Crisis after firmware update - Galaxy S I9000 General

All my contacts, messages, applications are gone. Is there a way to get them back? i've got my contacts back from samsung kies.. but what about messages? and applications?
help!

If you've made a backup before the flash, yes. Something tells me you didn't..

Root and TitaniumBackup is the way to fly (at least on Galaxy S).

so what about those that dont have root

i use ASTRO to backup my apps, and then MyBackup saves all your settings, msgs, calls, call logs, contacts everything you can think of

Well they usually hide the warnings and instructions in things call threads.

so there is no way of inserting my saved sms from my
PC samsung kies to my phone, right?

well Kies does allow you to backup your sms but not your apps which is crazy so anything you have used on the phone is deleted all your settings the whole works.

No. Kies is useless, don't expect it to do meaningful things like that. If you could convert the sms .sme format to .xml, then maybe we could do something..but I don't think it can be done. Sorry.

Recover SMS

Hey guys. I know this has nothing to do with the phone in general, but since everyone on this site seems to know more about these phones than the manufacturer, I figured I would ask. Is there any way to retreive deleted text messages off of 2.2 OTA update. I really need to get a hold of this information. Thanks in advance
Sms backup and restore. On the market. Stores them in a csv, so you can read them on your pc if ya want
+1 SMS Backup and Restore. Its a free App that is Fantastic and I've been using it for a long time.
if the messages are already deleted, can you retreive them with this app

Good sms backup app

I've been using my backup root but it messes up sometimes with my messeges. It also takes forever. I do have about 10000 sms so does anyone know app that restores the sms quicker right now it takes about 20 minutes just to restore them..

I've been using SMS Backup by AnSoft, it took about 20 seconds to restore approximately 1500 text messages, it also makes a backup of your call history too.
have you tried titanium backup? i use it for everything, including SMS messages. once you restore, reboot and bam, it's all there. has never taken me 20 min to restore my whole backup (apps, settings, messages, etc).
I use and include in my ROM SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel. It backs up SMS messages and call logs to your gmail account at user set intervals. I have mine set to 1 minute after the SMS is received. It nice because you never have to remember to back up your messages. I believe it will restore MMS messages as well. I have titanium backup but I believe this is a much better solution because it is automatic and performs the update soon after the message is received. I don't have to think about going and backing them up everytime one is received like you would with titanium.

look for the green entries. it is the one that says
[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messages 1.00
I think. they show up after you reboot.
+1 titanium backup

Does titanium backup the mms that are in the text message? The backup software i'm using now does not.
I use SMS Backup and Restore. Great app, backups and restores fast but also saves all your texts as an .xml file which you can just go into the app and view it (say, for example, that you were looking for a certain text from a while back) without restoring it.

Not trying to flame anyone here, but why the hell would you need to backup 10000 text messages? Honestly, I don't see why anyone would need to back them up at all. The way I see it, they are old messages and I dont need them. I clear mine out almost every day.

Titanium backup is the choice for me. The only downfall I found is when I backup my system that is running a 4x5 Roise workplace to a 4x4 Rosie workplace. My apps still show up but in area where I can not reach them. Once I install a new 4x5 I am good to go!

I've used titanium backup since day one. It has never let me down. Just make sure you back up your messages before futzing with your phone.
I still can't figure out how to backup text in titanium?

I use Handcent for my messaging program. I paid the small fee for the annual premium service and my settings, SMS, and MMS all get backed up whenever I want to their online servers. I am constantly flashing different ROMS and trying new things with my EVO and have never had a problem restoring my info. You can even backup custom theming you do to your program and backup individual messages to a special "box" for quick retrieval. It's only $9.99 for a whole year.
And no, I don't work for Handcent just been a very happy customer for quite some time!

HELP! Can't receive SMS

Hi guys, i have this huge problem, i can't receive SMS. If i send them to myself there's no problem, but i can't receive them from another one
I've already tried changing phone and the sim works, so guess that's a problem with my SGS2. I've already tried changing modem too
Any advice?

