[Q] [REQ]Battery status from Captivate framework-res.apk - Vibrant General

I'm just wondering if it's possible to somehow either rebuild the framework-res.apk with these images replaced. (I have absolutely no knowledge of apk signing)
Or even easier, if you could just replace the framework-res with the Captivate one.
I like the fact that it changes color based on the battery level, one of my few gripes with the Vibrant.

Someone needs to fix the fact that the battery meter shows 75% when you're at 40% ACTUAL battery.

That's always been a slight issue with Android devices in my experience. Maybe not quite so drastic though.
I just dislike that the battery indicator is blue from full to dead. Doesn't give much of a gauge for when you're getting too low.
The Captivate's is not like this, it shows orange and red at lower levels.
I also think it's unusual that the MMS notification is white on the Captivate and yellow on the Vibrant. Just one of those amusingly odd things I noticed.

Here ya go, just flash with clockwork, should work no problem
EDIT: Needs a little more work

Haha, didn't even see the original upload, but it's probably a good thing, reflashing back down to stock with Odin and getting back to my nandroid has become one of my least favorite passtimes. DX

there are themes that do this... flash the black bar mod from the themes... its the easiest way for you to change it...
if you want i can teach you how to do it yourself and send you everything you need to do it...

I only want to change the battery icon, and specifically to the Captivate version, I like having the blue battery icon when full, but I just want it to change at lower levels.

ditto, exactly how I feel, until we get a CM5/6 or similar build that will display battery % in the status bar.

+1 for this, or at least to have our battery icon read a little bit more accurately...

Just threw together a quick morph of the stock Vibrant battery icons. I actually measured the available space in the icon and figured how much each percentage would be (10, 20, 40, 60, 80). Only issue I can see is I don't know at what percentages the phone changes icons (ie. 20% icon at actual 20% or another close percentage).
I've tested it to make sure the morph applies, but haven't fully tested to see how accurate the icons are (but my calculations were done/correct).
....and yes, I seriously did measure out each percentage.

Dude! You win!
Well, sort of. That still didn't fix the colors. But I may be able to work with this.

I replaced the 10 and 20% images with those from the Captivate stock rom.
My battery hasn't made it that low, so I'm not sure if it worked.
But here's hoping.
Everything else about the morph is the same. I have no intentions of stealing thunder for your work. Nor do I know how to edit anything else within the zip.

Awesome! Thanks, would it be possible to get a revert file?

You'll have to run that by someone with knowledge of how Metamorph works.
Like I said, I simply copy-pasted my way into getting the color changing battery icon. Also, I still haven't burned my battery low enough to know if it actually worked. XD

No problem, guys. If I had time last night, I would've grabbed the Captivate icons and used those. But it was late and the wife wanted to go to bed.
Revert would just need the stock icons pulled from the system dump and pasted in the file. If I have time I'll do that tonight......asking with another MM idea.

I'd love to do this, but I am hesitant to do so without being able to go back to stock if something goes wrong - without re-flashing my entire backup.
Has anyone had the time to come up with the stock replacement yet?

You could just push the framework-res.apk back from a stock ROM image and reboot. That will put you back where you started. Not quite as easy as MetaMorph, but not really hard either.

Meant to work on a revert morph last night, but had other stuff going on. I'll do it tonight.

Revert morph for the battery icons.
*not tested, but just pasted stock icons into my other morph.

Reason for huge battery drain - SOLVED

Hello,
I was having huge battery problems with all kernels and all builds untill ..... i discovered that in Android it takes really long time to cache the pictures in the gallery. I noticed that it always reads every picture file (icons, ebooks cover etc) and i basically removed the icons (i had dinik icon pack) after this, without restart battery got down from around 150-300 mA to 10-11 mA in stand by mode, which is the normal reported from many ppl.
Hope it helps and eliminates one more reason.
After couple days of testing .. it is confirmed. It may not be the main reason, but in my case it was.
I think it might be the reason, but most of the time I get around 30mA so I don't have the problem. But if it is helpful, I'm glad that a Bulgarian found the solution!

I did not want to delete them, so i zipped them with ES explorer .... had a bit more than 3000 files.
???
can you explain how?!!
Where is the location of the icons, by the way.
I am glad a Bulgarian is posting possible solution.

