this is possible!), then you can use activesync and can flash roms too, and we (with Olipro) can make hard-SPL and even simunlocker if there is a simlocked version of the shift.
the WM side of course needs a properly cooked rom, put the functionality and apps back and customizations. and of course we need to enable lots of hardware, i'm sure at least part of that can be managed (from SD and wifi to phone and GPS).
i can't wait to start hacking on this but first a device is needed.
im all for it as well
Count me in
I am in, let's do it!
nice. i'll happily cook everyone a good custom for for the shift like i did for the athena. watch the athena space for the 4.0 release. u'll definalty want that on ur shift.
from what i seen in the test roms, gps and phone shouldnt be too hard to get back. wifi just might be a bit harder. the antenna and all seem to be there as the test roms have a gps tool
Yes!
Yes, do it, cook the little bugger!
tell us where to donate for the shift project and i will
cheers, steve
tell us where to donate for the shift project
Big donate For italian lenguage!!!!
count me in financially ...
So far all positive feedback but there are hundreds of more users on this forum so we really need to hear back from the community.
We'll be finalizing Athena Project 4.0 soon so the timing is perfect.
The immediate core team members will be:
ltxda (myself of course)
Olipro
Cmonex
PK
Other members will be recruited as the need arises. We would also need two existing forum members with experience and good testing skills for when the ROM is beta quality to help test and work out any kinks.
Ok, i'm in. I can't help financially until i've paid off my Shift, but I'm up for any testing that needs doing.
Edit - I just donated.
Shift Project now accepting donations...
I setup a link on my signature for the Shift Project.
Remember, we're going to need the entire community to pitch in here to make this as successful as the Athena Project.
If we end up without the necessary donations we will just refund the money from the project. I hope that doesn't happen...never had to do a mass refund before...I wonder how long that would take. LOL
The good thing about this forum it's based on users like me...those that like the high end toys and don't mind playing a bit ;-)
Handroid; Android on the Hermes.
Hi all!
Ok, first off i'd just like to say i'm not as new here as I may seem - i've been stalking round these parts for 2/3 months now. Please don't flame me for that.
My only other post was on the discussion on a possible android port to the Hermes.
I liked this idea greatly, and so I decided to start the 'Handroid' project.
The idea is simple, a full port of android to the hermes. Nothing more, nothing less.
The port will be based on the linux port to the hermes as it would be foolish to let that port rust a little more while we start a new one.
We've all seen videos of android running on other pocketpc's so it's evidently possible.
But this is where I have to ask for your help. To get this port underway quickly and efficiently we need a team. And a team means that people like yourselves that feel they could help us out in some way. Help. Or even anyone you know who might have the skills required.
Handroid now has it's own wiki up Here.(That address is only a temporary one on my blog's webspace, handroid.org will be registered soon. Also, please for goodness sake don't flame because its a Work In Progress site. It will be looking much better soon.) I would love to hear from some of you soon on the wiki, or here.
Any help or even just a few points of input (or even failing that, simply encouragement) would be greatfully recieved. However, make no mistake, if this project is to suceed we need your help. I can't do this on my own.
I really hope to speak to some of you on the team soon.
Sam
Ok we will on touch!!!
Ok men if we could find anything usefull maybe pmed you must works... nice wiki...
BTW how can you do it? i have an account there too and i dont know where to start hahaha
*flames lick feet... i think*
Ok, so I take that's the first of many flames? Or was it genuine. Some how I doubt. *sigh*
Welcome !!!!
Hi,
i appreciate this attempt of getting some attention to port some alternative OS to hermes platform. Indeed it could be done and it would be in the spirit of GPL like the openmoko people did for there mobile devices.
In fact we urgently need some brave kernel hackers to push this forward, because the base of all that android stuff is a nice working kernel.
