[Q] Rebooting in 5 seconds - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Seems as though there are a lot of people asking the same question but not getting any answers. So far EVERY build I have tried fails in the same manner except for dan's original froyo 2.2 which runs perfectly fine but has terrible power consumption and performance compared to other builds such as cm6 or shubcraft. Basically it's getting dumped into Android i.e [A N D R O I D] header and it runs through a load of errors which are impossible to read but I THINK they are kernel panics and stops at rebooting in 5 seconds. Anyone else experienced this?

its either startup.txt file is wrong or zimage is wrong

Stock zImage and STARTUP.TXT straight from the shubcraft 1.2b package. (build of choice). I had to add loop_partition=mmcblk0 to get it to get past that error and it wont actually boot into to linux kernel with any zImage other than it's own.

I got same problem "rebooting in 5 seconds" by using below version
mattc Leo froyo 1.5
FroyoStone Series V1
shubCRAFT 1.2
But I can use both old version perfectly
mattc Leo froyo 1.4
shubCRAFT 1.1
Also all fullram version of zimage cannot work, I make sure I got correct startup.txt file, but still fail for me...
What is the meaning of "HTC Extended battery" ?
My battery model: BB81100 1230mAh
It is include when I bought my HD2
Any suggestion?

No extended battery. Stock 1230. The problem is it doesn't even GET to Android. It kernel panics then reboots.
Tried formatting and copying everything over again. No go. Still same problem. I may try another sd but doubt it'll help.
Thanks for the input so far.

have you placed the android rom into a folder called android? not in the root of the memory card?

Yeah no problems there. I've done this with all the builds. It's finding the files no problem mate. It's crashing when opening system.img I think, seeing as though that's where it gets to.

Ayilm1,
you can add mem=336M in set cmdline.

Does that replace loop_partition? or just (space after mmcblk0 then) mem=336M

What zImage you are using? I am using DarkstoneFroyo build 26.07. and latest zImage and from http://htcleo.noobhands.net/manusfreedom/. Download zImage all files.zip.
I had a lots of problems with android builds and I think it's all due RAM memory being defective on my Euro T8585. So, with every build I had to add mem=xxxM to get it to work.
Off course, such a RAM won't let me play with TMOUS ROMs(576MB) and I had to use Artemis (with additional tweaks). Also with this I can't get size of RAM others can get.(128MB less).

I'm using the stock zImage that comes with the 1.2b build because that's the only one that boots this far. ANY other zImage crashes as the kernel release. Where should I put the mem=336M? Should that replace the loop_partition statement?

Alright WTF???!!! Excuse the language but this is really starting to annoy me. So far, I have tried 1.2, 1.2a, 1.2b AND the latest 1.3. All of them have the same rebooting in 5 seconds issue. I am really starting to get annoyed. I think this is actually a kernel issue rather than anything else as none of the zImages other than the one in the original pack work. All fail to load the kernel.

Never mind. Solved I guess. Gave up and used the froyostone sense build instead. Working fine now.

Perfect WM and Android Combination. NO ECHO OR SOD! Updated: 8/7/10

First i want to say thanks to all the developers that got involved to make this possible. Their hard work and sleepless nights are greatly appreciated.
I tried so many combinations of ROM's and Radio's that i gave up and nearly lost hope until a friend of mine at work found the perfect combination of Windows Mobile and Android to load on the US Tmobile HD2. Maybe i should buy him lunch tomorrow .
I think many are experiencing the issues i had, soooo.... I wanted to share this information and show you all little lost sheep out there how to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to start from scratch, meaning from the factory ROM on the phone, then do what i did and follow the instructions below in the same order i performed them. If you are savvy enough to follow along without starting from a stock ROM, then more power to you. These steps are for the dummies like me who are out there and cant follow instructions.
Again this is for the US-TMobile HD2's. I dont know that this will work for the EU HD2's. Try at your own risk.
Step 1
Install the TMO Stock ROM. Click Here
Step 2
Root your TMO Stock ROM by installing 2.08.HardSPL. Click Here
Step 3
Install Energy's "Stardard-Energy" ROM located on the US TMO forum but for your convenience.... Click Here
Step 4
Install Radio version 2.12.50.02.2. Click Here
Step 5
Copy shubCRAFT's "Android" folder to the root of your SD Card. Click Here
- (I edited the startup file to prevent the "cant access tty; job control turned off " error message, therefore this install should be plug and play.
- When the copy is complete, place the SD CARD back in your phone if not already, and run clrcad & haret from the Storage card.
- You can also use the auto boot loader .cab file on your WM rom to autoload Android. Click Here
Updated: 8/7/10
For those of you who are having issues and don't know how to modify the startup.txt file. Here is a copy of the startup.txt file without the "loop_partition=mmcblk0" command line. Click Here
Just copy the file to the Android folder and overwrite the existing one and you should be all set.
Step 6
Here is a new 1GB userdata.img download link. Click Here
The old one was giving issues with texting. If you guys want a bigger userdata file let me know. This will also fix any download issues from the Market and prevent low disk space errors when attempting to install an application from the SD card.
Update: 8/7/10
Here is a 4GB userdata.img for the ones that wanted a bigger file. Click Here
I'll have to try this. Keep having the static/echo problem no matter what radio I use. Currently I'm running ChuckyROMS and dan1j3l's Froyo build. Got one more radio to try and if that doesn't work, oh well, I'll try this combo.
As far as I remember I am using ChuckyDroid and Radio 12_50.2 and matt latest version and no echo/sod since yesterday and got about 20 hours out of battery life. Must mention I use the phone "alot" so my battery drains accordingly