I'm not sure I understand how zipping up icons would save battery life. Except maybe you zipped up the programs themselves? If you did that, then how do you look at your pictures?
Sounds like the gallery was constantly indexing pictures he didn't need indexed. So he put those pictures in a zip, which obviously wouldn't get indexed. Simples. Unless I misunderstood your misunderstanding?

Not slower .... drains the battery more. I have now about 200 pictures shot with the camera and it is ok without the icons (a bit more than 3000 files).
last couple of hours, everytime i wake up the phone, got 9-11 mA, before cleaning the icons i never got below 70-80 mA.
I kindly ask someone else to try it
typo lolololol
If your asking others to test and verify your theory why is the thread labeled SOLVED?
There are so many reasons for battery drain. One minute you can have a high battery drain and the next a low one. Just like everyone that runs these speed tests. They are so inaccurate its not even funny. There are way too many factors that affect both issues that I do not ever think they will be solved. There are steps you can take to make them better but never solve them.
I am 200% agree with you!!
This is not solve, it is discuses!!!
I draw 3-6ma in standby without doing anything other than booting Android.
Discuss.
i last 2 days on my build (v1.5) with normal use....
for the upcoming 1.6 i have o check the drain still but it lasts me a full day with juice to spare.
man I came running to this thread thinking this was a genuine fix. no worries. I am at a consistent 50-60 mA at rest. The only time it goes down to below 5 is when it is charging. I have used hastrain 7.7 and now 8.1. Nothing is getting me down to below 10 yet with this build.

Yo, too many reasons for battery drain... kernel, build, application run in background, display, and more and more.. For me, when a build drain my battery too fast, i try to canging kernel, for example, with mdeejay froyo rev in stand by with mdeejay kernel i got 60-100mha...with hastarin 7.8, 4-8 mha.

[Q] Can someone please ID this icon?

Can someone please ID the battery icon in the top left of the notification bar. I Am wondering if it is the replacing the battery pop-up. I am using the EE 2.0.01 Froyo ROm. I have seen it before but always though it was from another utility I had installed. It's driving me nuts cause I can't remember why this is there. It only shows up whe the battery is fully charged. So I think it is the new battery pop-up but not sure.
Anyone?
It's letting you know that your battery is fully charged. Unplug it and it goes away. Plug it back in and it shows up when you are fully charged again.
Nothing too strange about that one.

Is it possible to get the battery steps in 1% steps instead of 10%?
Would be nice.
Search is your friend. But since I hate people who just say that, I will add:
Circle battery widget does.
I also think someone is working on a mod to change the default display, not sure if they have finished/were successful.
I think DG said it was a hardware issue not software so booooo.

I am working on an app that uses same method as circle battery widget. It will place the battery % in the notification bar similar to battery minder esk apps. It will NOT replace the stock one. Tho it is possible sooner or later.
I hope to have a beta out later today.
Sounds great!
A small icon in the status bar is much better than a big widget on the homescreen!

I just installed it and it's working great, but as a future update do you think you can remove the small icon above the battery % number and enlarge the actual number so it is easier to read? Basically, make the % number fill up the status bar vertically. Let me know!

I gave it some time. And rebooted. Seems to be doing much better now. Ill give it a day and report back.
*EDIT I ran my battery down to 2% and has a shutdown time 30 minutes earlier that the actual time. it was back to reporting -.29 hours. up to that point is was fairly accurate. it did adjust itself well the more i used it. Which is to be expected.
That is one reason am not too fond with "predictive life" it changes with stress. i can run it hard for an hour and show 2 hours left. then let it set for an hour and it shows 4 hours. so i pick it up and use it hard and it dies in an hour.

[Q] Anyone able to develop a ROM for say, camping?

