The Evo 4G is officially Citrix Certified - EVO 4G General

You may or may not have heard but I was surprised to learn today that the Evo is Citrix certified.
I personally use it with the Citrix Receiver (it was updated today) and its a pretty good experience.
If you have access to Citrix I would give it a shot!

Android vs IPad for Corporate use

I know this is an android only forum, but I have a quick question regarding android xoom vs ipad. I have only had android phones up until now, never an iphone. I played on an ipad over the last 2 days and I am wondering which would be better suited for a corporate environment? What I mean by that, is I plan on using whichever tablet I get for taking notes in meetings, adding events to my calendar quickly and other various "utilities" based applications that would come with a daily corporate life. I know the ipad has had a full year of apps being released over the android, but how long do you think the android will take to get an equivalent amount of utility based applications out? As somebody that has never owned an apple product before, should I just go with the android even though the market scene is lacking and not sure when it'll start gearing up, or should I get an ipad for my day to day use?
I am asking this here because I really wanted a xoom until I heard about the lack of applications that I could even use. The ipad was fun and has a ton of applications, but I want more of a PC like feel (which I think the xoom would give off). I have read that lots of you on here already have an ipad, of course I would wait for the ipad 2, what do you think?

I would wait for what the ipad2 is going to offer and also see if the xoom gets any updates while you waiting for ipad2 launch. I think this will give you a couple months to decide if you have that much time. Are you needing things like coporate sync and exchange too?
Yes. Both. It would be nice to sync up with my Google stuff, but I honestly don't use it that much. I would probably use that stuff more if I had an android tablet. I just really don't like the idea of having everything go through iTunes. But if the IPad would work better for what I need, I guess that is something I would have to overcome.
One thing we are playing with in the office is Citrix receiver for Android. I am using it on my Droid X and in a pinch its great to get me Remote Desktop to my servers and the app from what I have seen is on both platforms so if you have Citrix I would look into that. There are other solutions such as logmein etc. One thing we are patiently waiting to see if it will work is using the HDMI dock connected to a monitor and the BT KB and using it that way. I would love to see some sort of mouse support added similar to what the Atrix is going to offer. I think accessories will be the driving factor in the future of either. Not a real definitive answer but its ideas we are kicking around hope they help.
Citrix admin here... we have been standing up a LOT of senior management on the mobile receiver so it was the first thing I tested on my Xoom. Unfortunately it crashes every time you try to connect I emailed the Citrix receiver product manager already to ask him what's up.
Good luck if your corporate environent uses Proxy and MS Exchange. We've been trying lots of different Android devices (still waiting on the Xoom). The only thing that has worked somewhat consistently is my G-Tablet running a custom rom.
Unless 3.0 has change things, I suspect Android tablets are still not very corporate friendly.

What exactly have you had trouble with? I've got over a dozen Android devices synced without any issues (other than the initial sync with Droids) in our Exchange environment.
I also synced the Xoom as I walked out of the VZ store without any hiccups whatsoever.

[Q] Xoom DLNA certified or something similar?

Hi guys, I currently have a Droid X which I like very much specifically the DLNA and Xbox 360 sharing features, both of which allow me to wirelessly access my music, photos, and videos from my phone and computer on my Xbox Does the Xoom have this feature or at least does Gingerbread 3.x support it/plan on supporting it?
Also I read in one of the reviews that the miniHDMI out doesn't work directly from the device, rather it needs the dock and then from the dock you go miniHDMI to HDMI on the TV, is this true? (That wouldn't make much sense to me...)
All in all, I have to say I'm excited to be a consumer now-a-days, I'm leaning towards the Xoom, but I do miss certain apps from my Ipad of which there are no GOOD substitutes on android. Specifically, AirVideo which worked like a charm both over wi-fi and 3G and GoodReader, both of which I used religiously. I also hope that Netflix will have an android app soon. Besides that though, I must say if I don't get the xoom, I'm excited to finally start customizing the looks and basic UI, like I have with LP and Desktop Widgets on my Droid X.
Currently the xoom doesn't support dlna. Possibly in the future?
The HD dock is not needed to use HDMI out. Just hook up any micro HDMI cable and it works fine.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Edit: I was wrong. I found an app that works! I'm using 2Player. Give that a try.
Yes it has DLNA ... look for Skifta in the market ... and if you run into any issues use their tech support like i did in this thread http://forums.skifta.com/topic/tablet-support?replies=12#post-1164

