Soft buttons can be turned on independently - Galaxy S I9000 General

I'm sorry if i'm posting in the wrong section.
Just wanted to say that i had a little lag while deleting some apps and in that time only the "back button" was lit.
Just saying that, because i read somewhere here that this is not possible due to the way the buttons are controlled.
Please don't kill me if this was nothing worth of posting

Touch to wake up

OK this may be a really dumb question but here goes...
I hate having to press the power button to wake the device up. It's a two-handed job and really annoys me. Is it possible to have to device wake up by tapping the screen? I would then have the S2U2 screen displayed where you can unlock with a swipe. This would prevent it from unlocking in your pocket.

i have the same quastion
i hope theur is somewone that can help us out
I would like that way, too.
Not knocking your question in anyway, but I have no problem with waking up the phone with one hand :S
I agree with this. the annoyance is that the power button is so hard to access. I always get the feeling that i am wearing out the button, so i release the stylus to awake the phone.
I do know that there is a tool to awake the phone using the ambient light sensor if that helps.
look at this one

The power button is not hard to press, you just need to press it on its left part!

that is not the problem,if i want i can turn the phone on with my ....ck.
the problem is after 1 year pushing the power button (10000 times) he will be dead.
the same as my p3600.
and dont forget the battery
this annoys me aswell,
unfortunately i don't think the solution to this is simple
we also have a topic on the same problem in Q&A section because this is not only related to HD but to all wm6 devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448355
is the volume bar can also wakes up the HD ?
I believe we should wake up microsoft to make a patch or an update or something about it.
If a general poll be posted i believe all the wm users would like - want this feature.
and maybe the admins as the xda community could declare our statement to microsoft.
What do you think?
ok how do we do a poll?
easy allready done go there...

and let's see....

phone is on but wont 'wake up'

when you press the hangup button it will turn the screen off, and may or may not lock it..

Doesnt seem to be the same, sometimes if i hold the power button, and then push windows button it will randomy work, and its still on as the keyboard lights react to button pressing....
Personally I would give it a go. If it doesn't work then you can assume that its something else, maybe a hardware failure.
What software have you loaded on recently? How much memory have you got free at the moment? If you have a load of software loaded up are they all loaded onto the device memory or the external card? Are you sure you don't have a software conflict going on?
As you can see there are many factors that could be in play here. Notification queue lockups are a biggie. If you eliminate this from the equation then you can start to eliminate the others from it too.
Hope this helps.

I've had this problem a few times, and I do only mean about 3 times since I got the phone, so I don't sweat over it.
I've had to pop the battery out each time except once, where a long-press on the power/end-call button brought the display on.
I'm guessing it's nothing to really worry about, unless of course it happens a lot.

hello all. Im a use rof an old spv. and just got my new HTC HD2
a few questions if i may? i can't figure out and ive been trying since last night, i've searched google high and low as well and called tmobile.
1. the phone when it dims and then goes to sleep, i have to always press a hard button then slide the lock to unlock... is there away to disablehaving to press a hardbutton? it gets really annoying having to press ahardbutton every minute when the phone goes to sleep!
2. when the phone dims after 10 seconds is there a way to set it up so that your first press just undims the screen and doesnt actually press whats under neath it?
3. ive read all over google about the gesture feature, ive asked tmobile. and i cannot get my phone to do any gestures what so ever. ive download and installed the shake and wake and still nothing. i download a program called pocketshield and that completelly locked me out of phone becuase when i shook it it wouldnt turn on i had to take off battery wait a minute and then replace the battery then uninstall the app.
4.the media players.. ive tried coreplayer, windows media player, pocketplayer, the one that plays the most files is coreplayer.. ive noticed in fullscreen mode there are no buttons? everytime i tap the screen ti brings me back to portrait view... is there any recomendaions for a player similiar to core player that has controls on the big screen in landscape view? and that offers all the features coreplayer does? eq, visualizations, plays as many file types etc...
5. ive looked everywhere on how to change email icons the envelopes.. is there away to change those or do we just have to remember the order of the email icons?
thanks for any help or light you guys can shed! i really hope some of these issues can beresolved. i feel ive exhausted my xda, google searching, and phone settings searching.
1. It would consume lots of battery power to constantly monitor the touch screen. You can increase the amount of time before it goes to sleep.
ok i'll just have to deal with it an dwill raise the time.. ty for reply.. anyone else on the other questions please?
TY in advance
could anyone one confirm that the hd2 from the usa allows for shaking? ive rest phone and it doesnt work called tmobile and they have no clue! i'd liek to get me phone to be able to work with gestures.
Thanks
let me rephrase. does anyone know if the htc hd2 has... Windows Mobile phone with a tilt sensor / accelerometer/ g-sensor. or the ability to shake it and it will wake up?
thank you
It has an accelerometer, but there's NO shake to wake up.
Only way to wake up is to press a hard button.
5. if you mean the dirrerent e-mail accounts in sense, when you press on the "slider" that's on the active account and drag it, its expands to the left and shows the account name.
ok.. then what about the posts here about shaking it and tilting it? and what about pocketshield saying that you can shake it, and this link as well?
http://www.mobinauts.com/topic/110094-shake-to-wake-up-your-htc-hd2/
thanks for your reply!!!!. it's like pulling teeth in this forum very tough to get replies!
Apparently the shake to wake is a somewhat "experimental" add-on someone on here made and abandoned, works for some and not for others... nothing official, normal that tmo have no clue about it.
No idea about pocketshield, haven't read reports about that particular function on the HD2. Not very popular apparently, so you'll have to try yourself.
TMO support will help you about what was on your HD2 when you got it, nothing else that you'd install later.
thanx for reply.. well that pocketshield can be dangerous for some.luckily when ya replace battery it brings back the default slider. otherwise people would be locked out of there phones.
one last question and i promise to stay away for awhile.
how to u turn your backlight back on? example you have it set to dim after a minute. and your app. is there a way to undim the phone? instead of clicking on the screen or touching a button and it recognizing your touch and undimming it and selecting whatever you touched? i'd liek to be able to just touch something and it would undim and not select something underneath where i touched.
thanks
Not that I know of. It's been so with every touchsceen device I've ever had, need to either press a hardware key, which usually will do something too, or touch the screen and try to tap in an empty place.
Personally I don't use dim, I've set both dim and turn off to 1min.