Is there any app that might be interfering? You might try solving it by doing a backup of your data and a factory reset. As a last resort, you could try to flash a different firmware to see if the problem persist. Nevertheless, it is possible that there is a simple solution.

3, from Italy, but it's not a carrier problem, sms receiving worked with a different phone
I had the same problem with mine a few weeks ago. Go to messaging>>press menu>settings>does your message centre have the correct #. I had to contact my carrier for mine.

There are some apps which are intended to block sms spam or to send sms to groups, etc. An Anti-virus or something alike possibly could interfere, depending on how it works.
CWM will probably leave everything exactly as it is now. It is useful if you do a backup with the phone working properly, but in this case it wouldn't be helpful.

That's a pretty handy feature. Running CM7 and had some issues with VVM already and now it's working properly finally. Anything I should know about installing this? Download, click, install?
Back up your VVM data with TB
Uninstall your current VVM, install this with Root Explorer or something similar, use TB to restore Data

That's right, I remember recovering my settings now via TB to get it working once I found the file. Do I really need to use Root Explorer or anything like that since it's an apk? Shouldn't I simply be able to locate the file once downloaded and launch/install it?
Yep. You can do it however you normally do. For me it's Root Explorer or adb

Seems to have worked flawlessly. I deleted a new voicemail and it says it was saved to my deleted folder. How do I access this? I didn't see an option from within VVM but that was before I actually deleted it. Will there be a new option there now or do I have to use a file browser to locate it?
Hit the upper voice mail tab while in the app and there you can delete or review the voice mail on the SD card.

Thanks! I'll check that out next time I get a VM.
I'm using YouMail currently with CM 7.1 stable and I'm frankly sick of YouMail. I've always enjoyed Sprint's VVM. Now that I see that you can save VM's to your SD makes it that much more to be desired.
I tried to load Sprint's VVM APK when I first flashed CM 7.1 but got those rogue 9016 MMS messages and it made me nuts. Hence the move to YouMail.
Let me see if I have this correct: flash back to Sense UI, use TB to back-up Sprint VVM + data. Flash back to CM and download the new APK. Open/run APK and then use TB to restore data?
Also, if this is done correctly, will those phantom 9016 messages no longer appear?

I read somewhere that if you text block 9016 to the number 9999 that it'll block it. I have no idea if that actually works or not.

Go get an app called spc from the market. Its very easy to setup to block the ghost text message.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Flash KushDecks AOSP 2.3.7 ROM, no 9016 message and when you install the new VVM app. It works like a charm..
Just know that if you block the 9016 text entirely then you may not get your voicemails in the app. Happened to me anyway.

[Q] Messaging app super sluggish recently

Hey all, so just recently my messaging app is really slow all of a sudden, like it takes 4 seconds to load the conversations, when I go to reply to a message, it takes 4 seconds to actually pull up the keyboard, and allow text input. I message a lot, so this is extremely annoying cuz I have to wait forever to send one stupid message >.< does anyone know what's wrong or how I could fix this?
Thanks!
Stock messaging app? I know I let my messages build up like without the auto delete on and eventually my messaging app just froze up until I clicked auto delete so it could be due to a lot of messages hope you get it figured it out and this helps a little !

Yeah stock app. But yeah I guess it's cuz of the messages, but idk I cant bring myself to do the auto delete thing, idk why but I can't >.< is there any other way to make it faster? Or is this it?

When the program loads it had to load all those messages into memory. You need to get rid of some. Just go back and delete some by hand.

Isee, so the only way to make it faster is by deleting messages? :/ what if I clear the cache? Shouldn't that make it faster, cuz then it won't load the older messages (cuz there's no need to)? And does clear data delete all the messages?

I honestly don't know because I let my messages get deleted every time I flash a ROM. I would assume clearing the data would delete the messages. If you absolutely MUST hang on to your messages, why not make a backup of them, then go through and delete some or all of the ones in the app? If you need them back, restore the backup.