[Q] Wireless Auditing with XOOM

Hi, I am looking at the XOOM for doing some wireless Auditing around work. I was hoping that you would be able to provide some insight on its feasibility...
things on my wish list to find & map are: infrastructure mode AP's, Ad Hoc & polling/active clients.
I have some experience using Kismet on a laptop and it is the kind of functionality i would like.. just would like a more portable form factor for this, it will involve driving around a large campus style location and walking through buildings..
My Questions:
from what i have read, the Broadcom chipset used in these devices do not have a "Monitor" or "RFMON" Mode that would allow it to see all the packets flying by.. I have read a bit in some other forums about some work being done on this, but no recent activity... does anyone know of any current efforts on this?
I have read in previous discussions that the Xoom has problems connecting to a Ad-Hoc mode devices, does it still detect it?
I havent played with the Android war-driving apps too much, are they listening for packets or is it a probe and respond due to the lack of RFMON?
For those with experience, which war-driving apps would you recommend with the pros & cons?
Thanks in advance!
I can't answer most of your questions but I can say that my Xoom does not see my Samsung Epic when I set up wireless tether in Adhoc mode, only when I set it up in Infrastructure mode. It doesn't even see the SSID, but my netbook sees it fine.
I'm a diehard Android fan to say the least I'm an anti-apple but I do keep my options open. I own a few Touch, iPad, SGS Fascinate and Samsung Galaxy tab 2.2 and the Xoom is/was on my list. Last night I spend sometimes with the iPad that I own or should I say my kids owns it, I got IOS 4.3 GM on it to see the improvements. All I can say it's the same, no big changes except for better Apple TV support and browser speed. It's been months since I looked what was available on iTunes for it and to tell you the truth on what I saw was impressive. This has not changed my mind on getting the Xoom or did it? Now on Xoom, I've been reading almost every reviews on the net about it, spend a few hours with it at the local store "BB Bj's etc" and after reading the Ars review, I feel a little bit more hesitant about getting now than 2 days ago! I intend to get the Xoom Wifi only ver but no one knows when it will arrive, and what’s up with Europe getting it first? I have the deepest feeling that in six to ten months Honeycomb support will explode for it but that's in the future. With the release of the iPad 2, anyone getting it will look away from Android tablet for at least a year even if the Android tablet support quadruples. Starting March 11, the road is going to get very bumpy for Android and companies releasing Tablet for it. Just like harsaphes said, I too is on the fence for the Xoom…
Let me know what do you think about the Xoom no fanboys argument…Thanks guys

Airplay Mirroring finally works on Raspberry Pi

Hi All,
we have been working on a new remote display product, called rPlay
In short, rPlay v1.0 supports Apple's Airplay protocol, including the latest Airplay Mirroring technology, so you will be able to send iPhone/iPad screens to a HDTV powered by a Raspberry Pi. It supports real time audio/video streaming.
This is the first time Airplay mirroring is implemented on raspberry pi devices.
We are accepting 100 beta testers for the Raspberry Pi platform, please send email to info at our company domain name.
Youtube video demo:

Nice work, seems really usefull!
For those who sent emails to request beta testing, please wait for a week or two, we are wrapping up a stable build for you. Thanks,

Any chance of a port for Android Devices? We've been trying with Android Transporter, BBQScreen, and MirrorOp, but nothing seems to work with Any Android device to the Raspberry Pi.
We don't support mirroring Android devices yet. However, we do have a port of rplay to run on Android, that is to mirror iOS devices to Android devices. (we plan to support mirroring Android in future releases)
If you want to mirror android at low fps, you can use our VNC server: (no audio/video, but what you see on the screen is indeed what you will get):

Legal concern
Apple doesn't open AirPlay mirroring protocol to any 3rd party. So far the only way to receive AirPlay Mirroring stream is via reverse engineering. Do you think it's possible to over come the legal issue and then make this functionality a real product to sell to consumers?
yes, that's our plan, to provide this as a real product for systems such as Raspberry Pi, Android, etc. We are also developing a miracast receiver within rPlay, so this would act as an open TV dongle. With our remote agent installed on the phone, (e.g., our VNC Server for Android and iOS), one can also remotely control the device, in addition to viewing.

When you say open, do you mean this will all be open source?
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Open refers to support multiple devices, iOS, Android, PC etc.. We don't have plan yet as whether to open source it. We first need to make sure it works to its best.

