My tracks will hardly ever work correctly. Sometimes the phone locks up and the screen is black with bottom buttons lit up, does a soft reboot and begins media scanner. Sometimes it will record half the track and then never be able to acquire a signal for hours.

I had my phone reboot twice because of the GPS. Once using Maps and the other time using Google Earth.
I got mine 3 days ago. used the gps yesterday going home from work. It locked on in 45 sec's drove about 6 miles(15 mile trip). Lost gps signal and never restored. Today Tried to use it to go to work. Locked on in 55 Sec's typed in destination but as I began typing all the text turned into chinese characters. as i typed more then it posted address in england. at the very end it found the correct address. tapped on go and lost my gps signal.

You need an option that says: "I think my GPS works fine, but in all candor I really wouldn't know how to tell if it didn't."

I had the "GPS fix" applied as soon as I got it so I never tested if the fix actually made it work or it was already working. I have NO data plan on it so wireless doesn't get me any locations .
GPS takes about 2-3 minutes to determine location from a cold boot (which I find is just fine) after which it is ROCK solid and dead on accurate until I turn it off.

Dude, then you have GPS issues. It shouldnt take 2-3 minutes to find your location...

yeah, actually it can, especially when he said he has no data plan, and thus has to wait for TTF and has said specifically that it's 2-3 minutes for a cold TTF. he also made no mention of his surroundings that may also affect cold TTF.
now if he said it was a hot fix, then there would be reason for concern.
Mine seems to work well right after a boot. Sometimes when I try to navigate after the phone has been on sometimes the phone will lock and reboot automatically. Sometimes It just never locks.
Last time I was not able to get a lock I started TeleNav, then quit the program at the point when it asks if I want to start my free trial. Then maps/navigate started working again.
This is with the "fix" by the way. Rarely was able to get a lock after boot before the fix.
Everything is stock and I picked up my device on day one. Don't have the box in front of me for the actual ship date.

This goes for me too - have only had it a couple of days, but it seems to work mostly just fine. Sometimes very accurate (2-3 meters), other times less so. Tested it driving around and it had me locked the whole way. Google earth did freeze and lock up my phone once, so I had to pull the battery, but that's about it. It doesn't work well in my house, but I barely get service inside, so that's no surprise - but it doesn't seem to work as well as my brother's G1, or at least the one time I tried this afternoon. So overall it seems okay.
My info is the same as everyone else's - stock, not rooted, 2.1 update 1, same baseband, etc. Ship date on the box is 7/21/2010.
I am running stock and not even rooted.
I got mine at Fry's (Plano) last Sunday.
Work like a champ since day one.
I am so glad my GPS is working fine without issue.
Sorry for those folks who have problem with their GPS, you should have return and exchange for a new one.
If the GPS issue is still there after the exchange, then it's probably your geographic location?
Just a guess.

Now that we have a way to install NoDo (if dev unlocked or via Chevron), I wanted to start a thread of unannounced fixes for the Focus.
My list so far. Feel free to post others in the thread and I'll try to update this post.
I can now use my phone with it laying on the couch, a pillow, etc. - Confirmed by others.
Not really a fix, but good news - The Chevron unlock persists through the upgrade (As long as you don't perform a hard reset).
Possible Zune audio improvement (more depth to the audio and louder). More testing to follow and need confirmation from others.

Just tested it out for thirty minutes on sofa and a pillow. Check. What else you got?
Do either of you have SD cards installed? I think the obvious test would be to deactivate any registry hacks you may have done and see if the performance drops again.
my question is does this help the sd card situation
I know thats a question and not a confirmation of a fix.....

Have never done those hacks. I also did a hard reset last night as well. I don't know what issues you and TOA Duck are talking about with the SD card. Ever since people started using the vol down, camera, and power method I haven't heard of any problems. I've done it for four people. A 32GB, two 16GB, and a 8 GB card.
what's the story on the audio? i don't have the update yet, and my focus has some light distortion when listening through headphones. does this fix that at all?

Never had distortion in the headphones before the update. I'm sorry, I had some static a couple of times, but it was coming from the wire of the headphones swinging back and forth. If your issues is the phone then I don't know.

sorry but have you been living under a rock.
The sd card problems start after you get past the 8 gig mark. For a good test, filled up to almost completion. If you havent filled the capacity up to where it is almost full, thats when the problems start.