Please have a look at this thread to get an idea of the work that has been put into this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=273579
There's a lot of useful stuff
There are some barriers (arrrghh) and there are new devices drawing attention so the progress of linux port stucked a bit....
Anyway the winmob family is doing great work, so let's see how far we would come with this alternative!
Have fun,
scholbert
I am very interested and I hope I can be helpful (at least cheer leading). Though I don't know anything about the Hermes kernel, as a reverse engineer, I always hack my way out. I keep my eyes on your wiki.
Great!
Thanks for the anti-flames.... I think my feet didn't get burnt too much.
We ultimately need people with a specialism in linux driver/kernel development. However, as far as I can tell the kernel is pretty much functional, but I will check more closely later.
I'm also going to contact some developers of the other Android ports around and see if they have any advise.
Will report back soon,
Sam
Any new notice?
Anybody still working on this?
Sorry if this is completely irrelevant in every way shape and form, but I'm from a community of people who own Samsung Wave smart phones who would really like to own an Android port due to the horrendous support for Bada by Samsung and complete and total lack of applications.
We have a working Froyo 2.2 port on the device which many have copied to their phones with success. A few developers have worked on it, Olek_k from XDA was working on it, passed it over to Rebellos. However, we currently have no working modem, camera or battery sensor and they are having trouble with Kernel development. Rebellos says that he thinks he's collected enough info to write a modem driver, but he is having problems with the kernel and the project has stalled. We've seen the amazing progress that has been made with this project, being passed down from person to person and there is a huge community of people who would like to experience android on their Bada handsets. I am no developer myself and a lot of us aren't, but the project has stalled and it'd be a real shame for so much progress to be lost. Do you know of anyone or are you yourself a developer of HD2 Android? All of us at badaforums.net and those in the Bada section at XDA are eager to see progress on the project. We do have developers, but they need aid in an area that they do not know well.
Please don't take this as a demanding request, I'm simply asking if you know of anyone who could help compile an android kernel (I'm not sure of the detail you'd have to ask the developers themselves) with the help of the current devs. We'd be hugely greatful if you could co-operate and help us out, because I know many who would absolutely adore android on their crippled Wave smartphones.
I sent a message similar to this to the admin of the Android ROMs site (http://android.hd2roms.com/) to see if they had any ideas about someone who could help. If you didn't know already, the wave is only available outside of the US, I don't know if anyone in the US can help with the development without the phone, you'd have to ask Rebellos or one of the other devs from the topic.
Below are some links where the discussions are;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118436&page=260
http://www.badaforums.net/forums/android-porting/porting-android-s8500-wave-t5464.html
I am a noob at XDA and I haven't tried the port myself as of yet, but I love my Wave and no one has made the jump to reach to the awesome HD2 porting community yet, so I thought I'd try.
Please contact me in this topic, via PM, or contact Rebellos or any of the other developers in the topic if you, or someone you know can help out.
Thanks very much, again, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
- Ross
+1 as a HD2 and Wave user. Help us please!
Damn, no one else has noticed the post :/
Oh well, I'll be patient and just hope that people aren't ignoring the post lol.
Pins, do you know of someone who was at the head of the project? I'm pretty clueless, I'll do some digging.
They will, just give them time.
You might want to consider getting the XDA admin's incharge of the news, to publish this, since this is really going to go un-noticed by the majority of developers. Some good might come out of it. All the best. I remembered waiting (and I am sure many other HD2 users too) for the Android port and then WP7 port for HD2... it seemed like a long wait, but eventually it is done