Just thinking a no frills, reduced power state, low res icons, low output, rom, that will allow the battery to possibly last 3-5 days on standby?
I would say turn it off, but what if people needed to meet up and need path info, etc...
Just curious on thoughts and if it was possible.
You could use one of faux's orange roms which are stripped down quite a bit, flash his lv kernel, turn data off and keep your phone on airplane mode and just turn airplane mode off when you need to check for someone needing directions, etc. Would recommend bringing a car charger or solar (though don't know how good those are) just in case. Doubt you will see 5 days but if use its limited, think you could get close to 3. Will take some trial and error but keep us posted, am interested in this as well.
Edit: Forgot to mention cm7 is great on battery life as well and under clocking whichever rom you choose may help also.
Will definitely do that on trip coming up. I was thinking for dev, maybe just a dialpad and text function, remove all else, wonder how that would work.
orange glacier, lv kernel, set cpu conserv 245/4xx, 2g, gps off, bt off, brightness 10 with black background, remove all apps you don't use then backup. when you go camping restore the backup, when you get home restore your normal. should get at least 60 hrs if it's just a comm tool every once in a while. I get a consistent 30 hrs without limiting anything at all, so I'm sure more than 60 is possible.
I actually just put in Orange Glacier too, I like it but not really sure what the difference is as of yet, Im sure its there, just not terribly noticeable.

Of course, I suppose I just assumed he was on stock already. Wasn't really a plug so much as offering something similar to the "standard" user experience. No learning curve just for that 5 day camping trip, just restore/use/restore with something familiar... Use that idea with the ROM you're comfortable with and you'll have what you need.
OG does use ext4 and increased VM heap (i know it's just a number in build.prop), so some performance increases. I've always understood that efficiency=lower power consumption for same task.
Thanks for the replies, and for clearing up some questions I had. I was using RoyalGinger 1.4 for the past week, and CM7 RC1 before that. I had recently went back to stock sense, and just flashed Orange, so I had just come off stock. So I was fresh on it. I am liking it so far. While you are here though! What is the difference between Orange Sense, and Orange Glacier? I couldn't really tell from the descriptions.
Sense uses HTC's Sense overlay of froyo, Glacier uses T-Mobile/HTC's MySense overlay, which is what comes stock with the phone.
... Really!!! lol
Just go to radio shak and get a solar USB charger for $25-$55 depending on its internal battery size. They clip on to backpacks and are water resistant ballistic plastic!!! Happy hunting.

[Q] Battery percentage display

Hey guys.
I've done my best to do lots of homework as I've slowly hacked my way into Continuum territory. I've spent a couple hours researching this and tried a couple zips and had to restore my phone.
Basically, I'm trying to get a percentage battery display instead of the battery icon in the top right notification bar, so I can see the battery level. I've looked at UOTKitchen, I even tried a Fascinate zip that did the same thing, but no dice.
Is there an easy way of doing this? I've been googling for a long time and can't find anything on this for the continuum specifically.
Thanks!
Let me add, I've rooted and flashed the Adrynaline DL17 clean ROM.
I got it working, I'll upload it later xP

Don't mean to pester Trailblazer. Just wanted to make sure you were replying to this thread and not on another so I know where to search. Thanks.
Lmao, the percentage battery mod has been uploaded in the theme section for like a week xP lol go check it out
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA Premium App
Found it and applied the zip. Couple questions:
1) Looks like the GB theme contains the accurate battery mod. Is it possible to keep Adrynaline's clean DL17 ROM look and then apply the no clock and battery mods (and have the battery icon remain the standard blue)?
2) I've also seen a battery mod for Fascinate that has a circle with a meter on it, and the circle changes colors as the battery drains. Is this possible for the Continuum? If you google "samsung fascinate accurate battery life" several links come up with examples.
Thanks for your thoughts. Let me know how I can return the favor.

Yeah, I can create an accurate battery touchwiz theme... No Problem
I could do that too, i just personally think that's ugly If a lot of people want it (and will actually keep it! ) Then i will do it
and just stick with this phone, that's all i can ask
EDIT: Go check out my thread in the theme section Just for you
Applied the zip. At first it was working, but after charging last night, it's stuck on 100%?
hmm... That's kinda weird... If it worked before, it should continue to work!
I'll take a look though!
Couple things I noticed that may help. It seems to freeze at one number. So for a while it was at 100. Then 80, later at 35. I think they changed during reboots of the phone, but not during every reboot.
I applied the Touchwiz zip over the top of the GB theme. Should that work? Would I need to reflash the whole ROM and then apply?
THanks trailblazer!
EDIT: Watched it a bit closer today. It went from 100 to 80, then 65, when I woke up this morning it was 35...looking at the actual battery level though, those are only rough estimates. It seems like it is probably using the default Touchwiz battery levels, rather than the full accurate percentage.
Just to be sure, I flashed the clean ROM again. Still same issues.