I would be interested to know if that 32GB user is using more than 8GB of space.
Is there any way you can check your registry settings, or did you not reinstall one of the registry apps after you wiped your phone?
Another fix to check: if either of you have Zune Pass, did you ever experience the stuttering issue where the last second or two of a song will skip and stutter before changing to the next song? If so, can you check to see if it's still happening?

sorry fish I dont have a zune pass
I have 32 GB (Sandisk) with my Focus (unlocked) and I have used more than 20GB and Have Zune Pass, everything was working fine before NoDO update, and now is better with the NoDo update, I haven´t notice the couch thing, but now I am testing it and everything works great.
I am testing the 16 gb Sandisk that I have had all along to see if the NODo helped fix issues. I had to insert card and reformat (I lost my chevron unlock) and I am syncing 18 gb's of stuff to it now.
If it is better in the course of a week or so, I will simply do a restore to 7008 with the card still in it and then unlock agin and re update to NoDo. I hope it is better.
Can any of you also post all the version numbers (OS version and firmware version etc.). I suspect there are more than an simple OS update.
The SD card issue is real (just check out the sticky thread) and very critical and I want to know if that is fixed or not. But unfortunately, it will take a few weeks before we know for sure. It seems the ppl that got the update so far have no clue about this issue or not experience this issue yet. We need those who know how to reproduce the issue to report their results here.

is it software or hardware ! and what is the fix
The answer is all over the forums. But some more information about your device would be helpfull. Ill assume that you are running a stock ROM. Many people have had great success fixing the GPS by flashing to XXKG6 firmware. That worked for me. Give it a go.
sometimes i can get a lock in 30 seconds and sometimes it take 5 mins and that`s with a clear sky, and i have tried must of the gps test apps with downloaded assistance data.

What version firmware version are you running? Do you have a custom ROM installed? Rooted? I to had the exact same issue with my phone. I was running the stock Bell ROM from Canada. Firmware was MUGKG2 standard on Bell/Virgin Phone. I rooted my phone with CF roots available for KG2 and had used all the GPS data tools that I could find. Then I flashed my phone with Cognition ROM which is using XXKG6 and BOOM GPS working. I found all this on this very forum. I will search and and post it for those who cant find it.

In order to get the most help possible instead of saying not work, why don't you say what you tried to do, what happened when you tried, and then say it didn't work. That way you can get the most help as possible.
Update your firmware to a newer version.
I did install :
GPS Status app and the Faster Fix app.
point Faster Fix app to Asia.
restart the phone
open the "GPS Status" and open google maps !
still the locator blinking for more than 30 min !
Thank you
Try updating your firmware. As i stated I tried everything as well. It wasnt until I updated the firmware did I get consistant GPS connections.

Mine locks within 5 secs without any firmware change, a Galaxy S II right out of the box. Maybe you're in a place without much satellites or you're indoors? Or maybe there's a malfunction with your network an A-GPS.
Hi I had the same problem - GPS could see plenty of satellites but would not get a "fix".
I then rebooted the phone and then within a few sec it could get a fix even indoor.
So try to reboot.

Hi guys,
I'm totally confused and frustrated.
I used Runkeeper on my first Atrix succesfully for 6-months - the Atrix then died and I had it replaced. The new Atrix still worked brilliantly, getting a GPS lock almost immediately, but over the last month or so, the CPS seems to be all over the shop.
It takes an age to lock on and then the accuracy has dropped off.
couple of thoughts:
1) I use Google Latitude, it also worked flawlessly on my first Atrix, but the new Atrix didn't update my position on Latitude anywhere near as well as the first Atrix from day one.
2) I installed the Great Land Grab and also MapMyRide a few weeks ago - these worked really well first of all, but in the last month have been rubbish - not seeming to get a GPS position without endless rebooting and restarting of Apps etc.
3 Using GPS status - if I stand in a middle of a field, reset the datat and download new data - the quickest I can get a GPS fix recently has been circa 50 seconds - I've no idea what the time was before this all started happening.
Is there anything else I can do other than reformat the phone (I've already removed MapMy ride and several other fringe apps that I thought may have had a gingerbread issue or similar)
Cheers
Wilf
If this is a question then use Q&A section and if its not then plz give little more info like ROM, Kernel, Bootloader (locked or unlocked) and finally plz dont take this the wrong way but have u used the search option of xda-developers. Trust me its free and fast and if u use it correctly ull find out that almost 95% of the problems u might have are already addressed.
Start reading up on the different radios available for the Atrix. I have read some since my gps takes a while to lock on too. Reports of increased gps fixed times seem to be rampant if you find the right radio for you.
I had exactly the same problem and solved with flashing 36p radio. Now GPS lock is in few seconds with all satellite visible and accuracy is great.

Original uploader made it private for some reason. I uploaded it again on my account: http://www.mediafire.com/?7y8k6f6797bw3bf
In my previously post you can find link for servers where is hosted a lot of radio and other files. Currently is down.
I did exactly what Zeljko1234 said and I will test out the 36p baseband on my lunch break with GPS Status and see how long it takes. This morning in my car it took 143 seconds.
37P did the trick. GPS lock in like 6s or less all the time now.
36p vs 37p
I'm using baseband 36p currently and the gps has worked flawlessly, my girlfriend has an unrooted atrix which is on 37p and was having major issues with finding location on maps, so I figured maybe is was the baseband. I switched my rooted atrix over to 37p and didn't have any problems with GPS either. Then she insisted it has to be a hardware problem, I figured "user error" was more likely, but instead of pointing that out I wiped her data on maps and BAM! her location updated for the first time in 5 weeks.
How did you wipe the data?
And which data exactly?
Is baseband 36 or 37 better for GPS ?
What's the best one?

