Change network mode (3g,4g) from command line - Android Software Development

Hi, what is the string to write to a Terminal emulator (with root permission) that allows to switch network mode (2g,3g,4g)?
Thanks

Depends on your provider I suppose
The adb code for my note 4 is
"settings put global preferred_network_mode1 X"
Where X is the number representation of the network mode
For instance if I put an 8 I get (CDMA+LTE/EVDO)
But if I put an 11 I get (LTE only)
though I have sprint which is cdma it will be different for gsm
To get what number to use for your network mode you could select your desired mode in the settings and then in the terminal enter
Settings list global | grep pref
Which returns both
"preferred_network_mode X"
and
"preferred_network_mode1 X"
For those 2 modes I use on sprint I only have to change the "preferred_network_mode1" because "preferred_network_mode" is 10 for both those modes
If both change per mode selected on yours you have to change both in adb
"settings put global preferred_network_mode1 X"
"settings put global preferred_network_mode X"

Hi, I have a problem with my phone.
It registers the 4g network to connect where in Brazil only 3G and 2G receive calls.
Could you teach me to put these commands in Terminal Emulator?
My phone is a Galaxy S5 with a Costom Rom 7.1.
Only 4G or 3G or 2G and not automatic.
Can you help me, receive and make 3G and 2G connections, 4G / 3G internet?

Instead of using terminal emulator why not use your dialer its a custom ROM right open dialer an type *#*#4636#*#* into it an hit phone information then you can play with the "set network type" settings till you get what settings work for you

[Q] HSPA

I am a noob to the world of android phones (as an owner) however I have an android tablet. Currently i am warming up to android so i purchased a Samsung Galaxy Y. I am currently in Jamaica and the provider I had purchased the phone from is a 2g, 4g provider knowing i could not legitimately get 4G I was given a 4G none the less but my phone would say H during data transfers, I have never tested the speed though. My internal memory was full and after hours and days of trying link2SD and other programs to create a psedo-extended internal drive i decided to try Creeds rom V4 however it was a memory hog and i decided to try another ROM, this caused my phone to "brick" i was able to unbrick itexcept now i am seeing E for my data transfers instead of H. I have no HSPA menu since noticing that i have tried several other ROMs and stock OS however none gave me back the H please help :'(

You must have a 3G/4G mobile compatible device such as a smartphone, BlackBerry, tablet or dongle and a Digicel SIM to access Digicel 4G Mobile.
Our 4G network supports any device with the 850MHz band. Any such 3G, 4G, HSPA, HSDPA and HSPA+ capable device can enjoy the fastest download, upload and browsing speeds available on Digicel 4G Mobile.
Change your phone settings for 4G:
Customers must ensure that the device settings are properly set up to connect to 4G Mobile.
Here is how to change your phone Network Settings:
STEP 1 - Device Settings:
· 4G Phones/Smartphones: Adjust your phone network settings in “Network Settings” or “Network Connection” to 3G & 2G, 4G & 2G, GSM/WCDMA or dual mode depending on your phone type.
· BlackBerry Smartphones: Adjust your phone network settings in “Manage Connections” or “Mobile Network Option” to 3G & 2G or 4G & 2G depending on your phone type.
STEP 2 - Remove and replace the phone battery or power off and on your phone.
STEP 3 - Once you have successfully connected to 4G Mobile the icon on your home screen should successfully change to 3G+, 4G, H, H+, HSPA+ etc. The icon displayed is dependent on the device model. The icon will change if you are in a 4G coverage area.