Working perfectly, no robotic voice
the new zimage is what kills the echo, nothing magical about it.
Frustrating!
Even with the new zimage, clean SD, I still get robo-voice. I refuse to clean out my stock TMOUS ROM / radio though...there has to be a fix that doesn't require me to do HSPL....(i own a mac...is there an easy way to do HSPL on a mac?)

U don'nt have to HSPL again to install the Radio, and neither will u lose any data, so just go ahead if an new radio will help resolving the robo-voise
Does flashing the stock tmo rom first really make a difference? I've flashed like crazy to get the best combo but haven't had the stock rom since I first flashed.
No matter what I do I'm still getting massive background noise (mic gain?) downloading energy + shubcraft now, let's see if this does it!
I can't say its perfect... it seems clear... just very low volume.. I do love how well this is all coming along!! what 2 weeks and it almost totally usable ?!?!

Its not the rom but the audio driver that the rom uses. Look for robotic sound problem thread in this section for the files.

You know guys, I really gotta say this. I think its really mestup that when you try to download the "Standard-Energy Rom" they give you the option to either pay them for a fast download or suffer through their agravating super slow download that they intentionally made that way for who ever doesnt wanna pay up.
I noticed the "Affiliate Program" they have which for those of you who dont know, it just means that every time someone goes and pays for the "super fast download", there is someone behind the scene getting paid for making you pay. That someone is usually the one who provides the link to that website.
Why am I exposing this? because who ever is doing this should at least have the curtesy to let us know it is NOT free to download and HE will make money when you choose to pay, not just thinking he's fooling people to a comission- which he is.
The last time I tried downloading for free, it took 2 1/2 hours and at the end I got a little "Error" message saying there was a problem downloading and the download could not be completed. - .. as expected for not paying up right?
How do I know this, because I AM an "Affiliate Marketer". I know how this stuff works, but I dont work this way.
has anyone realized this is a emulator .....lmao

Yeah you got it, thats the only "magical" thing. With the last Radio all Echos are gone and the Bad Backround noises too.
No one must try diff ROM and Radios anymore.
I use the Original 1.66 Stock ROM and Darkstones Desire v5 (my absolute favorit) and with the latest zimage the last Soundproblems are solved.
I only wait for GPS works in the v5, coz than it is the perfect build.
Thank you for this post! Very helpful

did u check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737936
applies to stock roms also, flash a 2.10 rom
ROMeOS has been updated to v4.17 expressly for Android Compatibility

Need some help with an Andoird build for my dad.

Hi
First off all I want to say: I can probably find everything here in the forum but I'll spend hours and hours reading and most off the time I'll read useless info that I don't need so if you have the knowledge and it just takes 5 minutes to share it please help me out I'll be thankful.
I myself have a HTC legend and have read LOTS off posts before finally rooting and flashing custom roms. Now my dad has asked me if I could help him to get android on his HD2.
He needs to be able to sync his agenda with outlook (for work (Calendar and contacts) I read something about HTC sync should be working on newer kernels is it included in some builds then?), and have a stable build (its not a ROM if I'm correct?) one that he could use for daily use. Don't need anything too special (not even root but its not a problem if it does have root access)
So I've started reading around in the development section and from what I read I don't need to root or flash anything, just extract a zip to the SD and name it Android. Is that correct? (then why do you have special android roms?)
So is there someone who can link me to a good stable (no OC kernels and stuff please) Android Build and tell me if there are known bugs with HD2 builds that don't get mentioned in those threats because they are known as general knowledge.
Thanks in advance
If I could ever help you back with HTC legend problem or something I'll gladly do it for you.
grts
Jonas (sorry for the pour English it's not my main language)
I'm reading topics and If I find answers I'll update this but please if you have the knowledge to help me in a few minutes PLEASE do so.
Never mind found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782930
and solved most of my questions looks like its not as fully operating as I thought :s.
So It's not just as easy as unzipping and renaming that would have been too easy.
It isn't very complicated to run android on the HD2. I don't know what feature you suspect isn't working that scared you from attempting. Every feature I could want is working. You also don't need to sacrifice windows mobile if you try android. Give it a shot and post again if you have trouble.
Problem is that I need to root and flash other wm Rom if I want everything to work as it should. Or isn't that really necessary? I'll just try a build and see what it does. Thx for th reply

