Thanks, I already know how to do that though. This thread was started to ask if kkruse might share with us what he did since it might be useful to incorporate into our own kernels.

It's 'ESPECIALLY'. There's no X in that word. Also 'relevance' not 'relevence'. I'm certain I'm missing one or two there, but this was just a quick glance. Since you seem to be all over propriety, I suggest learning to spell before criticizing others.

PM's are exactly how you communicate with other members and if after PMing said Member, he received info that he felt relevant to the forum, then he should post it. IMO people shouldn't take offense to a topic being posted in the wrong section. If I have a request for an app section I don't know if that goes in development, themes & apps, or general.
I think the best solution is to create more categories. "Questions/problems" "mods/hacks" "accessories" and maybe one specific to devs where they get some type of posting approval on their profile allowing them to post in a development section.
The categories are far too general to know exactly where every post should go, in my opinion.

Still new to the android phones, but was once new to this forum. For someone who doesn't really know where they're supposed to post it's an easy mistake.

The mods take care of this, trust me. They write in every locked thread and moved thread why it was moved, etc. This is just annoying. To me, this looks more like you are asking to be a mod than anything. But I see your view.

Yeah, they do... but it's really annoying when someone posts a "how to flash" question in the dev forum... and no, I'm not asking for mod powers [in fact I don't want mod powers]... quite frankly I visit this site just once or twice a day... to busy with demos at work... I just want to know all the ways we can avoid this... anything to help the "super-mods" on this forum... yeah stickies are there... but some ppl just act dumb and don't even bother to read the stickies...

I may be new to this forum... (cuz I got my N1 just around that time... my first Android phone... and I never had any other phones for which this forum has threads.... but XDADev is a trusted, well known name...) I moderated MotorolaFans.com a couple of years ago, before I got too involved with office work, and I did have to deal with this crap there as well.
I guess ppl got the wrong impression from this thread (I think it's my fault, didn't word it correctly). I'm just looking for ways to make the mods' lives a little less frustrating... and to get crap outta the wrong forums ;-).

So basically, this thread was created as a way for you to not so subtly cry out that you want to be a mod. All this after only being on this forum for a few weeks. Gotcha.

Err... hello.... if u read my earlier posts... I said I DON'T want to be a mod... quite frankly, I don't have the time... and I'd land up doing a crappy job... I'm just saying, from personal experience, that a mods job isn't easy... and we, the users, need to contribute to keeping this forum clean...
Let me put this down properly...
1. I don't want to be a mod
2. I'm not doubting or complaining about the mods and the great work they do
3. There are only a few mods and thousands of users (that's some task)
4. We, the users, also need to help keeps things clean
So in short, what can I, as a USER, do to help improve this situation!!!

Not possible. You will get an error that says something to the tune of image is older and the RUU will abort.

You can not root 2.1 and the phone will not allow you to downgrade the hboot so you can not go back from 2.1
There is a thread in the dev forum. A couple people are trying to find a work around to either downgrade or just a plain old exploit to gain root. Keep a look out for it.

In my field thats a form of Subordination. I have modded for many years and ran my own forums, if i was a Mod/Admin here i would see it like that... But honestly, dude im not busting your chops regardless i was just pointing out a simple rule which wasnt directly or indirectly pointed at you. You talk about feelings running high here well everyone at one point or another was a newbie so since my feelings are now directly involved at this point i feel that yes... Some of the comments here that i have seen especially to newbies are complete irate, irrational and overall douche like.

I don't think it was the "No. Not possible." part that was the issue, it was the "Done. Mods close thread." part that was a bit rude. It came off that way to me anyways. A simple "Not possible" would have sufficed.

My feelings were never hurt because I understand how some people do not have lives and just go from post to post being assholes to strangers on the internet to make up for their non-existent social life in the real world. Wow. I know reposts are annoying to a lot of people, but I tend to not be so uptight because one or two reposts every few days on an important subject which sometimes cite different source material doesn't seem so bad. And besides, it may actually be the first time some other guy is seeing it.
But why do I have to go through pages of comments which are all belittling the OP? You sir, did not need to post, as the guy right above you had already mentioned this is old news - why do we need this done more than once? If you don't like reposts, move on, there's no reason we should have pages of useless hypocritical comments in a thread which someone else might find to be useful if not for all the trash.

why would you search for that link instead of a thread on that topic? there is a handy 'search this forum' button. just type in "unlock bootloader" and see how much pops up. You'll even find the main thread with the petition that lead to this, and the same news is in that thread.

If no threads have a link to this same news article, it is not a repost. People enjoy different perspectives on the same topics.

I guess everyone is just a little groggy and annoyed that we keep hearing about an unlocked boot loader or news of a boot loader and boot loaders with HTC and all those great news for phones other than the ATRIX.
Our phone is suppose to be a flagship, but it feels like we're playing second fiddle to other phones because of the limitations of the boot loader.
Let's just keep our cool and be patient. If all else fails... We will start a mass riot.... on the internet of course =] DDOS AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF.

This is the Interenet. It has Forums. In every single one of those forums, people post the same things, over and over. Repeatedly. In ever single one of those forums, there are forum rules. In every single one of those forums, those rules get ignored. In every single one of those forums, someone posts about how there are rules and that idiot n00bs should use the search function.
What's the point of all this? That it doesn't matter. To borrow a quote, "This has all happened before, and it will happen again." The ass pointing out to the n00b to use the search function doesn't need you to tell him he's being an ass any more than I need to tell you that it's pointless. And even if THAT n00b starts to use the search function, some OTHER n00b will be along shortly posting the same thing. This is how the internet works. And until ALL anonymity goes away, that's just how it's going to be. Seriously, don't get worked up over it. Just realize to yourself that there's another repeat post that's going to be criticized and move along to the next post. 1. I've learned this from several jobs, school, and marketing. When people see more post counts, or a post from an older date, people are less likely to get a response. Along with this, some searches are very vague and just never get the answers we were looking for. I can google almost anything and find what I want to find. My girlfriend, my mother, heck my boss seem like idiots to me when I see how they keyword what they want, and don't get results. And for the people who do find what they want, probably dont find exactly what they want.
But point is, yes, step one, is always use search. if you don't. someones going to ignore your question and tell you "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION."

I for one have read a few of your posts - so i am familiar with your charming and sarcastic personality!
On the other hand, they have read the rules already, and do search first etc etc etc..
In this instance, this thread becomes an ironic hypocrisy, where it appears that the "rules" that are often beaten about our newbie heads by mods/senior members - dont appear to apply to them....

It's true i am walking the fine line between insanity and enlightenment.
But i figured we could all read this.
Some will feel offended others will feel enlightened.

I am aware of this and the problem is.. awareness.
I used this thread to rant.
The mods may delete it.
My point has been made.
PEOPLE please pay attention. << this was my point as very few seem to read the rules or follow the guidelines.
The point is pointless as many have been ignoring the rules.
I am not saying we should ignore noobs.. help them but also inform them.
One forum i was part of tried using a gestapo attitude to this issue.
It was a complete mess.
It was only due to my efforts and love for that forum that it started to shape up and become a true medium for communication and development.

This is why i make these comments, this is why i rant, this is why i expose myself to harassment and mental torture.. it's not just for me.. but for you.
I stand for all that is good!
My dark sense of humor serves that purpose.

The x10 is and SE's delivery on the product is the true issue at hand.

Whenever i use the search tool and for example i search for launcherpro all i see is roms and stupid crap so i just dont use the search tool 95% the results are roms --