[GUIDE][No Root][5.0][4.X] Enabling LTE Without Root

EDIT: Clearly now that there are custom ROMs, this will be less likely an issue. But @icheyne pointed out a good method that will work on most ROMs I believe, since it uses Android's default testing menu.
For those seeking a permanent solution, you WILL need root.
Currently no permanent solution on LG Stock Lollipop.
Here is some information about my situation:
-Currently on Fido Network in Canada (LTE Band 7 [2600 MHz])
-I have achieved LTE speeds of 31mbps (Down) and 25mbps (Up).
-I am rooted, but it should work without root access.
-Firmware is stock V10h-TWN-XX
-Network mode only shows GSM / WCDMA
Before you begin, this is what you need:
-An LTE micro sim.
-Do some research on which LTE bands your network uses and if your variant has the ability to use that band.
-Correct LTE APN settings for your mobile carrier. Make sure it is LTE APN, my carrier has two separate ones (Regular, LTE).
-Mobile Network does NOT have to be turned off (You can keep data on during all of this).
-With Mobile Network on, go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and remember what is written under "Mobile network type".
-Make sure you are in a location that has decent LTE connection.
METHOD FOR LG STOCK LOLLIPOP
1) Open up your Dialer, and type in the following to enter LG's Hidden Menu: "3845*#855#" for D855 (If your model is not listed, please do Google it!)
"3845*#850#" for D850
"3845*#851#" for D851
"3845*#852#" for D852
2) Go down and select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
3) Now select "RAT Selection" and click on "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
4) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
5) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
Currently no permanent solution, each time you reboot, switch to 2G/3G, or go into "Mobile Networks" menu, you will lose LTE
But it's okay, redoing steps 1 to 3 will get LTE back once again. Tedious, but at least it works
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK METHOD (Working for all Jelly Bean ROMs & some Lollipop ROMs) (Thanks to @icheyne)
1) Go into Dialer -> Dial *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone Information
2) Scroll down to "Set preferred network type:" and click on the pull-down menu
3) Select what type of setting you want, I personally keep it on "LTE/GSM/WCDMA"
4) Select "LTE-Only" and go into "Modem Settings"
5) Without rebooting, the data icon switched from "H" / "3G" to "4G" for the first time (Turn on Mobile Network if you haven't already)
6) Now go into Settings -> About Phone -> Network and under "Mobile network type" it should have "LTE" instead of what you had before
7) [ROOT][Permanent LTE] For myself, I used a root explorer (ES File Explorer) and go into "/system/app" and delete (or move) LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex. Now you should be able to go into the "Mobile network" menu and it should have the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" setting. Thus making LTE a permanent option.
Those without root access will lose LTE if they restart, switch to 2G/3G, or try to go into the "Mobile network" menu.
If you have any questions, please leave a reply. Hope this helped.
If anyone who cannot get this to work, please post with your details (firmware, carrier, LTE band, etc...).
i have heard some reports that updating some settings in the hidden menu will work, but after restart, it will just go back...hmmm.. this one retains the LTE option?
Yes, after having it on for a few days, restarts, as well as going to an area of weak reception will not affect it. It will sometimes jump back to 3g in weak signal spots (underground), but after I go outside, it will switch to LTE automatically. I should probably update the title since I've learned that this applies to other models as well.
EDIT: @chacho_2me So I found out what breaks the LTE, but it's not major unless you manually switch from LTE to 2g or something like that. Step 11 should say it all, just don't go into the mobile network menu, and you should be fine.
thanks dude..currently im roaming....will try this one when im at home
thank you so much sir.. hope i could help you sometime
I really dont know why LG didnt notice not having the LTE option on othe releases
anyhow...thanks again dude
@chacho_2me Very sorry, I don't know what happened, but unfortunately restarts reverts it back to 2G/3G. But I'll look around to see what I can do to get it to retain, will most likely need root.
If it already states LTE under Settings > About Phone > Network, would you still recommend going ahead with this tweak?
@Curleyyy Are you getting LTE reception though? If you are, then you don't need to do this. This isn't really that much of a tweak, more like just some hidden settings, that's all.
If I'm not mistaken > 2G > 3G >4G > 4G LTE ?? Reception around my place is usually 3G with a bit of 4G occasionally.
@Curleyyy In terms of speed, LTE is currently the fastest. But reception wise, it might not be the best choice. If you are in an area with poor 4G/LTE reception, it is best to go with 3G connection. If you like to find out exactly which regions have 4G/LTE, I'm sure your carrier will have that information on their website.
Thank you so much
It's working fine on Fido. A heartfelt Thank you
Cheers
I found a solution that doesn't require knowledge of the network's LTE bands:
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Click Phone Information
Scroll down the page to the GSM/WCDMA dropdown.
Select LTE/GSM/WCDMA - the data icon should switch from H or 3G to 4G.
[ROOT ONLY] Using a root file manager (ES File Explorer) go into "/system/app" and rename LteConfigs.apk and LteConfigs.odex to LteConfigs.apk.bak and LteConfigs.odex.bak
Reboot
Go to Settings -> Tethering & networks -> Mobile Networks → Network Mode and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
@icheyne I confirm that works, I will change the post.

Oh dear, that's inconvenient. I don't have lollipop installed yet, since it's been quite busy for me and I need my phone. I will try to update the guide for Lollipop.
When I can test it personally, but for now, if you could try to surf the forums. I am short on time lately, I do apologize.