if you have to hspl your hd2 depends on your stock radio rom version. it should be a newer one like 2.10 or 2.12 to avoid most issues with android. flashing another winmo rom is only necessary if you have robot voice and/or faster playback of music (just to mention 2 problems)... you don't have anything to loose if you try android from stock hd2. if it's not working fine, you may think of flashing a new radio and/or rom!
So if I unzip the file I can dowload here put it into android folder in the root of my SD, I'm good to go? What about that kernel do I need to flash it??
if he uses it for work then i'd suggest laying off android for now
he could still use the WM? It's just like a program no? So by just removing the folder it would be back to normal?

You basically reboot the phone and it goes back to wmo. Its almost like running a live linux cd...
When you run HaRet Android takes over the phone. When you reboot it will come back to WinMo. Then you run HaRet again and you back in Android. And so on. WinMo 'lives' on the phone, Android on sd.
So the kernel they are talking about is a fake kernel? (not flashed to the actual ROM)
So if anything goes wrong at first boot with the android I can just pull out the battery without bricking the phone?

Its not a fake kernel...it is real but it resides on the sd card so your original wmo stuff will still be there in case you ever need to use wmo again.

You s should start your own thread. There are many different unlock so specify which one you're after, sim unlock? This section is only for android so if you need help on something else, post it in the hd2 general section, not here. Unless it is android related, you won't find help here.
Ok so if I install this:

You are correct.
If it doesnt work for you just erase the android folder. I would recommend flashing hard spl, and changing your radio to 2.12.50.02_2. Then load the hyperdroid 1.6 rom. You will have the best luck with that probably without having to change anything in winmo.

I'd recommend using a spare SD card. When you run Android it creates a ton of folders on it, so it's easier to have a dedicated one than to try and delete everything later (if he decides not to stick with Android).
Also, I read through the thread and couldn't see anywhere... did you tell us what radio is on the HD2? It needs to be (I believe) 2.08 or higher, and it's VERY recommended to have a 2.x.50 and not a 2.x.51 radio.
If you flash a 2.x.51 radio on a t-mobile US HD2 you will brick it. Try flashing radio 2.12.50.02_2

Yeah dno the radio version or the bootloader version.
Do i need root to see that?? Is it just booting while pressing volume down to get the bootloader and the info I need?
Also I read that the HyperDroidV1.6 is overclocked and undervolted and I drather not do that. Just want it as stable as can be. (I know my overclocked legend is stable but if he has a really crappy processor,..)
BTW: I know what overclocking does but what's good about undervolting?? better batterylife?
I think I'll just give this a try this weekend (when my dad (and his phone xD)are home)

I'm assuming undervolting is for better battery life, but have never bothered with it myself. Just have a read of the most popular Android builds to see which you think will work for you. I can recommend FroyoStone Sense v3.1, but I would because that's what I use!
It's so easy to try the different builds that it's no big deal if you play with one and don't like it, so don't be shy - give em all a go if that's what it takes!
Edit: Just noticed your edit from when I was posting. lol

WiFi Download on FroyoStone Sense 3.1 is verryy slow!

I finally got a new MicroSD card today and am currently running Darkstone's Froyostone Sense 3.1, My WM OS is ChuckyDroidROM 23139, and Radio 2.14.50.04.
My problem is that when I have attempted to download or update any applications on the Market, it is extremely slow. I'm talking 10 maybe 20kbps. Which is not normal over WiFi. Obviously :/
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this ?
Ummm.. Anyone? I have tried to search, but it pulls up searches on every topic that even has the words I search for. Not very useful.
I have the same problem. I searched the forum, asked for help in the Froyostone forum thread, but found no solution yet
Hi. I'm using Banster's 1.5 PPP build. The following thread solved my slow market problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794562&highlight=slow+market
Basically unmount the sd card, then restart market and your speeds should increase significantly (especially with 3g/H, less so with wifi). I'm getting 300-400 kb/sec download on market now.
I unmounted by going into Settings -> SD Card -> Unmount SD card.

