Sent from my HTC Magic using Tapatalk

Maybe with universal androot,i just can install root apps only...but not flash rom?

Yes, you can now download the Rom manager from the Market, and the rest of the procedures are pretty much automated after that. Its quite simple.
I am running CyanogenMod-5.0.8 on a rooted myTouch 3G fender edition. I used the same method as yours to root it.
For more details, go to Nexus one forum, and look for a thread "One Click Root" or something like that. I believe you'll find the detailed instructions on page 22.
Good luck!

I have install rom manager but it says can install on my phone though :' (

Can or can't install on your phone? I am little confused. Anyways I suggest you download Titanium backup from the Android market as well, before you flash ROM. Once you finish back up, you can then start with the ROM Manager.
If either of those doesn't install on your phone, then it is not rooted!

Indeed. Or... download Titanium backup then tell us if you have Busybox installed. Once that's installed, connect it to your computer and type "su" with command prompt and adb installed and if your $ turns to a # then you definitely have root. You can also use terminal emulator from Market. If and when you get the # your next step is a recovery file. After you have a custom recovery your next step is to flash a custom rom.

Thanks all...i will try it...i can install shootme, setcpu and cachemate but i cant install rom manager, its says cannot install on my phone...

Update recovery image?

Hey guys
I'm currently using an older version of RA-hero. How do I upgrade to the new version (v1.7.0.1)?
ADB for some reason won't work properly with my laptop, is there an alternative way to upgrade my recovery rom?
Thanks,
Alex
edit: oops my bad, I thought I was posting under Q&A. Sorry!
Try using the update.zip posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7873924&postcount=1208
Have a look at BTDAGs guide linked in my signature, there should be step by step instructions using Terminal Emulator, failing that you can also try Flashrec but that doesn't work on all roms for some reason.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I've already got that ! Do I just flash it like I would do with a ROM? Or is there some other process?
... Oh, too late, the update.zip method posted above will be the easiest route to go.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Yep, just like a ROM.

No need to do any wipes though.

Un-rooting mt3g

K. Rooted my sons phone to put cm6 on it. Nandroid backup of his 1.6 before I installed it.
Reflashed the 1.6 so he can get the OTA 2.2. So, now he has 1.6 but is still rooted.
Now how do I unroot it?
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA app
You shouldn't need to do anything else. The update will overwrite the custom recovery which should be the last thing left of your being "rooted".
Sent from my HTC Magic using Tapatalk
Thanks. Just making sure. He hasn't had any notifications of any update yet.
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA app
I just thought about something, how did you root it in the first place? If you used the Androot method you will need to re-run the program selecting the unroot option, then I would suggest also doing a factory reset. Reason being is that with the Androot method you would have rooted the phone as the first step so you could use ROM manager to create the backup and to flash a new recovery.

Man. It's been so long I can't remember... I know I used terminal on my g1 and rooted his phone about the same time and I'm pretty sure I used the method on the cyanogen wiki. I will have to go look at that.
Still nothing being reported on his phone about any updates....
Sent from my Vibrant using XDA app
Okay. Checked on the cyanogen wiki and I am now positive I used the security hole in 1.5 method ny flashing a new SAPP.IMG file.
But, my question remains. The phone is still rooted and on 1.6, will it get the OTA update? I guess I could just wait until the weekend is over to see. Nothing so far....

WRONG!
Did you install the Superuser app that comes with androot?
If not install it separately and it should fix your problems!
Or install it from androot by changing the options before clicking the root button.

Gingerbread

How would I go about getting gingerbread on my new mt4g?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
download cm7 (cyanogen mod 7) or download nexus s...either one will work from the development section. to use gingerbread, you will need clockwork recovery 3. (2 is flashed from rom manager) directions to flash clockwork recovery can be found through a search.
here are the links
CM7:

You don't NEED a computer to do this, but it GREATLY helps things along.
and YES you must be perma-rooted with s=off.
Ok. Thanks. How long would all this usually take. How do I go about rooting my phone.

yes. to root your phone i suggest following the true permroot guide.
for the need of a computer..it is not required, but is recommended. it would easier to root your phone and flash your recovery with.

Dude, he was asking for HELP, not to be made fun of...
no, back to the question at hand. to root the mytouch 4g, you would need to follow one of the guides to rooting found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866175
that link also has links to all the other things you will need, but Ill provide them here as well for time's sake.
once you do that and have s-off, you will need to flash an alternate recovery to flash a rom. Normally, you would need to install rom manager to do this, then flash clockwork recovery through there, but to install gingerbread, it requires a special version of the recovery which is not officially supported by rom manager yet, so you will need to either install through fastboot (follow the steps provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=852905 )
or else follow the instructions provided by TruBlue found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10670110#post10670110
once you have the right recovery installed, youll need to wipe data and caches, and then flash the gingerbread rom of your choice.
As for what apps you will need for all this: ROM Manager, as I mentioned (the premium version if you'd like to take advantage of CM built in nightly build update notifications). Titanium Backup (for backing up all your apps so you dont have to manually redownload them all, and have your app data intact on the new rom), and Root explorer (optional) for a root-enabled file manager.
Any further questions, feel free to send me a PM. Thanks to Tiger013 for compiling the list of everything, grankin for his Root how-to's, and TrueBlueDrew for his how to on install CWM 3x.