On mine, only the .apk file was present, not the .odex file. I have flashed a stock-based lollipop rom. I renamed the .apk file and the lte was added to the mobile networks menu, but my phone is still not connecting to lte .
It is correct, the "phone information" menu loads on lollipop, but an error message pops up overtop and you can't get to the settings due to this.
I sure hope I can get this working or I'm going to have to get a different device!
@vinistois Thank you for reminding me about this. I do apologize in advance for not keeping up with this as I am still sticking with JB for the time being. I just flashed L to try to clear things up. Are you currently rooted? And do you have the D855 model?

3g and 4g problem

hi,
i bought a yureka, everything is great. its just that i'm unable to use 3G or LTE on my device.
it always shows edge. on my device. and runs 2G
in mobile networks preferred network type is LTE. and i have LTE service in my area.
on phone info *#*#4636#*#* By default the preferred network comes as LTE/GSM auto(PRL) and network type shows EDGE.
i have tried changing the preferred network to WCDMA preferred, then radio on/off, still network type shows as EDGE.
Plz guys.....I hope u can solve this problem....the sim is perfectly working in other phones!!!!
Hi,
What you need to do is as follows:
1) Put your LTE Sim in Sim 1 Slot
2) in Sim settings for Sim 1 select LTE preferred - for 4G
If you want to use 3G then select 3G
3) dial *#*#4636#*#*
4) select - WCDMA Only - for 3g
Select - LTE only - for Lte network ( when u select lte/ gsm auto it will revert back to edge if no proper LTE signal is available)
Now you are good to go. You don't need to change the sim settings if your reboot. But you need to change the settings in phone info everytime you reboot as it will reset to LTE / GSM Auto prl.

Network trouble with A9 Pro (a910f) Either making calls or using 4g

Hello Xda community
i recently bought a9 pro a910f international version from Aliexpress
the first thing i did is updating the software via ota from originally nogut to
also nogut but apparently a small update.
My problem is i can get only 4g/lte but i cant make or receive any calls ???
if i switched from network mode to GSM Only i could make calls but i lose internet.7
i have Lycamobile sim card , i live in Belgium
do you think its fault in software , i already flashed and downgraded and upgraded through
odin and using original firmware without any luck
i think its band issue maybe a9 pro is not compatible with my service provider
but i am not expert there
Help please
Sir you can download other firnware that works on you country and flash via ODIN is easy or just flash other modem but need more instructions
Thank you very much for your reply
I tried 3 original firmwares so far but no use.
You said something about modem ?
I have no idea about that ? Is it not already in the firmware ?
I flashed 2 firmwares: Malaysia and India using 4 files method with odin.
But with no use.
I will try to flash all other regions .
But i think it could be hardware fault?
To make or receive calls on 4G, at least one of these have to be working:
CSFB (circuit switched fall back) from 4G, where CS is not available, to 3G or 2G;
VoLTE/IMS (voice over LTE,4G);
VoIP software...
Below: 4G=LTE, 3G=UMTS/WCDMA, 2G=GSM. Those are 3 RATs, selecting only one is sometimes "RAT lock".
4636 can usually be opened without root.
Set network to 4G/3G/2G in the settings app, not 4G(LTE) only.
Set network to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) in 4636, should also CS to 2G.
Set network to LTE/WCDMA in 4636. (4G/3G).
Check CSC features for anything related to this, remove or modify if rooted.
Check current CSC, install, open stock recovery.
Install CSC with VoLTE (IMS 'APN') set up for the mobile network operator, if available.
Disable VoLTE provisioned in 4636 if it's not available?
CS could be disabled in the menu, probably not, (*#2683662#, etc) Example, in this example CS is disabled, leaving only PS (data). (Exynos! Likely differs on Snapdragon) UE Setting and Information > Setting > Protocol > NAS > CEMODE Setting > [3]CEMODE0(PSonly/DC)(*), UE Setting and Information > Setting > Protocol > NAS > Network Control > SERVICE DOMAIN > [3] PS ONLY. Edit: it works on GSM.
Ask the mobile virtual network operator about "circuit switched fall back", have the question elevated to the ones higher in position.
Etc.

4636 is basically a menu that comes with Android that allows the selection of network modes for SIM 1, including those that are not available in the usual settings. It has a few other features, but it's not relevant to this. On Samsung (Gingerbread, etc) , it was previously launched by *#*#4636*#*# in the phone app, like other devices. In the network mode "LTE only"/"4G only", calls by circuit switched fall back aren't available (can't automatically switch to 3G or 2G). If it's not changeable in the usual settings, look for it there.
How to open it? Well, there are many apps that open 4636, both with, and without root. Not necessarily the menu before it "Testing".
What to Google... anything above?
thank you for your efforts trying to help me