That's because this is a developers' site, not a phone support forum.
Discussions are for developing programs, apps and other fun stuff.
If you want tech support there's many forums out there.
You should not be asking questions on here, about how to use your new T-Mobile HD2. I'm surprised your thread has not been locked.

Of course it won't turn on by shaking, phone must be ON for any gesture to be recognized. It is the hardware nature of these type of phones(you always need to press the hardkey, unless it is the phone turning on by itself).
Now, if you meant it didn't unlock when shaking after power on then maybe your g-sensor is not calibrated or you were doing the movement wrong. Take a look at minute 1:20, see how the movement is done:

I'll let you know if it happens again.

Oh sorry for posting in the wrong thread.
I will keep checking too. So far it works but haven't changed nothing.not even a restart so far.
Let's see what happens
Sent from my SM-N9005
The volume rocker controls the ringer/vibrate function. For example, if you set the phone to silent and then start pressing the volume rocker up, it will cycle through vibrate and then return to normal volume. So it may be that you pressed the volume up button by accident. You can only do this when the screen is on (but even on the lock screen), so maybe the phone was in your pocket and buttons got pressed.
Hi.thanks for your advice. But phone was only resting on my table and it never happened to me even with my note 2 at all the time. So far it seems fine...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did you ever figure out what caused this? I'm having it on my Galaxy S9+.

[Q] My Phone Keeps Beeping

I just recently bought my Note 4, and have to say it is the single best phone I have ever owned lol. I am still trying to learn about it. I mean it is Rooted and I do not even know what that means LOL
Anyways the reason I joined is because I need help. This has been happen off and on, my phone keeps beeping every time I shake my phone. I did not know you can shake the phone and even have it do anything (I need to really learn more about my phone haha). When I am out walking the beep drives me bonkers! It will even bleep during the start of a phone call. I recorded the sound and really hope that I can upload it.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I am sure it is just something simple, but I am not seeing it
Hi there,
A simple Google search brings me here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/282858-2-tone-beep-sound-constantly-playing.html
Did you try turning off NFC to see if this causes the problem?
(This doesn't seem to happen on my handset when turned on btw.)
Else turn off Orientation Lock maybe?
(Seeing the fact you say it occurs more when you move or shake your handset.)
Question: Does the sound also play if the profile is on silent mode?
Kind regards, Stefan.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question
I came across that same thread when I was searching for answers before coming here. It did not find it relevant because my NFC is not on.
I was able to kind of see a screen before silly me accidentally hit the back button. I did not see the name of the app, but it was a white background with a picture of an orange mic and switch on the bottom in orange that says sonar. There was probably other things on the page but that is all I saw for the split second I saw the screen. Then it is after it started doing the beeping. When I look at my apps the only ones I have that have anything to do with my mic is S Voice, Voice Recorder and Voice Search, and not one of them are what I saw. The beeping I am hearing same kind of sound I would hear if I tap Voice Search, but that is not what is causing the beeps.
Hi again,
It does sound like the Voice Search beep, but it seems different.
You could try to disable double tap home for Svoice but I doubt if it would work:
Double tap the home button to*open S Voice.
Press the menu button in the top right of the app.
Tap “Settings.”Uncheck “Open via the home key.”
Did you check the screen orientation lock yet?
I assume you have rebooted your handset right?
Kind regards, Stefan.
We are becoming fast friends! LOL
Yes it does sound the voice search, and it does go away after I reboot my phone, I would just really like to know what this is though so I can try to prevent it from happening or turn it off when it does happen.
Again, thank you so much for caring enough to try and help me.
An other thing that ia worth mentioning is under:
Accessibility these is: direct acces.
When enabled it enables certain user set options by 3x pressing the home button.
But I could not find any option that enabled this beeping.
It could very well be a third party app causing it.
Anyways good luck, maybe anyone else has some input.
Kind regards, Stefan.
You might try safe mode to see if an app is causing it. It will temporarily disable all non-system apps. See if that fixes it. If so, it is an app you installed. m.androidcentral (I can't post links yet so change this to a '.') com/galaxy-note-4-safe-mode