I just went into manage apps and cleared data for maps in there. I have been using 36, but they both seem very stable.

Hi All,
I've just purchased another Nexus S (I had two already) but this time second hand. This one however is doing some odd things. I've used Nexus S's since it was released so have a feeling for them. It does thing like:
- Rings with incoming calls but stays on lock screen.
- Has incoming calls but doesn't ring
- Freezing on the home screen & not getting touch input
- General oddities
First thing I'd guess would be to think it was dropped or damaged in some way but it's spotless, just the usual scratches or scuffs you'd expect on a 2nd hand phone. Box & everything look genuine, compared it with the other phones and it look all fine. I've done a reset of the software back to default (using in Phone reset) but still doing odd things.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to find out what is going on here, is there some sort of system self check I can run to check for internal damage? Fuller system reset I can do? Etc.
Any advice?
Phone details:
Android Version: 4.1.1

GPS? Not sure what you mean, it's active some times, but don't use geo-location features on the phone often.
Root: No, stock updated OTA
Wifi: connected all the time to the same router as my other S's
Clean ESN: I assume so, didn't check, but I'm able to make and receive calls 85% of the time without any issues and very infrequent drops. It doesn't seem to be a network problem more the phone acting up in funny ways.
Cheers,
Mark.

I'd actually prefer to keep this one stock as its being used for work. I've rooted one of my S's, but this new one is being used as a main phone so have not rooted.
I've never flashed back a stock image, can this be done without root? If so, would you be kind enough to point me in the right direction of a walk-through so I can give it a go?

Mark.
Hi,
I'm sorry if it's a trivial question that has been asked million times before -- referring as an exact duplicate is also appreciated.
I have a Galaxy S5 device and I'm experiencing troubles with it with the following symptoms/scenario:
* The device works fine in general.
* The device screen gets totally black if the device turns the screen off after a certain period of time that's configured in Settings.
** The device seems to work though, and to react on awaking with the Power button. A: I assume it works behind the black screen because I can see the bottom buttons highlighted for a while. B: However, I'm not sure what happens if making screenshots the device using adb -- I haven't checked it yet.
** The device cannot reboot within a certain amount of time: up to 30 minutes (boot loop). When the period ends up, the device can boot again.
* If the device gets asleep after pressing the Power button, I can awake it and it works fine.
So, the general rule is to make sure that the device does not gets asleep itself and does not get into "coma".
The workarounds I could find so far:
* Install an app that merely does not let the device sleep so the screen is constantly turned on.
* Increase the sleep timeout up a reasonable amount of time (say, 10 minutes) and not forget to press the Power button within this period.
The question is: why does it happen and how do I resolve this issue? I mean: why does screen not get turned on when I try to awake it after it gets asleep itself?
Android 6, the stock firmware, no root.
Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the feedback. No, never: the scenario I described in the question can happen even after re-flashing a stock firmware (Android 5 or 6 --- the version does not really matter).

Yes, it works when I turn off the screen with power button myself. I can turn on it later even after a long period of time.
But when the screen is off by Android itself (I mean after an inactivity period), then, when I try to turn it on, the device seems to work and even react the screen taps (I guess since I haven't check it with `adb shell screencap` yet). The only difference is that the screen is off in such case, so I can't see anything.

Maybe cleaning your sdcard as well (but I don't know why it should interfere).
Is your problem recent, I mean only existing after your last firmware flash?

I tried to flash another firmwares a few times, but if the device was fine with them, then the describe issue persisted, so it made me think that I was using wrong firmwares. It's hard to say if I have a wrong one now, but it works except of that issue...

No, it's not recent per se: I had a well-working device with stock firmware for very long period, and suddenly got a reboot and forever bootloop. Flashing a new firmware was the only way I could resurrect it more or less. But now the only issue I see is that the device falls into "coma" if I don't press the Power button. Well, it makes me think that something prevents the screen from turning on, and I believe it must be a software issue. ... Or not -- I can't tell, this is where my knowledge is running out.

If I understood you correctly, then it's installed on the device according to the information is posted above. The same happened before I applied the update too, so probably this update doesn't change anything for that.

What you can try is a 3rd app to screen off your screen when you put your phone at horizontaly position and screen on with gestures.
I pm you a link for it.
It won't resolve your problem but can screen your phone off before the delay on settings.
Wait a little then try, then report.
Good luck

Great! Thank you very much! I never had an idea of another way of making the screen off except of "let Android do it" or "let me do it myself" -- a 3rd-party app is to the rescue! That's a brilliant suggestion to work around the issue since it made my eyes got open for totally another solutions. And let Android to be the last one in that screen off queue! Thank you!!

Absolutely, but I'm still impressed by the alternative you suggested. Thanks again.
It can be a Hardware problem, If updated to Latest firmware in correct region, And not worked, Is The Hardware causing this.