[BUILD][11-22-2010][JDMode 1.0][Hastarin R8.4][PPP]

WELCOME TO JDMode!!
About the build
As you guys know, I have a JDMS 1.5 build which is working pretty stable and working nice for me. So, I decided to stick with the defrost base and not drop it, instead, I decided to release another stable builds with different bases. I was looking around and came by this rom by AdamG named Oxygen. Then I decided to work on this rom by adding some tweaks and apps to make it stable for HTC Leo users. AdamG also did really good job adding features. Keep in mind, the rom still in beta, more features will be added later on. Read more about the rom here
Features
FM Radio
Stable PPP connection, no need for an rmnet build...(Thanks to latema)
Fast speed build without lagg or sod
Pretty cool theme
Automatic brightness works 100%
LedMeKnow app included to control led notifications..
There is a lot more to list...
Working
Everything is working for me...
Installition and tips
Extract the Android folder (with all files in in) to root of your SD Card. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
- You canot keep your data.img from other roms... Do a clean install please..(You can try if you want but don't come here crying )
- If you already have an Android folder on your SD Card DELETE IT OR RENAME IT, because this version MAY BE INCOMPATIBILE with older releases !!!
- After copyng everything to your SD Card ensure you have at least 600 Mb free space for data store
- After you have done all steps go into Android folder and tap CLRCAD (for working sound), and after that just tap HaRET.
- On first run when there is an black htc logo, just give it time to complete, and wait for the data.img to be created.
- If you get some strange errors, or Android does not work, try to reformat SD card and try everything from the start.
If that does not help, I suggest you to change your rom and radio with my personal ones(Check my siggy!!!)

Its not cm6 nor EB, its based on oxygen base by AdamG. You've learned how to update your kernels already...

No, description says 'Oxygen' based, not CM6.
By the way, I kinda dig the theme. I's a bit overdone here and there, but it's got some really nice elements! Gonna stick with JDMS for now though, don't wanna give up on the CM features.
im just kidding
we like u man !!! thanks !

I haven't tried either of atoore's builds, but I would assume that if you're trying to upgrade from his 1.5 build (different base, kernel, etc) to THIS 1.0 build, you might have a problem.. Try a clean install and see if that makes any difference. Hope this helps

froyo x red not working

downloaded this android http://www.multiupload.com/KOY1IS2G8L
when i run haret i get these error messages
line 8: Expected <varname>
unknown keyword: 'INITRD_OFFSET'
unknown keyword: 'rel_path'
unknown keyword: 'INITRD_OFFSET'
but then android starts up normally?!
i get the sprint and 4g animations
then its asks me to launch using either launcher which or zeam, i used both and they both are different in layout, i normally use launcher,
and my WIFI DOESNT WORK, i go to settings turn wifi on but it just says ERROR.
My MAIN PROBLEM IS WIFI SOlVED
Main problem now is that android keeps freeezing, carry on reading this thread

The startup, you have posted is very complicated and wrong! Try with that I've posted and download the latest kernel and modules from here

Well, use the latest(first in list) htc-msm-linux. After the download completes, copy and rename zImage**** to zImage(replace the old zImage) the modules don't need rename, just delete the old modules. I've already posted that in the gingerbread thread, you can read it, take a look at the video, you will like it, I like it
more than FROYO X (I'm talking about the Gingerbread)

There is something you mess up! Mine runs with Launcher Pro
Gingerbread is much better than froyo in general, but as I say there is a lot of work to do (the developers)!
i installed froyo red x camera but i don have txt input, i keep getting acore has stopped unexpectedly.....cant therefore sync contacts, sms or make calls as error keeps poppin up

I'll tell you how I'm doing it. I've just downloaded the gingerbread image, I used to boot it
with the pack(haret+startup) of froyo x, and I've updated the kernel, and modules ofcourse, and rootfs optionally! And it works for me.
BTW, try to put the device into 'Airplane Mode' and tell us if it freezes.
I'm really tired now, I'm coming back from work, so bye!
This should be kept inside the Froyo X Red Camera test thread
This should be kept inside the Froyo X Red Camera test thread
Read that thread and follow the instructions there.
If you cant solve it with those instructions your are much more likely to get an answer from someone with experience with the build or even the creator of the build. Any complaint of a crash or nonstart should come hand in hand with a log.
Search.
Read.
Write.(If this related to an existing thread then ask there)

Follow this guide to the letter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959831
I have run x red setup exactly as this thread said and have had no problems whatsoever for the last few days.
I would also suggest flashing one of the newer roms like this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616294
Try running this combo for at least an hour before trying to add new apps so we can exclude as many possible sources of failiure
hey there
followed the instructions... managed to run haret on my blackstone however it just can reboot to the froyo... changed the startup.tx file but to no avail.. any help?
Wait a bit will upload the files i am using
Did you unpack all the files at the root of your memorycard (not in a folder)?
If so i will upload an allready set up dump of my system that you can try.
