+1
Double Thanks all the way.
I'm loving swype more and more

If you swype off the top of the keyboard it will capitalise that letter for you.
You can access the number pad by hitting sym, then long tapping the same key.
If you need to pluralise a word (ie word becomes word's) then type in "word" then swype 's and it will do it nicely for you.

ive got a question. if you swype one letter. for example "u". it gives you four options.
Up (light blue)
Us (white_
Usa (white)
U (dark blue)
my question, is there a quicker way to select the dark blue option other than touching it? because most of the time i want that option not the top.
cheers

Just ignore the pop up and continue to swype the next word. The word in blue will be selected by default.

yes the light blue word is selected automatically if you keep swyping.. but i want the dark blue..

Excellent tips. Thanks people.

Thanks guys, this really is USEFULL stuff!

That first tip seems as though it may be quite useful.

I have a problem that probably only applies when using Swype in Swedish. Whenever I type a single 'i', it is automatically made uppercase... in swedish a single i means 'in' and should not be uppercase.. almost feels like a bug.
anyone know a way around this?

Those are two great tips! Especially the first I wonder why they didn't include that in the interactive Swype tutorial? The tutorial was otherwise quite useful.

swipe from letter "i" down to space bar and your "i" will not be capitalized.

Weird Browser quirk... Stock or Dolphin

So this is something that kinda bothers me.
After Damage Control's V1 (2.1) this is pretty much the only thing I can think of to ***** about
If you're in the browser, at some random web page, and you press the search hard button... there is no damn space bar! The search button does bring up the search bar, but you have to goto the symbols just to press the space after each button. Its a real PITA.
Is this something that would be difficult to fix?

It's probably the HTC STOCK keyboard that's causing this, because in Darch's rom he has the stock android keyboard in it.

I can confirm this happens in a vanilla install of DamageControl V1.0 -espresso- I can also confirm that this did not happen with my stock 1.5 build.
Do you folks think this is a 2.1 bug from HTC that is affecting ALL 2.1 roms sporting sense and the HTC keyboard then?
Is it something that can be easily fixed in the code?

Indeed!
The first "search" brings up the URL search and URL keyboard. It is designed for searching URLs and space is not a valid character in URL. Note that the
text in the search box says "Search or type URL".
Pressing "search" again, calls up a normal text search, and thus you get the keyboard with a space, and the text in the search box says "Quick Search Box".
Therefore, it's not a bug or an omission - it is by design.

Dave

Thats exactly what i was gonna say! The first search option for websites doesnt include the spacebar cuz there is never a space is a url... therefore this is a misunderstanding of how the software functions. A different keyboard will not change how the browser's search function works. It will still by default show url searches first. Changing browsers may help...

Tweaking the stock keyboard to automaticall add entered words to dictionary

HTC IME has the nice feature of automatically adding entered words to the keyboard dictionary. I'd like to use HTC IME because of this, but I still prefer the stock keyboard because of the scrolling word suggestions.
Can anyone add this functionality to the stock keyboard?
Really? I found that incredibly irritating with HTC IME; that's why I don't use it.
It's simple enough to add them from stock, just long-press on the word you want to add and then keep going.

I second that. The fact that I could make a typo and then it's automatically saved as the default is a burden, not a feature.
I don't like the Desire IME too. Google's IME is so much smarter.
But I do like Desire's keyboard.. it lets you type numbers/symbols by long pressing the respective keys.
It's really nice if you type non-English words

The long press is a nice feature, but it is very slow and obtrusive. I hope, there's a much faster way to add words.
It would be nice if when the user taps on "add to dictionary", the word would automatically be added without taking the user to another screen. That's much faster.
I've noticed you can save words by typing them repeatedly (like three times) and then pressing the word you want in the list that pops up each time.

That's really cool! If we can reduce the number of times the word has to be typed to be added to the dictionary, it would be great!

Volume/Search button on X10

Anyone actually know how to use it as a search button? I thought it would be long press or press the whole button down, or something like that, but can't figure it out.
Long press menu button (left button) is search on the X10.
Edit: I think the magnifying glass image means zoom

[Q] Moving Android Keyboard Cursor

Does anyone know how to move the cursor when using the keyboard, needing to add/delete a characters in the middle of a msg or text and repeated stabbing on my screen to get it in the right place is extremely frustrating anyone know a better way
I'm glad it's not just me, it must be hell on one of the lower end small screen devices. I have enough trouble on the X5!
btw langers, a little off topic but... have u tried 2degrees free facebook "zero" service??? when i try i get an error saying its not available from my carrier?? Just wondering whether its cos i'm not using my original stock rom
Facebook 0 works for me so you could be right
k thanks for that
Hey guys,
The reason you cant get onto FB 0 service is because you are using the APN internet.
This does not require a proxy and therefore o.facebook cant parse your mobile number to confirm you are indeed with 2degrees.
Try editing you APN and throwing 118.148.001.118 in the proxy and 8080 in the port.
If that doesn't work activate your WAP profile (it'll be called '2degrees') and see if that works.
If youre still having trouble give 2deg a call on 0800 022 022 and they'll sort you.
hope this helps
I'm using internet API and it works fine with no intervention/editing from me
YES!!!
cheers for that, worked a treat, didnt even realise those settings were even there, lol fairly new to the smartphone thing!!
i was using the internet apn as you said and once i switched it to 2deg all was good

No it's not a complaint
Just too eager for a solution of the keyboard cursor mover
Well the good news is, after hours of searching finally found a solution of sorts...the bad news is, it ain't free $3.75. BUT there is a free trial version, with nag screen. I'm using it now and have only been nagged once.
The cursor can be moved via arrow keys which are enabled thru the extensive settings menu.
The arrow keys up, down, left, right sit at the bottom of the keyboard and make editing easy peasy. As u can imagine it does take up a fair bit of yr screen and the keys are slightly smaller but I think there is a calibration setting 4 that.
What I do like is upper case numbers and symbols, so no need to change screens.
Prediction works really, really well 2.
A heap of languages are also supported.
All in all not a bad little k/b, so head 2 the market an check it out. Smart Keyboard Trial.
Oh, btw swype also has arrow keys 4 cursor control if that spins ye wheels!

e. lol a minute late
No luck for me as I have to stick with Chinese keyboards. I am looking for another app which adds a slider for text selection like how gingerbread implemented.

Best tip ever, thank you. Although I'd be happy just to make the keyboard work exactly like it does on my cm10 phone (where the numbers are long press on the first row) this at least removes the annoyance of having to switch to the number keypad all the time.
