I was wondering if a terminal command exists that can force the phone to switch from 3g to 2g and vice versa?
Any helpful replies would be appreciated.

Hi,
I would like my Universal to open a Data Connection ONLY when there is an UMTS signal, and never if I am in roaming or not in UMTS. This because my "provider" (3 Italy) has only UMTS antennas and when its signal is not available it goes automatically in roaming but when I am in roaming I have to pay for traffic.
I tried to change the phone settings (Band->Network type) to WCDMA only, but in this way I cannot use roaming at all even for calling, but if I set Network type to Auto, I can use roaming but I will pay lots of money because I use Email Push that goes always on line.
Thanks!!
anyone can help me?!
Hi all,
I use samsung devices for last 2-3 years and never seen such an issue. Network mode is set into WCDMA/GSM (auto connect), but the phone only downgrades from WCDMA to GSM, but not vice versa. So it stucks in edge mode with crappy network speed, the only way to force it back is to reboot the device or force WCDMA modem then it shows proper H+ icon and it works way better. But after some period of time when signal will go lower it will switch to 2g mode once again and never (or just with a huge delay, I waited for an hour) switched back to 3g.
Will appreciate any advices.

Hello.
Sorry to reply to an old topic. I have the exact problem. I have a note 3 n9005 and when the network mode is WCDMA/GSM or LTE/WCDMA/GSM, my phone stays on GSM often. 3G signal is good in the area, and when I check my friends' phone, I see they are on 3G network but mine is on 2G.
When I choose WCDMA Only, phone registers on 3G network and works without any problem. But switching back to auto connect, cause the phone to register on 2G again.
Please help if you can.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, what is the string to write to a Terminal emulator (with root permission) that allows to switch network mode (2g,3g,4g)?
Thanks
Depends on your provider I suppose
The adb code for my note 4 is
"settings put global preferred_network_mode1 X"
Where X is the number representation of the network mode
For instance if I put an 8 I get (CDMA+LTE/EVDO)
But if I put an 11 I get (LTE only)
though I have sprint which is cdma it will be different for gsm
To get what number to use for your network mode you could select your desired mode in the settings and then in the terminal enter
Settings list global | grep pref
Which returns both
"preferred_network_mode X"
and
"preferred_network_mode1 X"
For those 2 modes I use on sprint I only have to change the "preferred_network_mode1" because "preferred_network_mode" is 10 for both those modes
If both change per mode selected on yours you have to change both in adb
"settings put global preferred_network_mode1 X"
"settings put global preferred_network_mode X"
Hi, I have a problem with my phone.
It registers the 4g network to connect where in Brazil only 3G and 2G receive calls.
Could you teach me to put these commands in Terminal Emulator?
My phone is a Galaxy S5 with a Costom Rom 7.1.
Only 4G or 3G or 2G and not automatic.
Can you help me, receive and make 3G and 2G connections, 4G / 3G internet?

Instead of using terminal emulator why not use your dialer its a custom ROM right open dialer an type *#*#4636#*#* into it an hit phone information then you can play with the "set network type" settings till you get what settings work for you
Hey guys. Is there any way we can switch to 4G network type only..?

Just
1) Open "secret" menu *#*#4636#*#*
2) Select "Phone information"
3) And select network type you want
PS
But with LTE only you will not able to make calls

You wouldn't want to, you need it to scale down to H, 3G, 2G and E others use you'd lose signal all the time not worth it. Plus your battery would go quicker.
Only if you want data only. What are you getting with it set to 2g/3g/4g preffered
Hello,
I am a new one plus owner and noticed that when 4g connection is lost it switches back to (H+ or 3g) which is normal. But when I go outside again I have to manually enter airplane mode and disable it to gain 4G again in the heart of Amsterdam.
I am currently running 9.0.11. Do some of you notice similar problems as my old phone works fine.
Open Phone app and dial *#*#4636#"#* goto Phone information. Make sure that Preferred Network type is set to LTE/UMTS auto (PRI). If it still does not work try switching the modem using QPST tools.

Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
Download the app 4g fix
Set preferred network type.
LTE only
Hope it helps
Hi Isene, Did you get this problem resolved? I'm having a simular problem of a dropped 4g connection which won't reconnect. I'm on Tele2.
I tried switching the preferred network but that didn't work.