Yeah man, thanks. I was just being impatient. Really don't want to come off as an arsehole because a lot of people in the bada-android forum got pissed due to trolls, when there are, infact a lot of people who are nice and genuine who are eager to see the port.
And I will have a look to see if I can do that erlern, but do you think they will really listen to someone with like, under 10 posts? xD I mean, they might, but however funny that noob video was, they don't seem to be particularly keen on them. We'll see.
erlern is right maybe its better to write the admins at news
Hi rayze! Erlern is right come to think of it, the admins handling the news section can post about this on the front page.
Also on the title of the post amend it to this "Help needed to build drivers into kernel" then maybe the developers of this thread may pay more attention too.
Also post this on the android development thread of HD2 since this is the Q&A section which has more to do with everyday use of the hd2.

Well someone needed to try to get people's attention
No one else seemed to bother doing it, so I thought, why not. Don't think I've posted in HD2 main yet, but might have. Struggling to remember really.
Oh yeah, no I didn't because I need more posts xD I only have 7 lol.
Unfortunately us Wave modders are probably one of the smallest communities in this entire forum, we might get noticed, but it's getting people to help that will be the highest hurdle. It's a shame really, you'd expect many more people to buy this phone when you can pick it up now at cpw for £99.
I really respect how those developers devote so much time on making better software for our phones, and in most cases they just want a thank you at the end.
I am so happy to see this at the front page of XDA!

Really hope to see Android on Waves! Glad to have contributed in a small way Keep the faith guys!

Thanks for telling me man!
Spreading the news at Badaforums!
I will also now make a post in the main HD2 development section.
Hey guys. Let me first start off saying I hope I'm in the right section here. This seems more plausible than the Q&A to me for some reason.
I was just seeking some information (for me and all other US potential buyers) on how/which/where/what to get this device? If anyone could just even attempt to answer one question, I would GREATLY appreciate it. My questions are not simple "do you like dis device?!", rather, they pertain to development:
1) Is there a difference between the International version and the 'US' version (if there are different versions)? I will not be buying this device on carrier contract and was wondering, when I buy it online, should I be aware of different versions with different radios, etc... I will be using this device with a microSIM on T-Mo USA HSPA+.
2) What are the odds of achieving S-Off? I understand HTC is offering a 'dev' edition but does NOT offer S-Off. Kind of a stab in the back for 'devs' if you ask me. I know this is SUPER early in development to even wonder, just throwing it out there wondering how well developers may support this device in the future. My main purpose of buying a new device is for a strong future in development (both stock updates and 3rd party support) in the long run.
3) Where/when/how/what? If that didn't make Sense?!?!: I noticed the 'dev' edition will be priced at 6hundred something USD (article linked above) and was wondering if this would be cheaper/more expensive than the regular unlocked man? I hope they don't retail this bad boy ridiculously expensive like Sammy over there with the new Cosmo 14 or whatever that device is.
Thank you so much guys! Any help would be super appreciated as mentioned before. Peace Please don't ripe me a new one if this thread is out of place!
Dear owners of the 2014 degas/wifi tablets, a team is forming to help make your old device run like new again. We unfortunately may not be able to guarantee an Android version upgrade but a performance upgrade instead. Now, as of the last year or so, there has been a group (Will not be named for reasons) claiming they have been creating ROMs for the device that are new editions of Android or similar to the newer versions. I’m here to say that they have been deceiving you the entire time. But this forthcoming team will not do so and will give the 4-year-old tab some love like it needed a long time ago.
Though, unfortunately, the team being assembled only has two members at the moment. We are in need of more experienced/inexperienced people to help develop this upcoming ROM/s. Though, if this isn’t your thing but you have a tab to help with testing, that would be an excellent help to us as well.
Some criteria for people applying is:
+ You own or have a SM-T230/NU tablet that you will have for the entirety of your assistance
+ You have your own PC to help develop (Or if testing, have a PC to flash the ROMs onto your device)
+ When developing, the latest version of Xubuntu (18.04, Bionic Beaver) is highly recommended to install in order to help us. (If you have any questions if your PC specs are good enough for development, please message me.)
+ You have a Discord or are willing to create one in order to communicate with us. (XDA doesn’t have voice chat and would be too slow for this kind of development)
We will be actually developing ROMs/mods for this tablet. Not taking others work and making slight adjustments and then claiming it to be ours! That is stealing and that is not what our group is about. If you have any questions about anything in this post, please comment below or message me.
I've tab for testing, but unfortunately that is where my skills end.
That’s alright!
Please message me privately so I can set you up with helping us further with this.
Moderator Edit:
All "discussions" must be kept on XDA and in public - collaboration happens here.. Or use our Discord Channel...
Thanks
I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 inch SM-T230NU and can help with testing ROMs or whatever you need. I can help just let me know...

Thanks in advance
So do I
I have a SM-T230 so I can help with testing, I'm pretty inexperienced but I can help a bit
I also have SM-T230, I would really like to have Android 5 on it so I can help
Is this development still ongoing? I would like to join the team. Is the discord still around?