I have received quite some emails for the beta testing, thanks. I will try to release the first test version late next week, stay tuned.
This first version will NOT contain miracast emulation, our upcoming versions will have that ready, so Android devices can also mirror screens to raspberry pi.
pretty cool!!!!
Thanks for this !
I've just sent an email to be a beta tester.
Regards
Does this beta already support Miracast?
This beta won't have miracast support. We do have internal version that works, we tested on S3 (with 4.1.1), S3(4.2.2), and Nexus 4/7, we need more testing on this before releasing to the public. It will be cool, I assure you.

Very impressive!! I already have a Rasp Pi hooked to my TV. This would be very useful. I recently ordered the $35 Chromecast so I could do mirroring with Chrome.
Spent a few days to emulate Chromecast inside rPlay, finally it can find the rPlay (on Raspberry Pi) as a chromecast device, and it can send youtube URL redirection. still long way to go, but seems possible.
Attached is a screenshot of Youtube on Nexus 7, the Chromecast button is shown, when clicked, it will show rPlay as the device.
This is just awesome!
Are you still accepting beta testers?, this looks awesome!

Nvidia Shield price reduced to $199 . New update adds Gamestreaming outside of home

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nv...te-price-drop-remote-gamestreaming,26382.html
Nvidia today at GTC shared some exciting news for current Shield owners, as well as an enticing offer to try to attract new buyers.
Shield will see a temporary price drop down to $199 through to the end of April, reflecting a $50 price drop. Shield originally launched in July 2013 at $299. Nvidia didn't share whether or not the price will go back up to $249 after April, but those who have been eyeing up the Tegra 4-powered portable will now have a lower barrier to entry.
Nvidia's also introduced a few new features to Shield that will be rolling out by early April as a part of the upgrade to Android KitKat 4.4.2. One big change is that now Shield owners will be able to GameStream from their Kepler GPUs not just from their home networks, but anywhere. The new version will allow gamers to use Wake on LAN and Remote Login to get their portable gaming going. Gamers can also stream from their notebooks as well, though the use case for this will be a bit more unique given that the host machine itself is portable.
We asked Nvidia what the bandwidth requirements are for a decent experience, and we're told that a 5 Mbit upload is one of the key ingredients. Mirroring that, of course, is the data connection for the Shield, which in theory should also be on a 5 Mbit download. Latency will likely be the biggest wildcard of all. Nvidia's also added new controls for Shield owners to set maximum bit rate and frame rates independently when on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Also a part of the KitKat update is a new GamePad Mapper UI that will better allow Shield gamers to play touchscreen games but with physical controls. There's also new Bluetooth keyboard and mouse support for Shield's console mode, which opens up the door for some impromptu big screen gaming setups on your couch.
A new version of TegraZone will also be on the way, improving the interface for gamers to find the games they are looking for. In related game news, Nvidia revealed that Valve has created a version of Portal for Shield. We hope it won't be long before we see that.
Look for our hands-on with the new Shield update coming soon.

So, How can i stream a game from my pc to my shield when im outside my local network? I have a 4G LTE Jetpack that i carry when im out and about, So i assume that i could use that to bridge my connection. Is there instructions on how to do this?

Well it's kinda up in the air how Nvidia is going to handle this, maybe look at Kainy and see how that team handles a very similar case.
http://www.kainy.com/whatiskainy.html
I could guess that it will involve either logging in with a google account, or using a secure password and identifier code that will be setup inside the Geforce Experience application on PC.
Basically:
Download updates for Geforce Experience/ GPU Drivers
Setup the connection password/login/whatever inside the Geforce app on PC
Copy connection rules to the Shield version of the Geforce app
Leave home wifi
Connect to some other capable internet source
Play
On a related note, I might actually be buying a Bluetooth keyboard mouse combo and an Ethernet adapter so I can play Dota 2 at my friends house.... WITH HIM! (I know I should just get a Laptop...)
I'm really excited for the real Mouse support! I've wanted this on Android for years lol, I am so satisfied with the Shield right now!

You could easily connect that Jetpack (Mobile Hot Spot), but you don't want to do that if you are on a tiered data plan. You could potentially blow through your data plan in no time. I can speak from experience.

Is it possible to only update the gamepad mapper. 16 gigs of internal memory isn't a lot and the gamepad mapper update is all I really want.
Also the article mentions how popular emulation is via the shield. Would it be possible for Nvidia to work on Shield exclusive emulators. An N64 or Dreamcast emulator optimized for the Shield would be awesome.

All you should have to do is connect your Jetpack to Verizons network, then connect your Shield to the Jetpack.
From Newegg if you use promotional code: VMEMADNESS and use the V.Me checkout you get another 10% off. I just got one day shipping on the shield for ~192 with the code and Premier.
